Took my wife here for Valentine's Day and we ordered the Octopus appetizer. It came out with 4 tiny little cuts (bites) of slightly over-cooked octopus on a bed of tasty risotto. However, for $24.00 it was unimpressive. Next, my wife ordered the Short Ribs and I ordered the Halibut. Both dishes came with a choice of side salad or soup. We both chose the Caesar Salad and it was okay but lacked much dressing or flavor. Then the main dishes came out. I can't speak for the Short Ribs as I didn't taste them, but the Halibut was in a curry sauce that wasn't actually very good. Overall we felt it to be mediocre food at quite a premium. read more

We had a fabulous dinner Friday night. We were a large party of 10. The waiter was patient and knew the menu well providing advice and getting all orders delivered to everyone at the same time. I had the scallop dinner which I would order again. The servings were all ample and arranged attractively. We found the restaurant quiet as compared to most. The ocean views and ocean breezes are a perk. Parking is a breeze in garage and stores that make up this location are fun to browse after dinner. This is my new fav! read more

But the food here was so bad- the fresh raw oysters look nothing but fresh- I had to squeeze lottta lemons and add sauce to them- Fried calamari was soggy and not crunch at all- sauce wasn't all that good either- Mussels were horrendous- I usually don't want to waste food so I pack to go left overs but was seriously debating for this one.. Really disappointed in our last visit...though we have been regulars, this was our first time back in a while. Sadly, we've decided to go to Poseidon, Jakes or Pacific Coast Grill from here on out. Still get an ocean view but with a better experience. Along with the "bread charge" that some other restaurants are also passing on to guests these days, we were tagged at Pacifica with a petty $1.00 charge when 2 of us dared to split a basic $11 mixed green salad before our pricey meal. The server didn't tell us even though we said we were sharing it. It showed up on the bill. I mean, how petty is that when you are spending $150! Next, my partner's salmon was served completely undercooked (almost raw) and cold in the inside. He had to send it back... and wait 10 more minutes for the SAME piece of salmon to come back out (rather than cooking a new piece). Wow! I wish I could give this restaurant more stars, but can't since we were not able to eat dinner. The place stays packed and we were just visiting for the evening. Here is what I liked: - Parking underneath the restaurant, which they validate...a great thing given how hard it can be to park in Del Mar. - Beautiful ocean views from the outdoor patio. Not crowded feeling, not too loud. - Great wine list, large selection of cocktails...all listed on an iPad "wine list" - We shared a few appetizers: Mussels, Beets and Burrata, and Calamari. All were really good. - Our meals were excellent. I had the Porcini Dusted Sea Scallops, which were some of the best scallops I've had in a long time and presented with some very tasty mushrooms, bacon, etc. - Service was very good. Attentive, but not rushed. - One person in our party was celebrating a birthday and the waitress brought out a small creme brulee with a candle. Tried this place yesterday for takeout and LOVED IT! Minus one star for a mistake on my order but still 4 stars bc QUALITY DELICIOUSNESS Got the Berry Waffles and wow, really good, especially that whipped cream!! It literally tastes like icecream; heavenly!!! I also got the breakfast potatoes and thought they were some of the best I've ever had, cooked to perfection, nice and soft, with a bit of crisp on the outside,, and that goat cheese is to die for!! SO GOOD that I actually came back again this morning for takeout and tried the avocado toast which was great, but ordered ANOTHER side of those delicious breakfast potatoes that I couldn't stop thinking about.... The only problem?? When I got back home, to my disappointment, I saw that they accidentally gave me a side of bacon instead :( which I'm sure is delicious too but I do not eat any red meat including bacon, so I have no choice but to let it go to waste, (and I hate food waste!!) even though I had to pay for it... What an awful experience we had at Pacifica. I was so incredibly excited to take my dad here and enjoy the upstairs patio overlooking the water. Alas there was a party of 20+ out there screaming and yelling the entire time. Servers kept apologizing but the manager did ZERO to stop them. He stood there and watched other patrons be unable to even hear each other, grimacing, and covering their ears. Awful. If you want to let a party have the full run of the patio force them to rent it all out. Came here for a family dinner on Thanksgiving weekend. I will start by saying that the address does not navigate you to the restaurant and it is very challenging and confusing to get to. We ended up parking in the structure and walking around the whole place before we found it. Our group had a pre-fix menu that we enjoyed and started off with a spring roll which was good, i got the sea bass entree and was one of the best sea bass fish I ever had. It had a beautiful coconut broth with it and the fish was a good texture. Dessert was creme brulee and also tasty. I would absolutely comeback for the seabass. Parking is validated. read more

I used to come here a few times a year for business dinners when co-workers would visit from out of town. For this occasion, a group of us showed up for happy hour where we gathered outside on the north patio next to a corridor of the shopping plaza. It was too bad the May gray skies were in effect as the view of the sunset from the restaurant's west patio is amazing on afternoons/evenings with good visibility. Small bites were $2-3 off and large bites were $2 cheaper as part of the HH specials so I ordered one of the latter, the angel hair pasta. The dish came with rock shrimp, artichokes, spinach, arugula pesto and chili flakes. What I liked best was that the sauce was not too creamy so it was lighter on the stomach. Park downstairs in the underground structure of the plaza and get your ticket validated by your server or the host. Dogs were permitted in the outside seating areas, but if they are large in size, there is not much space for them to lie down and chill. read more

A great neighborhood restaurant with excellent food and very good service. All of the items we ordered were well-prepared and it was apparent that they take great care in choosing the ingredients and matching them in each dish. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by its bread and this was the case here: hot, crusty sourdough bread served with soft butter on the side. The Cajun Clam Chowder was a pleasant surprise, as it was flavorful, but not too spicy. The Burrata Cheese plate with prosciutto and figs was nicely done. Sea Bass was served with rice in a green curry sauce which was mild and did not overwhelm the fish. Star of this meal was the 7 ounce filet served over silky soft polenta with mushrooms, a pearl onion, and multi-colored baby carrots in a rich beefy sauce. As good as the filet itself was, I actually enjoyed all of the filet's neighbors even more. Burnt Cream (aka creme brûlée) was a very pleasant ending. Excellent place for a fabulous meal overlooking the sea at Del Mar. The Calamari was so tender and lightly breaded with two delicious sauces that weren't needed but appreciated! The crab cake was good but, sorry, nothing like an eastern shore (of Maryland) crab cake ;) For entrees, we had the Mahi Mahi and the Seared Ahi Tuna over sticky rice. Food was....ok. I came here on a Monday to have a team lunch with my manager and coworker. We sat in the patio area and the view was amazing. A little chilly so I'd recommend bringing a jacket. I was debating between the catfish and the salmon dish so I asked the waiter for his opinion. He said that the catfish dish was very large and that the salmon dish was what "made the restaurant." This kinda piqued my interest so I got that.... The sugar spiced salmon dish was ok. I expected the dish to be sweet and kinda like a honey brown sugar baked salmon but it was not. Only the yellow sauce was slightly sweet. The salmon itself was not overcooked but definitely needed some more salt or some other flavor. Overall, it was a bit lack luster for me. (To manager, if you see this, I'm sorry I lied that the dish was good. It was just alright haha.) If this is what "made the restaurant," I'm not sure how much I wanna try the rest of the menu. On the other hand, my coworkers got the Cubans and the catfish dish. They enjoyed their meal. Portion-wise, those were 2-3X bigger than my dish. This kinda made it awkward since I had to eat a lot slower and I still had to wait for my coworkers to finish their dish. We had gotten appetizers (fried calamari and raw oysters) earlier so I was not hungry after my meal but definitely not stuffed. For the appetizers, the oysters were good. The fried calamari was just ok. I didn't like how the breading kinda falls apart. For the dipping sauce, they had a fish sauce based one and a creamier mayo-based (I believe) one. The sauces were just basic for me. Overall, my favorite parts were the raw oysters and the view. I'd recommend trying something other than the salmon. read more

Came here last night for Friday night dinner and it was a good first experience. The food was was very well presented and tasty and the views from the patio were awesome. We had the Chilean seabass and the sea scallops along with some delicious sides of Brussel sprouts and asparagus and some New England clam chowder and crispy calamari for starters. I gave them a strong 4 stars for overall experience and took off one star just because I had to search for my waiter 3-4 times when I needed something. I went to Pacifica for a business lunch recently, my first visit after a two year gap. This restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza on Camino Del Mar which puts it in the heart of the village. It's location on the upper floor of the plaza provides an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean. The bottom level of the plaza has paid parking which is free for the first two hours. This is especially handy in the summer when the beach traffic hits Del Mar. The menu is eclectic and reflects typical Southern California cuisine. I had the Mediterranean salad with a piece of blackened salmon on it. The ingredients were fresh and the dressing was clearly made at the restaurant (not the bottled kind!). The fish was perfectly done with just the slightest char on the outside and tender on the inside the four ounce portion was just right for what is a substantial sized salad. Decided to go to the collection of upscale restaurants located at Main and 15th Street. Underground parking is managed by LAZ, the big parking outfit that has migrated down from LA to chisel whatever money out of San Diegans that ACE somehow missed. Be prepared to try to figure out how and how much you'll be paying for the privilege of parking at this pricey, tiered mini mall. The restaurant and bar had perhaps 15 customers seated at 4:45 pm. Monark across the walkway had 100 people or more with every seat at the bar taken. I didn't care for Pacifica this time around. It's Happy Hour, but the pleasant bartender Tyler is intent on leading me to expensive overpriced wines by the glass. $20 a glass during Happy Hour? I settled on an unremarkable glass for $14. $2 off from $16 during regular hours. Four bartenders serving 15 people. Make it work by selling their most expensive drinks. Brilliant mind at work here. I ordered a small bowtie pasta dish. It looked great. No cream sauce as Tyler had described. I'd rate it "A" on appearance, but "C-" on taste. Who ever prepared this dish must have been a trainee or something. No taste. At this point I decided to cut my loses and leave. I won't be back until ownership changes. Too bad. Its an attractive spot. My advice: if you look upscale and your menus describes upscale dishes, make sure your kitchen delivers. read more

Pacifica has beautiful views of the ocean and a great patio to sit out on. The newly designed bar is super fun and has really cool light fixtures and a cute aquarium. The service you will get at Pacifica is excellent. Our server was so sweet, attentive, and just a joy to be around. My only complaint is that I asked for an extremely rare filet and instead got basically a medium cooked filet. They were very apologetic and of course offered to replace it, even the manager came over to apologize himself. The octopus small plate was okay although a bit burnt/overcooked. I guess the grills were just a bit too hot that night lol. I've had better food experiences here in the past but I'm sure it was just an off night. Everything else was wonderful! read more

Thank you San Diego Restaurant Week for having this as a location choice. The location of the restaurant is nice as you have views of the ocean from the outdoor seating area. The restaurant is located in a plaza which has parking and the parking ticket gets validated there. The outdoor seating area is set up very nicely with plenty of shade or sun for those who want that. The restaurant week lunch menu special was a soup or salad with a choice of entree, sandwich, burger, or entree salad. Starters and drinks were available at extra cost. We got the Cesar salad, clam chowder soup, fish tacos, fish & chips, the Brambleberry (drink), and the Grapefruit (drink). I thought the Cesar salad was done nicely. It was pre-dresses but wasn't soggy or drowning in dressing. The croutons were crunchy but not hard (my teeth thank you). The clam chowder was the best that I've ever had. The flavor was rich and the combination of items worked. Both drinks were very good with a very nice mix so they weren't to sweet. The tacos were okay, tasty but lacked in the complexity of flavor profiles. Don't get me wrong, they were still good and done well. The fish and chips had no complaints and the fries (chips) were really tasty. Our waitress was super nice and attentive as well as the other professional staff. I recently met up with a best friend to have lunch at Pacifica Del Mar. We ate dinner here many years ago. I've celebrated New Years Eve here. But it had been years since I've been back. They have a lunch menu and offered extra points on OpenTable. So what more of an incentive did we need to re visit Pacific Del Mar on a sunny afternoon. The restaurant was empty that day. Their patio with views of the ocean had a few tables occupied. Thank you Mr Manager/Host for seating us at the table right by the glass. We ordered: Baked pacific oysters $18: - The presentation was simple. The oysters were small. Two of them were unacceptably small. The raw oysters were topped with spinach, leeks, a cheese gratinee and then baked. The cheese gratinee was the star of this dish as it tasted creamy, rich, and had some essence of garlic. But the $18 price for the 6 small oysters wasn't justified. Lemongrass poached shrimp cocktail $15: - The shrimp wasn't jumbo as listed on the menu. They were more medium sized. The shrimp was over poached and tasted bland as well as tough. The cocktail sauce was average and needed more horseradish. $3 per shrimp for this appetizer was high. Crabmeat louie $18: - The salad was well plated and the bright baby carrots made the dish pretty. We weren't sure if the crab meat was fresh or prepackaged. The chopped romaine was fresh and friend enjoyed the yellow & red beets. She felt the salad was overdressed with the louie dressing. I thought the dressing was quite good. The dressing was similar to thousand island but without the sweet pickle relish. Barbecued sugar-spiced salmon $19: - My heart sunk when I saw the plate arrive at the table. The salmon was tiny. It was a long sliver. My heart perked up when I saw the doneness of the salmon. It was prepared a beautiful medium rare. The salmon tasted ocean fresh and was so supple. The fish was simply brilliant. The mustard sauce was delicately delicious and didn't over power the fish. The string beans were sauteed with fermented black beans which had a pungent salty punch to it. I liked it but felt it could have used half the fermented black beans. Creme brulee: - We were grateful when the server set the creme brulee on the table. She said she heard it was a birthday lunch. So thank you management for reading the comments on our OpenTable reservation. The creme brulee was fantastic. The sugary crust crackled when our hungry spoons dug in. The custard was so incredibly silky and smooth. You could see tons of vanilla bean flecks on the bottom of that beautiful custard. Chocolate Bon Bon $8: - The bon bon had an amaretto cookie filling. I'm not a fan of amaretto as the almond taste is too intense for me. The hard chocolate ganache was just ok and a bit thick. The cherry sauce was too sweet. It's been a couple of years since I've been here. Seems things have changed. This place used to be classy and very well managed. The bar tenders and servers were top tier and the vibe was always great. Now, appears they have subpar bar tenders and servers and the place is just not the same. Not sure if management has changed as well, but it has definitely lost its touch. The servers are there just to take your orders, brink you the food and drinks...and that's it. One of my favorite places to visit. It's across the street from L'Auberge Del Mar. You will not only enjoy your food and cocktails but also the views. It's so beautiful! I can stay here for hours and hours and still won't get tired! They have a parking garage which offers 2hours free parking plus $2 in every additional 30mins. But if you are dining in, don't forget to have them validate your parking receipt to get credit back. There's a lot of other fine dining restaurants nearby and shops to visit.
