My second time staying here. I love this lodge! I love that you can check in really late with no issue. The rooms are clean, staff is friendly. I love love love the location! It is affordable and there is plenty of parking. The area is safe. They are across the street from El Estero park and the beach. You can hear the waves at night. The bed was oh so comfortable! I will be back!

This is not the fanciest hotel, but it has a great location and affordable for us during our stay in Monterey. Our room was clean, quiet, and convenient. We had a little private patio, but we didn't use it during our stay. Bed and pillows were comfortable, and the fireplace was a nice touch. Microwave and fridge were nice to have. Tons of hot water and good water pressure in the bathroom. No weird smells or anything. AC/heating unit worked well and was nice to have a ceiling fan in the room to circulate the air. Parking near the aquarium can cost $40-$70. It might be worth taking an Uber there and back and it's located about 10 minutes from the lodge. There is a new Poké bowl spot steps away and we had that for dinner on our first night. Gas station convenience store was a plus as you could get anything you needed at most hours. I didn't use the pool or need anything from the vending machines, but it's always nice to have those All in all, a pleasant 2 night stay. Again, not the fanciest or most updated hotel, but it was clean, affordable, and super convenient. If I'm in the area again, I wouldn't mind staying here.

ECONOMICAL & COMFY! I absolutely love the Monterey Bay Lodge, it's near several public parks and a few blocks away from the ocean! It's one of Monterey's brightest lodging offerings and great for quiet nights! The beds are VERY cozy, I didn't want to leave my room! Each room comes with a coffee maker and rich hot chocolate. The Monterey Bay Lodge has a courtyard with lights, a pool & jacuzzi, and green lawn to relax. The pool is protected by a gate which requires a key to access it. The courtyard was lovely and a breath of fresh air after a long day's drive. The Lodge also has a guest computer in the main office. My minor concerns included the showers in the rooms being very tight, it made it hard to shower. It wasn't awful but it was definitely challenging. The staff could be a bit friendlier, the front desk lady with the Indian accent was a bit too rough and not very professional. She didn't give a warm welcome and her information was limited. Parking was easy, the lot is accessible to the rooms and I felt our vehicle was safe at all times. A gas station is nearby if you get the munchies or need to fuel up for the day. Most importantly, the Lodge is CLEAN! Everything smells fresh and the staff regularly change the linens! I observed the staff cleaning and every pillow, blanket, and cover was bright white, no stains here. It was perfect!

Stayed 3 nights, Sun. - Wed. Recommended by our Son who stayed here in March and really liked it. Wish we would have been informed about the parking lot paving that had us parking on the street and woke us up daily at 7am and was loud all day. Besides that this is a nice boutique style hotel. We had a king bed w/ fireplace. If they we were allowed to park in parking lot we had a designated spot at our room. The pool, hot tub and courtyard is very nice. Other reviewers mentioned no breakfast or aircon. We had a cooler in our room & a fan. Rarely is it hot in Monterey. Opening the front door & sliding glass door does the trick. The rates are very good for the coast so I am fine with no breakfast. There is a fridge & microwave. We walked to cannery row & the aquarium (2 miles). We walked around the el Estero Lake next door. A great spot. Looking forward to staying again but I will call ahead to make sure I can enjoy all the amenities on property.

Cute little motel! We loved the center area with fire pits and seating, and the pool was nice. The bistro lights outside were also very cute! As for the room, it was pretty good considering the fact it's an older property. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, and decor was nice (if not simple). We got a king bed with the fireplace, and we probably won't get the same room again--the fireplace was a nice touch, but not for the price tag! The location was the best part. In front of the lake, an 8 minute drive to old fisherman's wharf, and only one road separating us from the beach--it's hard to beat. We'll probably stay here again just for the convenience!

The service, staff and stay was great! The heated pool and spa was the best touch to the whole stay and El Estero lake and the entry to a beach is within walking distance. I will definitely be back.

Very cute & relaxing lodge. Staff was very friendly, helpful & accommodating even when we decided to stay an extra day to keep us in the same room. Kings Room was clean and very convenient with parking right in front of our room. Loved the sliding door out to the courtyard seating area with the pool just a few feet away. At night the courtyard is so relaxing to sit out there with the fire pit & just chit chat & take in the area with all the lovely plants flowers trees. The lodge is across from a lake & park. Across from the beach and like a 10/15 min walk along the beach to the wharf. About a 10/ 15 min drive to the aquarium. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Booked 2 nights here with my kids for a trip to the Aquarium and kick of to a longer road trip. We arrived a bit before check in and the front desk lady quickly checked if our room was ready and let us check in a little early. She was friendly and helpful and after a 5 hour drive that little grace was very welcome! Our room was clean and spacious with a mini fridge, microwave and small Mr. Coffee machine. I appreciated having actual coffee cups instead of just paper! Having a door or window in a hotel that opens is always nice. We had 2 windows that open and a sliding door with a shared balcony that overlooked the pool. The location was perfect, super close to the Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, and an easy hop to Trader Joe's for the couple of things we needed. Beds were cozy too! Only complaint was that our room was IN BETWEEN a large family/group(?) and they kept running back and forth between the 2 rooms shouting and shreiking and slamming the slider over and over. Not the end of the world, and we'd stay again without a doubt, but, poor planning on someone's part!

It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. Toddler Notes for the Hotel: [[ Pro's ]] 1.) The room we got on the 3rd floor corner was very spacious and had a ton of room. We were able to set up a pack and play and still had a generous amount of room left to walk around. 2.) Blackout shades and see-through shades for double coverage which keeps the room nice and dark at night. 3.) Location is great as it's super close to Cannery Row, lots of restaurants, and Monterey Bay Aquarium which was our ultimate destination. 4.) Parking Garage is free and decently sized and can fit a mid-size SUV with no issues. It will get tighter if you have a humongous full-SUV though (see pictures). [[ Con's ]] 1.) So Many STAIRS. Like legitimately, there are so many stairs. I took a ton of pictures to give you an idea. Stairs coming down from the elevator, stairs between floors, etc. This is not very young kid friendly when you have a stroller, a bunch of kid items, etc. I'm not sure I would stay here again due to the amount of stairs and inconvenience. 2.) Noise Level - If your kid is sensitive to noise, be prepared to have a ton of sound machines because you really could hear a ton of things. Cars, honking, other people's rooms, etc. 3.) Shower - It did seem a bit rusty in certain places and our shower wouldn't drain so there was a big puddle the whole time we were showering. The steam also set off the fire alarm like another person mentioned. Quick conclusion - I think it's an okay IHG hotel but not very good for families with young kids. Good for the location though.

We only tried breakfast at the restaurant but it was great. The serving sizes were huge. Definitely could have split one plate between 2 people. Even the kids meal was a large portion size. I will say however, that this is not the most accessible hotel if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The lobby has an accessible lift (the entrance is at the bottom of a small staircase), but we didnt know this when first walking over. So I spent a few minutes walking around the property trying to look for a way to get my stroller and 2 kids up to the front desk. The lift is also pretty narrow. I have a tandem double stroller so I was able to fit, but I dont think I would have been able to use the lift if I had a side by side double stroller. The only other way to get up to the lobby is to go through one of the elevators in the parking garage. But if you didn't park in the garage, then you'd have to walk your stroller (or move your wheelchair) into the parking garage and then use the correct elevator to get to the main lobby. Having small kids, this was just more inconvenient than anything. Not the hotel's fault, but just not a great fit for us at this time. I am grateful that they have multiple elevators throughout the parking garage so that you dont have to walk all the way across the property to use the elevator. The hotel was also recently renovated, but the attention to detail just wasnt there. One of the towel hooks in our bathroom was hanging off our wall, the light in the hallway was crooked and was very wobbly, and there was a panel that was supposed to covering the wires from the phone that was kinda just hanging loosely. Not a big deal for us, but just things that we noticed that could've used some work. Overall, not a bad hotel, but the stroller accessibility was just not a great fit for us as a family with young kids.

So either housekeeping was being dishonest about finding it originally, or they're being dishonest about changing the bedding between guests.) And now, after nearly a month of waiting, calling, and emailing, the kindle was FINALLY mailed. My initial review still stands. What an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. Booked one night (using points) at this property and really wish we hadn't. Was charged a mystery $50 fee at check in. Then at checkout we asked what it was for, the guy working the front desk didn't have a clue and he tried to say he'd fix it "when the computers were working again." When we called his bluff by saying we'd come back in an hour, it was magically fixed. Shady! The room itself was meh... the floors were strangely sloped/didn't feel level. The real kicker here: there was no bedside table on my side of the bed (an inconvenience in itself), so my kindle was placed on the bed with me. I unfortunately forgot my kindle on the bed and didn't realize until we had checked out and were hours away. We called the hotel and were told they didn't find anything in the room. I know for a fact it was left in that room (I've double triple quadruple checked my luggage and there's no where else it could possibly be). Again, SHADY.

One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
