Do not stay here. Very poor customer service and management. This property was without power and electricity when we arrived after a 3 hour drive. They told us we wouldn't be able to check in until night time. We weren't able to have the service we paid for and the staff and manager were not willing to work with us to provide us a refund. They even lied at the booking agency saying they were never without power. They seemed like they were scammers. I would never book this hotel again. read more

Exceptionally clean, (super important) comfortable beds, great shower & towels, excellent WiFi, microwave and fridge is such an added bonus, and its well maintained rooms & exterior. I like the fact my car is parked right outside my room so no more lugging suitcases. I've stayed here several times and will continue to do so. Management is very accommodating which I definitely appreciate. So convenient to everything that Monterey has to offer! Walking distance (literally across the road) to Del Monte Shopping Center, Whole Foods, and the movie theatre. Especially enjoy that it's only an 8 minute drive to Carmel! This hotel is what it says it is - small, unassuming, basic. Fine for a 1-2 night stay if you aren't planning on spending much time in the room! They have a nice little water feature in the front where you can sit and read. The owners are available at all times and are very friendly. Room is pretty basic but as other reviewers notate: Extremely clean. Small table with 2 chairs, bed, a rack for clothes and a good sized bathroom. Bed is comfortable, sheets are a bit thin so I would ask for some extra blankets before you head to bed. The AC unit has a running fan option which is great for light sleepers for white noise. :) At the time of writing, no breakfast was offered. read more

We visited a couple of weeks ago... we were worried about the sanitation process during this pandemic. I feel confident that they did take every precaution possible during the cleaning of the units. GO ELSE WHERE! We arrived at 4pm (after checkin time was available) AND no one was at the counter so I rang the bell for someone to come to the counter to check us in. We were greeted by a woman who didn't even say hi and was rude. She looked half asleep. I don't even think McDonalds would have hired her. OUR ROOM WAS NOT READY AND RUSHING TO GET CLEANED. I had to ask for my receipt. A man (probably her husband) came into the room as we were checking in and the lady and man started speaking in another language in front of us. Hello?! I didn't know it was courteous to speak a different language in front of paying customers who had just shown they weren't happy their room was not ready. I expressed to the man it wasn't acceptable our room wasn't ready as we were checking in hours AFTER checkin time. We were tired after driving 6 hours and this isn't what we wanted nor expected. I told the man that I would be making a truthful review on Yelp about how our service was so far (not good) and his response was, "everyone gets bad reviews. You're already getting the room at a discounted rate." They never discounted our room. We paid the amount given to us at our initial online booking days prior. Even if we did get a discounted rate like he said, does it give them as a business owners to treat people with disrespect? These two people DONT take pride in their business. HOWEVER they WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY WITH NO HESITATION. We entered our room to find a towel that appeared to have dried semen on it. Was this part of our discounted rate that we weren't aware of? I was disgusted to even touch it and furious as we just had to wait for our room to be cleaned with dried semen towels on top of interacting TWO RUDE PEOPLE RUNNING THEIR BUSINESS. I took the towel with dried semen to the front desk and showed the man and his response was "oh, let me get you a new towel." The beds weren't very comfortable and the remote felt sticky. There was small residue of mold in the shower. I think these two people live in the back of hotel and just care about taking money. If you stay here expect nothing better than if you slept in your car. No breakfast is offered. There is a blow dryer in the room and a coffee machine with one coffee packet. I'd be hesitant to use their coffee machine. Who knows what's been in it or if it's ever been cleaned. My conclusion is that these two people should know you don't speak a different language in front of English speaking customers if they're going to run a business to an English speaking customer. The lady needs to walk over to 7 Eleven and get a Red Bull to wake herself up. The man needs to learn how to speak with courtesy to paying customers. Before you touch anything make sure it wasn't used for a human specimen clean up beforehand. When we checked out at 7AM no one came to the counter. So we just left our room card on the counter. Cute inn off the main road. Easy check in and out. No breakfast offered due to Covid. Bathroom was huge. I always appreciate a roomy bathroom. Parking was plenty, but might be a bit challenging for larger sized SUVs or trucks. Bed was comfy and had a table inside for dining for two. read more

First of all, there is NO FREE BREAKFAST. After we paid and checked in we were asked if we had questions and I asked where we got breakfast and the answer was "there is no breakfast." I said that their website advertised free breakfast, and they acknowledged that yes, it did, but there was none. This was after we had paid, of course. And why bother changing something if it will make you more money? But I calculated the budget with that in mind, and suddenly it's dramatically smaller since I'll have to go out to eat. Since they are literally, unapologetically, not giving part of what we paid for, I removed two stars. The whole thing was skeezy, and of course most hotels are sold out now so it's not like we could just go somewhere Else. The entire thing is super unethical. Also, we checked in as two people and they only gave us a single room key, which was super inconvenient. As far as the rooms, they're clean, small. Very, very hard mattresses but the bed in our room made a weird, large metallic sound when we got on it, and occasionally when moving. There's a microwave and a larger than average mini fridge, the former of which is not common. There's no bath but the shower is nice and probably better than a cramped bath would be. Not enough room for toiletries though, as for some reason they decided to block the only toiletry shelf with those unhygienic built in ones, which literally only have poor quality shampoo and shower gel. I'd rather have nothing than this. :( The walls are thin and you can pretty much hear everything outside your room, but it's not in a super busy area at least or close to the highway so it's not too bad. Also, it has good ac, which was already on when we checked in, which was nice. They also allowed us to check in 30 minutes early, but that in no way makes up for the lack of breakfast, and their reaction to it, like they didn't just bait and switch us, and sell us something they didn't deliver. I could have booked somewhere else cheaper, or somewhere else that actually offered breakfast which would have made it cheaper in the long run, and I am deeply displeased. Especially because it was so expensive (prices were up because the air show. Not why I was there but it meant hotels were full and prices were insanely high.) Honestly, for very little difference in price I could have gotten someplace much nicer, or, again, with breakfast. Also, if you are coming as a tourist it's worth noting it's quite a walk from any of the big tourist locations (aquarium, fisherman's warf, etc) Pros: AC!!! Microwave Larger than average mini fridge Shower so close to being nice except the toiletry situation Cons: No breakfast Small size No view Poor service Thin walls Location Could go either way: Hard mattresses. We booked the rooms through Booking.com. We scored a great price on the rooms, so good I added a third night to our stay. We are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary! I called ahead of our stay to inquire about Monterey Bay Aquarium tickets. The young lady that I spoke to was very kind, informative and friendly. She proved more of the same at check in. Check in was quick and painless. The room looks to be updated recently. Very nice tile and counter tops. The mini fridge has a light inside. We were able to connect our Playstation to the TV. The linens feel and smell clean and fresh. There were extra pillows in the closet. No pool, looks like they cement filled it in some time ago. A pool would have been nice in warmer weather. One star because the room and bathroom were nice and clean. But one necessity is a nice, warm shower, and this place doesn't have this! The shower is a trickle that will COMPLETELY go away (I.e., no water coming out of the shower head) when someone else turns on their water. The trickle then comes back, but it will come back either scalding hot or cold. If there was any actual water pressure, it would be a huge yelp-inducing shocker. To reset the water temperature you have to turn off the water and turn it back on. When we called the front desk about the shower (the water pressure was so bad, we thought they had to flip a switch to open the pipes to our room or something), the front desk told us that they get a lot of complaints, they know about this issue, and that it's a plumbing problem they will eventually fix at some later date. So if you're looking for a place to rest your weary head, but won't need a shower, this place would be a good consideration. If one of your main reasons for booking a room is to get a shower, this is NOT the place for you. Not until they fix the plumbing, anyway. read more

Due to work closing down temporarily, I've been staying in Cali to be around my elderly parents during COVID. Have spent several weeks at the Padre Oak. I was really shocked by the low ratings on Yelp . . . but noticed they were from some years back. The location is ideal, the rooms are small, cozy, clean and comfortable. The manager and his family are constantly cleaning around the motel (including sweeping the parking lot and sidewalks). All COVID protocol are observed. And a bonus for myself and my fiance is to watch the manager's mother (I believe) pray and bless the motel every morning. It has been a wonderful stay during a terrible situation. First off, the sketchy pictures and poor reviews are a little misleading :-/ Seriously, they make this hotel appear like a haunted place but it was actually pretty decent, cozy, and clean. It's in a safe neighborhood with a mall and some restaurants nearby. I had no problems during my stay! My friend and I made a quick stop here in Monterey before going up to SF and this was one of the cheapest hotels we found. We were in the deluxe room with a queen bed for one night and paid about $62. This might not be the most ideal spot for families staying for a long time but for broke college students like us, it's perfect LOL. I noticed that the staff was a family since I was assisted by what it seemed like the manager's daughter and later the manager himself. The process was fast and easy. Our room was well furnished and the wifi, bed, TV, bathroom, etc worked smoothly. Also, their breakfast room was really nice and had a great food selection. It's not amazing quality but it's comfortable and cheap and if that's what you're looking for, I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Solid place for the price. Room smelled a little musty but had good air circulation with windows. Would stay again. - Shower in our room was renovated recently. Water pressure was totally adequate. - Didn't hear our neighbors. - Room was clean but smelled a bit musty. - You can open windows on both sides and get a nice breeze going (even if it gets a little loud in the morning on the parking lot side (understandably)) - Front-desk people are efficient but not particularly friendly (that's OK by me)...I'm happy to support a non-chain, family-run business - Breakfast options as expected: chocolate muffins, cereal, 2% milk, coffee, tea, juice. I would highly recommend spending another 10-20 dollars a night for somewhere else. I usually love budget places like this, but it was by far the *worst* weekend trip I've had. Terrible beds, pitiful pillows and there was a *knocking* noise all night through the pipes. No one was able to sleep. I talked to a lot of "neighbors" the next day, nobody was able to sleep. Manager refused refunds for anyone who asked. And just about everyone was asking. Please learn from my mistake. Wish I'd read the reviews first and given my money to any of the numerous other motels in the area. The room was about what you'd expect for a budget motel. We aren't picky. The issue was being woken up in the morning by someone banging a sledge hammer right outside our door and then power tools following. I got dressed and opened the door to see they were installing a new AC in the unit next door. Did they have to do it right now? Yes, I was told. When we checked out I asked for a refund. The guy basically told me to f off. Now I have to call my credit card and get a refund that way. Never staying here again. read more

For those of you looking for a quick review to see if this is a decent place to stay I'll quickly say: Yes, and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Monterey. Friendly, near the Del Monte Center (Mall), and feels safe. Now for a more detailed experience for those wanting to know more. First off the staff here are great. They are friendly and extremely helpful. Checking into your room is quick and simple. During my stay, I accidently locked my key in the room during the night; All I had to do was walk over to the front desk and I was assisted fast. They have breakfast that is better than most hotels you'll stay at. The options are nice and plentiful so you don't have to worry about getting there right when it starts at 7:30am. The room itself is what brings the 4 stars and not 5, but here is why. The bed is comfortable just not extreme resort material, but it's not garbage. They also could use some better pillows, or just more although that's a personal preference having them there would be nice. Otherwise, the shower works very well and the TV's are nice for kicking back and plugging in a computer to watch some good 'ol Netflix. I would comment on their cable itself but I never used it. The hotel is right across the street from the outdoor mall (The Del Monte Center) with tons of restaurants/stores and a theater for all sorts of entertainment. And downtown is only a few blocks away if you're looking for really good nightlife. Will you have a good stay if you choose to? Guaranteed. read more

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend while visiting Monterey and Sand City. The hotel is very convenient to downtown and shopping (especially Whole Foods!) and yet very quiet. The front desk staff is friendly and very helpful. All interactions with front staff were through a window with everyone wearing masks so COVID sensitive. The room was clean and very well maintained. It appeared that the walls had been recently painted and the bathroom renovated with a solid surface countertop and nicely tiled shower (no tub). The bed was very comfortable. Shutters on the windows rather than drapes make the room brighter but also prevents the room from being absolutely dark at night. The small refrigerator and microwave enabled us to make our own breakfasts and reheat food easily. Two nights were extremely quiet. One night a loud group was making music next door but quieted down shortly after 10 pm without us having to raise a fuss. Checkout was easy. A very good value for staying in Monterey. Actual rating: 0 stars. Maybe 1 for a mediocre bed. Let me first just say that I don't typically post bad reviews, or any reviews ever really. I'm not a primadonna, but this place delivers a remarkably bad experience, (one of the absolute worst short of bedbugs), and as far as 'hospitality' (or lackthereof) as a quality is considered. I mistakenly booked a room here, presuming there was a bathtub (which was my singular reason for booking a room in the first place). After realizing this error within 30 min of booking, and in the evening, Expedia called immediately after on my behalf, to try and request a cancellation and refund. The manager, Mike, refused the cancellation and refund to the phone representative, and then again to me, when I attempted to explain my situation and request it in person. He then lied to my face when I asked to speak to the owners, telling me they weren't on the premises, and then, when I heard them on the other side of the door and asked if I could please speak to them, he refused to allow me to do so. He absurdly told me that 'most motels in the area are doing away with bathtubs due to some zoning laws and legality issues' (Ha! That was some patent shit served on a shingle). If that claim wasn't ridiculous enough, he then denied and scoffed at my assertion that even Motel 6s have bathtubs and that the presumption of a bathtub included with the room was an understandable one to be made. So I had to take the room. The bathroom had a shower with no door or lip to contain the water from spilling all over the tiled bathroom floor, only a drain in the middle of the larger bathroom floor. A complete liability and safety hazard, (and thankfully I don't have mobility issues to compound the risk), but who cares? Clearly not these folks. How they wound up in the customer service and hospitality industry is intensely bewildering and mind boggling...a terrible mystery. Beginning at 7am, I was awakened by loud shaking, pounding on the walls, vacuuming, and what sounded to be the whirring of machines, drills, and saws. It sounded as though it was coming from and through the adjacent room. This continued without pause for the next 4 hrs up until checkout. The cleaning attendant knocked on my door and yelled into the room two separate times 2 hrs before checkout time despite my posted do not disturb sign and despite being told the first time that checkout was at 11. As I approached my car to leave and check out, I saw that there was construction in progress a few rooms down from mine and observed the truck and all of the equipment. My own car, that I had just spent $20 cleaning the previous day, was now entirely covered in a thick coat of sawdust from the construction. I contacted Expedia, who contacted the hotel, and once again, were refused a refund by the hotel. They lied yet again, first saying that there was construction, but that it ' hadn't affected any cars there', and then, they further dissembled, and told the representative that the construction occurred next door to the hotel, and thusly, off property grounds. Again, yet another boldfaced remorseless lie. Short version: Don't stay here. You'd honestly be better off sleeping in your car and showering and bathing at the gym then getting hustled by these amateurish and opportunistic shiesters. read more

I was nervous to stay based on reviews but decided to give it a try. We stayed one night and the room was comfortable. It is a little small but not a problem especially for the price. The room we got was newly renovated. They offer simple breakfast options such as cereal, oatmeal, donuts, etc., nothing major which we did not mind either. The only complaint we had was that there was no coffee maker, there also wasn't a bathtub but that wasn't a deal breaker. It is a small place so the parking is right outside your door. So you will hear car doors closing, etc. but it wasn't a major problem. Other than that it's a small cozy place, close to downtown. We were just driving through and it was perfect for us. read more
