Great little dive-bar kind of place. I did not have any of the food, just drinks with a group of about 6-7 people. Seems like a very local vibe to it. They have an all-day Happy Hour, so prices are reasonable, especially for the city. Bartender was quick but I felt bad for her, it looked like they could have totally used another person to help get drinks out. She was going really fast, but there was a pretty good demand, and it didn't seem fair to her. The music did get a little loud, which meant that the people have to get a little loud and then they turned up the music aaaaand vicious cycle. But I have to say that I could see myself going here often if I lived in the area. I would like to go back on my next trip and try the food. Hopefully it's as good as the drinks and the specials. She has a great smile and demeanor and we enjoyed talking to her. The place has only been open for like 3 weeks since the Covid pandemic and we are glad it survived. I like the Black Sheep -except when they play music too loud, so you can't speak. But I also liked the food for some time. Not so much now. Expensive burger, but this is the third time it came out dry and well done , when I asked for medium rare. I think they have changed the fast-order cook. And that has not been good. Showed this to the bartender (again) and no one offered to correct it. At $20 for a burger and fries, I should enjoy it. I won't recommend eating here. But drinking is another story. Good vibe for Murray Hill and decent drinks. Don't expect a fancy cocktail and you're all set. read more

Went here for afterwork and it was a nice vibe. Drinks were good and even the finger foods like wings, chicken tenders, and fries were really good. Staff and service were really nice and very generous towards my colleagues and myself. This was a nice place to have good drinks and good food. A unique set of dishes that all comes together. You'll be hard pressed to find any of the dishes on this menu anywhere else. They are unique and delicious. You may have heard about the salmon skin tacos and it did not disappoint. Duck confit was full of flavors and capping it off with the crème brûlées was satisfying indeed. Started going here during football season in an attempt to try out a lot of new bars in the area. Unfortunately I now just keep going back here! It has the wonderful feel of a mom and pop bar where there are regulars and great service. Personally, I love their buffalo wings. They fall off the bone but have the perfect amount of crunch. Drink specials are decent but prices aren't bad to start with. My only complaint was that I had to ask questions about the menu when I was gluten and dairy free and they could not tell me if their wings were either. In hindsight I'm pretty sure there is gluten in them to get that great crunch but they had told me they didn't think there was. There's only one waitress, Maria, working all the tables, so it's very slow, but she holds it down. This place is your normal walk in, no judgement type of bar. People sit on stools by the bar and just drink. Nothing fancy, nothing fantastic. However, this place is never dull. I am not sure what the deal is but the people that hang there are so much fun! You can just sit there have a STRONG drink and something is happening. The bartender (a dear friend) is so friendly and is doing a million things at the same time while listening to everyone's stories, problems, and etc. You will be underwhelmed or even disappointed at first when you walk in because it just looks like a normal bar. You're right, that is what it is, but the drinks are cheap and strong and the people are so nice. Something we cannot say about most people in NYC. One minute you are meeting a veteran with interesting traveling stories and the next you are being offered pizza from a guy that had extra pizza from the pizzeria he worked at. On a solo night where you don't feel like summoning a friend, but want to grab a drink with some company, just try it out. Make some new friends and have a strong drink! read more

I think 3 stars is fair. Had a group in here for a team thanksgiving lunch. Table service was pretty crappy. Took ages to get anything and that includes drinks and food. Decent pub fare. I had the Shepard's pie, that I feel was average at best and overpriced. Colleague had the vodka pasta which I think was pretty good and the burgers went down well. This is a great no frills local spot. It's Irish owned and has classic American Irish pub fare. The food is consistently decent (although the French onion soup is definitely too salty for me) The bartenders are all amazing and I've quickly made friends with most of them. My favorite bar in Midtown. It's Irish, but (of course) the cooks are Mexican. They sure know how to make Chicken Pot and Shepherd's Pie! Different specials every day... with the fish usually being the best. The floor staff is all Irish and friendlier than a load of puppies. The music is usually not too loud (though when there's a DJ and you don't like the music, it may be time to move on). The best part is the welcoming low-key ambiance of the place. Black Sheep is a decent neighborhood pub in Tudor City. Only an OK, standard InBev beer selection (every bar in this city can now boast of Goose Island taps, with its recent acquisition). While the usual Murray Hill/Turtle Bay characters populate the booths, it does have a better neighborhood feel than some places above and below. If you want a lighter dose of Joshua Tree ridiculousness, without the shenanigans but with the same solid music, you can do worse. read more

I will never go back. Short story - staff doesn't run the place, the regulars do. Went for a weeknight dinner and drinks. Granted it was first round basketball playoffs Knicks v Celtics so it was full. The girl and I sat at a four top as that was all that was available. Bench seating one side, no chairs on the other. As our waitress watched, a group of older regular guys pulled up chairs to our table and set down their drinks. We had ordered dinner so I thought that was not acceptable but ok. Then one of them ordered dinner and the waitress served it to him on our table while we were having ours. It is not ok for the staff to allow others to horn in on your table and most definitely not ok to then serve them dinner at it. I was shocked and furious. Food - ok, nothing special. Burgers definitely are from frozen patties and I would steer clear. Shepard's Pie was my go to but it is just ok. Staff clueless and old enough to know better. Bartenders spend a lot of time chatting with regulars and god forbid you are in a hurry to get your check because they won't notice you waiving at them even if you are sitting at the bar. Probably one of the worst bars in Murray hill with the worst service ever. We were there on a Saturday and the bartender gave us a dirty look. When taking our order she asked us for our ID which was fine. She took our ids and went to the back somewhere to "scan" them. Then she returned and said to my friend "Your ID doesn't scan". That has got to be the biggest lie because she's been to this bar before. She's 28 years old and was accused of having a fake id. She just needs to admit that she didn't like us at all and that's why she refused to serve us. We walked to another bar and asked the bouncer to scan her card and it was totally legit! We all live in this neighborhood and we have a ton of friends that live in the same building and it's a rotten shame that we won't be returning because of this woman. I will tell everyone that I know in this neighborhood to never come here. Bring back the old bartender and we can talk. read more

My wife and I just moved into the neighborhood and we were looking for a neighborhood pub to go to....and this one will be it!!!! We had an AMAZING time. The food also surprisingly good. We got a burger and some buffalo chicken wings. (The buffalo sauce is super spicy, be warned!) Our bartender Emma was really funny and cute, and in a good mood despite a really annoying group in the back that kept bombarding her with orders Irish car bombs. She was accommodating our request to watch the Olympics and made great drinks. We stayed there pretty late - almost 3 am. Great experience. Will be going back. read more

The Black Sheep is a standard pub. That's it. That's all there is to it. There's a bar and bar food. It's a little grimey looking inside but it fits the whole ambiance. The menu is actually pretty large for a bar with a big selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and finger foods. I had the Dubliner salad and chicken fingers and both were fine, as expected. The bartender was excellent and was really attentive given that she was the only one working the bar and waitressing at the same time. The one thing that deserves a shoutout is the playlist. 90's music!!! read more

9/16 after 8pm was the worst service I've ever seen from this place. Been going there for 10 years. I will never return again. The bartender has the worst Attitude I've ever seen. She was rude. She didn't care about any of us on the other side of the bar. All she wanted to do is text. When I asked for a drink... she told me she would when she got around to it. I thought she was joking.
