We were in the area but arriving the same day left us no other options to look for other venues to watch futbol. Thank god for yelp and google. Both places this bar came highly rated. They weren't wrong. Food was tasty and service was above average. Clean in general and I highly appreciate their bathroom cleanliness. The male server was attentive and polite. ( wow!) we drank and ate and watch the game and I'd say the crowd was diverse., young and old and the in between. The tv screen was not large by any means but the proximity to our hotel and the amazing experience in general is no joke. Thank you! read more

Came here after striking out at a few bars near MSG because the lines were too long, it was standing room only, or there was a $20 cover charge. Luckily, my friend and I arrived just in time to grab a table upstairs. We started with the chicken nachos, which were alright, and the buffalo wings, which were solid but arrived cold because our order got lost. They were busy, so I understand. I eventually ordered the French dip, which was just okay. I would highly recommend getting the burger over the French dip.. you're welcome. The best part of the experience was the atmosphere. The place was packed with Knicks fans celebrating the win. What a win. I would recommend this spot if you're looking for a place to catch the game, especially if you're in the mood for wings and burgers. read more

Stopped in on a Friday evening, not really busy. Service was a bit spotty ans chaotic. Food was definitely not irish lol but it wasnt bad.

Stopped in for a quick drink on a Saturday at around 6 PM, while waiting for our dinner reservation next door. Feel pretty clean for an NYC Irish pub, and it looked like a lot of people were ordering food there. I had a French Martini, which had a bit too much pineapple juice in it for my taste. But it's what you'd expect from a typical Irish pub. Don't expect expertly crafted cocktails, but do expect friendly service, which is what we got. They were also quick and attentive so what can you really complain about? I would have gotten a Guinness but we were about to have AYCE Japanese BBQ, so I didn't want to fill up on that. The food menu looked pretty good too, so I wouldn't mind coming back for a pint and some fish and chips or bangers and mash, the next time the mood strikes. read more

Playwright Irish Pub - Irish Near Me - New York, New York

Always the best when I come here!! Mazum is the best!! Great service and great music!!!

I needed a drink at 3am and I'm so glad Playwright Irish Pub was open and served until 3:30am. They had a good blend of beer on tap and mixed drinks. Playwright had good vibe music and the place was relatively clean for a bar. The bartender was quick to take our order, make our drinks, and close the tab. The recommended cocktails went well together. We tried the French Martini and the Big Apple Martini. The people were descent and there was no concern at the witching hour. read more

A very decent midtown sports bar. Lots of TVs and seating. Big wooden bar. Came here on a Saturday late afternoon and was able to grab some seats by the window. The bar was pretty busy, they had the Yankee game on which was appreciated. I ordered a Tito's and soda and the bartender had a heavy hand - my favorite kind of bartender. While we were here there was a Stella promotion going on where the folks here gave us a free Stella in a plastic FIFA cup, a FIFA Stella stress ball, and an engraved Stella glass, so my day was pretty much made. At some point someone in our group decided shots were a good idea. The lemon drop shots this bartender made were huge and lethal. The rest of my night here was lit. My bar tab was really crazy, but I guess it's Midtown pricing. Overall a solid bar experience. read more

100% got food poisoning from the beef stew. it tasted a little different. I had about 1/3 of the serving. I was ill in under 2 hours.

Stopped in for a snack after walking along a street fair. The crabcake sliders were surprisingly good although they could just omit the bun. The onion rings and fries were listed in a way that made it seem like they came together but it was an either/or situation. The onion rings were fine anyway. Started getting crowded as we left presumably because the nearby theaters had let out after a weekend matinee so popular, but not too busy to not walk in. read more

This is a very generic Irish pub. I came here before with coworkers. Compared to the other bars on this block, it is the most humble and unpretentious one. The happy hour (Monday to Friday 4pm-8pm) is not bad, with $6 beers. There are also a bunch of TVs as well for watching sports. However, there is nothing unique about it - it's like all the typical Irish pubs you see around midtown. read more

Ask for mazum he's amazing and makes the best drinks get on that truly the best bartender ever shoutout

Are Server Laura was the best. She was so friendly and attentive and funny. Shepherds pie might be the best I've ever had in my whole life. Love the music and the ambience whoever decorated this place deserves an award. Can't wait to come back next time I'm in town. It'll be my first stop. read more

Absolute terrible service. The waiter passed by 4 times before acknowledging we were there. We hen my wife mentioned to hat we were in a bit of a hole rey die to s tour starting in 45 minutes. All we wanted were cocktails. Forget the name if the waiter but we never got served. He was Hispanic with not so good English. Note to manager. This is how you lose current and future business. $50 minimum walked out the door today at 7:02 PM read more

I think I'm obsessed with their buffalo chicken tenders with blue cheese dressing. They serve an crazy amount of these things. And the curry fries are delicious! The food surprised me. As a pub, there are, of course, dozens of televisions broadcasting sporting events. They have a good selection of beers. Overall, they have a pleasant atmosphere. 4 stars - I need to come back for those chicken tenders. read more

Owner was extremely kind to myself and my 3 friends . amazing service more people should come here.

The Playwright is a New York institution. Ask your friend from Iowa which bar they went to in the city on their last 'vacation'. It was likely this spot. Been here forever. Quality experience always. People know it. Right in the heart of midtown, you really can't go wrong. read more

Great spot in a super dense and crowded location. It was a bit hard to find because of all of the construction going on in the area. Came to grab some drinks with some friends and the place was pretty full. Sat near the bar to catch the game and only ordered drinks. Tried out a few beers. Service was great and the beer tasted good and fresh. The place and area is pretty rowdy though, so definitely not the type of place to have a quiet evening out. Lots of great options in the area and this one definitely stands out. Would recommend as a place to hang out with a group of friends for an evening. read more

Classic pub vibe! Have a few classics on draft along with serving well drinks, etc. Food was also classic pub fare. They have a second floor you can rent out for parties! Bartenders were nice too and pretty quick. read more

Bartender served us shots that we did NOT order, then CHARGED us for them after telling us that they were on the house. Also double charged us. Also service was horribly slow, sat at the bar with empty pints for ten minutes at a time before being refilled. read more

There are a lot of great pubs in NYC - put this one on the list. A classic Irish Pub but also with some food choices you wouldn't expect at an Irish Pub. Stopped in here for what became a few drinks. Wonderful and friendly bartender (John) made us feel welcome and we ended up spending almost two hours here. Will gladly return again soon. Very convenient location as well. Great for pretty much any occasions like after-work drink, quick happy hour, or large group gathering. Also, the place is an old house with several floors and rooms. Every corner is a surprise. read more

Nice little bar in midtown. I'm not sure what makes it an "Irish pub" but it was a good experience nonetheless. The staff was great, I sat at the bar and had wonderful conversations with the bartenders. I had the quesadilla with chicken and it was great. Lots of veggies and it was fully loaded. Enough for a meal for a grown man. read more

We came here a few times in our 2 day stay in NYC. We were at a hotel on the same street with family & we stopped in for drinks a few times. I had Mango Habanero Boneless wings which were delicious. Mazun was an amazing bartender and was so hospitable and kind. We will definitely be back!

Exceptional service from the moment we were greeted at the door by Richard. The barmen, food and atmosphere were equally exceptional - you will not be disappointed here. My friend and I stopped by on the off chance for lunch one day, saw they were going to be open Christmas Day (it was truly a Christmas to remember thanks to Richard and Lois, barman). We have even been back, and no doubt will again before we leave NYC. Thank you guys - you're the best read more
