Hell yeah! This is the archetypal greasy-spoon diner. This place screams 'Murica, right down to the huge flag on the wall. Sure, it's a little grimy, grease-stained, and cluttered. So what? None of that really affects what is coming out of the kitchen--hot, fast and tasty. The food is great, the service is fine, and the price is right. You can get plenty of delicious comfort food in your belly for about $10. Try it. You won't regret it. read more

I really wanted this dive to be amazing. However, the service was poor. No coffee ready for breakfast, we had to consistently ask for help, and local seemed to be their preference and focus. No a good find! We had to pay and go find more food because we were still hungry. read more

At this intersection of two "Aldine __" streets, you would think a restaurant would be named "Al's Diner". Ha-ha! The building is a modified vintage version of an old fast food chain that I can't quite recognize, but I think it's from the Pleistocene era. It's old enough to name it "GrandPa-Pa's" Pick-up trucks dominate the parking lot at lunchtime (ya-ya). This place and Tony's Country Kitchen are practically next door, and they are next to the Aldine Middle School baseball park, the M.O. Campbell Education Center, and WW Thorne football stadium. I suspect they get a good before and after game crowd (rah-rah!). Owner is friendly and gave me a sample of cake after my meal. Customers that I saw are loyalists and mainly from nearby industrial parks and the neighborhood. It has a small, cafeteria-style selection of traditional home-cooked foods. I have not tried those, but they don't look that appealing to me. (nah-nah) I had a burger. It was better & bigger than you could get at the McD across the street, but a dollar more. A good down to earth restaurant with an abundance of patina. The home cook aroma coming from the kitchen overpowers any cigarette smell, if there is one. Friendly staff, delicious food and a great value, I must say I have only been here for breakfast but the lunch specials look just as good. If you are in the area, pass on the fast food chains across the street, pull in here and get a good meal. This review is based on two different visits, both in the same week. Started a new job in the area and was looking for home style cooking for lunch. Stopped in mid week and they had a pretty good selection on the steam table. There were at least 4 or 5 meats to choose from plus a good dose of vegetables. I ended up getting the chicken and dumplings and they were pretty good and you get a large portion of everything you pick. You will not be leaving here hungry. Place is OLD and not updated. Decor is outdated and lacking at best, but who cares if the food is good. I would give it a solid 8/10. Great, quick, fairly inexpensive lunch. I went again later in the week and was looking forward to another helping of home good cooking. While the food didn't disappoint, the customers did. I guess I got lucky the first time, because about 25% of the customers were smoking inside. Its been a while since I was at a place that allowed smoking inside and it was a shock at least. Being a former smoker, I have nothing against it, but I sure in the hell dont want to smell it while I am eating and everyone seemed to be chain smoking. The haze of smoke turned a solid 4.5 star lunch into a 2 star lunch as I was wolfing my food down as fast as I could so I could get outside to some fresh air. read more

Horrible, I found roaches on my can soda. It's a can so no biggie we should've left but my brother and I decided to stay anyway only to find hair in both of our plates and they had the nerve to try and charge us for the food. They offered to remake the food but considering there was a lack of care prior to we could only imagine what may have went on with the preparation of our food at that point would not recommend if they were paying people to come eat. read more

Easily the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. To start, people were smoking cigarettes left and right. The waitress that said "everything is great here "must have meant relative to cardboard. I would now pay good money to be able to throw up everything I ate. Yes, the prices are good but save yourself the trouble and go to McDonald's, or anywhere else for that matter. If you do somehow get tricked into going, please save yourself the hassle and just get one of the simple breakfast plates. Less food means less regret here. read more

I've seen this place and have been wanting to check it our for a while now. The place itself is an old fast food place- maybe DQ so the décor is wayyy outdated. But nonetheless we walked in and walked over to the cafeteria table area. They had a decent selection of home-style food. We had the Salisbury steak, Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes , macaroni and veggies. The waitress came and brought us our drinks, silverware and our choice of cornbread or rolls. The taste for the main entrees were on point, the mac and cheese could have used a little more seasoning, mashed potatoes were good and the price was even better. Lunch for 2 was under twenty bucks. Will have to come back to try the burgers which we overheard was their "Go To Item". read more

Well, I'll start with the good. Our waitress was very nice and my bacon was crispy. I ordered the 2 egg plate with bacon, hash browns, and a biscuit. My hash browns tasted like crisco and the grill (and not in a good way), and my biscuit seemed old and dry. The eggs were ok. As previous reviews have stated, the whole place smells like smoke and now I do too. This one will not make my repeat visit list. read more

I asked for an egg white omelet and what I received was yellow. An egg white omelet should be white. When it was brought to the cook's attention he insisted it was egg white. I caved and took it because I had food for other people. However, when I got back not only did I have a yellow egg white omelet I had the wrong ingredients in the omelet. Went in this morning and I have to say what I ordered was not good at all. I took two bites and did not like it at all. The server Irma was very nice, but the food was not. I had pancakes eggs and ham. The pancakes were very dry and tasted like dirt. The eggs were undercooked, and the ham tasted sour. Would have given a one star if not for the nice lady Irma. It also reeks of smoke in the restaurant. It seems to be a hang out for older guys to get their morning coffee and smokes in before they start their day. I would not go back.
