There are two kiosks by the entrance to order and they also have the menu up behind the counter. I believe you can also order from the counter as well if you don't want to use the kiosks. Easy to order from the kiosks and I tried the general tsos chicken and bones ribs. I had my order to go and it was packaged nicely and there wasn't a long wait. The food was good. They also had seating area in the back for eating in. They are only open until 8 pm during the week and closed on Sundays. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

Hop won is not a bad Chinese restaurant you just have to make the right choices. You definitely have to stay away from the chicken wings. First of all the chicken wings with a combo is really a half wing so you will get 3 half wings with the boneless ribs combo. Doesn't matter how many times you say cook it well done its always red in the middle. Crispy out of shape wings on the outside but it never fails to have some red on the inside. The General Tso chicken taste much better than it looks. I read online that that the bourbon chicken was good but it wasn't good to me - it was tasteless. My favorite dish is the Orange Beef - its really good and spicy. I also tried the boneless ribs which was average but I guess you can ask for sauce because its really dry. Egg rolls are okay - you can't screw that up. Hop Won is not a top notch Chinese Restaurant but its more on the average side. It gets pretty busy and a lot of the customers are ordering the duck but I have yet to try that. Maybe next time I will step outside of my comfort zone and order the Duck. read more

Stopped by this random Chinese takeout place near my work. Stepping in, it's one long corridor of tables and chairs and to the right is the ordering/kitchen. The combo dishes range around $12 which is decently priced for the neighborhood. I got the beef chow fun for $13 and honestly, it was pretty decent and wasn't stuck together. I won't say it's the best one I had but for a Chinese take out, it has good flavoring but I wish the beef was more sliced thin and more bean sprouts added. Based on today's visit, I would give it a high 3 stars and will visit again. UPDATE: I went back today Feb 20th and ordered chicken with broccoli combo with white rice. It came with an egg roll which was somewhat hard in some areas meaning they did not fry it completely. Also the chicken was in chunks and it goes back to what I said above earlier, they need to do a better job slicing their proteins as things should not come chunky. Hop Won is Midtown Manhattan's answer to Chinatown cravings. Not the most authentic but close enough. The hanging roasted meats by the window gives them a little more credibility and gives me a little more confidence in them. Whether you are in the mood for roasted chicken, duck, and/ or pork; they got it. The menu is mostly Cantonese style like wonton noodle soup and a few other items are fast food Chinese style like chicken and broccoli over rice. Time to time I really crave for Cantonese rice noodle soups that my grandma usually makes for me when I was a kid. Although it does not taste home made here but very acceptable. Shredded pork with pickled cabbage rice noodle soup is what I always opt in for on chilly days. The amount of meat, pickled cabbage, and rice noodles are generous. The soup base is very weak but the combination of flavors of the ingredients make up for it. Roasted Duck in Rice Noodle Soup. This bowl usually comes with the yellow egg noodles that everyone knows but I am a big fan of the thinner rice noodles so I ask to substitute it. Roasted Duck has crispy skin and it adds flavor to the rice noodle soup. Yes, it's greasy but that's the point! It doesn't come with enough duck meat nor taste authentic like restaurants in Chinatown but does an alright job to satisfy. Midtown is a Cantonese food desert with most restaurants serving Szechuan, Northern China cuisine, or bizarre Thai/Chinese combos. Great for a budget lunch. I ordered the bitter melon with beef w/ side of rice ($8.31). Fresh bitter melon, poor quality beef, in a black bean sauce. I also got the Young Chow Fried Rice ($9). The fried rice had onions, roasted pork, good amount of shrimp, egg, chicken, carrots, and peas. I loved that everything was piping hot and fresh off the wok. Enough food for 4 or 5 meals. The lunch line is crazy. There are three all bunched together. Fast food combo plate lunch line, order line, and then pick up line in successions from the door going into the restaurant. One of the ladies at the front taking your order also screeches your order is ready. I don't recommend anything with beef but their roast pork and chicken look really good. read more

This place offers a good selection of authentic Chinese food at decent prices. What makes it even more authentic? The roasted hanging meat (like you see in Chinatown). That's when I know I've picked the right place. Nothing gives me more comfort than eating the Roast Pork over Rice with a Fried Egg on top. On the printed menu, I would suggest you try the Roast Meats over rice, or any of their noodle soups (I suggest the Chef's Special Dan Dan Noodle Soup). For more authentic dishes, look for what's hand-written on the white board (Bitter Melon, anyone?) The place is pretty clean with plenty of room if you want to sit down and eat. This time, craving some noodle soup. I go up to the counter and ask for Beef Noodle Soup (in my broken chinese). The lady hands me my food in literally 3 minutes. I look at it and it looks oddly familiar. Then, I realized I've EATEN HERE BEFORE.
