Pool heated, Monterey

Great spot affordable and clean. The staff were amazing and very helpful. My Kids loved the pool and the room was spacious and clean. Refrigerator and microwave were great. We will go back soon.

Staff is so friendly, helpful and professional. This my second time staying here. I will continue to come back. The hotel is near the freeway, restaurants, Costco gas and a Safeway.

The backed tub that we were supposed to tolerate and also the reason we got charged and extra charge to move to another room. Wrong!

This place is awful! I reserved 3 rooms, spent 2k for these. We checked into 1 and the bathtub didn't drain. They told it does within 30 min. Disgusting. So then they gave us a different room and charged $100 more. Literally got no sleep last night. It sounds like a flipping zoo all night!!! . Seriously a party or escort service above us!!! Constant stomping, people coming and going, people hanging outside in running cars and cars periodically honking a set amount of times intermittently. I will not and cannot stay another night. Unfortunately the rest of our party will stay and we will be finding another hotel to stay in for the rest of our visit.

Vending machine/ ice machine

Instant check-in (in and out of the front office within a minute), dedicated parking lot, indoor pool area attached to a small recreation space with a vending machine, ice machine, and a few tables/seating inside (room key required to enter this area). The room clean and modern, with a fridge, microwave, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, wooden flooring, updated bathroom, bathroom amenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion), temperature control unit, flat screen TV, outlets near the bedsides, comfy bedding, and pretty much anything and everything you would need for a pleasant stay, at an affordable price.

The MARTINPORTS!

This review comes with happy tears in my eyes. Our family stayed at the motel during a music festival. Our youngest had his very special Pterodactyl with him, that he really can't sleep without. Pterodactyl somehow got left at the hotel and we didn't realize until we had driven the 4 1/2 hours home. We thought we had lost Teri the pterodactyl for good. .... Then comes the hero to this post, MENFIS, the motel manager! She tracked down Teri, and mailed him home, WITH NEW FRIENDS. She went above and beyond and I cannot thank her enough!! The motel was clean, convenient, etc. but the real star of the place is MENFIS! Thank you

Zero stars should be an option. We typically stay at Stagecoach Inn in Monterey but with rising prices I decided on El Castell Motel to save money. This was a mistake. Upon checkin we were asked if we had any pets which we didn't. But then they reiterated that pets were not allowed. So either they didn't believe us or didn't remember what they had just asked. When we got inside our room at first it seemed ok. But then we looked around more and kept finding issues. First off the cleanliness... smudge marks on the light fixtures and the thermostat. Dust build up on the bathroom lights and the towel storage area. Bed felt like an air mattress and was super uncomfortable. They provided us with very minimal towels so that seemed inconvenient. Next time we come to Monterey we will just pay the exta $100 a night to get better accommodations. A Best Western or Motel 6 would have been the better bet at this price point.

This is a good little motel, they have updated the rooms, but it still looks dated outside. But it is a clean and comfy place to stay.

Good location for me but seemed a little sketchy. Lots of trash on the backside. Can't get any closer to the fairgrounds that is for sure!

Bray performed solo with just his guitar and vocals, and what impressed me most was the incredible range of music he covered. His set moved effortlessly across decades and styles--from Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Lionel Richie to David Bowie, Simple Minds, Howard Jones, The Romantics, Georgia Satellites, and more. Some of my favorites included "Folsom Prison Blues," "As the World Falls Down," "You Spin Me Round," "No One Is to Blame," "Don't You (Forget About Me)," "Sundown," and a beautiful rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon." The warm, elegant atmosphere of the hotel lobby was a perfect setting for Bray's acoustic performance. He has a wonderful ability to take familiar songs and make them his own while still preserving what made us love them in the first place. What I particularly appreciate about Bray is his versatility. Whether he is performing with a full band or standing alone with a guitar, he knows how to read a room, connect with an audience, and create an atmosphere that makes you want to stay and listen. Another thoroughly enjoyable performance. If you have an opportunity to see Bray live--or are looking for a talented, professional, and versatile musician for a venue or private event--I highly recommend him. Looking forward to the next one! https://www.facebook.com/braygurnari

Frankly, this is the kind of thing I'd expect to encounter at a Motel 6, not a premium Monterey hotel. I brought it to the front desk because I felt someone needed to know what was being left in the lobby. The employee was shocked and said it was horrible, but there wasn't much follow-up. I returned to my husband and baby, honestly relieved that I was the one who found it rather than a child. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the staff we encountered were friendly, check-in and valet were quick, and the crib delivery was appreciated. The location itself nice, although the surprise two-elevator trip from our room to the lobby was inconvenient, especially with a stroller. I wish the layout had been clearer when booking, I didn't need an ocean view but I highly value convenience which is why I booked a Cannery Row hotel to begin with. The lobby incident is what I'll remember most. I would expect the hotel to staff to acknowledge such an atrocity a bit more. Monterey was wonderful for my first visit, and I'll absolutely return, but I'll probably be choosing a different hotel next time. Update: I brought up the incident again at checkout, and the front desk employee responded, "Oh yes, we were made aware of that." No further acknowledgment or explanation. We were then asked if we wanted to review our bill and informed that parking alone was $102. The casual response to such an inappropriate discovery in a public lobby, combined with the $400+ room rate and $102 parking fee, only reinforced my disappointment with this experience.

Hotel staff were very friendly and professional. This time we had the oceanfront room with the sofa bed. Beautiful views, of course, from the balcony. The room was clean, however there is an ant problem in the bathroom. It was not too bad, but we still weren't thrilled to see an ant here and there crawling on our things in the bathroom. It is strange that they use cloth shower curtains, so every time you take a shower they get soaked. Some toiletries are provided, but not as many as they used to. They used to give lotion, shower caps, shower gel, etc. Now it's just bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner. The bathroom is nice, though, with double sinks. Sofa bed worked out great for our 8 year old. She said it was comfortable, and we were also comfortable in the king size bed, which had a firm mattress. It can get noisy in the room with the balcony door open due to the seals and seagulls, but closing the door blocks most of the sound. We kept it open in the day and shut it when we went to bed. Breakfast - well, I guess you can't really complain too much when it's complimentary with the room, but it's really nothing to write home about. Hard boiled eggs, fruit plate, yogurt, and some muffins. Me, being a diabetic, I couldn't really eat any of it, except the eggs. Our daughter enjoyed it, though she is pretty easygoing. We had been hoping to save some money by eating breakfast at the hotel but we ended up eating breakfast out every day we were there. Be prepared to do A LOT of walking because this hotel is at the very end of Cannery Row -- although it's great exercise, and gave us a chance to work off all the calories from our meals. lol. The room was nice, we'd probably stay there again. One thing we were disappointed about was the hotel used to offer a discount if you bought aquarium tickets through them. They no longer do that. They also used to offer free bottled water in the room, which they also no longer do.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. The location was good, grounds lovely, house whimsical & fun, breakfasts yummy...but all that is for naught if you can't sleep at night. See the pic of me sitting on the edge of the all memory foam bed, with no supported siding/edges, and NO SUPPORT at all unless you are light as a feather or young. If you have back or hip issues, neck issues, or sleep with two people who literally don't want to roll into each other in the middle of the bed...these beds are torture. I had to gather blankets from the car, extra towels from the bathroom, sheets & blankets from hallway linen closets to make a pile on the floor that was better to sleep on than the bed. I toss & turn at night and get up to go to the bathroom a few times, I couldn't even get to sleep due to the slope issues. Trying to turn over the mattress would bounce up to meet my body, making turning over a huge chore. While the floor was obviously too firm, it wax far better than the bed. When we told the owner, she literally didn't bat an eye and quickly recited how everyone loves the beds & they have a list of guests to send the bed info to...it was so quick a response, with NO "I'm so sorry you had to do that" that it felt like she has heard this before and this is her pat answer. For people in the hospitality business for years, this was not an adequate response. So many of my friends said how they could've sleep in a soft bed - - so, this review is for those of you who need a SUPPORTIVE or firm bed, you will need to go elsewhere as all the rooms have the same mattresses. If I had seen a review like mine, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere - even though the themed layout was right up my alley. Between my husband being a bigger guy and us in our 60s/70s with various normal aches & pains, this mattress was a huge detriment and you just need to take it into consideration before you book. We are retired and travel 4-5 months a year around the world and I have NEVER encountered a bed like this (and they are new!!). Just feedback about the bed as the Inn is pretty and breakfast good. Was just disappointed telling them about sleeping on the floor was taken so nonchalantly.
