Foam Street entrance
Mike C.

When I searched for a place for my extended weekend visit, several friends named places in Seaside and the surrounding area for lodging. In thinking about my schedule and likely points of interest, I figured that living in town would be more convenient. In searching Travelocity, this place came up with a 3+ Yelp rating so I read a few reviews to get a feel of why some reviews described it as just average. When I arrived on a Thursday late afternoon, I pulled in from the Foam Street entrance (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=144&select=x_TiU-XsTrAtzR5hyftdjA) and found a parking space straight ahead. I walked to the reception room and checked in, getting two room keys and learning the elevator is key card activated whether going up or down. I filled out a form describing my vehicle and was given a card with my room # and stay dates to validate my daily parking there for $17 per day. I was given a white paper goodie bag (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=HNeAL2Jy9R3weEKnnFtvHw) that I shared with my friends who joined me a couple days later. I went to my car and left this card on my dashboard and grabbed my luggage to bring to my room. I liked that I needed to use my key card whether coming or going to use the elevator. When I opened the door, I found the room layout (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=qsbBQ6wDtRjYpxkqIBTnrQ) comforting and practical. The size of the room made this family friendly. The restroom is spacious and, given the climate here, it was nice being able to open the room and bathroom windows for natural ventilation. There are 2nd floor fireplaces (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=ZisWZJSaiNeHKg6R2sLTcg), more impressive in the evening when they are lit (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=t-aktsle5qJL4q9skF1JIQ). I noticed the hotel sold S'mores kits (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=GVj4M6OLY2IYDLBnbl4cZQ) in case you want to enjoy the fire pits. I stayed for three nights getting a good sleep nightly. Thank you, Jenn, for your hospitality and helpful tips from telling me about the sea lions, the dining options within the block, and directions to and advice on places that I wanted visit. I would stay here again when I'm ready for another trip to the area.

Hotel was clean & spacious. When we walked in it had a slight musky smell, but a crack of the window aired it out. Close to everything & the night time bars

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION This cute inn is walking distance to everything Monterey. This is important because you don't want to have to drive and park in Monterey. We walked to the aquarium, to Cannery row, down to the Coast Guard pier and we could've even walked to Pacific Grove. Staff: John was the best. Not just at this place but the best of all the hotels we stayed at everywhere. There was a female I spoke to on the phone & she was great too but we only had live interaction with John both days. From My notes: Parking $17 underground. No on-site restaurant, laundry or hot coffee, as there is no "lobby". Only 1 elevator. Take the stairs. Use the outdoor fireplaces to chill. Bring earplugs. Lots of street noise. The Wave Suite we stayed in was a 2-room suite directly above the front desk. You walk into the first room which had 2-Queen beds, then you walk thru a doorway which has a living room (sofa bed and seats) attached to the bathroom. The doorway had no door so you don't have much privacy between the rooms. My husband had to do a bunch of zoom calls while we were sleeping, so it would've been nice to have a door. I believe the "family suite" has a door between the two rooms so if you need privacy, that would be a better choice.

I loved it here! It was a walk to the Monterey aquarium. The location is so convenient. It's also across the street from a rite aid. The staff here was so welcoming and sweet. The room was spacious and clean. The parking was perfect as well it's so nice to be able to leave your car and just walk everywhere you need to go. I would stay here again.

This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. Toddler Notes for the Hotel: [[ Pro's ]] 1.) The room we got on the 3rd floor corner was very spacious and had a ton of room. We were able to set up a pack and play and still had a generous amount of room left to walk around. 2.) Blackout shades and see-through shades for double coverage which keeps the room nice and dark at night. 3.) Location is great as it's super close to Cannery Row, lots of restaurants, and Monterey Bay Aquarium which was our ultimate destination. 4.) Parking Garage is free and decently sized and can fit a mid-size SUV with no issues. It will get tighter if you have a humongous full-SUV though (see pictures). [[ Con's ]] 1.) So Many STAIRS. Like legitimately, there are so many stairs. I took a ton of pictures to give you an idea. Stairs coming down from the elevator, stairs between floors, etc. This is not very young kid friendly when you have a stroller, a bunch of kid items, etc. I'm not sure I would stay here again due to the amount of stairs and inconvenience. 2.) Noise Level - If your kid is sensitive to noise, be prepared to have a ton of sound machines because you really could hear a ton of things. Cars, honking, other people's rooms, etc. 3.) Shower - It did seem a bit rusty in certain places and our shower wouldn't drain so there was a big puddle the whole time we were showering. The steam also set off the fire alarm like another person mentioned. Quick conclusion - I think it's an okay IHG hotel but not very good for families with young kids. Good for the location though.

I would definitely stay here again if I wasn't looking to splurge and just wanted a room for the night.

We were able to go to the pier every day we were in Monterey to enjoy looking at the boats and the animals. We only tried breakfast at the restaurant but it was great. The serving sizes were huge. Definitely could have split one plate between 2 people. Even the kids meal was a large portion size. I will say however, that this is not the most accessible hotel if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The lobby has an accessible lift (the entrance is at the bottom of a small staircase), but we didnt know this when first walking over. So I spent a few minutes walking around the property trying to look for a way to get my stroller and 2 kids up to the front desk. The lift is also pretty narrow. I have a tandem double stroller so I was able to fit, but I dont think I would have been able to use the lift if I had a side by side double stroller. The only other way to get up to the lobby is to go through one of the elevators in the parking garage. But if you didn't park in the garage, then you'd have to walk your stroller (or move your wheelchair) into the parking garage and then use the correct elevator to get to the main lobby. Having small kids, this was just more inconvenient than anything. Not the hotel's fault, but just not a great fit for us at this time. I am grateful that they have multiple elevators throughout the parking garage so that you dont have to walk all the way across the property to use the elevator. The hotel was also recently renovated, but the attention to detail just wasnt there. One of the towel hooks in our bathroom was hanging off our wall, the light in the hallway was crooked and was very wobbly, and there was a panel that was supposed to covering the wires from the phone that was kinda just hanging loosely. Not a big deal for us, but just things that we noticed that could've used some work. Overall, not a bad hotel, but the stroller accessibility was just not a great fit for us as a family with young kids.

So either housekeeping was being dishonest about finding it originally, or they're being dishonest about changing the bedding between guests.) And now, after nearly a month of waiting, calling, and emailing, the kindle was FINALLY mailed. My initial review still stands. What an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. Booked one night (using points) at this property and really wish we hadn't. Was charged a mystery $50 fee at check in. Then at checkout we asked what it was for, the guy working the front desk didn't have a clue and he tried to say he'd fix it "when the computers were working again." When we called his bluff by saying we'd come back in an hour, it was magically fixed. Shady! The room itself was meh... the floors were strangely sloped/didn't feel level. The real kicker here: there was no bedside table on my side of the bed (an inconvenience in itself), so my kindle was placed on the bed with me. I unfortunately forgot my kindle on the bed and didn't realize until we had checked out and were hours away. We called the hotel and were told they didn't find anything in the room. I know for a fact it was left in that room (I've double triple quadruple checked my luggage and there's no where else it could possibly be). Again, SHADY.

One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am.
