2 combo (roast pork and duck)
    Angela P.

Are you by Midtown East, want Chinese food (and not the "Americanized" Chinese food) but don't want to go to Chinatown. Well you are in luck! There is this little gem in midtown east that does the trick. When I saw that crispy roast pork belly, duck and roast pork, I felt like I was transported to a restaurant in Chinatown! We ordered: 2 combo ( duck and crispy pork belly) 2 combo (duck and roast pork) Wonton soup (ngl the wonton skin is a bit thicker than preferred but the filling is good. BUT don't just eat the filling that would be rude lol) I'm very happy that this gem exists outside of Chinatown. There are some Americanized Chinese food on the menu. But if they continue having my duck and crispy pork belly, I'm happy

I was in the area and wanted some roasted meats for lunch. Did a search on Yelp and found this place. The restaurant is dark and looks a bit dingy (which is why I took my food to go). There were a handful of people getting lunch at that hour (around noon). The people that worked there were very nice. I ordered the roast pork and roast pig over rice. Came out to $14 which is more than what I'm used to paying (compared to Brooklyn). However, the meats were pretty flavorful and my craving was satisfied!

Amazing food with strong flavors that leave strong impressions You can take out or order in and sit down. The cashier was happy to greet you and take your order, but did not rush you. Super friendly, would come back just to say hello Interior was clean and orderly. Was also pretty inviting to dine in so I did Takeaway notes: great food for it's price point and food that will leave you wanting to come back again

House Special Fried Rice with Chicken Wings and Crab Meat Roll

When you first walk in, there is a lot of yelling for the orders; chaotic and loud. The food was okay (nothing crazy to rave about but it did have some flavor); the crab stick, while simple, was pretty good though. HOWEVER, $19 for this is ridiculous when I could have gotten more for the same amount somewhere else. After eating my stomach was also upset, grumbling all afternoon (my friend who had also joined me to eat here informed me that he had to use the restroom after eating). Not worth the money.

Roast Pork and Roast Duck over Rice. $12. Delicious.

If you're looking for Cantonese pork, duck or chicken in midtown, the offerings aren't great. Meats are typically dry or overcooked, not to mention crazy expensive. Enter Hop Won. A no frills Cantonese BBQ joint that is the answer to my gastronomic cravings. Two meats over rice and cabbage for $13. I typically go with Roast Pig and Roast Duck over rice and its delicious. Don't let the far less than delightful interior deter you! It's worth it.

Stopped by this random Chinese takeout place near my work. Stepping in, it's one long corridor of tables and chairs and to the right is the ordering/kitchen. The combo dishes range around $12 which is decently priced for the neighborhood. I got the beef chow fun for $13 and honestly, it was pretty decent and wasn't stuck together. I won't say it's the best one I had but for a Chinese take out, it has good flavoring but I wish the beef was more sliced thin and more bean sprouts added. Based on today's visit, I would give it a high 3 stars and will visit again. UPDATE: I went back today Feb 20th and ordered chicken with broccoli combo with white rice. It came with an egg roll which was somewhat hard in some areas meaning they did not fry it completely. Also the chicken was in chunks and it goes back to what I said above earlier, they need to do a better job slicing their proteins as things should not come chunky. Based off two visits now, I will give this place 2 stars.

It's your average NYC Chinese Takeout place except bigger and with plenty of seating. It looks like a very popular spot to grab lunch where you tell the counter what # you want from their Menu which is plainly displayed in front of you. Don't count on them getting your special requests done. They got mine wrong (I wanted brown rice instead of regular white). I guess can't blame them as it was the lunch rush still (it was 2pm when I was there)??? Still, for the price, anything you get here will have been cooked fresh for you and is worth it for being in Midtown Manhattan. I will definitely go to them again because the food is good and I can get it FAST.

Roasted duck and chicken over rice. You can take out and eat it in a pocket park nearby. There are several lovely ones in the neighborhood.

Amazing restaurant! My favorite in midtown. So cheap and authentic. And the owner lady is so nice. Roasted duck and roasted chicken over rice is only $13.

This is one of the few, if not the only Chinatown-style Cantonese restaurant in midtown east. There's nothing fancy about this place, but it's spot on when it comes to what you'd expect to find if you walked into a random restaurant in Chinatown. Their most popular items are probably their roast meats over rice dishes. Pick from any combination of roast pork, soy sauce chicken, roast duck, or bbq pork served over rice and veggies. It's a hefty meal for less than $10. They also have plenty of other made to order Chinese dishes to choose from. Their wonton noodle soup and beef stew over rice are two of my favorites. It gets crowded by noon. So try to get there early if you're in a rush.

Very close to my office so I decided to try it out one day. When you walk in, you can tell it is authentic because of all the meat hanging. The food was good, but nothing too spectacular in my opinion. Generous portion for the price though!

Smaller container for 3 meat plate. Not even that good.
    Thomas L.

It's been a few years since I worked in the area and ate here regularly, but the portion size and quality is slipping as of today's visit. Meats are lukewarm, not as flavorful and smaller portions now. I might as well save some money and go to Chinatown where I'll get a quality meal and larger portions for a better value overall. This will do in a pinch, but I won't be happy about it. I should've given the new Poké spot next door a shot..

My friend had the chicken dumplings. He said they were okay. I thought they were overcooked. My steamed shrimp shumai were fine, but steamed, they didn't have much flavour. The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

The pacing of the meal for the quantity of food received seemed very rushed, and we didn't really have a chance to relax and enjoy any of the courses. However, the quality of the experience was a complete disaster particularly for the price. Clearly, the packed restaurant would disagree, but for the four of us anyway, we would not return. It started with the check in process at what felt like a long hotel front desk with multiple, self important hosts and hostesses overseeing your entrance to the cavernous bar/waiting area. One problem is the noise is so deafening that you can't really hear what they say to you but we check in a few minutes early and waited obediently in the bar area chatting. After about 30 minutes (15 after our reservation time), and watching numerous parties large and small who arrived after us be seated by the hostesses wandering through the dimly lit space who peer quizzically and ask your name, my husband went to ask for an update. (We joked that those vibrating lighted buzzers alerting when your table was ready would have been super helpful, but it was amusing to watch while we waited). It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. (And you'll never see such a heavy wine pour at a restaurant... they filled the glass almost to the rim - which was not even something I'd do for myself when I'm home.) Definitely recommended.
