HONEST REVIEW: Adelaide - L'Auberge (Del Mar). @la has some of the best views and vibes in San Diego. Located in Del Mar, you'll get beach views and fresh air, with delicious food and libations at their restaurant, @adelaide. They offer $10 Valet parking for Adelaide diners where you are just a short walk to cliffs and beach. As you enter, you walk into a stunning lobby and pristine bar area that just draws you in with the classy environment, beautiful white marble bar top, gold accents and perfect lighting. We went on Valentine's Day and although the restaurant wasn't too busy, our server did seem a bit overwhelmed and rushed (maybe under staffed?). See below for the full HONEST food review. *I will note this has been a favorite restaurant of ours for a while now and we've typically been impressed by the food, but our main dishes just didn't blow us away at this visit. Kid and friendly They offered a pretty good kids menu with great pricing too, but would recommend the pancake and French toast options to include either fruit or a breakfast meat for a full meal. What we ordered: Local Ceviche 10/10 - super fresh fish and the perfect amount of seasoning and lime juice - we couldn't stop eating this! Lobster Omelette 2/10 - huge miss, barely any lobster, the lobster was minced so almost seemed like a lobster salad, and the eggs were dry and seemed like they were from a carton. I ordered a side of hollandaise sauce to dip the omelette into, which made it tolerable to eat and not so dry and tasteless Fish Filet Sandwich with truffle fries - 9/10 it's hard to beat a perfectly toasted brioche bun and fish that just melts in your mouth! The sauces complement it perfectly and those truffle fries with a black garlic mayo dipping sauce Kids French toast sticks - 8/10 nothing special about this dish, just one slice of French toast cut into sticks (if you want a side like fruit or bacon you have to order that separately) Simply Grilled steak - 7/10 we had a hard time ranking this because it wasn't bad, but wasn't great either - it fell on the more average scale and the sides were a bit skimpy. Date of visit: December, 2025 Adelaide is located inside l'Auberge hotel in on Camino Del Mar in Del Mar. We came for brunch and had a nice corner table inside. You can see the ocean in the distance. Decor is contemporary. The waitress was pleasant, service was attentive and food was delivered in a timely manner. The Buddha bowl I ordered (About $24, Dec 2025) was delicious, colorful and a healthy portion. I would dine at Adelaide again. The food quality was atrocious--by far the worst I've had in San Diego. The steak was rubbery, and the chicken and fish smelled so bad it made me nauseous. We couldn't eat it. They charged 5$ to split a salad and $2 for ice in a whiskey. For my friend's birthday, they offered a "special dessert" that was laughable--melted marshmallows with two biscuits. Despite having a 6:30 reservation, we left at 10 p.m. without anyone checking on us or attempting to make it right. They tried to add a 20% tip, which we refused. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Adelaide before having to depart. The venue is upscale, casual with a covered patio so that you are outside yet completely shaded and overlooks the pool area. I tried their Green juice.... Kale Cucumber Ginger Apple Juice. It was a bit sweet so if I got it again, I'd ask if they could cut back on the apple as I think that is what was making it so sweet. Otherwise, delightful and made me feel like I was being "good" with the kale, ginger and cucumber first thing in the morning. Their avocado toast is loaded with avocado! Yum!! The stars are for the entertainment and view. The food was lackluster at best and inedible at worst. My chicken was so dry it was a challenge to chew and what I did chew tasted old and stale. The grass fed steaks were soooo grassy.. not even a hint of truffle in the truffle fries..I would not order food here again but would come for drinks and music. The musicians were phenomenal! Upon entering the hotel, walk straight and you see this restaurant with views of the pool, the ocean and it's bright modern casual surroundings. Seating indoors or outdoors available. The menu is limited and I would have preferred more French cuisine options, to be consistent with French name of the hotel. The menu offers mostly light southern cal lifestyle choices and the kitchen staff was most accommodating to dietary requests. With only one waitress, it was often a challenge to get attention. I remember in the 1960's, the half-timbered Del Mar Hotel was on the very site where Auberge Del Mar stands today. There is a traffic light right at the hotel from Camino Del Mar, so the access is easy. There is a handicapped parking space available right before the valet circle. The dining room at Adeleide is located at the rear of the lobby. It overlooks the pool and the ocean in the distance. The decoration is rather anonymous, with beiges predominating everywhere. The dining room opens at 5:00 pm in the evening. The fish of the day was most enjoyable. The wine list at Adeleide Restaurant offered some interesting wines, so I am sure you will find something that will please you. The waitress was pleasant. Romantic and gorgeous views of the ocean. My friends were and I were here last night for girls night. We caught Sunset and it was so magical. The views from this restaurant are unmatched. It is still fairly cool to march, so they did turn on the heaters for us and also gave us blankets! So don't let the cold water hold you back from trying this spot. We ordered a number of dishes, starting off with an amazing Focaccia bread, we enjoyed it so much we ordered another round! We ordered a few salads and then our entrees. The Chidori chicken was amazing, juicy and crispy. Our server was superintentive, really informative and very nice! we got bottled still water (i think the bottle said evian) - they also had sparkling (if thats more your style) started off with foccacia (comes with 3 large "blocks" of it) -- very soft, tasted like buttered toast, not rly sure what it came with but it was basically tasted like cream ceviche was delicious! the orangeyness was a nice surprise and i loved the crispy seasoned tortilla chips (also very cute) i ordered the jidori chicken as my main: the greens were pretty bitter but the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious -- crispy chicken skin and caramelized onion mash was also super soft and tasty i did have a little bit of a tough time cutting my chicken with the knife i had ginger lemon was very lemony -- tasted like a lemon ginger shot service is polite but i felt that it was a bit slow. We haven't eaten at the restaurant at the L'auberge in a few years, but what a treat! The service was wonderful and friendly and the food came out hot and delicious. My son's pancakes were so incredibly fluffy and all the eggs we ordered (some sunny side, some scrambled, some fried over hard) were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Bloody Marys also. Their in house bloody mary mix is vegetarian (no anchovies or clam juice) and delicious. read more

Gorgeous view of the ocean. The food is great, although not too many options to choose from and the service sometimes is lacking, so if you are in a rush, don't go. But if you have time and are looking for an amazing ambience, beautiful dishes and great view, then you would really enjoy this restaurant. read more

Yikes.... We were the first ones seated at opening at 5p. We didn't get our food until after 6p and no we didn't order at 5:59p. A party of the same size (4) seated at least 10-15 minutes after us got their food first. It was weird. Our server actually said our food was coming out in "four minutes." That is a direct quote. I thought that was pretty impressive he knew the flow of the kitchen. He was waaaaaaaaay off. Daughter A ordered scallops dish. She said "The best thing in here is the peas." Daughter B got the chicken. It was dry. Sigh.... Wife who was sharing the chicken plate with daughter ordered shrimp salad and felt the dressing was drowning the salad. My salmon was good but after waiting nearly an hour it was not enough to save the night and I was just ate for the sake of eating. No joy there which is sad. Dining, especially in a place as nice as Del Mar, and especially during a holiday staycation should be savored not lamented. During the ridiculous wait for our food I could see our server helping other tables but also running drinks to the outside bar in the lobby. Fine, if the server was swamped, was there nobody in the kitchen to run food? Our food was brought out by two ladies that I didn't see at all in the restaurant which was weird. Managers? Our server at the end apologized for the wait and took off the "appetizer." You can't even begin to visualize the giant a$$ air quotes I'm using on "appetizer." I've long enjoyed the unique oceanfront experience you can enjoy in many of SD County's restaurants, and I was completely delighted when we tried Adelaide for dinner recently. There aren't many restaurants that combine the fabulous food, excellent service, and incredible views that Adelaide provides :-) Tip: There's quite a cross-section of interesting wines on the wine list here, so I expect that you won't have a problem finding something you like Service during our visit was professional, friendly, and attentive. We received some spot-on recommendations, and ended up completely enjoying our dining experience from beginning to end. I've been here for the Spa for the 80 min Soulful Salt Stone massage but never had a chance to eat breakfast here. Am always on the hunt for the most perfect Acai bowl, and I think I found my new favorite! I now can only eat an Acai Bowl in a smoky dark ceramic bowl topped with mini flowers, epic fruit, and nuts. It's almost too pretty to eat, and yet I must. Love that this hotel is dog-friendly w/ a relaxed vibe by the beach. Would come here again for brekkie or brunch to take in the view. Cheers read more

Very nice experience at Adelaide. First of all, the views are so pretty. The open, yet covered, restaurant makes for a wonderful fresh breakfast setting. Everything during our stay was amazing. All the staff, such as the valet and bellhop, provided exceptional service that the entire experience would have been 5/5 if not for our server named Amy who ruined the entire image of the hotel and our last memory of L'Auberge as we checked out. The food was good quality and great selection but she did not make us feel welcome at all, acted super short and rude with us yet friendly to other tables, and forgot our requests which is fine but then seemed annoyed when reminded. We dined here for the third time and it is unfortunate because it was a perfect overall stay from the rooms to the views and drinks. They even gifted us a happy birthday prosecco for our mother daughter birthday! However, Amy being a representative employee of the hotel left a really poor taste in an other wise perfect stay. We will definitely be back and hopefully Amy will treat people of all backgrounds better in the future. read more

I had dinner here with a large group of colleagues as we were celebrating a 25-year anniversary. The 10 of us started off with drinks & appetizers. Then it was time for the mains. I had the miso glazed cod with scallops wontons in a consommé ($53). Others at the table ordered things like the bucatini with prawns, crab salad, Hokkaido scallops, etc. My dish was very mid. The wontons were tasteless. Although it was served with consommé, you're not given a spoon. I asked around my group and the consensus was the food was just average. We were waiting for our room to be ready just hanging out at the pool and wanted to see if they had the Lobster chowder available. The restaurant staff were friendly and warm. I have to say we are foodies and surprisingly enjoyed our breakfast from the hotel more than we did any of the local hotspots. Not sure if it's true or not but the chilaquiles are supposedly a family recipe from the chef and I believe it, they are that good. Also, order the acai bowl- it's only on the pool menu but you can order it at Adelaide for breakfast and it's incredibly refreshing. read more

Love the service here! Gorge is the best. Adelaide is a quite restaurant in a Del Mar hotel and it has an ocean view from no matter where you sit. I love the shakshuka (this is my third time ordering it) -- its so herby and fresh. They also make a great cappuccino. We have been coming to Adelaide for years and it has always been a great experience. The ambiance and service was fantastic, however the food was just lacking. We ordered the bone marrow and it was just okay, very little flavor and was partially undercooked. We also ordered the scallops... this dish just didn't make any sense. The scallops were tiny, completely unseasoned, had no sear on the outside what so ever. The vegetables that were served with it were nicely seared on the outside and completely raw on the inside and the puree had zero flavor. We chose L'Auberge for our anniversary trip. The property itself feels a bit tired (rooms and common spaces could use some refreshing), though the location is undeniably lovely. For our anniversary dinner, we decided to try Adelaide, the on-site restaurant. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. Service from our server was lacking, and the steak we ordered was poorly executed--it tasted like it had been torched to achieve the char we requested, leaving an unpleasant flavor. At the price point, it fell well short of expectations. The side dish that came with it also arrived cold. Overall, the food was just okay and not worth the premium pricing. On the positive side, some of the staff were excellent--Leo and Elyse at the front desk really stood out with their warmth and professionalism. Others, however, could benefit from additional training to elevate the guest experience to match the resort's reputation. We also encountered some confusion around room rates and resort fees, but Elyse was proactive and helpful in resolving it, which we truly appreciated. In short, beautiful setting and a few standout staff members, but the overall value and dining experience left us underwhelmed. read more

How have I never heard of this place?! While this restaurant is definitely pricey, it's great for a special occasion! Our family came here to watch the sunset. If you walk a bit across the restaurant, it has the most beautiful view of the beach and Del Mar. There was live music going and the ambiance was just perfect. Service was amazing! Our waiter explained everything to us just like a food critic and took the time to make recommendations. We took all of his recommendations and they were all absolutely amazing! The charcoal grilled oysters were a must-have and the Spanish octopus was so tender! Not chewy at all. For the entrees, the star of the show was the chicken. Super unexpected, but our waiter told us the chicken has been on the menu for 6 years. It was so tender--even the chicken breast! For dessert, we got the cheesecake. Wowow! Must order for sure. I stayed at the affiliated hotel for a work trip and it was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed breakfast here only one day. It was good, but incredibly expensive! I had an egg white frittata and a side of sausage. After tip it was $42. I know that's in part due to it being a high end hotel and restaurant, but still a shocking price for breakfast. My frittata was good, but needed salt and pepper. The sausage was good, but had a tough skin that my knife struggled to pierce through. I ended up just stabbing it with a fork to eat it. read more

Food & Drinks: The food is good, I really liked the quinoa bowl and the shakshuka. The cocktails were potent and delicious. Service: The service was a bit slow and scattered. Our server didn't seem to want to pay attention to us. He wouldn't come to take our food order, we had two drinks(which some other server randomly came and took order for) by the time he finally came in for lunch order. At first, I thought he had just forgotten but he pulled the same stunt for some other aspects of the service. The food took forever to come in too. Ambiance: This place has a beautiful ocean-view dining room, which I am sure would be wonderful at dinnertime. Absolutely stunning area. Logistics: They have valet parking which makes it so much easy because all nearby roads suck at the parking sitch and there's no lot or anything nearby. No stars for Adelaide for tonight's Christmas dinner. So disappointed. Worst thin pork ever... impossible to cut, burnt wagyu strip loin... (same runny, odd brown sauce on both entrees), vegan butternut squash ravioli was stale and flavorless, salads were bitter, gelato was also flavorless, churros were horrible. Something is wrong at Adelaide. $150/plate prefix menu... OMG disaster. Our heater was broken, open ocean air seating... and no attempt to fix the heater. We were freezing. Perfect spot for a sunny or rainy day! My friend I decided to try this restaurant tucked away in a classy area in Del Mar. The happy hour was recommended , however we were too early and decided to eat at the actual restaurant rather than the lobby. It's a very dog friendly establishment, I saw three of the bigger breeds during my short visit. The restaurant is placed in center of the hotel and is valet only (no fee- just tips). Our table over looked the courtyard and the pool. It was raining this particular day so the view of the ocean wasn't as pretty as it would be on a clear day. They had remote controlled plastic pull down walls to shield customers from rain. The vibe feels like you should dress up, however on a Friday afternoon I dressed very casual and didn't look out feel out of place. The drink selection on the menu are very "grown up" , no thrills but strong ;) . I tried the swordfish sandwich, which apparently was a new addition and very popular. The fish was moist not dry , but the flavor was mid. The tartar sauce definitely dressed up the flavor of the sandwich, but personally I'd enjoy it more if it had some seasoning. read more
