Well it's fast and convenient and cheap if you want a quick uncomplicated bite before a show at the Castro Theatre. No frills and a bit dingy dining area, but at least there's a place to sit. I had a small mushroom pizza with mozerrella cheese (no feta, etc). It had a thin crust, fresh toppings and tasty cheese/sauce. Parking wasn't too hard right around 2am. Overall, a solid experience without the pizza being too greasy, etc. Will come back for sure. If the pizza crust could be a little bit stronger to hold the cheese and mushrooms, as it fell off from a freshly baked pizza, that would be great! Got a slice of pizza that was scalding hot - burned my fingers and tongue and slice fell on the floor - told the employee who laughed at me and said "what do you expect? Pizza is hot" - no apology - had a smirk on his face - asked for a refund- did not give me one (I regret I tipped him also) - instead got a replacement slice which I opted for cold so wouldn't burn myself again. Oz Pizza is a counter-serve fast casual pizza joint in the Castro. There's no ambiance to speak of, but it seems to be the place to get a slice quickly for lunch and then go. I haven't seen anyone meet friends or camp out here. There was a language barrier when I tried to order, but was eventually able to put in the request. The draw here for me was the exotic meats, which as of my visit were alligator, ostrich, and deer. I ordered the "Ostrich the bitch", which comes with chopped ostrich meat, peaches, red pepper, and basil. I modified my cheese for vegan cheese because of a dairy restriction. The pizza was disappointing, though I'm glad I was able to try something relatively exotic with easy accessibility. It would likely have been better with dairy cheese, but regardless, the toppings didn't work for me. They seemed randomly selected instead of working together. Disgusting we went last night to grab a few slices ordered our pizza. We got them sat down at the table i put grated parm cheese, opened the jar since ot wasn't coming out. Turns out it was all moldy inside and I had already put it on my pizza. Took it back to get another slice and gave the jar to the man behind the counter. I got another slice but I kept wondering what else that they have that is moldy. Gross won't ever eat there again. Those three were delicious, but the fig one really stood out. There's tons of toppings - large amount of dried figs and meat! We originally came here to try their "weird" meats - ostrich, deer! But since we came late, they were all out. They said if you want to try it, you have to come Lunch time on a Friday or Saturday, otherwise they'll be out super fast. Well...they were open and we were fed, LOL. Their primary draw is pizza-by-the-slice, so if you just want a simple bite like that, you should be good. We, on the other hand, ordered a sandwich and a salad in addition to our slices, and they took several, several minutes to come out...long after we'd eaten our pizza. My "salad" was basically just lettuce and, what seemed like an entire box of croutons; I counted 32 croutons that I set aside, but I'd eaten a few more before that, so it was probably more like 40. The staff was just friendly enough, and seemed to be aware of their shortcomings, so...whatever. We could've gone to any other pizza-by-the-slice place around, but we were hungry and jumped at the first one we saw. The pizza was cooked just right, almost like they expected you to pop this in your own home oven to "finish" cooking it. We didn't do it this time, but may do this if we order again because we prefer crunchier slices. I tried the topping ingredients (cheese, tomatoes, basil, garlic + pepperoni), all are fresh and tasty. So do we need some green eyeglasses to help with this pizza? Service was poor and pizza was too. I asked for pizza to be cooked well done and it was barley cooked. Got pizza burger and asked to have is cut in half for me the gentleman behind the count basically said not and pointed at the flimsy plastic knives they had on the counter. I am 67 years old and have eaten my share of pizza All over California. So today, myself and 3 friends venture into the Castro...I admit, first time in 8 years. After journeying about we became hungry and tried this place. OMG! This is the worst pizza I have ever had....and it's difficult to mess up pizza. I had the sausage and it was so dry, so unappetizing that I literally left 90% on the paper plate. The only reason 10% was consumed was because I was really hungry and ate the crust. 1 friend had the Chicken, said it was 'ok' (she's known to consume anything). Another one had the mushroom and left haft on her plate. The last one had a plain and left haft of hers. The bill, with one Dr. Pepper and a water was $59.00. The attitude of the guy working was exactly as some others have described, cold...like he did not want to be there. This is a business service and in truth I could get over the attitude as anyone can have a bad day, but I can't get over the lackluster pie. None of us will be returning. They move you along quickly and have an awesome selection of slices, each of which are huge! Snag a seat inside, outside, or take it to-go. They reheat the slices for you upon ordering. I used my Yelp check in offer (free soda with purchase of 2 slices) at the register. I love that they have some "exotic" options like gator, camel, and ostrich. This pizza is not good enough to be good pizza, and it is not bad enough to be considered good pizza either especially at $7.50+ a slice. I wish I read the reviews before coming here because it is just as mediocre as everyone says it is. I got the figgy piggy and the potato pesto. and while it wasn't bad, there wasn't anything spectacular about it. The flavors weren't quite there. For the potato garlic pesto, the potato, basil, and garlic flavor just wasn't present enough despite it being visually there. The crust's texture was perfect, but even then, it didn't have the toasty, crispy pizza crust flavor that people love. The figgy piggy was almost good too, but the fig flavor, the arugula was just not there. Bacon is always good but whatever. I've had similar flavors at $3.00 a slice at Arizmendi's before btw. Yeah . . .and at $15 for two slices, I'd rather pay more for a freshly made pizza at say, Pizza Hacker or Long Bridge. I was 100% planning on heading to Chinatown for dinner on this specific night, but it was my last night and when I searched for exotic eats this place popped up. Reason being was their kangaroo and camel pizzas. I love trying wacky things that you can't get anywhere else and this was right up my alley. Right after my workout I headed right over. The shop is located right in the middle of the Castro area which for those who don't know is the LGBTQ area of town and it's quiet obvious when entering the areas. The shop was pretty low key and no crowd at all. They no longer carry the Kangaroo pizza but they do have Ostrich pizza which fit the mold for unique so I went with that and the camel. I personally favored the Ostrich pizza, but both were great. The pizza itself was good and the meats just added to it. For the two pizzas it rang me up $16 but honestly were pretty filling. Check in on Yelp and get a free soda. Overall pretty happy here, service wasn't the friendliest, but looking past that point as the offering is something you won't get anywhere else. read more
