They weren't wrong. Food was tasty and service was above average. Clean in general and I highly appreciate their bathroom cleanliness. The male server was attentive and polite. Came here after striking out at a few bars near MSG because the lines were too long, it was standing room only, or there was a $20 cover charge. Luckily, my friend and I arrived just in time to grab a table upstairs. We started with the chicken nachos, which were alright, and the buffalo wings, which were solid but arrived cold because our order got lost. They were busy, so I understand. I eventually ordered the French dip, which was just okay. I would highly recommend getting the burger over the French dip.. you're welcome. The best part of the experience was the atmosphere. The place was packed with Knicks fans celebrating the win. What a win. Stopped in for a quick drink on a Saturday at around 6 PM, while waiting for our dinner reservation next door. Feel pretty clean for an NYC Irish pub, and it looked like a lot of people were ordering food there. I had a French Martini, which had a bit too much pineapple juice in it for my taste. But it's what you'd expect from a typical Irish pub. Don't expect expertly crafted cocktails, but do expect friendly service, which is what we got. They were also quick and attentive so what can you really complain about? I would have gotten a Guinness but we were about to have AYCE Japanese BBQ, so I didn't want to fill up on that. A very decent midtown sports bar. Lots of TVs and seating. Big wooden bar. Came here on a Saturday late afternoon and was able to grab some seats by the window. The bar was pretty busy, they had the Yankee game on which was appreciated. I ordered a Tito's and soda and the bartender had a heavy hand - my favorite kind of bartender. While we were here there was a Stella promotion going on where the folks here gave us a free Stella in a plastic FIFA cup, a FIFA Stella stress ball, and an engraved Stella glass, so my day was pretty much made. At some point someone in our group decided shots were a good idea. The lemon drop shots this bartender made were huge and lethal. The rest of my night here was lit. My bar tab was really crazy, but I guess it's Midtown pricing. Overall a solid bar experience. read more

I needed a drink at 3am and I'm so glad Playwright Irish Pub was open and served until 3:30am. They had a good blend of beer on tap and mixed drinks. Playwright had good vibe music and the place was relatively clean for a bar. The bartender was quick to take our order, make our drinks, and close the tab. The recommended cocktails went well together. We tried the French Martini and the Big Apple Martini. The people were descent and there was no concern at the witching hour. read more

Stopped in for a snack after walking along a street fair. The crabcake sliders were surprisingly good although they could just omit the bun. The onion rings and fries were listed in a way that made it seem like they came together but it was an either/or situation. The onion rings were fine anyway. Started getting crowded as we left presumably because the nearby theaters had let out after a weekend matinee so popular, but not too busy to not walk in. read more

This is a very generic Irish pub. I came here before with coworkers. Compared to the other bars on this block, it is the most humble and unpretentious one. The happy hour (Monday to Friday 4pm-8pm) is not bad, with $6 beers. There are also a bunch of TVs as well for watching sports. Great spot in a super dense and crowded location. It was a bit hard to find because of all of the construction going on in the area. Came to grab some drinks with some friends and the place was pretty full. Sat near the bar to catch the game and only ordered drinks. Tried out a few beers. Service was great and the beer tasted good and fresh. The place and area is pretty rowdy though, so definitely not the type of place to have a quiet evening out.
