    Alisomar Beach 2015

I was 100% happy with Deer Haven It's close to alisomar beach , comfortable quiet , clean and reasonably priced This depends on the timing and hotels need to be make a living . Is is not far from the lighthouse and lovers point. unfortunately no more continental breakfast but not hard to bring to bring your own basic food and it's near the wishbone restaurant and Gianna's Pizza

This was a great place to stay for a couple of days. The rooms were nice even though very basic and close to everything I wanted to check out. I also loved that it was pet friendly. The service was very warm and friendly. I'll stay here again in the near future.

My dad booked this place for our family vacation and we loved it here! Biggest bonus..they accept pets and we never travel without our Snowshoe Siamese cat, Poppies. We enjoyed the proximity to Asilomar Beach (5 minute walk), Cannery Row (5 minute drive), and Point Lobos Reserve (15 minute drive). We found it to be quiet and comfortable. Lovely place, highly recommend. We plan to return again!

This is a very nice place. The room was nice and very clean when we arrived. It's close to the beach and not far from Cannery Row. The front staff was very friendly. We had a 2 Queen room with a fireplace. It is nice to open the window on a cool day and have the fireplace going. Also, having a fire pit in the front was nice. The only downside would be we could hear the road noise, and the bed was not very comfortable. It wasn't awful, but wasn't soft. The website shows pictures of breakfast and in the room the book mentions breakfast but it is no longer offered, only coffee and tea. I would definitely stay here again.

    Morning deers!

Had a lovely stay at this hotel last weekend! We came for a two day Indian wedding ceremony (happening at hotels with $400-$600 a night rooms) so we were looking for something simple and affordable. Deer Haven was just that and perfect for our needs. When I checked us in on Friday the receptionist was very nice, same age as me and we talked about weddings and what to wear (noticed my henna!). Our room was 110, lower level corner. Never heard people above us. Never heard people to our left. Straight up, this was such a quiet and peaceful hotel, it felt like we were there by ourselves (which is wild because it's definitely a busy time of year for travel)!!! The beds were comfy. We didn't use the fireplace. TV was old school (no apps) so it was fun to watch Comedy Central and other channels we used to like when cable was king. And lastly, we saw deer! LOTS of deer, especially in the mornings!!! If you're looking for a nice affordable place to lay your head down while you explore pebble beach and Monterey, you should book this place. Edit: adding more detail! It IS close to the beach! Our friend spent both of her mornings walking to the beach and back. Is the beach directly across the street? No, but that's ok. Use your legs and explore! The trails are very close, and she loved walking around in the mornings. The hotel itself is in a bit of a residential patch, but I grew up in Half Moon Bay so this place felt like I was walking around home. I knew that it wouldn't be "central" like you walk out the door and 5 restaurants are there, but hotels like that were double or more in price. This was a great deal and close enough to all the things!

    Comfortable king size bed.

Had another great stay at the Deer Haven. Great location. Five minutes to the beach. Very clean and the staff is friendly. The big plus is it is dog friendly. I'll be back.

    A campfire at the beach.

So with Valentines in mind...check in at 4 but they sent a text saying our room was ready at 11 or so and asked what time might we expect you? My timing was four and that's about when we arrived. It's a bit complicated but the signage was clear and there were a couple of parking spaces right by the check in office. Wow what a place Old Victorian and absolutely beautiful inside. Check in was easy and fun, we could keep our car where it was parked. There were small socializing events, a champagne pour at 5, cookies at 7...Our room was just off the parking area with no stairs to climb. We were also close to the breakfast spot. (starts at 8-10) Our room was well a large bedroom, tall queen size bed, a very large bathroom, with a Great shower (water pressure) and rainfall shower head. Three large windows gave us a good view of the bay, the window shades were thick enough to block out most of the light. The mattress was super comfortable, we slept well. We took an Uber to the old pier and had dinner, it was very quiet in town, perfect. Free breakfast always has me wondering but today this was a very nice breakfast, egg soufflé, hash browns, lots of real fresh fruit, croissants, various breads, oatmeal, various topping and cereal. Hit flavorful coffee, juices, yogurts...good stuff. The stay was pricy for the off season but sometimes ya gotta spend a few bucks too enjoy the finer things in life. Today we're headed up highway One to Capitola and over to San Jose to Santana Row for dinner with the kids, stay tuned. Foodguy-Martin

I find that service is usually at its best during those times and this was no exception. The staff was great and so was the property, including its proximity to the water, shopping and dining. I love staying at older hotels and inns because the properties are usually small and quaint, with so much charm and character. I like the limited number of rooms because each is different and unique, providing the opportunity for a one of a kind experience each time you visit.

It felt like we were inconveniencing her by having the audacity to check into our room. The room was small but that's fine, it's to be expected. Note that the walls are THIN AS CAN BE. I could hear the room next to us flush their toilet. I wish I was joking. The worst part was the shower head. The first day it was spraying a bit to the sides and got the bathroom floor a little wet. The second day all hell broke loose and the entire bathroom was soaked after a 5 minute shower. I had to wipe down the counter, the toilet, and the sink from all the shower water. I've never experienced anything like it. The "continental breakfast" is pathetic. Cold and tiny pastries and blueberry bagels. So expect to eat elsewhere for breakfast. I recommend Winston's around the corner (it's outstanding). The lady at the front desk the day we checked out and that I reported the shower leak to was very hospitable. To be honest, she was the only positive part of this entire experience. I'm just so disappointed in this place. I was really looking forward to our stay but it fell short in every way plus some. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere and we loved the historical aspect of the Inn. There is a small parking lot on the property, but we chose to park on the street (it's free) because there was a space right in front of our cottage door. The staff is very friendly. The star was lost because of the poor breakfast. Cold bagels, no butter, tiny, tasteless cold pastries. Sad because the little breakfast room with its cozy seating is very inviting.

They've done a great job of keeping the character of the house but also modernizing it. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Leese was at the front desk for most our stay and she was very kind and helpful. Housekeeping and the cooking staff do a great job as well. We had breakfast every morning and it was hot, fresh and provided variety each day. We stayed in Room 21, La Porte. It included a private side entrance outside the main house which was great. I think our room location was a little noisier than other rooms due to the entrance area outside the room being used by staff and some other guests. This wasn't a bad thing for us but something to note for those looking for quiet. We'll definitely come back to Pacific Grove and the Gosby will definitely be a consideration for lodging.

The room had a nice jacuzzi bathtub which we both enjoyed. The bed was big and comfortable. There was a cool antique wardrobe in the room which we used to store our clothes. The only downside was that it got a little cool in our room at times (it would be fine in the summer probably but this was in mid February). I put 2 extra blankets on top and we turned on both heaters, the one in the bathroom and the one in our room. Once the heaters had been on for a while it got quite warm and cozy. I would recommend they purchase a nice big down comforter for the room because then we would not need to use as much heat. There was an imitation down comforter but those are not as warm. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly and nice and helpful. The inn was very clean. The food was excellent. I ate way too many calories for the breakfast but it was so delicious. I didn't gain weight on this trip though, maybe because of all the walking I did, Pacific Grove is an adorable little town and the Lovers Point walking trail is delightful. Make sure to admire the cute houses in the town. So many fun little details. There is a combo bookstore/coffee shop next door to the Gosby House and it was so nice to head over there one morning and get a cappuccino and chat with the other people in the cafe. We also went to the aquarium which is close by and to the Sardine Factory restaurant, which is very nice. One of the perks of staying at the Gosby House is their fresh baked cookies and wine hour. We don't drink alcohol but the fresh baked cookies were delicious, we definitely enjoyed! My favorite was the chocolate/chocolate. Yum. I would definitely return to the Gosby House or back to another 4 sisters inn. I got a really good impression. We also went to the Pacific Thai restaurant which is about 1 block away from the Gosby House. That was great too and I had a good artichoke soup. Parking was quite easy for the Gosby House. They don't have their own lot but it was easy to find parking very close. Check in time was 4pm I think but we got there a little early and our room was ready. The other guests were peaceful and nice and clearly having a good time. The inn was mostly quiet and peaceful. It was quiet at night. I would highly recommend this Inn. Overall it was a very good experience.

I specifically chose Sunset Inn over the Bide-a-Wee Inn next door because Sunset Inn advertised that their "cottages" (which are not cottages at all - they are just motel rooms) each come with a patio or balcony. I spent $100 more specifically to have this feature, only to arrive and find out that their version of a "patio" is just 2 chairs on the stoop/sidewalk next to the front door, facing the driveway/parking lot or the unit directly across from you. Zero view, zero privacy, zero tranquility, in a tiny area of about 10 square feet. That it NOT a patio, and I feel scammed. The room itself was clean, but not comfortable. The bed has a cheap, springy mattress; cheap, uncomfortable pillows; and no air conditioning or way to control the temperature in the room (there is a thermostat on the wall, but completely disabled. There is a fake fireplace, but no discernable way to cool down the room, which was quite muggy and stuffy.) The walls are thin and you can hear noise from the parking lot comin through the windows, and the coffee creamer is so old that it had caked together into a wafer instead of power. The breakfast area in the morning was cramped and disappointing. There is no suitable spread to put on the stale bread or muffins on offer (no cream cheese... not even butter! Just nasty margarine, which tells you how cheap Sunset Inn is, and how much they cut corners. At the Bide-a-Wee next door, they had butter, cream cheese, and even had hardboiled eggs for protein - and it costs half the price of this place!) And then there's the poor customer service. This expensive 2-star motel won't let you cancel (even with more than 24 hours notice) after booking a cancellable room. My wife fell ill and could no longer come down with me, so now I am stuck with a 3 hour drive and a $290 bill (extremely high for a one night stay!) all just to stay by myself at this motel since I don't want the money to go to waste. We called about 30 hours before our reservation (early morning on February 14 for a stay the night of the 15th), and they would not allow us to cancel. Instead, he offered credit for a stay, but only on a weeknight during off-season (November, December, or January)... my wife and I can't take time off to do a weeknight stay, and it's preposterous that this is the only credit that would be offered when I spent nearly $300 PER NIGHT at this sub-par establishment. Pacific Grove is a place we have frequented many times over the years, and we were hoping to find a new establishment to make our "home" whenever we visit, but it definitely won't be Sunset Inn. It's one of the 2 worst lodging experiences I've ever encountered in 20 years of coming to the area.
