The Vortex Midtown was such a fun experience from start to finish. From the moment you walk in, the…read morevibe is loud, quirky, and unapologetically over-the-top--in the best way. Service is always top tier though! We ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger and the Zombie Burger, and both delivered exactly what you'd want from a place like this. The Mushroom Swiss was rich, juicy, and loaded with flavor, with perfectly melted cheese and mushrooms that actually added depth instead of getting lost. The Zombie Burger was messy, bold, and indulgent--definitely not a "play it safe" kind of burger, but that's what made it great. This isn't a quiet, refined dining spot--and it's not trying to be. It's fun, casual, and perfect for when you want a great burger with personality. If you're looking for solid food, big flavors, and a place that doesn't take itself too seriously, The Vortex absolutely hits the mark.

I had the Holy Guacamole Burger with the guac on the side: Now that burger was incredible. The fries were perfect and so was the burger. I'm glad I've only had great burgers at Vortex. If you know anything about Vortex you know it can appear pretty sacrilegious and I can see it turning some people away, but if you can stomach it I the food won't disappoint. Children under 18 aren't allowed after a certain time and they always have a mystery shot for the low. Pro tip: Good luck

Great wings, I recommend the sun dried tomato bbq wings and of course cannot go wrong with Buffalo lemon pepper. Also got the tots which I enjoyed, they were light with a nice crunch, not too greasy.

We arrived there exactly at 5 PM, when it opens, but there was already a pretty extensive line. A little outside the entrance, they check your ID, which I had no idea was a thing. So make sure you have your IDs with you and are 21+. There's a bar area for drinks and a separate counter where you will order and pay for your food. (They make it pretty explicit that you can't get wings to-go.) Find a seat, and once your food is ready, they'll announce your name, and you pick up your food from the window. FOOD: We got wings in the flavors of lemon pepper (dry rub), sun-dried tomato (dry rub), buffalo lemon pepper (wet), and jerk buffalo (wet). I will say that I definitely preferred the wet wings to the dry wings. I found the dry wings to be a little too salty. In my opinion, the wings and the cook on them were just okay. I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe the relatively cheap beer and the vibes help draw in all the appeal. TLDR// I don't think I had the greatest wings of all time here, but the vibes were really casual and pleasant. I'm glad I was able to try a place so beloved by locals.

This cocktail lounge is a cool spot! We had a private party for 20 and reserved the "Tight Squeeze"…read moresection which was behind a very nondescript door (like a speakeasy??) and right next to the bar, with a big center table where most of stood around, and then comfy sofas and chairs on the periphery. Since the other side of the bar was pretty much almost outside with a deck, they had heated lamps throughout. To order food or drinks, we went to the bartender - there is no server walking around to take orders. All of us kept an open tab - and they do automatically charge 20% tip. Our bartender was really good and super nice! And they have Happy Hours specials 4:30-7pm - even Sat/Sun ... so I took advantage of that! MELON BALL - $9 I'd never had a melon ball before and it was really yummy :) DOS CONFIT DUCK TACOS - $10 Two corn tortilla tacos w/ duck confit (birria style), NY sharp cheddar (actually I don't remember having cheese in mine), and mango chutney ... good option if you're looking for a lite bite. I enjoyed mine! LEMON PEPPER FRITES - $6 House-cut fries w/ lemon pepper dusting. The tacos weren't enough, lol - plus the fries were a good portion for sharing. I wish they sprinkled more lemon pepper but it was fine. Next time I'd like to try their Big Mac sliders - those looked really good! The shrimp po' boys looked good too! Looking at the regular menu, the food prices are very reasonable. Overall great spot for groups! They are located at Colony Square - although I knew the restaurant location, I did get disoriented after coming from the parking garage and trying to figure out where was 14th Street but a lovely policeman walked me there. Remember to bring your parking ticket and then ask the hostess to validate your ticket when you leave the restaurant - supposedly it's free up to 2 hours but I stayed there for over 6 hours and didn't have to pay for parking, yay!

As the night went on, we ordered more drinks and our server also ordered more drinks for himself (which we could see him drinking). He was incredibly rude and at times would just disappear. Mind you we were one of the only groups in the restaurant... all other tables had 'reserved' signs on them. For who? I'm not sure. He was obviously very annoyed to have to serve us and made rude comments to a few people in our group. For the food - the served actually told us 'you didn't order that' when we reminded him or 2 items that were forgot. They came out about 15 mins later. The 2 pizzas in my photos were the same pizza... not sure what happened there.
