When you first opened on South Lamar, it was like a burger blessing: fresh, hot, deliciously simple burgers, golden crispy fries, and excellent customer service. I was smitten! My once-a-week ritual was practically sacred. Fast-forward to today: P. Terry's has grown...and with it, a catastrophic plunge in quality. Today's visit was, sadly, the final straw. The fries? I went there drive through on May the 19th, I was ordering burgers, fries and chocolate banana shake. When I was at the window, after I made the payment the check out lady handed me the shake, it was runny like water, I told her "is this shake supposed to be like this? It's runny like water" she didn't say anything because she was confused and couldn't speak English, She only memorized the words, only little words she spoke. Absolute disappointment. The quality of food at THIS location has fallen off a cliff. Chicken was rubbery with a gristle-like crust too hard to even pinch in half with my fingers. French fries were totally uncooked, dripping in so much grease that it leaked through two bags and its own wrapper. Staff could not understand my order through the microphone: suppose "#4 Combo" didn't translate well three times? Called to complain, but management wasn't going to be onsite until after 4pm. I don't understand how difficult it is to listen to the customer and input accurate information into a machine. This location reassures me of the difficulty of understanding the difference between lettuce and tomato, spicy and regular, 2 patties or 1.... Etc. Some advice: lettuce is the green, leafy vegetable. Terry's appeared right in front of me on the 183S access road. This location is always busy but at 130PM there was only one car in front of me. Ordering was a breeze, one double cheeseburger and no lettuce. Yup it was my cheat day. My burger arrived tout de suite at the takeout window. My order was perfect. The burger was cooked to perfection and was juicy as all heck. Did it meet my expectations? Yes, and then some. I hate to give a bad score but on 2 visits on Friday sept 29th and sat sept 30th I had issues with the person not speaking enough English to take my order over the speaker box where I had to ask for someone else. I have always loved P Terry's. It's an Austin staple. I often go with the single grilled chicken sandwich meal. It's something about the way they melt the cheese onto the chicken that makes it so mouthwateringly good. The fries are thin and flavorful. The double chicken sandwich and double cheeseburger are also good choices. We just moved to the Austin area about 1 yr ago (we love it here!) and always seen the signs for p.terry's but never went and now my coworkers husband suggested it so we finally decide to try it. This location is just a drive thru, it's not a sit in type of place. There was a lot of cars there but they handle the line well. It's a simple menu and they are quick and accurate with the orders. My husband had the double cheeseburger (added the optional jalapeños-extra charge, onions and pickles) with fresh cut fries and a coke. I just had the same burger but added bacon to mine. The burgers (angus beef that's hormone free, antibiotics free and vegetarian fed) are fresh, good size and delicious. They come with lettuce and tomatoes. The fries remind me of the great fries back in Chicago from Gene & Judes hot dog spot. They are freshly cut everyday and taste very yummy. I will be here again especially after knowing the beef and fries is healthier here than others. read more

P.Terry's wins in all categories for me. And I love how it's a local Austin chain! Favorite menu item is their shakes, hands down. Not for the lactose intolerant since they use real ice cream and milk, but that makes for extra richness and goodness. I also like how they always have a shake of the month to keep things interesting. Also have never had bad service at this location. What keeps me from giving this awesome local chain 5 stars is that the burger isn't knockout amazing. Then again I'm probably just chasing imaginary fast food hamburger unicorns though. read more
