Chicken fried chicken

Mom's country kitchen is a hidden gem. We wanted a quick hearty lunch and went somewhere we knew would get us in and out. Our group of 13 got there around 11am to a delicious selection of food from fried fish, beef tips and gravy, king ranch casserole and chopped steak. They also serve breakfast items made to order. I selected the fried fish, greens and Mac and cheese. The portion sizes are huge and our bill was very reasonable. They had fresh rolls and cornbread by the drink station and plenty of seating even for our big group. The workers came around to refill drinks and bring containers to go. Several people split a banana pudding. My food was good, the best was the Mac and cheese and greens mixed with the fish, which is how I ate my leftovers later. Great selection and don't sleep on this place.

This was actually a really good breakfast lunch restaurant. The staff was very friendly, they helped us with our order. Explained how everything works to place an order. The dining area was large open space with quite a few tables. We showed up near their closing time and the place was quiet. The food was very good with large portions. Definitely worth the stop.

My breakfast!

Great homemade food! I came in for late breakfast, walked in, and the cashier asked if I wanted breakfast. I guess she could tell I had just woken up. Anywho, I ordered pancakes, bacon, eggs, & hash browns. Food came out hot, the bacon was cooked to perfection. The pancakes needed some help, kind of dry. Added loads of butter & syrup to drown out the dullness. The eggs were cooked to perfection, over hard. They had some fresh corn bread & buttery rolls, too bad I can't them. They looked really delicious! Good food, good service thanks moms!

Roast beef with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy

My husband and I were on this end of town to pick up our youngest son and decided to give this place a try, as we both wanted some "down home cooking" and comfort food. I had relaxed my usually restrictive diet for the holidays and was getting in all the goodies I could before the fun was over lol. Unfortunately, we caught MCK right before closing, so the options remaining were limited. we settled on the roast beef for both of us. I got green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy and my husband got two different types of potatoes because he's determined to give himself a heart attack. Based on the food, the rating would be at 3 simply because it seemed to have been in the pans under warming lamps a long time, and wasn't very fresh, but that was partly our fault for arriving at the time we did. I added a star because the service was very good. They were very welcoming even though we got there close to closing time, and our food was okay even if a little on the dry side. I could tell if we had gotten it fresh it would've been much better. Also, I really wanted to try their meatloaf so I was a tad bit disappointed that they had run out. At any rate, please do give them a try because I think it's a great local spot, and I love these types of restaurants. Restaurants in the comfort food niche seem to be few and far between as quality at most restaurants, especially chain restaurants, has diminished greatly in recent years.

I can't believe I drove by this little gem so many times without realizing something was there! I found it online and we decided to take a family friend. We were torn between the steam table and the menu but decided to order off the menu. Soooo many great options. The breakfast options were way better than any other breakfast place and they are huge! I was craving fries so I decided to go with the Yardbird, which was a really great choice for me. I was skeptical about the aioli that came in the sandwich but it was really good! Crystal was just the best. She took such good care of us! Jon Michael was so welcoming when we first walked in. I will definitely be back here more. Especially now that I know it's in my neighborhood! It's a pretty busy place but they seem to accommodate everyone very well in a decent amount of time. It does feel like a mom's kitchen!

So we decided to try this spot after reading a yelp review and we weren't disappointed. I tried a dish off the line (chop steak, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and brown gravy) I also added a side of corn fritters. My wife had the yard bird potato and she absolutely loved it. Our son had the cheeseburger and said it was delicious. The Homemade corn bread was spot on as was the sweet tea. The staff was so welcoming and attentive and the environment was warm and cozy. If you're in the area this is a must stop and don't take my word for it look at the packed parking lot that's all you need to know.

First time in Houston and I'm so so so so glad i yelped a place to eat instead of going to a fast food spot. Moms kitchen came up and DAMMMM it did not disappoint! It's close to the IAH airport with plenty of parking and a lot of seating inside. As soon as we stepped in we were greeted by the staff and everyone was so sweet! Dammm southern hospitality is real out here and I wish i could bring it back with us. The dessert menu is so creative that i wanted to take it with me we got the chocolate chip cookie to go (they were out of cobbler and cinnamon rolls) that should tell you how good their desserts are! Also, everything is baked and made there! Our food may not look the prettiest but man oh man did it hit the spot! We'll definitely return when we visit Houston again and we'd let all of our friend know to stop in.

Brisket Hash, Chicken and Waffles, happy hour oatmeal

The food was exceptional and the service phenomenal. John Michael took our order and was very kind, welcoming, and a great energy to be around. Ronda brought the food with a smile, checking in on us. We had no expectations of this place, but will certainly be coming back! I was there to try the brisket hash but would come back for the service and the breakfast burger. The breakfast burger may be one of the best burgers I have ever experienced and cannot recommend this burger enough.

This place has been a 5 Star place since I walked in !!! Best Country Cooking in the Houston Area !!! The staff is so friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is great. From mom (world traveler), to her daughter in law (owner and hard working woman), to Rhonda (cashier), and all the waitresses, thanks for always taking care of us with that Texas Hospitality !!! WARNING - The later you come the less choices you'll have. They only cook so much of each item. But there is plenty of choices if you get there early.

Thankfully, Mark was there and initially was told a 35 minute wait but seemed intent by quicker. Ambiance: 4/5 It was breakfast time so of course it was a busy time. For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

I'll admit that when we got there, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside is a different feel. We were greeted and told we could sit where we like. We picked a table and a menu was promptly brought over with a warm welcome. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and the taco salad with beef. All very good! What I eventually found both surprised and delighted me, and Nate's gets a thumbs up overall. Pictures are deceiving as I thought the place would be larger but it's a tight fit for bigger groups. There are only a handful of tables but plenty of character. It's also a bit grimey, unsightly and even a tinge dodgey, which may be a deal breaker for others but is an immediate appeal to me. Two things immediately standout when it comes to the food: the portions and the prices are outstanding. The offerings are as no frills as the rest of the establishment. The other surprise was how much influence there was from Mexican cuisine. Hash browns were the goal, but chorizo and chilaquiles were the bonus. Another surprise? The hash browns weren't as crispy as I would have wanted. It's entirely plausible that I came on an off day, which happens. However everything else was on point as my chorizo skillet was absolutely dynamite, pancakes were fluffy and indulgent, breakfast tacos were outstanding, and my eggs were perfectly softly scrambled. Even the bacon and sausage patties were delicious, which is a tall order considering it's not likely made in house. Lastly, as someone who drinks cold water like it's a hobby (#1), I'm especially grateful for the massive 32 oz cup of water, which is perfect for someone who drinks like a camel. The staff is not the quickest but they are friendly. Spanish may go further with most and they're not the quickest when it comes to greeting folks or cleaning tables. The food is the star and consider paying in cash. ____________ (#1) I'm thirsty.

I wanted to start with one biscuit, but the biscuits come in pairs. The waitress said I could order just one anyway, but the order ended up being two. I meant to save the second one for breakfast, but that was not to be. It did not survive long enough to make it out the door. My actual meal was a bacon swiss and mushroom burger, which was excellent. Between the biscuits and the burger, I am forced to acknowledge that it was entirely too much food. Sadly, that did not prevent me from eating all of it anyway. Delicious! The restaurant, which is a diner with very basic decor, is on an approach road to IAH, and is open 24/7. When I arrived in the evening, the place was empty. By the time I left, there were a whole bunch of customers. I noticed in other reviews that people were saying they did not receive checks for their meal and felt they were over-charged at the register. Our server was also very nice, and super helpful as I asked for a wine suggestion and she hit the nail with her suggestion. She brought a small sample for me to try before serving it. The food itself was delicious! We got the onion rings appetizer, and you could tell they were made to order. They were super fresh and also crispy. Mr. Picky ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp while I opted for Veal Parmigiana, and we each stole a bite from the other's plate. We reached consensus immediately that both dishes were well-seasoned and quite delicious, meaning we would return for more good food in the future. Seriously, we hadn't expected much when walking in and looking around, but were pleasantly surprised at the kitchen's efforts. We finished lunch with an order of homemade bread pudding and tiramisu, the latter of which in 2012 won a chamber of commerce epicurean competition 1st place ribbon. I wasn't there to judge that competition and have had better, but sincerely appreciated the moistness of the bread pudding. While the majority of diners were older and a more mature crowd, there's a lot to be said for value, and we thought the menu price was better than reasonable and I think a lot of people will discover this as a value destination, something we all appreciate.
