We had a spacious cabin (#13) with everything we needed and the beds were very comfy. The ONLY small issue we'd address is that the oven in our place was maybe a bit outdated and I only bring this up because when we used just the oven, the entire stove/unit became so hot to touch that you have to wear a mitt to open it as the door handle, dials, everything become very hot. Other than that, everything was PERFECT and we absolutely love our stay here! It is so quiet and peaceful, everyone is very friendly, and there's so much room to play/relax and enjoy yourself. Also right across from the beach and Asilomar conference grounds. I also want to give a BIG shout out to the girl who works the front desk, and her adorable Pomeranian, O'rion! They were seriously one of the best parts of staying here. Couldn't have been a cooler person to talk to, so down to earth and welcoming, very informative, and we hope to see them again when we return! So with Valentines in mind...check in at 4 but they sent a text saying our room was ready at 11 or so and asked what time might we expect you? My timing was four and that's about when we arrived. It's a bit complicated but the signage was clear and there were a couple of parking spaces right by the check in office. Wow what a place Old Victorian and absolutely beautiful inside. Check in was easy and fun, we could keep our car where it was parked. There were small socializing events, a champagne pour at 5, cookies at 7...Our room was just off the parking area with no stairs to climb. We were also close to the breakfast spot. (starts at 8-10) Our room was well a large bedroom, tall queen size bed, a very large bathroom, with a Great shower (water pressure) and rainfall shower head. Three large windows gave us a good view of the bay, the window shades were thick enough to block out most of the light. The mattress was super comfortable, we slept well. We took an Uber to the old pier and had dinner, it was very quiet in town, perfect. Free breakfast always has me wondering but today this was a very nice breakfast, egg soufflé, hash browns, lots of real fresh fruit, croissants, various breads, oatmeal, various topping and cereal. Hit flavorful coffee, juices, yogurts...good stuff. The stay was pricy for the off season but sometimes ya gotta spend a few bucks too enjoy the finer things in life. Bray performed solo with just his guitar and vocals, and what impressed me most was the incredible range of music he covered. His set moved effortlessly across decades and styles--from Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Lionel Richie to David Bowie, Simple Minds, Howard Jones, The Romantics, Georgia Satellites, and more. Some of my favorites included "Folsom Prison Blues," "As the World Falls Down," "You Spin Me Round," "No One Is to Blame," "Don't You (Forget About Me)," "Sundown," and a beautiful rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon." The warm, elegant atmosphere of the hotel lobby was a perfect setting for Bray's acoustic performance. He has a wonderful ability to take familiar songs and make them his own while still preserving what made us love them in the first place. What I particularly appreciate about Bray is his versatility. Whether he is performing with a full band or standing alone with a guitar, he knows how to read a room, connect with an audience, and create an atmosphere that makes you want to stay and listen. Another thoroughly enjoyable performance. If you have an opportunity to see Bray live--or are looking for a talented, professional, and versatile musician for a venue or private event--I highly recommend him. For a hotel charging over $400 a weeknight, finding a sexually explicit photograph with a…read morehandwritten note left on a chair in the lobby is absolutely appalling. Frankly, this is the kind of thing I'd expect to encounter at a Motel 6, not a premium Monterey hotel. I brought it to the front desk because I felt someone needed to know what was being left in the lobby. The employee was shocked and said it was horrible, but there wasn't much follow-up. I returned to my husband and baby, honestly relieved that I was the one who found it rather than a child. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the staff we encountered were friendly, check-in and valet were quick, and the crib delivery was appreciated. The location itself nice, although the surprise two-elevator trip from our room to the lobby was inconvenient, especially with a stroller. I wish the layout had been clearer when booking, I didn't need an ocean view but I highly value convenience which is why I booked a Cannery Row hotel to begin with. The lobby incident is what I'll remember most. I would expect the hotel to staff to acknowledge such an atrocity a bit more. Monterey was wonderful for my first visit, and I'll absolutely return, but I'll probably be choosing a different hotel next time. Update: I brought up the incident again at checkout, and the front desk employee responded, "Oh yes, we were made aware of that." No further acknowledgment or explanation. We were then asked if we wanted to review our bill and informed that parking alone was $102. The casual response to such an inappropriate discovery in a public lobby, combined with the $400+ room rate and $102 parking fee, only reinforced my disappointment with this experience.

Hotel staff were very friendly and professional. This time we had the oceanfront room with the sofa bed. Beautiful views, of course, from the balcony. The room was clean, however there is an ant problem in the bathroom. It was not too bad, but we still weren't thrilled to see an ant here and there crawling on our things in the bathroom. It is strange that they use cloth shower curtains, so every time you take a shower they get soaked. Some toiletries are provided, but not as many as they used to. They used to give lotion, shower caps, shower gel, etc. Now it's just bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner. The bathroom is nice, though, with double sinks. Sofa bed worked out great for our 8 year old. She said it was comfortable, and we were also comfortable in the king size bed, which had a firm mattress. It can get noisy in the room with the balcony door open due to the seals and seagulls, but closing the door blocks most of the sound. We kept it open in the day and shut it when we went to bed. Breakfast - well, I guess you can't really complain too much when it's complimentary with the room, but it's really nothing to write home about. Hard boiled eggs, fruit plate, yogurt, and some muffins. Me, being a diabetic, I couldn't really eat any of it, except the eggs. Our daughter enjoyed it, though she is pretty easygoing. We had been hoping to save some money by eating breakfast at the hotel but we ended up eating breakfast out every day we were there. Be prepared to do A LOT of walking because this hotel is at the very end of Cannery Row -- although it's great exercise, and gave us a chance to work off all the calories from our meals. lol. The room was nice, we'd probably stay there again. One thing we were disappointed about was the hotel used to offer a discount if you bought aquarium tickets through them. They no longer do that. They also used to offer free bottled water in the room, which they also no longer do.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

Stores and restaurants were a close walk or drive away and parking was always available in front of the building. Having the bathroom across the hall wasn't too bad either. It was a spacious bathroom and we didn't have to share it with anyone else on the floor. Overall, we didn't really feel like we were staying in a hotel, it felt like we were staying in a home, which felt nice and more cozy. Their was a valet service to take our bags and park our car safely. While we relaxed, went to eat and have fun at the Monterrey bay aquarium for a bit... There was glasses of wine and a charcuterie Board of cheese and crackers there for guests when we came back to check in officially. The cheese was great, wish they had pepper jack. But that's just me being greedy. The room itself was lovely, cozy. And quite when needed/wanted. Especially since it was can be loud with the doors to the balcony open. The balcony of our room faced the main street (cannery row) which is perfect for us. We love people watching. Especially with a fireplace lit next to us. That was heaven, when we wanted to go to sleep. It was dead silent once we closed the doors to the balcony. No sound whatsoever from the street. Great wall mounted TV that we didn't even use. Just was happy to relax in that bed. Those pillows were very soft. The biggest surprise was the complimentary chocolates they gave us when we checked out. Not only was it unexpected. But those chocolates were amazing, absolutely to die for.

My only critique would be to just have it mentioned on Hotels.com and/or their website that way people can prepare better!! See the pic of me sitting on the edge of the all memory foam bed, with no supported siding/edges, and NO SUPPORT at all unless you are light as a feather or young. If you have back or hip issues, neck issues, or sleep with two people who literally don't want to roll into each other in the middle of the bed...these beds are torture. I had to gather blankets from the car, extra towels from the bathroom, sheets & blankets from hallway linen closets to make a pile on the floor that was better to sleep on than the bed. I toss & turn at night and get up to go to the bathroom a few times, I couldn't even get to sleep due to the slope issues. Trying to turn over the mattress would bounce up to meet my body, making turning over a huge chore. While the floor was obviously too firm, it wax far better than the bed. When we told the owner, she literally didn't bat an eye and quickly recited how everyone loves the beds & they have a list of guests to send the bed info to...it was so quick a response, with NO "I'm so sorry you had to do that" that it felt like she has heard this before and this is her pat answer. For people in the hospitality business for years, this was not an adequate response. So many of my friends said how they could've sleep in a soft bed - - so, this review is for those of you who need a SUPPORTIVE or firm bed, you will need to go elsewhere as all the rooms have the same mattresses. If I had seen a review like mine, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere - even though the themed layout was right up my alley. Between my husband being a bigger guy and us in our 60s/70s with various normal aches & pains, this mattress was a huge detriment and you just need to take it into consideration before you book. We are retired and travel 4-5 months a year around the world and I have NEVER encountered a bed like this (and they are new!!). Just feedback about the bed as the Inn is pretty and breakfast good. Was just disappointed telling them about sleeping on the floor was taken so nonchalantly.
