Been here many, many times for the 2 for 1 happy hour. Really great deal in midtown! Available all weekdays (which includes Friday) until 7 PM. Fun casual bar which always seems to have a place to sit, but also is relatively lively. The highlight for sure (outside of the happy hour) is the back patio on the second floor. An awesome place to grab some drinks during the warmer months. Also a lot of people seem to only go for drinks but their food is actually pretty good. The Wings are top notch. Although one word of warning, their hot wings are really goddamn hot. I can eat pretty spicy foods but stick to the medium Wings here. I'll continue to come back to this place ! read more

I love Overlook. The staff is like family, the prices are right and the food is good. Best chicken fingers, I have every had - they're almost like a mini milanese. Horrible customer service. I threw a private NYE party here (for 70+ people) and the owners lied to us and went back on their word multiple times. I will never return to this bar or recommend it to anyone. The two owners, Mark and Pat, do NOT communicate with each other at all. We worked with Mark for the month prior to the event - arranging all of the specifics. The day before and day of the event he was nowhere to be found. For the first time we had to work with Pat. All of a sudden everything that we had discussed for the event - like the fact that they had promised us TOP SHELF open bar - was changed. My friends have recently decided that darts rule. Darts all day and darts all night. Darts at their homes, darts in my home (What? I don't even have a dart board...), darts on Saturday afternoons when it's nice and when it's not, darts on the holidays when the bars are packed, and darts when there isn't another patron around to be hit. In town for a black tie wedding was no exception- we had to play darts before putting on the duds. Located in Midtown, where we inevitably end up staying each time because every event we fly to New York for rarely seems to be outside the area, it's a quick walk from most of the big hotels, yet has a cozy, off-the-path vibe to it. Nearly impossible for E 44th, but they did it. It was in Overlook that we discovered we could not only play darts until our arms fell off, but that we could do it in the comfort of a Chicago Bears bar. Hell. Yes. Da Bears, coupled with... did I mention darts at some point?, yes with darts, a free charging station for every cellular device on the market since 2007, inexpensive prices, and a nice, fun bartender who kept us company, it was the perfect spot to spend a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon. Nicely done, Overlook. I hope you beat the hell out of Kettle of Fish in Bar Wars or whatever competition bars get into. read more

This is a great big bar and restaurant. I know it mainly as a lunch spot, and it's a great choice when you want to get out of the frantic midday Midtown feeding frenzy. Though it's located in a bustling neighborhood, Overlook feels like it's a bit of a hideaway. Part of the reason is that many of the buildings on the block have been torn down and not yet replaced. Outlook stands defiantly against the destruction like a nail. That makes it seem proud; the fact that the neon sign outside is half burned out and now reads only "look" gives an opposite effect. Inside, Outlook is agreeably rundown. The front looks like a fun dive bar, and there's a dining area in the back of the front floor. There are bars upstairs too and even a roofdeck, but I got a sense that those are being disrupted by the construction now going on all around the place. The dining room has lots of TVs everywhere, turned to CNN and sports in the day. There are even TVs in each of the booths along the wall. God forbid, if there were ever a horrible news story that you couldn't tear yourself away from but you needed a meal or a pint, this would be the place to go. One of my favorite things about the Overlook is the murals that line some of the walls. The menu tells the story about them: earlier in its long history, the bar was a hangout for cartoonists who belonged to the National Cartoonists Society. Much like taggers, they threw up their creations on the walls, presumable for free food and drink. This seems to have happened quite awhile ago. There are recognizable characters from MAD Magazine, Marvel Comics, and daily strips like Mary Worth, plus caricatures of Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, and others you might not recognize. Sadly, the murals aren't in very good condition. It's especially unfortunate that white paint is blotting out parts of Fred Flintstone's face. The menu itself is somewhere between bar food and a diner, and the burgers and salads I've had there are top notch. The draft beer selection is wide, and the staff is very knowledgeable about it. This is a low-key place from an era of Manhattan that seems to be receding, and I'm happy that it's becoming something of a standby for me. read more

Finally, a cheap happy hour near Grand Central! All kinds of daily specials including $3 margaritas and 2 for 1 drinks. The buffalo chicken wings are also quite tasty, but overall the menu seems a bit pricey for bar food. The atmosphere is nothing to brag about, and if you sit at a table, you might need a translator for the waitress. When it comes down to it, this place is really all about happy hour deals. Because, let's face it, sometimes you need that post-work cocktail ASAP. And sometimes you need 2 for the price of 1. read more

Relatively clean bathrooms, Game 1 of the Knicks-Celtics series playing on one of many screens, and it's named after a character in one of my favorite Stephen King novels. Those are the good points. The demerits? Everything else. I had the misfortune of ordering a glass of Chimay from the tap. Why do I say "misfortune?" Because it was twelve dollars! I realize it's Palm Sunday, and we're in the most expensive, touristy part of Manhattan, and that fuel prices and the CPI are completely out of whack, but unless a Belgian monk brewed that beer in front me-and the Pope gave me an indulgence to commit any sin I wanted to for the next 24 hours-there is no rational explanation for charging 12 bucks for a beer. If no publicity is bad publicity, then I'm sure the owner of this bar will be delighted with this review. My advice to the rest of you: avoid the Overlook at all costs. It's a horror show. read more

I was planning my birthday and decided on Overlook after going there the previous weekend. I emailed back and forth with the owner about reserving the room upstairs for my party of roughly 40 people. His response was "I just need your credit card number,not to be charged,just to hold your reservation. Once I recieve your credit card number ,I will reserve the room upstairs for your party, this Sat @ 9pm." He called me as per my request (I did not want to email my credit card information) and everything was set...OR SO I THOUGHT. When I arrived, they had given the room to someone else!! When you're celebrating an event, especially a birthday, and you invite several people, you want the event to go smoothly. This did not go smoothly. I ended up in tears and I have yet to hear anything from the owner of the bar. The bartenders were nice and I ended up having a great time with my friends. I would give a higher rating but when the room you reserve for your birthday is given to someone else - you get 2 stars. read more

Overlook was AWESOME. I'm from Chicago and am so glad we stumbled upon Overlook for Sunday's Bears home opener versus the Packers. Their slogan "win or lose, we still booze" rang true - I absolutely needed a nap after the game! We arrived shortly after opening and the bar was already packed. We were seated "family style" sharing a table with a few others, who I had said we'd make friends with, but they didn't seem interested in making friends. We were comfortable the whole game, and our server was great with keeping the buckets of beer coming. The wings were also fantastic! They were large and meaty. I ordered medium sauce which had the perfect amount of spice. The fries are fresh-cut and they have several different dipping sauces available (I went with horseradish, which may seem weird, but was delicious.) If I lived in New York, I'd be here ever Sunday during football season. read more

First time coming to the Overlook and let me tell you... I was totally blown away by how much fun this place is! As you walk in, the Overlook looks to be like any other sports bar in the city...but don't let that fool you, it is far more than the others. For starters... 1) The Food Friggin' amazing and reasonably priced! I was pleasantly impressed with devouring a juicy cheeseburger with deliciously seasoned fries. As a burger lover, the Overlook has one of the better burgers in town and I've tried them all.... Off the charts! 2) The Service New York City can be rough place...but when you have a bartender like Kevin and a waitress like Tai taking care of you with your every alcoholic need... you won't want to go anywhere else! Nothing impresses me more than a staff looking to make sure you have everything you need to having a good time! 3) The Atmosphere Not easy to offer a little bit of everything for everyone.... - a sports bar on the 1st floor - Live music and an outdoor patio on the second floor.. all conveniently found in midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks away from Grand Central Station. Went to a friend's happy hour with her co-workers and was initially turned off by the decor and lack of space...HOWEVER when we went upstairs they had a cozy little rooftop area and also the BOGO HH special. I ordered a Whiskey ginger and the bartender upstairs hooked it up with Jack Daniels, filling it 3/4 of the pint and the rest ginger ale. Was impressed by his generosity and the drink was well worth it. Not the best bar in the area but would come back for the sole purpose of the Happy hour special. read more

How did I not know about this place? I used to work around here for 3+ years and I never went here. I'm born and raised in Chicago. So cool to find a Chicago Bears bar. I noticed they don't have a Cubs or White Sox flag. Good idea to focus on the things that unite Chicagoans instead of those that divide. :) Onto the food. I got a burger. Ordered it medium and it arrived medium. This crazy girl in our party ordered hers rare. If I was a restaurant, I would not serve a rare burger unless I 1) didn't know any better or 2) am pretty confident in the quality of my meat. I sure hope it's the latter. In any case, my burger was pretty good. Surprisingly good. I guess I don't expect a lot when I go to a random bar. The patty on their burger was pretty spherical (not flat like your typical burger patty), so that made it a bit messy to eat but someone at the table was saying that it gets cooked better that way? I don't know. It was good. I would go back just for the burger. Yes there was construction noise which sucks. It must really suck for the owners of Overlook. It's not like they can tell the construction guys to stop work so their customers aren't annoyed. I didn't hold it against them. read more

Usually, I am really upset when I find out that any event is taking place in Midtown, in particular, Midtown East. To me, it's where the fake IDs of the intern world unite. Overlook is a welcome exception to this. It's casual chic, great eats and fantastic drinks. Plus, the crowd is amazing filled with young (but not too young) professionals ready to relax after a hard day at the office. Things that I really loved: 1. Delicious fries-give you a lot and have a lot of dipping sauces to try-the horseradish mayo one is delish! 2. Outdoor area with a huge tv - watching the Yankees al fresco? Huge plus. 3. Tvs are everywhere so no trying to sneak a peak of the score between two huge men which defy the laws of gravity. 4. Staff is friendly - waitress was never too far away and didn't have an attitude like asking her for more water was out of her job description. 5. Call ahead for an event and they are very accommodating-they put aside an area for a friends birthday and it was seamlessly organized and perfect for the occasion. 6. Can eat upstairs and watch a game and then move downstairs to dance the rest of the night away (or the calories from those fries). Definitely a great after-work happy hour or drinks place. Came here for the first fall happy hour back in the city with friends. What a hidden lil gem on the east side! First floor offers full bar and table seating with food service. 2nd fl offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Outside offers a patio deck w/ large projections screen, perfect for watching the games. I'll be back to enjoy the outdoor space while the weather is still nice! read more

This place is probably really great. It's hard to judge, since I went the night of the UCONN men's playoff game, and the place was a madhouse. They had a deal which none of their staff was fully informed of (it was $30 for unlimited miller/yuengling, wings, and pigs in a blanket) and kept changing prices/what was included. We originally had this guy as our server who was so utterly lost that I thought he might've just been someone they dragged in off the street to serve us. He gave us each our bills to sign, but not tip on, to give back before or after our meal... I don't know, however confusing THAT sounds, multiply it by 10. It then took 30min to get our first beers. After that, however, another waitress took over, and she was amazing. I was glad she was there to take over, because the guy had basically told us to f*ck off with 5min left in the game (he told us there was "no way" he was getting us another beer") but she quickly brought another round for the table. Other than that, fries were good, wings were not, and the pigs in a blanket were decent but ran out too quickly. I'll be back to check it out on a more "typical" night for sure. read more

Overlook is a great place for many reasons. Sure youd think its an american bar. Bar should be good enough but no. Overlook is like Cheers. Once you go everyone will know your name. Overlook is a cool chill spot with tv's every where and good music playing. They have Kareoke on Tuesday nights. Happy Hour is from 2 to 6. 2 for 1. Can't beat that. They also have a really good bar food menu. The fried raviolis are good and so are the their sliders. The wait staff and owners are very friendly. They are very attentive to their customers needs. I enjoy Overlook very much. I go there often with coworkers as our office is right across the street. Good place to hang with friends, eat dinner or watch a game. This is definetly one of the better bars I been to in the city. read more

One of my favorite bars in the city. They have great service, good drink specials and fun music. It is across from my work and I love it there. The owners are great and make you feel at home. I took a friend there that just moved to the neighborhood and the owner bought over 2 free drinks and said "Welcome to the neighborhood"...now that is what I call a great place! Food was flat out disgusting. Left early to get sick. Not sure what the "turkey" burger was made from. The texture seemed to be a mix of tofu and cat food. I was so hungry I ate it anyway-regretably. Artichoke dip seemed out of a jar. Nachos were out of a bag with a little bit of some sort of meat. Probably what the turkey burger was made from except with taco seasoning. My friend ordered a chicken wrap and took one bite and didn't finish. My other friend ordered what we think was breaded chicken. They were like pieces of rubber fried in gravel. Rooftop and entire restaurant was empty which was a bad sign from get go. They can't blame our waitress because she was the only good thing about the place. BTW, I work in NYC so know a little about food and competition to stay in business in this town. Will not bother to go here again. read more

The negative comments about there being tv's in every booth weren't favorable but there is a positive here, somewhere to plug your phone in to charge! We were carded going in - not sure how that plays out if you are with minors having some kibbles but the door man was quite nice. The cartoon wall is pretty impressive if you actually remember cartoon strips (showing my age). We decided to go with an array of apps and drinks. The waitress was super nice and attentive! We ordered the wings, which were meaty and cooked perfectly - not soggy, tex-mex quesadilla, that was FULL and filling and a side of fries. The three of us DEVOURED ALL OF IT! One was better than the next. The fries were crunchy on the outside but fluffy on the inside sticks of yumminess! The dipping sauce was like crack - I couldn't get enough of it. The music was super loud otherwise we would have stayed for dinner. Two apps, a huge side of fries, 2G&T's, 4 margarita's and it was less than $70. Wasn't expensive considering it's NYC. Don't "overlook" this place... You see that I just blew this review up with a killer homonym. A must for Bears games. Good MC/DJ during the commercials, they play "Bear Down," and some dude even brought an Aaron Rogers jersey to wipe your feet on when you enter. Downstairs gets packed during the game upstairs fills up to but if the weather is nice, upstairs is the place to be. It's like a covered outdoor thing going on up there. Met a group of guy friends here on the roof deck. They arrived early (5pm) and secured a long table which could fit 6 to 8 guys, as our party grew. The prices at this place aren't great, but they're reasonable, and our waitress was very prompt and friendly in getting our drinks. Cool, mixed bag crowd. Mostly casually dressed, or business casual. One possible downside for some people is that you are allowed to smoke. They do have 2 LCD projectors that project sports games, which is also cool, after the sun goes down. Overall a good place to hang with friends. Looks like the bar downstairs has a pool table, but looked kind of dead by the time we rolled out of there around midnight. Overlook is great for a happy hour spot but, probabley not the best place for a Saturday night. The Afterwork crew that shows up at Overlook is pretty fun but, it can get very crowded on Thursdays. I have to agree with Chip- You really can't beat 2-1 happy hour deal that runs from 5-7pm. Overall, The staff is really cool and nice. The outside deck is awesome for watching games. Another place that is popular for after work drinks--and i cant really understand why! downstairs is just a bar. nothing fancy. upstairs is where we can usually find enough room for a crowd, but the music is so loud you can't hear anyone! that, plus the teenie-tiny bar up there is so busy you'll be waiting in line for a while. the outside space is weird, tiny and weird. the tented area is ALWAYS full, so i cant really speak to that. A better than average sports bar, with a nice owner and spotty service, decent food (amazing fries!), and a small patio with large projector screens. Apparently, this is a Syracuse bar and that is pretty much all they play during the 'Cuse games, unless you speak up and ask for something else. The Overlook is a major finance/banker happy hour spot, so just keep that in mind during those typical hours. read more

So an unfortunate night led to an unhappy ending to my evening at Overlook but I have to give a huge THANKS to the owners for giving me great personal time and service helping me with the issues that happened that night. They were very responsive and helpful in resolving a credit card issue I had. Situation: Left my credit card with the waiter, next day went to go get it and they told me they didn't have it. Then the day after I found $400+ charged to my account. So as furious as I called the owner again (after I left a HATE yelp review) and he knew exactly who I was. The REVIEWS WORK! But anyway he was very kind in researching the situation and offered a refund my card with the over charge that I received. Jeff, an owner, has given complete attention and detail to this situation! I have to give complete THANKS! to them for helping me. Unfortunately, it looks like the criminal will get away with identity fraud yet again but the OVERLOOK put out a lot of effort to solve this situation and I am very grateful. In regards to the bar itself, I have only had a few actual outings at this restaurant due to a few mishaps with going there for the Oklahoma Sooner football games but as the OU alumni bar I know they put out a lot of effort to make it a good OU experience. The beer specials are reasonable especially for NYC. Wasn't completely impressed with the bloody mary's. OVERALL: You are in good company at this bar. It's a great place to watch an OU games just be sure to get their EARLY to secure a seat! NYC is crawling with SOONER FANS! BOOMER! read more

I came here twice for happy hour. It's in a great location, only a few blocks from Grand Central. The service is good. The food as bar food, is VERY good. I got a chicken sandwich which was filled with flavor and very filling. There are great drink specials and they are made pretty strong. Their drink specials for happy hour during the week are impressive ( 2 for 1 until 6pm, after 6, $5 Pinnacle drinks) and you drink for Free from 5-8 on your "name day." The roof top bar has a very nice vibe but it got very smokey. It was crowded but not too crowded. The inside has a pretty funky but nice decor. The music was just awesome- all of our favorite 80s and 90s, some classics and modern stuff but almost every time a song came on, everyone recognized it and got very excited. I definitely recommend this place and will most likely be returning. read more

Are you from Chicago? This is your bar. Great place to come for Cubs/ Bulls/ Blackhawk games. They have appropriate named special menu items like the Jay Cutler Chicken Sandwich, the Briggs Burger etc. I personally like the deep fried ravioli as an appetizer. They also have buckets of Coors light beers. During games, they will have raffle prizes if you wear the right colors. And if you wear the gear of an opposing team, you will gain the title of A hole of the day, which they will announce over the mike. I love the friendly bartenders here too. I once sat at the bar, and ordered a chicken sandwich, which I found dry. The bartender asked me if I disliked it, and didn't even charge me for it. Overlook is right across the street from where i work. It has great old illustrations along the wall. Great open deck upstairs. But it can become crowded when the weather is warm. But, i expect that to happen at any bar. Place is kind of like a frat house after work. Since all the business men like to go here after work for their happy hour. Oh yeah, their happy hour is from 2-6pm. The earliest happy hour schedule i've seen in manhattan. That's one thing I'm not a great fan of. but anyway... Burgers are not their usual size burgers that you get at a fast food joint. Their burgers are small, but fills you up like crazy. It's probably the size of a white castle burger, or maybe a tad bigger. But believe me, you will be stuffed and it is absolutely delish! Try their blue cheese burger :). Their fries is always off the hook. Nice and brown, and crispy. And gives you A LOT. It's what I look forward to every time i go there. And their dipping sauce comes in varieties: chiptole, cheese, honey mustard, and on and on. read more
