Oxomoco absolutely deserves the Came here with friends last night and everything from the service to the food was fantastic. I loved the calming, modern decor and the noise level was a bit too high at times, but manageable. I loved every cocktail we tried: guava margarita, Alma de dos tierras, espíritu del otoño, último adiós Every dish we tried was fresh and delicious: The chips with the variety of salsas and heat levels was a fun game of spice roulette. I loved the use of fresh herbs on the scallop aguachile. The tuna tartare tostada was uniquely prepared and had great flavor. Finally, the taco árabe was phenomenal and the perfect end to the meal. I've been wanting to come here for sometime, and glad I finally did. The ambiance is one in which you can have a birthday dinner, date night, or just catch up with friends - it's spacious but also intimate. We ordered several small plates including the soya marinated tuna tostada, maitake Arabella, and taco arabe, and one large dish which was the half roasted chicken. While it was recommended we order 4-5 small plates for two people, the amount of dishes we ordered felt like too many for two people and we were stuffed. All the food was delicious and well seasoned- the flavor definitely came from the seasoning more than the actual ingredients. The tortillas seemed fresh made and were light and airy. Of all the dishes, the soya marinated tuna tostada was likely our favorite. Our server was also nice and came by to check on us a few times. I found myself at Oxomoco for an early dinner and to catch up with my brothers. One of them works in Brooklyn, and since we were off we decided to make the drive out there to meet him. The reviews and pics looked great, so I was looking forward to checking this Michelin-starred establishment out. I really like the aesthetics of Oxomoco. The dining room is a decent size - with an outdoor area immediately upon entry and the main dining room shortly after that. The space is bright with a mostly white color scheme; the skylights bring in a good amount of natural light and the bar provides an attractive focal point. We started with drinks - I went simple and ordered a margarita. It was pretty good but nothing too outstanding. The food is all meant to be shared, arranged in a single section on the menu with the plate size increasing as you continue reading. Our server recommended two to three dishes each - so we decided on 6 total of varying sizes. We ultimately decided on the peekytoe crab tostada, guacamole, scallop and hiramasa aguachile, two tacos: shrimp and arabe, and the pork carintas. Everything was really delicious - it's hard to choose my favorites because the dishes were so strong, but I'll try. The arabe tacos and pork carnitas were my favorites - the meats were tender and paired with a lot of complements to enhance the overall dishes. The aguachile and guac were also standouts - super fresh and the chips served with each were substantial. The shrimp tacos and crab tostada were the weaker dishes IMO, but still better than average. For dessert, we got something that I unfortunately do not remember the name of - but it was layered with a brownie, a thick custard product, and ice cream. Whatever the name, it was delicious and the perfect finisher to our meal. Service was good - everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. They also did a great job describing each dish as it was served which really enhanced the experience. Sadly I think they may have removed this from the menu since - Artichoke Tacos (4.5/5) - These were crispy & flavorful - Pineapple Cocktail (4.5/5) - Didn't catch the name, but the pineapple cocktail I had was refreshing. A fantastic spot for creative Mexican food with plenty of veggie options. Had to plan early to get a reservation on weekend night but was perfect for a special meal. The staff was super friendly, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food hit all the right notes for a summer evening. 4.5 On a whim, we decided to see if we can get a table at Oxomoco. Walking in around 7:30 on a Saturday night, we were able to score 2 seats at the bar. The vibe is relaxed, but yet elegant and the staff is just lovely. Looking at the menu, it was smaller and more seafood heavy than we expected. Little did we know at the time, they had a fire recently that affected their cooking ventilation system so they had to pare down the menu because of it. With that said, I was not left wanting for anything. The Margarita was well made, but I wouldn't call it the best I've had. We started off with the guacamole. A largish bowl, served with 4 round fried blue tortillas. Topped with cilantro, cherry tomato compote and queso fresco, the guacamole was super creamy, but warning very spicy. It was delicious, but I did wish it was a bit more mild in the spice area. For our entree, the Conchinita Pibil Platter was perfect for sharing. It is presented as a make your own taco bar. Served with a nice portion of stewed pork, black beans, blue corn tortillas, cherry tomatoes and pickled red onions, chicharons and a habanero salsa. It was all incredible. When I say I have never had pork, so expertly cooked and seasoned, it just melted in your mouth and the flavors were hitting all the marks. Building a taco with all the items offered was just an explosion of flavor and it was amazing. We were still talking about how good it was on our walk back to the car. Have been here twice over the years and absolutely loved it - though I will say a few things have been cycled out of the menu though I imagine the new additions are just as delightful. I would highly recommend the caesar salad as the lettuce is perfectly crunchy, the dressing tart and punchy, and the crumbs on top add just the right texture. The tuna tostada and pollo a las brazas are both great. I've had two different tlayudas - both great though not sure which they have available now. Only 1 dish was on the spicier side (swordfish tacos), otherwise it was very balanced. The cocktails are also creative and not too sweet. My friend and I came here for brunch - I didn't realize their brunch menu is about half the size of their dinner menu. Being a pescatarian, there were limited options, as the only items on the menu were tuna tostada and vegetarian items. This is it. By far some of the best Mexican food I've had in the city. The food is no joke and they have a Michelin star, which is so impressive coupled with the fact that it isn't exorbitantly expensive! I was able to make a reservation for brunch. While the menu was a bit smaller than I expected, every single thing we ordered was so flavorful and delicious. We tried the: Caesar salad (which was no typical salad. Served on halved romaines that were GRILLED and perfectly smoky and aromatic with freshly grated cotija), the chilaquiles which were the best I've had and very flavorful, and the arrechera tacos which had a surprising chili crunch topping added to it and featured the most perfectly cooked steak. We were perfectly sated and happy after trying this spot. The service was also attentive and friendly, and the space is beautiful with white washed walls, skylights, and faux foliage hanging from the ceiling. Bright and perfect for a sunny Saturday brunch. They service is based on the costumers appearance, I have gone in different ways to prove myself and yes if you look from the neighborhood the service is very poor, if the server looks at you and you appearance is business or above the service attitude changes significantly. I've walked past Oxomoco many times before finally deciding to make a reservation. I arrived on a Sunday evening right when they opened, and to my surprise, there was already a line outside. The restaurant is small and cozy, with a mix of tables, bar seating, and a chef's counter. Unfortunately, I didn't find the staff particularly welcoming. One staff member, in particular, seemed like he wasn't enjoying his job, which was a bit off-putting. Now, onto the food! Each taco order includes two tacos. I'll preface this by saying I eat a lot, and despite being warned about over-ordering, I went all in--so here's the rundown: * Chips and Salsa: A must-order! The chips were freshly made, incredibly crunchy, and perfectly salted. The variety of salsas and sauces was impressive, and every single one was absolutely delicious. * Oxomoco Guacamole: A classic and well-executed dish. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, made with whole heirloom cherry tomatoes and served with a side of chips. * Mushroom Tlayuda: Skip this one. It's essentially a thin-crust mushroom pizza with red sauce, but the flavors didn't work well together in my opinion. * Coctel de Mariscos: This is similar to ceviche and had a tasty, flavorful sauce. However, the portions were small, with the seafood cut into bite-sized pieces. * Swordfish Tacos: Soft, tender, and cooked to perfection. A solid choice. * Shrimp Tacos (Special): Outstanding! Five stars, top to bottom, even with a more "limited" menu thanks to the ongoing work from their kitchen fire. Favorite bites: crab tostada, beet tostada, carnitas, mushroom taco, flourless chocolate cake I thought the tuna tostada with caviar ($48 ) WAS good but not as good as it needs to be at the price tag, and not better than any of the above bites. Also tried the popcorn and tacos arabes, and the sesame dessert. They have a kids plate with quesadillas, black beans, and avocado too. From the moment you enter the Michelin Starred Oxomoco the wood-fired grill catches your eye. But it's not just for display, the drum of burning embers shapes the entire profile of the menu. We started with the Kampachi Aguachile - crisp, fresh, brightly acidic and a spice level that was well balanced without being overwhelming. For the main courses we went with the Wagyu Beef Cheeks and the Catch of the Day Tacos. The depth of flavor on the Wagyu Beef Cheeks was out of this world complex - you could taste just how long-cooked and richly textured the boldly seasoned beef was. The Catch of the Day was Sea Bass which had a beautifully charred crust that was again intensely bold from a seasoning aspect. The Oaxacan Chocolate Cake was the perfect ending to the meal. The dense, almost pudding-like cake pair expertly with the coffee ice cream, cajeta and goat milk caramel. Food: -Oxomoco guacamole: Can't go wrong with this as an appetizer and it was nice and flavorful and smooth. -Punta verde Caesar: Fun take on a Caesar salad. It's served on a chunk of romaine (rather than cut up into smaller pieces) and generously coated in salad dressing. I loved the cotija masa crunch since it added a nice crispy texture. -Lamb barbacoa tacos: Delicious tacos with lamb that was well cooked. -Soya marinated tuna tostada: I was looking forward to this the most and it did not disappoint. One of my favorite dishes. The tuna was so fresh and full of flavor. A bit on the saltier side though but still good -Pollo a las brazas: Another one of my favorite dishes. The chicken was juicy and it was served with crispy rice on the side which was also delicious. Also comes with tortillas and was a generous portion for sharing. The servers were friendly and we didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out. They had both indoor and outdoor dining, but the outdoor spots were heated which was nice. Food was amazing to say the least. The tacos were surprising. I never thought tacos could have such a high ceiling, but I was pleasantly surprised. Think of the best tacos you've ever had, you can expect these to be two tiers above that. Disclaimer, I only have the flank steak and lamb barbacoa tacos. The Oxomoco guac was also delicious. And lastly the tuna tostada was also incredible. They make their own version of a chili crisp sauce and slather the tostada and the steak taco in it. I got a reservation at 11 AM on a Saturday morning and was pleased to see how beautiful the inside of the restaurant was. The service was good and the menu was plentiful with different tasty options. I came in for a quick lunch and tried their version of the Caesar salad along with the frozen margarita with cantaloupe. Their take on the Caesar salad is unique for sure!
