Perfect spot for a sunny or rainy day! My friend I decided to try this restaurant tucked away in a classy area in Del Mar. The happy hour was recommended , however we were too early and decided to eat at the actual restaurant rather than the lobby. It's a very dog friendly establishment, I saw three of the bigger breeds during my short visit. The restaurant is placed in center of the hotel and is valet only (no fee- just tips). Our table over looked the courtyard and the pool. It was raining this particular day so the view of the ocean wasn't as pretty as it would be on a clear day. They had remote controlled plastic pull down walls to shield customers from rain. The vibe feels like you should dress up, however on a Friday afternoon I dressed very casual and didn't look out feel out of place. The drink selection on the menu are very "grown up" , no thrills but strong ;) . I tried the swordfish sandwich, which apparently was a new addition and very popular. The fish was moist not dry , but the flavor was mid. The tartar sauce definitely dressed up the flavor of the sandwich, but personally I'd enjoy it more if it had some seasoning. read more

THE GOOD: The only good thing about our dinner here was our waitress. She was very nice, helpful and did the best that she could. THE BAD: Everything else. We went here for dinner and upon entering, you go through the hotel lobby. It was SO LOUD with music (which eventually turned into live music), talking, dogs barking (yes, dogs) and several babies happen to be very unhappy. The issue with this is that the restaurant is immediately CONNECTED to the lobby - so you hear and see everything going on in the lobby. We were having dinner here for my husband's milestone birthday and we were EXTREMELY disappointed from start to finish. What a huge mistake for us not reading other horrible reviews because they were SPOT ON! The food was BEYOND horrible. My husband got the pate for an appetizer and he said that he had eaten better pate from Costco! What ???? This is not good. I had the gem salad and it was mostly just a few pieces of lettuce. We also ordered bread (as it isn't given to you) and it was focaccia with 3 different kinds of butter that were all SPICY AF and were about the most unappealing looking butters I've ever seen. They all looked like...well...for lack of other words...poop! Now, they didn't taste like that, but they were spicy and frankly, just weird! My husband had ordered a "22 oz prime rib steak". HUGE MISTAKE!! Not only was it FAR FAR from 22 oz...it was NOT prime at all. This meat looks like it had in a previous life been either a shoe or charcoal. It was HORRIBLE!! How can a "nice" restaurant even dare serve this!!! My scallops were inedible because of the way they were (not) cooked. I sent them back one time as they were almost raw and when I got them back...nothing had been done!! When my husband wanted to order wine, the waitress sent over the Sommelier. Well..this poor guy had NO idea what he was doing. He said he was new and his role was "F & B Director/Sommelier". While he was very nice, he was NOT a Sommelier at all. I reminded our waitress at the end that it was my husband's birthday and she brought the desert menu and said "pick anything it will be on us". Yes..that's nice....but seriously...most nice restaurants will give you a nice dessert with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate or something very nice. NOPE..NOT THIS ONE. We paid almost $300 for a meal that we just wanted to forget - couldn't eat most of - had to deal with all the noise and just wanted to get the hell out of there. WHAT A DISASTER!! We came here on Christmas Eve to have breakfast since we were staying in the hotel and as we approached the front of the restaurant, I was greeted by Santa. He greeted me with a smile and I also took a picture with him. It was super cute. The restaurant was very beautiful and even though it's ocean and pool front, it was warm and cozy, comfortable chairs, linen napkin's and had a Christmas feel. The service was also great. They had the regular brunch menu along with a Christmas menu for both food and beverages. I ordered coffee and a Bellini. I also ordered steak and eggs. The food was good and so were the drinks. I will definitely come back to try other options as well as enjoy the amazing ambiance the entire lobby and restaurant scene. We would not recommend Adelaide at L'Auberge Hotel in Del Mar. We eat out a lot and never had problems until this restaurant. We were there to see our friend for his birthday, he was the singer that evening. We had a reservation for 7 pm, I phoned the hotel and they said the entertainment starts at 5:30 so we changed the reservation to 5:30. We sat down about 5:20 and eventually they said the singer will start at 6:30 but the manager told us we had can only have the table until 7:30, a 2 hour limit, I explained that we were misinformed by the hotel, but it did not matter to the manager. The singer didn't start until 6:55, so we had our table for 35 minutes left in our reservation. The restaurant seems to be more concerned with making maximum money than customer satisfaction. My wife was doing a video of the singer and was sitting at an empty table. A waitress told her to leave, people were coming. My wife touched the waitress on the shoulder saying sorrow. The waitress says if you do that again,"I will call security and have you removed". My wife was shocked. We spent close to $400 at the restaurant and the bar , we were told to leave our table. I have been going to Adelaide in L'auberge since the old kitchen 1540 and coastline days and all I can say is wow. The amount of staff turnover and lack of care for their employees is absurd. Prices are through the roof for food that isn't worth another take. Drinks are insanely irregular and also $20+ per cocktail... that's for most cocktails with low shelf liquor. The management has absolutely ruined this place and the ownership has done nothing about it but watch. Ambulances have been called on numerous occasions for food allergy issues. Management has yelled or reprimanded employees in front of guests. The managers don't even know about liquor or wine or food knowledge. Go at night and pick a wine and ask a manager for the tasting notes or for a somm lol. I used to love coming here and seeing all my friends and family while getting some amazing service from the morning and night time crew. The only face I recognize now is Amy. What happened to all the amazing people that used to make this place flow? They've left and been replaced with mediocre managers and employees who are overworked and do not care about the place; just their job. read more

Went for brunch with a groups of 7. As it's a hotel restaurant you expect the prices to be high but for the quality delivered i was pleasantly surprised. The patio has a decent distant view of the ocean which is perched over the hotels pool and cabanas. The other reviews complaining about the view obviously expected the restaurant to be beachfront, which is just poor planning/expectations. The reception and waiting staff were pleasant and friendly and seated us promptly at our reservation time. They brought everyone waters without asking and since we had a two year old with us they offered a kid menu which you can draw on and a cup of crayons. A nice experts service since a lot of people dinning their are tourists with children. We order some mimosas and two bloody Mary's. They were all good however the bloody Mary's which were each made by one of the 2 bartenders on staff were significantly different which shows lack of standard for their drinks. One had 2 olives and a lime and the other had 1 lime and a green garnish. The first one had a good spice to it and the second and zero spice whatsoever. This was especially surprising as I was told that are some a premade batch. I digress. The food across the border was presented quickly and was delicious. The presentation of the food was nice and the plate were complementary. Even tried the kids waffles and cup of fruit which were delicious. The fruit tasted especially fresh. Overall had a great experience at the restaurant and as a Del Mar native I would return for brunch. At first we weren't quite sure but after sipping our first during and chatting with the staff everyone was so nice. It was pretty busy and most walked up to the bar. Drinks were very reasonably priced and everyone was super nice. The food looked good but we were just there to grab a drink and walk. Vodka Martini's were really good and my husband said his lime draft beer was refreshing. Again expected a high priced martini but was pleasantly surprised. I live in Del Mar so there was no reason for me to stay at the hotel, but I still wanted to try the restaurant after seeing it on Instagram. If you don't want to valet, there is also a lot of free two hour street parking in the area. FOOD Avocado toast with crab: Delicious!!! There was so much avocado on the bread, which was great. *A ruined New Year's Eve celebration* We made reservations for an early New Year's Eve dinner at Adelaide at L'Auberge based on positive previous experience. We used OpenTable as usual, and deliberately selected the the "a la cart" option, and not the fixed menu which was ridiculously expensive and bloated. However, when we are seated, the server insisted that the only reservation they honor is the fixed menu option which we did not want. We tried to discuss the issue with the manager and find some solution, but they were disrespectful and quite forceful in their decision to cancel our reservation and kick us out on New Year's eve. We felt angry and disappointed, as we didn't expect to be treated so poorly by a restaurant we patronized, and on such special night. A shame, really! read more

While the food here is admittedly pretty good, today's lackluster service really overshadowed even how good the food was. In short, I hosted a business dinner here and while the view was beautiful and the food was good enough, the service was unfortunate. I had to ask the bartender and another wait staff employee to help find our server twice. I had to clarify orders and was disappointed by the small appetizer portions, especially since the server didn't even point this out or suggest an additional order to accommodate our 8 person group. Food was extremely slow to order, even slower to come out, and was ultimately uneven. Appetizers would come out very sparsely and weren't even the full order (e.g., requested two orders of something, one came out and the other came out 15 mins later even though it was the same food). Half the entrees came out which was awkward for the guests who didn't have food. I was really disappointed, especially after having gone there previously and having a great experience initially. The food exceeded our expectations- Stand outs included Caesar salad, Corn Risotto, Hamachi Crudo, and we ended our meal with the Basque Cheesecake which was sooo good. Light flavor and unique flavor - it was perfect. They have a full bar with a great selection of cocktails, and local beers. Service was great- our server and staff were friendly, attentive, and so accommodating, which made our meal so enjoyable we were already talking about going back. Ambience is very relaxed yet upscale and the weather and cozy atmosphere was perfect for a comfortable fun night with friends during a busy holiday weekend- and they're dog friendly! At LONG last L'Auberge del Mar has a really fabulous chef, Nick Green, in their relativity new restaurant Adelaide! The food is sublime, filled with culinary surprises and deliciousness! Without a doubt it has been a challenge getting a restaurant up and rolling in this strange time of Covid. As we all know staffing for all sorts of businesses has been difficult. When you see only two wait staff working a large room; maybe a deep breath and some understanding will make your dining experience more enjoyable?! Speaking of wait staff I want to mention a great waiter, Trace! This young man should write the definitive book on fine dining service. He is positive, informative and spot on with his attentiveness! I'm obsessed with great food and beverage and it's rare to find a new restaurant in San Diego that blows my mind. Adelaide blew my mind...and I'm fairly certain it's because of chef Nick Green. I don't care if the dish is Korean, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, or French inspired - the seasoning, texture, and balance of each dish sent our table of four over the moon. Not since Jeune et Jolie (under the cooking of Eric Bost) or Taco Maria (Carlos Salgado) have we been as impressed with a single meal that was within driving distance. BTW - this is the first hotel dinner restaurant that has been this impressive since the Blue Duck Tavern in the DC Park Hyatt. Is service great? Not yet. It'll get there....but the people are genuinely kind, humble, and trying their best to make the experience meaningful. Wine service has a ways to go...but that is coachable and this crew can figure that stuff out soon enough. The wine list is decent - but Chef Green's wife is a Som and over the beverage program - so I'm confident she'll make the list her own over time. It had a reasonable burgundy that tasted great...so I was happy :) For now - go for the food. Especially the halibut, corn risotto, and hamachi. Oh...and I never get cheesecake...never....but this cheesecake (my wife ordered)...I will order it every. single. time (it's a Basque recipe and has buttermilk sorbet). First of all - we went there because it was listed as a restaurant with a view. Really, all you see is the pool area ( and all the people in bathing suits). In the distance, beyond the pool you can see the ocean. Hardly a "restaurant with a view" experience. Waiter (Sam) was very knowledgeable about the food and gave some good recommendations. However, after that he occasionally stopped by. We watched him be very chatty with all the tables around us he was waiting on and didn't pay attention to two key things about our dining experience: 1) We brought a bottle of wine which he opened for us, but never once came by to pour it for us. We poured ourselves until the bottle was empty. Meanwhile, the "busser" kept coming by to pour the bottled water. 2) We ordered salads first. However, the dinner came well before we were done with the salads. The person delivering the food just put the food on table and left. When we mentioned it to Sam, he gave an excuse and didn't offer to fix things. Also, this is not a peaceful place to eat. Babies crying and parents not taking their kid out until they calmed down. All in all - very good food, but poor dining experience. This is really a restaurant for people staying at the resort - not a place you would want to go to for a special dining experience. If you're the type of person who finds a good meal includes a good view, and being taken care of while being their guest, then this is NOT the place to go. I could have opened and poured my own wine and made a steak at home for much less and would have enjoyed the experience more -and would not have had to listen to crying babies and looking at overweight people in their bathing suits while eating. read more

I love the creative colorful, and delicious mixture of sauces on the Alaskan Halibut. Make your reservation early in the evening to get a good view of the the ocean. The excellence of service and extraordinary culinary carries out throughout dessert. We also have a wonderful time watching the wedding party. I ordered the Wildflower Honey Semifreddo. I was very impressed by this dish. It was a fusion between Indian, Chinese, Mexican, and Hawaiian recipes. Beautiful combination of caramel crunch, horchata ice cream, and mezcal pineapple. Was a terrible experience. We had made reservations and had family outside the country come join for a birthday. While waiting for our food order, the kitchen flooded. The staff comp'd our party's drinks and said they set us up with a restaurant across the street. We took their advice and went across the street. Unbeknownst to us, they sat us outside, IN THE RAIN. It would have been better for them to not give us a suggestion or even confirm the next restaurant would sit us out in the RAIN.
