Page Dairy Mart is about as Pittsburgh as you can get. Located off the established portion of East Carson, this shack is gritty and located underneath some train tracks. It's not a pretty location, but if you love the Pittsburgh's industrial charm, you'll be right at home here. With the typical American snack bar choices, the mart's signature for their sundaes. The Nancy B's Chocolate Chip Cookie sundae is godsent. Warm cookie from a great local bakery, hot fudge, nuts, whip cream, and the best homemade ice cream (arguably) in the area. It may have been my favorite sundae ever. The ice cream here also has a historical significance, as the Page family has been producing dairy products since the 1800s. The mart never left it's original location. On the backside of the premise, you can read up on the history of Pittsburgh dairy and ice cream. This place really is perfect, I love everything about it. Have been wanting to trying this place for a while! Came on a Thursday night and there was a pretty long line, but it moves quickly. Luckily we found a parking spot. I got the Nancy B Chocolate Fudge Sundae! Wow, was it huge! The chocolate chip cookie was nice and warm and they did not skimp on the fudge. I truly enjoyed every bite! They have so many options to choose from, so I know I will definitely be back. My friend got an arctic swirl and enjoyed it as well. Their portions are huge, so come hungry! Pittsburgh's hidden gem! I lived here for 3 year before I even heard about this place. On the far far end of South Side (toward Homestead) sits Page Dairy Mart. One might be skeptical about stopping in after seeing its location on the side of a road, under a bridge, across from a train track but trust me - it is SO worth it. Honestly, the long line that weaves through the parking lot should be a dead giveaway about how good it is. Don't let the line steer you away either! It tends to move very quickly and the ice cream is worth the wait. The ONLY downside to Page's is there isn't really a seating area so you tend to either have to stand around to enjoy your treat or eat it in your car. But again, worth it. The menu is overwhelming large (a good problem to have) with your choices of milkshakes, arctic swirls, ice cream sandwiches, so many types of cones...the list goes on. (They also have food like fries, hot dogs, etc. but back to the ice cream). You can get something so decadent and sweet like an Yinzer sundae or something so simple and classic like a soft serve cone. It's some of the best soft serve in the 'burgh. I do have a roommate that is dairy sensitive and they don't have many options for that (I think just slushies/snow cones) but, for any one else, the world is your oyster at Page's. You can choose any item off the menu or come up with your own creation. I come from a small town where little, locally run ice cream shops thrive and this place just feels like home. Holy moly Page's is awesome. Like the absolute best soft serve ever. EVER. They have a ridiculous amount of flavors and toppings and different sundaes. They might have the biggest selection of soft serve options I've seen. I've been to the trendy soft serve places in a few major cities and they don't have NOTHIN' on Pages. I've been consistently getting the butterscotch sundae ever since I tried it on my third visit, but have tried a few other options as well. I also now get the crunchies as a topping. At first the crunchies seemed to be all of the leftover toppings swept into a cup and poured onto my ice cream, but now I understand that that mixture is a perfect mix of crunch, salt, and sweet for any type of ice cream concoction you could order. The location is weird and under a bridge on the outskirts of south side, but DO NOT LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU. This place is all about the vibe, and I think most people get that. There are a lot of factors about Page Dairy Mart that, taken on their own, could raise some eyebrows. But I love the fact that it's right under an abandoned bridge. I love the menu that's too big to be contained by a chalkboard, so it's sprawled across the walls and off onto the side of the shack. I love peering into the dilapidated storefront across the street that once sold designer fashion articles, but I guess we'll never know for sure. I love that fact that you have to inhale your soft-serve on the side of a busy thoroughfare before it melts. And if it does melt, it joins the donations of previous costumers on the asphalt around the mart. I don't love the fact that it's difficult to find legitimate parking, but hey, it did spark thoughtful conversations about "What is legitimate parking, anyways?" and "Is this safe?" and "Are we sure this is the right place?" This place tho.... If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. This place is located underneath a over pass and what it feels like the older area of Pittsburgh. We were actually at Keystone Raceway park for a car show and after that we decided to visit Pittsburgh for the rest of the afternoon. For lunch we went to a Chinese buffet that was just ok. We were looking for a ice cream place and this place came up on my Yelp app and having high ratings. From our location we were at, to Page Dairy Mart, it was about a 20 min drive. I was ok with the drive because we wanted to see and taste the best of what they have to offer. After getting there, there is a few stalls in the front of the place and a small lot in the back. I opt to park in the front because i took the track car to the car show. When we first got there, there was maybe about 3-4 people in front of us, but when we got in line and a few minutes later, the line was wrapping around the building. We got there just in time! Now for my order, I got the brownie hot fudge sundae and Dan got the warm chocolate cookie sundae. I must say BOTH looked and tasted amazing but the Brownie one was a tad bit better. Both are advertised as made from scratch from a local popular bakery and yes it is. I can tell from a scratch brownie / cookie to a box cookie. The soft serve ice cream was also one of the best I have tasted. The price also was amazing for the amount and quality you get. Their menu was extensive but I just went with whats popular and it always seems to work. Also what made me happy was they had Shave Ice. Its a Hawaii thing. I was thinking of getting it but I think i'll just save something like that when I go back home to visit. Tips are encouraged for the workers too, so keep that in mind when you get some ice cream. The prices are cheap too. I decided to try a Heath bar swirl which is actually like a blizzard and not a swirl. I got a small but would have preferred half the amount I got. I also would have preferred half the amount of Heath bar. Next time I will ask for half the amount they normally put in. On our recent trip to Pittsburgh, we were finally able to stop at this gem. We tend to only come during the winter when it is closed, so it was very exciting to be there when this ice cream stand was open. After stopping here on several occasions, I've yet to figure out the hype. It must be rooted in the tradition and memories this place invokes for a lot of Pittsburghers. All local soft serve establishments run together for me, and this one is no exception. I visited this place last night on a bike ride, which allowed me to feel less guilty about my small chocolate-dipped cone.
