This place is very close to the coffee places in Rome italy. I find memories of shotgunning my espresso and inhaling my corneto in Italy last year. There`s plenty of sweets. I got the chocolate lobster tail and a cappacino from here. The lobster tail is insane. The filling inside is not too sweet and compliments the very crunchy dough. I've always drove past this place thinking it was a mafia place. I've only been here Sunday mornings and Italian soccer is on the TV. I think they make savory items like the paninis but I'm only interested in the lobster tail. The coffee is great and mean here. It will make you grow hair in your chest but it's not illy brand. First timer, daughter highly recommended it so much she took me here. Once inside I was in pastry heaven. Unique cakes, cookies, rolls, breads, eclairs, puffs, pistachio cream, Nutella cream, if you thought you seen it all this counter runs the length of the place. Server was very pleasant and helpful. She gave some favorite suggestions and glad we listened. I had to share with family so I bought a box of seven. I knew one wasn't going to make it home..shhh. They were so dreamy delicious!! I have been driving pass this place for years and always wanted to stop by and try them, but they were always either too packed, or they were closed and finally Friday I realized they are open late and decided to stop and I made a great decision. Since I went in late, after 8pm they did not have a very large variety of goodies, but what they had made me a lifelong customer. I had their last lobster tail and it has been one of the best lobster tails I have ever had. I also had a croissant filled with custard that was amazing. They had a mini pistachio pastry that made me come back the next day to get a few for a get together because its just something you have to share with others. Lastly, I had a passion fruit mouse cake (I think) that was delicious. It was composed of a think layer of cake then mouse for about 8 think layers, then toped with a passion fruit gel. Taste so delicious and the passion fruit taste felt so fresh. OMG GOOD! This place is the real deal for fresh Italian pastes. They also sell Italian goodies to take home and cook. I always judge italian bakeries based on how well their pignolis are, theirs is unfortunately too cakey and had less almond paste as I'd like. The other stuff (croissant, sfogliatella, almond cookie, other pastries with stuffing) didn't impress me either - tasted all the same, with little variation in consistency. I am fortunate to have great Italian bakeries near me but Palazzone 1960 has a variety of baked goods that I have not had in other places. They have a lemon curd cake that is AWEOME! This place reminds me of a mini, local version of Eataly. They sell cakes and cookies in their pastry case. They also sell dry Italian grocery like tomato sauce, jarred truffles and dry pasta and have a small area for sit-in lunch. The highlight of this place is their pastries. The store can be a bit hard to find, given it is somewhere in off of Route 23 and 46. I came here for lunch and had: Ricotta ravioli - $14 served with creamy truffle sauce. You can see the bits of black truffle in the cream sauce. I thought it tasted a little bland but the pasta has a nice bite to it. Pasta with broccoli rabe & sausage - $14. This is one of their specials of the day. Very delicious. Made with homemade pasta. Lemon cake - Lemony and not too sweet. Nice. Amalfi - $3.95. This is one of the coffees from their specialty coffees menu. Ice blended coffee, similar to a frappucino. I thought it was too sweet. Will stick to a cappuccino next time. Lobster tail - very good. The crust stayed crispy for the entire day. The creamy filling was light and not too sweet. Cannoli - Love it. Crispy shell Tiramisu - nice mascarpone cream, but the lobster tail and cannoli was better. read more

As much as I love this place, it can be a little difficult to get here because the location sucks. It isn't the easiest to get to and get out of especially if there's a lot of traffic (it's in the corner where Rt. 46, 23 and 80 merge/split). Honestly, I probably would have never came here because I never noticed it but my Italian friends brought me here a while back and I fell in love! I keep coming back despite it's location because the pastries here are phenomenal! They have so many baked goods here I'm always overwhelmed when I come in but I always try to get something different. The desserts are very authentic and fresh. Prices are reasonable - $1.50 for the smaller pastries and $2.50 for the bigger ones (FYI get the bigger cannoli because it has 3x more the cream!). I can't speak for the entrees since I've never ordered it yet but the coffees here are delicious!! There are so many coffee options you can get too which is always a plus (some are very fancy that you can't get anywhere else in the area.. at least not that I know of). Staff is great - they are very helpful, patient and polite. You know this is an authentic Italian cafe when the employees speak in Italian. This is by far the best Italian bakery in the area! I highly recommend the cannolis, tiramisu, lobster tail, cannoncini, chocolate mousse cream puffs.. ok I'll stop right there.. EVERYTHING I've tried here was good. you can't go wrong with anything. The ambiance here is a little different from the usual bakery but still very relaxing. The lights are fluorescent white and all the furniture is white. I actually kind of like it, it's nice to have something different once in a while (Also, you can take great food photos in this lighting haha). The entire place is very clean too. I can't wait to come back and try more - if their pastries are this good, their entrees must be just as authentic and fresh. This is a great spot of you want to pick up a cake for a special occasion, surprise the family with small treats or just to catch up with a friend. Highly recommend! This place is a solid five stars! I've driven by this place over a hundred times but never really thought about stopping. My cousin brought me here, and I'm so glad she did. My benchmark for coffee is the Americano. When I asked the girl behind the counter about how many shots their's had, she told me one but they can add another--though it will be strong, she warned. I kind of scoffed because so many places put 2-3 shots of espresso in their Americanos and it's no problem. I guess they use they serve the real stuff, because my two-shot beverage had me alert and buzzing the rest of the day. The coffee was delicious and one of the best I've had in a very long time. My cousin ordered a latte macchiato that was also pretty good. The chocolate croissant was tasty, but nowhere near as good as the coffee. They also had a nice selection of cakes and desserts I would like to try (we noticed one cake with real figs on top of it). Another really awesome bonus is the authenticity of this place--the details that mattered. For example, the girls working were Italian complete with language and accents. Furthermore, their cups, saucers, and even stirring spoons were all from Italy. I thought that was really cool and only added to the charm. Getting here can be a bit of a challenge. The easiest thing to do from Route 46 or I-80 is to take Route 23 South, passing Palazzone, then make a legal U-turn to go on 23N turning right into its parking lot. Of course you can also use your GPS :) I will certainly be back! read more

Their location is in an odd area because it's almost like their in their own island off a highway. Good size parking lot. They offer various pasta dishes and their counter once you walk in is a full display of many italian pastries. My hands down fave of theirs was their lobster roll. They put a touch of chocolate on their lobster roll and I enjoyed how crunchy it was and the cream was delicious. Their creme puffs tasted like a bavarian which I didnt like too much...if they put the creme they had from their lobster roll then it would be excellent. Their gelatos were good but not as cold. It was very soft as if the temperature wasnt set right. They did have a good amount of varieties to choose from. I also had their mini tiriamsu which was good and paired it with a cappuccino. Coffee was pretty good too. One thing I must say is they had me try this new concoction they created. I think it was a creme de mint cold drink which was so refreshing. I will come back hoping they have this on their menu. They also offered dry pasta, fresh mozzarella, nutella, and homemade cookies. They closed late on a Saturday which was 10pm. They had a small area to eat at and walls are white and lighting was bright. Nice photographed pics on the wall too which was eye catching due to the white walls everywhere. If I need a fix for a lobster roll and dont want to go to the city I would definitely come back. read more

White everything, but that makes the presentation of their desserts look so much better. Service: Great service. Our waiter was really nice and brought out the desserts quick. Knew our order without writing it down and brought mostly everything at the same time. Pastries: The pastries were definitely worth the travel. Took us about half an hour to get to the place, but definitely worth it. Called in advanced to make sure they had more lobster tails before heading over. Tried some of the cookies, which were eh. I went to visit a dear friend today and had to stop at Palazzone 1960. The name comes from the fact that the owner's parents started their own bakery shop in 1960. The Clifton shop was successful but the family moved back to Italy to raise their kids. After hearing about America and the business their son decided to try his own American Dream. You can see the modern setup that you see in shops all through Italy at Palazzone. They are currently offering 3 types of San Giuseppe pastry. Ricotta (cannoli), Custard, and Chantilly. All three were fresh and flavorful. What I enjoyed was they were all unique in flavor. The custard had a pleasant lemon flavor, the Chantilly was light and sweet, and the Cannoli still had the ricotta flavor that wasn't overpowered with sugar. The lobster tail was delicious, crispy, and fresh. And lastly, the Baba was one of the best I've ever had, the reason being it was not dripping with the artificial rum but just moist enough to taste all the flavors. Everything was outstanding. As in other more modern shops, there isn't 40 different pastry to choose from but what they make they do well. On a side note, you can also enjoy breakfast and lunch at one of their tables. Prices for the pastry range from $3-4 for large and $1.85 for small. They didn't upcharge for the St Joe's pastry either those were $3 each. Worth the trip. read more

Pasta dishes had no real flavor and sauce was watery, rice balls were served ice cold and no flavor and no sauce. Cooked well but it needs flavor, to be warm, and needs sauce!! Excellent. NJ is know for its italian bakeries and this is one of the best I've had. First off: the lobster tail. This is the star and the simplest yet the most exquisite thing I may have ever eaten. The cream is plentiful and the pastry is flaky and perfect. Not too sweet not too this or that. Amazing. My dad ate the donuts and loved the nutella filled one and my mom loves napoleans and said it was probably the best she's had in years. They both moved out of NJ so they miss italian treats like these. The price is moderate to high but its not something you eat everyday and it is one of the best if not the best bakery in the area. Totally worth the trip and the cost. Also great service, cute box for the pastries and a very clean almost pristine appearance. They put a lot of love and thought into what they do here. read more

What a better way to brighten a gloomy Friday than to stop at Palazzone for breakfast. This is not our first time here and every time is a delightful event. As you make your way to the building you can't help but feel like you are walking to a place that could be anywhere in Europe and very, very far from Wayne, NJ and when you walk in... BAAAMMM the smells of fresh croissants, almond cookies, cakes and coffee slap you right in the face. We had: - Double Espresso - Cappuccinos - Croissants - Ciambella The Ciambella tasted as if was freshly made... soft and dense, a perfect partner to the cappuccino - which was the perfect ratio of espresso, milk and froth. In Italy is called the triumvirate. Perfection! The double espresso was thick and creamy and the perfect size. Many places tend to water down the coffee. The Croissants were a little dry and the sizes were all different. We opted for the plain croissants for our review, but they had some with crema (custard) apricot jam and Nutella. They should try to be more consistent with their sizes since they charge you the same regardless if you get a giant or a mini one. haha Overall, not a bad way to start the day and we will definitely come back, next time for lunch! From Italy and looking for authentic desserts, lunch, and coffee? This place is for you. This is about as authentic as it gets in the states- everyone behind the counter speaks Italian and it reminds me of my days in Italy. They also have a large variety of Italian specialties (olive oil, balsamic, chocolate Easter eggs, etc) that they sell as well. Why only 3 stars? Be it shipping costs, or the fact that they know people are willing to pay for the authenticity, the place can get pricey. $40-$50 for a chocolate Easter egg? I'll pass. There have also been times where I've gotten pastries only to take them to someone's house and discover that the insides were frozen. Also, I know this isn't their fault, but the place is extremely annoying to get to. All in all, if I'm passing it and need something, I'll stop, but I don't think it's worth seeking it out and making all of the u-turns. read more
