Loved this spot! I ended up coming during my trip to NYC. The location is super convenient in Midtown, just steps from Rockefeller Center, and I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a table for three without much wait. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for Midtown Manhattan. I got the beef rendang. The food was flavorful, satisfying, and served quickly. I had the Ayam Gulai (chicken curry) and beef rendang. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. This was a very tasty dish. I recommend it. As for the beef rendang, it was salty and the meat was tough. That was just ok. Padi is inside Urban Hawker food hall. The food hall itself is being repurposed. Most of the vendors have cleared out. There are a few remaining, possibly until end of the year. If you wanted to try this place within Urban Hawker, you should go try it soon. read more

Padi D'NYC is one of my favorite stalls at Urban Hawker. Having ordered the ayam gulai twice, I just adore the rich curry sauce with generous chunks of tender chicken. The mee rebus is also delicious. The amount of yellow noodles is also generous. The thick slightly sweet but spicy gravy is divine. And the lontong with sambal is amazing. I'm a sucker for these rich, coconut-based, sweet and spicy curry soups and sauces. So Padi D'NYC is totally my jam. But the execution of the flavors, noodles, rice cakes, chicken, etc. is just spot-on. Paired with the fragrant coconut infused purple rice side, the lontong was my favorite though. I would definitely order from Padi D'NYC again to try their fish belado and bakso. read more

My husband is from Malaysia . We just found this place near MOMA. What a treat . We ordered their chicken rice platter . The platter came with rice , Curry Chicken and salad and whole egg and sam al . They pour the curry over rice and egg . The food was delicious and chicken was soft and tender .The entree was very flavorful. Will be back soon . read more

So I haven't actually been to Singapore, but I've heard their food courts are amazing. This place feels a lot more special than some random mall food court with Panda Express. I love the fast casual informal nature here, since sometimes you don't want the formalities of table service. Beef Rendang Set: A very hearty meal set! Big chunks of stringy beef penetrated with so many spiced flavors. A decent amount of thick sauce to cover the beef and the rice. One boiled eggs that seems to be covered in a kinda spicy sauce. I got the beef rendang set. If you get it to stay, they provide the food on a plate with metal utensils which is a nice touch. It's similar to how it is at hawker centers in Singapore too. For $20, the set came with beef, fried egg, rice and salad. The salad was fresh and crispy. The fried egg was nice as it was somehow fried whole? It also came with slightly spicy sauce on top. The flavor of the beef was on point and a touch spicy. Actually the spice started the build for me the more I ate it. They also pour the sauce all over the rice which made it much tastier. I wish the beef was slightly more tender like pulled pork as it took a bit of elbow grease to shred the beef pieces with a metal fork and spoon. read more

Food wise it is decent. Given the price, I expected a portion to fill me but it didn't really. With the rice you get a larger portion of food. Service is mostly self service just go grab and get a seat. Can't say much about ambiance. Seems like a nice place to grab dinner. read more

Urban Hawker always delivers on the variety of Asian food options. The food options aren't your traditional American Chinese food but are authentic to countries like Singapore and I'm very glad for that. Location is decent since it's in midtown. For the food, we decided to get the beef rendang. It came with big chunks of beef, rice, salad, and a delicious fragrant sauce. Overall, I felt like it was a good amount of food to feel good despite the price tag. I like how the menu isn't too large so I'll definitely be back to try more. Focused menu of Malay Food in Urban Hawker food hall. The beef rendang set ($20) is flavorful but the beef texture isn't as tender as I've had elsewhere. Portions are generous, with five big hunks, dunked in the right amount of sauce, a big heaping mound of rice, an overly hard-boiled egg with a lively pickle salsa, and a generic side salad with some shaved toasted coconut atop. The best mee rebus I ever had in my entire life. It wasn't too spicy, with just the right amount of flavor. The rice served on the side was fluffy and well cooked. The consistency was perfect. Service (3/5): The person was helpful and got the food out. They unfortunately don't have any water cups but the restaurant nearby was able to provide. Ah, nothing like diving straight into my mother's comfort food. Her Malaysian roots meant I spent a good amount of time north of Singapore and THANKFUL for it. Memories of being 8 eating close to 200 satay skewers that freaked out the vendors and my relatives at the same time still brings a deep smile. Yeah, I was *that* kid. The night before I began my drive to MA, I was reminiscing with my mother about our comfort foods of that era - naming things that are now gone as well as the staples that we picked up in LA - thanks to the diversity and availability there. Lontong, Rendang, and Satay definitely were things on the table that night so it should be no surprise that on the same night here in Urban Hawker, it was all on the table again with multiple text messages to the dear mother telling her just how much I loved and missed her. Her first reaction? $20 for 6 satay??!!!??? (@#*%@*#%#@ - lol) Welcome to NYC mom. ;) Rendang was on the dry side but the flavors were there. Lontong was spot on and it disappeared fast. Ate it as fast as I remembered mom doing it. As for the satay, it's where they lost a star. As tender as it was, as aromatic as it was, it FAILED to shine due to being severely under salted. It was sadly bland. I hope they correct this soon as they have potential. Padi D'NYC is a gateway to what the cuisine has to offer. I won't even say they are remotely close to par with what is normal in Singapore (much less Malaysia). It is a good introduction to the flavors of the cuisine but please don't ever think that this is "it" when it comes to Malay flavors. Expensive option in the so called hawker center, but basically in line with the other options. Got the chicken curry dish. Portion was on the small side (in fact I had a snack as soon as I got back to my desk). Wasn't the biggest fan of the dish. In fact the meat didnt taste the freshest. I wouldn't be surprised if it was cooked the prior day and microwaved. It wasn't the most flavorful either, which was disappointing for SE asian food. read more

Each chunk of meat is infused with the essence of spices. Just can't get enough! Mee rebus. Springy noodles drenched in a savory, sweet, and slightly spicy gravy, topped with fried shallots, diced tofu, and boiled eggs! The whole dish is an extremely comforting and hearty meal. Ayam gulai set. The chicken is incredibly tender and coated with an aromatic spice blend. It's tantalizing to your taste buds. Lontong curry. This place is located in a food court called Urban Hawker. I got the fish belando set, which was ready in about 10-15 minutes. It came with salad, rice, and a tofu triangle (I think this replaced the egg that they advertised). The fish was pretty tender and flaky, and had a nice crispy exterior. The sauce was too spicy for me. The salad was meh. The tofu triangle was cold. For the price of $20, I'm not sure if this dish was worth it. read more

I stopped by for a snack and grabbed their Chicken Satay Skewers. It was enticing because I can see them making it behind the counter over a charcoal grill. It really made a difference in the taste and the chicken was very tender. You can tell they use lots of aromatics for seasoning as bits of lemongrass on it - yummy! RIP Urban Hawker…read more Though if you wanted to recreate that part in movie plots where the protagonist we all thought had veered into untimely demise surprises everyone by miraculously making a comeback--I'm down for that too! Though on a serious note--kinda bummed bc I wanted to make one last visit before they closed July 17, though unfortunately I didn't make it back to town in time :( What a loss of a cultural connection point for the city! Food is a gateway to experiencing and understanding other cultures and this location was front and center in midtown, blocks from Times Square. In a sea of other cuisines, this part of Southeast Asia didn't/doesn't have much representation in general in Manhattan, and even less so now. Scouring articles and comments online I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're able to find a different space in the near future! Was it the best food court? I'll admit this was easily debatable for many reasons. But each stall had their own standouts. Tradsiyon was a later addition though had really solid braised meat and veggie bowls; Hainan Jones stepped into a midtown scene several years ago with no other similar Hainanese chicken spots in midtown (a few others thankfully are around today); Kopifellas brought uniquely Singaporean/Malasian tea and coffee options; I still remember the first bite of Prawnaholic's signature shrimp and rib noodles tasting that savory goodness for the first time; and most of all I will dearly miss this location of Lady Wong, where I rarely walked away empty handed. Thank you for the memories (and think about that movie plot twist I mentioned above)!

I rarely went home invoking a strong enthusiastic response to come back to eat something again. Their strong suite was location, space, and variety. What I loved most--besides having a reliable bathroom in Midtown--was what it became for the people around it. It was a place where office workers could decompress after work, grab a beer with coworkers, or catch up with friends they hadn't seen in a while. There was something refreshing about the atmosphere. People seemed relaxed and unguarded, shedding the polished professional persona they'd worn all day. It felt like watching the city exhale for a little while. And another thing I appreciated was their attempt to represent different nationalities under one roof. The more common items performed the worse and that's probably when you come to a space dedicated to hawker style cuisine, you expect to try some of their more novel stuff like Coffee Pork Fried Rice (from a stall that specialized in fried rice) or Noodles in Bechamel. I also frequently enjoyed their only drinks provider for the best Yuen Yang I've ever had. The method for making them seems theatrical at first but when you've had one that wasn't properly aerated, you truly taste the chalky bitter tannins. It was a good thing there was an experience worker there (possibly the owner). Who you got to make your drink was hit or miss because at varying times, my gf would be lucky enough to run into the one guy who could do it with oatmilk (she's lactose intolerant). It's sad to see this place go and there'll be many times ahead of us where we point out that that's where the Urban Hawker used to be.

The peel had a bitterness which wasn't pleasant. The calamansi drink didn't have any jasmine flavor and needed more calamansi, but still refreshing. I ordered a mango sticky rice to go.
