Do not judge a hotel by its cover. At first glance this place isn't that inviting, but once you get in and you're greeted by the friendly staff, your perspective suddenly changes. This was a quick weekend getaway trip for my wife, and we had booked a room with a Ocean view, but our first room view was obstructed and after a quick call we were upgrade to a full ocean view room. Our room was awesome! Very spacious with a large bathroom and huge outdoor patio. The patio offer almost a full 180' view of the ocean and parts of DT Monterey. The hotel was pretty full based on the parking lot, but we never heard a peep from anyone. Did I mention that sea otters were hanging out in the ocean in front of our patio?! This is a great hotel option for a Monterey visit. Close to Downtown, walkable to Cannery Row, and tons of food options nearby.

For the price point I expected something more grand. The rooms were a bit outdated in terms of wallpaper and bedding, amenities etc. Rooms were very clean and the service was great don't get me wrong. The location was very convenient and allows you to walk everywhere. The breakfast was decent and they bring it to you at the timestamp you want it too - which is a unique feature. It's not the hotel's fault but more so the clients that come here.... We had the unfortunate experience of staying in a harbor bay view room (upgraded pricing) and had to be subjected to the people below us smoking weed for hours at late night. We brought this up to the front desk as there's a 0 smoking policy but the people they were never kicked out. I woke up to another session of them smoking at 8am. The front desk asked us if we wanted to move rooms instead of kicking the people or enforcing policy. Hopefully something happened to them because you do have to sign a damages waiver for smoking or leaving a pet on the balcony. For this hotel, I wouldn't see myself booking it again with the people ruining the romantic experience and the street is quite noisy with revving cars blasting bassy music daily. Last thing I want to mention is that the ceiling walls are so thin you can hear your neighbor above walk around -- it's pretty loud. It killed the vibe in my opinion.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The location is perfect for a nice little get away. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

    Beautiful view

The staff here is the best anywhere. The view from your private balcony if you have an Ocean front room is wonderful. This was far from as good as previous stays. No hand soap in the bathroom, only two towels. Things are getting kind of shabby here. No binoculars in the room like previous stays. The table was really dirty. There were handprints on the light switches. I don't mind things wearing out, but I would have liked a heads up that there were no binoculars. I could've brought my own. I would've liked a few more towels and some hand soap. It won't stop us from coming here because there's nothing like waking up in the early morning and watching the otters swim below. We are assuming that they won't be doing any upgrades and will either be selling or maybe it's going to close due to wear. We are so fortunate to be able to stay here a few days every other year or so.

This is beautifully located at the beginning of Cannery Row. Convenient parking, easy check in, very accommodating staff. We were welcomed by the friendliest young lady with long blonde hair and friendly smile. She was warm, inviting, and had great recommendations for our stay. A bottle of Chardonnay and decadent chocolates were delivered to the room upon arrival. Such a romantic treat. The room was so spacious with the best view. Bathroom also spacious and everything spotless. We made time to enjoy both hot tubs and the fire pit. Breakfast was delivered to the room as well. Yummy fresh cut fruit, yogurt, baked goods, o.j., coffee. Our stay was short but so worth it!! The young lady who checked us out was also extremely kind and informative. *Definitely recommend upgrading to a room with a view. There was so much wildlife to see.

Scratched and worn picture frames? Again a really inexpensive and easy fix.

Great location, with really nice views of the beach from your room. However, the facilities in the hotel are dated and in some cases in need of repair. Bed was firm and comfortable. We did have to call maintenance to address an issue with the mini-fridge. Maintenance person came quickly and was professional and courteous. Attaching some pictures to show dated state of some areas of the hotel. Not pictured is the worn-out hallway carpet (My dad worked in flooring for decades, so I am trained to look at any carpet or flooring immediately) Considering the state of the facility, I did not consider it a good value for the rate charged and would not stay there again.

Everything went beyond well! Started with the welcome at the front desk to checkout. The room was fantastic and the view very good. Worth every penny.

It's beautiful and quiet just wish for the price that they would have provided a microwave. Overall it was clean and very relaxing environment.

We stayed here for 3 nights, in a Harbor/Ocean view room with a private balcony (Room 206) and found the room comfortable and the accommodations slightly above average. The room was very nice and king-sized bed was comfy. There was a mini-fridge (appreciated!) and 2 hot tubs to utilize. Because we were traveling with a child, we took advantage of the rooftop hot tub first thing each morning and enjoyed the ocean view under the crisp, gray cloud cover. Our kid found it magical and a ton of fun! It's within walking distance to Cannery Row, the Marina, and the Warf. There is also a small beach right next door with mild waves and soft sand--perfect for families with young kids. Some things to mention, though, as you consider this hotel.... Continental breakfast was provided as room service based on a cards you filled out each evening. It was not buffet style, which I didn't love, because we were given items we wouldn't eat--like certain kinds of fruit, flavors of yogurt, and types of pastries. I prefer being able to see my options and take what I want rather than hope for items we will like and not waste. The room provides a tea maker.... but no tea bags. And the k-cups for the coffee maker were all French roast. Yuck. French roast is burnt coffee. Our room was one of 2 on the harbor view side that had a partial wall on the balcony instead of a full see-through railing as show in the pictures. That sucked and made the balcony feel smaller and limited the view. Room 406 also has this issue, so be aware. We have a child, so I get why they may have put us there, but I would have preferred a full see-through balcony and my child is old enough to be safe. There is a city fountain that runs all day right across from the harbor view rooms. Many might like it! We wished we could have heard the ocean waves, instead. It does shut off, though, each evening at 9:30 PM. Finally, the walls and floors are pretty thin. We were woken early each morning (3 AM and 5 AM) by the folks above us walking and banging around, by cars coming and going, and the planes coming in to land at the airport. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Rooms 201-205 seemed be blocked by some large bushes and trees across the street. We got lucky and our balcony just missed them. If you want a view, ask for a higher floor or rooms 206 and higher.

View from our balcony. Fisherman's Wharf is off to the right.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Gorgeous views of the water and next to a fantastic paved walking trail. We were able to leave our car parked in the covered garage and walk down to the wharf. Our room was very clean with a huge bathroom. The breakfast is very simple but we always ate a bigger lunch and late dinner anyway. I only removed one star because the bed was super firm although having a pillow menu helped, so the second night was not too bad. We will definitely stay here again and will recommend to any friends/family if they travel to Monterey.

    Torn chair in the room.
    Toby S.

The staff members were very welcoming and professional. Probably would not stay again based on the up keep. Can improve by reupholstering the chair. Seems like a small expense considering the cost to stay here.

We had a fantastic stay here with our toddler during a drizzly weekend when we visited the aquarium. Honestly my favorite part was the bathroom, which had spacious double sinks and a large bathtub. The toilet had its own door. Breakfast was standard and rather unimpressive given the price range of this hotel - coffee or juice or milk, fruit, optional yogurt, muffins or croissants. The bed was comfortable and the room was equipped with a fridge but no microwave as well as a single Keurig maker. The TV allowed you to stream from your phone but had some connectivity issues that made using that feature a pain. The views made up for its shortcomings, with a serene balcony that overlooked the beautiful Monterey bay. We had a lovely breakfast out there one morning and generally enjoyed looking out there, even when it was raining. I would stay here again!

Amazing room and perfectly located in the middle of everything. We traveled with our two year old and didn't have any issues. The complimentary breakfast each morning was an added bonus.

Blackout shades and see-through shades for double coverage which keeps the room nice and dark at night. 3.) Location is great as it's super close to Cannery Row, lots of restaurants, and Monterey Bay Aquarium which was our ultimate destination. 4.) Parking Garage is free and decently sized and can fit a mid-size SUV with no issues. It will get tighter if you have a humongous full-SUV though (see pictures). [[ Con's ]] 1.) So Many STAIRS. Like legitimately, there are so many stairs. I took a ton of pictures to give you an idea. We only tried breakfast at the restaurant but it was great. The serving sizes were huge. Definitely could have split one plate between 2 people. Even the kids meal was a large portion size. I will say however, that this is not the most accessible hotel if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The lobby has an accessible lift (the entrance is at the bottom of a small staircase), but we didnt know this when first walking over. So I spent a few minutes walking around the property trying to look for a way to get my stroller and 2 kids up to the front desk. The lift is also pretty narrow. I have a tandem double stroller so I was able to fit, but I dont think I would have been able to use the lift if I had a side by side double stroller. The only other way to get up to the lobby is to go through one of the elevators in the parking garage. But if you didn't park in the garage, then you'd have to walk your stroller (or move your wheelchair) into the parking garage and then use the correct elevator to get to the main lobby. Having small kids, this was just more inconvenient than anything. Not the hotel's fault, but just not a great fit for us at this time. I am grateful that they have multiple elevators throughout the parking garage so that you dont have to walk all the way across the property to use the elevator. The hotel was also recently renovated, but the attention to detail just wasnt there. One of the towel hooks in our bathroom was hanging off our wall, the light in the hallway was crooked and was very wobbly, and there was a panel that was supposed to covering the wires from the phone that was kinda just hanging loosely. Not a big deal for us, but just things that we noticed that could've used some work. Overall, not a bad hotel, but the stroller accessibility was just not a great fit for us as a family with young kids.

An update: shortly after posting my initial review, staff called back to say that they found the…read morekindle. (WOW. A miracle... So either housekeeping was being dishonest about finding it originally, or they're being dishonest about changing the bedding between guests.) And now, after nearly a month of waiting, calling, and emailing, the kindle was FINALLY mailed. My initial review still stands. What an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. Booked one night (using points) at this property and really wish we hadn't. Was charged a mystery $50 fee at check in. Then at checkout we asked what it was for, the guy working the front desk didn't have a clue and he tried to say he'd fix it "when the computers were working again." When we called his bluff by saying we'd come back in an hour, it was magically fixed. Shady! The room itself was meh... the floors were strangely sloped/didn't feel level. The real kicker here: there was no bedside table on my side of the bed (an inconvenience in itself), so my kindle was placed on the bed with me. I unfortunately forgot my kindle on the bed and didn't realize until we had checked out and were hours away. We called the hotel and were told they didn't find anything in the room. I know for a fact it was left in that room (I've double triple quadruple checked my luggage and there's no where else it could possibly be). Again, SHADY.

We had such a wonderful stay at Hotel Del Monte in Monterrey! From the moment we arrived, the staff…read moremade us feel welcomed and taken care of. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

We stayed for a weekend wedding and got one of their queen suites. Pulling up to the building, we…read morewere both pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it was. The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
