This place is FIRE!!! Best oysters I ever had, and they came with a lot of oyster liquor (natural juice that oysters produce, a mix of seawater from their habitat and their own internal fluids such as hemolymph (the invertebrate equivalent of blood) and cellular fluids). The oyster liquor makes it so the oyster remains fresh btw as well which is obviously uber important. We had oysters from Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut and all of the ones we chose you could taste the unique differences from one to the next. Crab cakes were on point; the vegetables were next level with the side of asparagus coming with roe on top of it. New England soup was actually light and not heavy like most creamy NE soups which I appreciated as it made me have room for the rest of the meal. We also indulged in some Butterscotch Pudding which in my view had three distinct flavors. The very top tasted similar to sweet creme Brule, the actual pudding was creamy and delish and there was a garnish of whipped cream I believe on top. Especially knowing that this is a top rated happy hour location as well as my preference always being seafood, the seafood options are certainly there! Since this was one of our later happy hours, we arrived ~4:30 and we weren't seated at the bar until 5 as it is a popular spot. The vibe was very New England and felt like home. The oysters were fresh, affordable, and delicious. The oysters here tasted way better than the ones I ate in New Orleans. The mussels were also excellent--tender and flavorful. I ordered a lobster roll outside of the happy hour menu, and while they were generous with the lobster, the dish felt a bit dry and overpowered by too much sriracha, which masked the natural flavor of the lobster. Drinks: I ordered a Sazerac, and it was perfectly balanced. I really appreciate a well-crafted whiskey cocktail, and this one hit the mark. This place is phenomenal! We tried 3 kinds of oysters: Sweet Amalia (Cape May, NJ); Mystic (CT); and Rough Water (RI) and they were all so fresh and perfectly chilled. Outstanding! We also had the crabcakes served with the most delicious green beans and porcini mushrooms topped with parmesan & a side of asparagus. I had just returned from a two week vacation driving down the Pacific Coast. Starting in San Francisco, I went to several seafood restaurants for one item - Cioppino (Fisherman's Stew). Starting with Scoma's, I had it 5 times during those 2 weeks. I happened to read an article about the Oyster House here in Philly. It's tucked away on Sansom St. between 15th and 16th streets. The article highlighted the Fisherman's Stew and the lobster rolls. I was ready for the Stew!! It came nice and hot, which is a strong requirement for me - as it stayed hot until the last spoonful. It was excellent! A great stew starts with the broth - this was so flavorful and rich, with just a little spice! I had to remind myself I was in PA not CA! The stew had calamari, so tender - little shrimps which stood out for their flavor and texture - a delicate white fish and mussels. I was so surprised to find such a great stew here in Philly! The Oyster House will be seeing me regularly - next time, I'll try the lobster rolls! In addition to the HH menu there is a Mid Day menu and the Full Raw Bar menu. I have tried every new oyster that pops up on the menu and It's so much fun trying new things. The bar was incredibly well-stocked (they had both green and yellow Chartreuse, which are near impossible to find these days). My dashing beau and I both got Monkey 47 Last Words (the best cocktail there is) and they were expertly made. Delicious! We waited about 45 minutes for a table, but it went by in a snap. Once we were seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, Amity, who was friendly and fun, right from the jump. It was still happy hour, so oysters were just $2 a piece. We ordered a dozen Blackberry Points and they were fresh, briny perfection. Since it was Valentine's Day, they had a number of specials, including a bonkers caviar service that came with a tin of Italian Osetra, a stack of mini Johnnycakes, crispy-crunchy-salty kettle chips, miso boiled eggs, and mini hash brown cakes (along with some pickled red onion and crême fraiche) and it was absolutely DIVINE. The perfect amount for two, and we had enough room left for dessert, so we got that, too! Dessert was butterscotch pudding for me, toasted coconut key lime pie for him. Oh! And espresso martinis for both of us. The pudding was absolutely delicious, but that key lime pie is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The martinis were pretty bangin', too. But, the lobster was very chewy and generally unpleasant to eat which was a shame because i'm sure it accounts for a good portion of the tower's cost. Fantastic place!! I have been coming here for years, but since I do not live downtown, I do not get there as much as I would like. Five stars every time for the food, but this time it was even better because of the bartenders. Very friendly people who went the extra mile to make it a pleasant experience when they found out that it was my birthday. they also talk to us quite a bit about the construction that was going on outside of the restaurant and we not only enjoyed it but learned a lot. The food was exceptional as it always is at this restaurant. One thing I also give this place credit for is they are one of the few places that still has iron city on draft. You can get icy light at a lot of places, but getting iron city on draft is difficult to find. I do not know why that is, but I give the oyster House credit for not losing site of the parts of its offerings that have always made it a great place to eat. read more

I do not believe that I have ever been here before, but the person that I was with had and recommended it, so we decided to go. It was very crowded for about noon on a Saturday, but that means the food is good! Our waiter, Todd, told us it was not even that crowded for their standards; sometimes they apparently have a line out of the door. I had the lobster sandwich with French fries to eat. The lobster was fresh and flavorful. The roll was nicely warmed and buttered. The fries were okay - some were a bit skinny and oily, but others were much better. I also had a few bites of salad that the person that I was with had as an appetizer: very fresh lettuce and good dressing. Our waiter Todd was very nice and served us at a good speed.
