Came here for happy hour. It's kinda of a divey Irish bar? The bathrooms were incredibly small and one woman (Megan?) was working the bar and serving people. At one point we asked for water and she asked us how many of us actually wanted water. Kinda rude, but then she explained not everyone drinks their water and she was swamped (she was) so we get it. I was literally with someone named Megan when we saw this bar so it was only right for us to pop in and have a drink. The bartender was polite but clearly has his limits with demanding customers. He warmed up when we and another patron started talking about Houston, which he had just visited. He was also nice enough to make me a Shirley Temple. And while he said he was making a grapefruit and vodka drink for my companion, the color was more lemon/citrusy but she didn't complain. This bar definitely has a vibe. There was a sign acknowledging the holidays but I didn't know if it was meant to be ironic or if they just didn't know how to spell Kwanzaa. Maybe it's a reference I'm not cool enough to get. Also the bathroom has a telephone receiver for a handle so there's that. But if you want a quiet spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, this is likely your place. read more

We stumbled into this bar on a Saturday evening while looking for an alternative to Connelly's, which was packed of course. We wanted to escape the foot traffic and I'm so glad I stepped inside. The bar was pleasantly empty, with just a few people scattered around enjoying their weekend and taking a breather from the chaos outside. It felt like taking a deep breath in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. When I noticed they had Golden Monkey on tap, I was ecstatic! That alone is reason enough for me to come back the next time I'm in the area. Randomly selected this place, because of it's proximity to Grand Central Station, where we were arriving, and the theatre we were going to see a show at. Fully realizing this could be hit or miss, being smack in the middle of midtown and touristy area. It was definitely a hit! And I can't wait to go back! The place inside was a pub, with all the atmosphere that comes with it. My daughter and I were seated right away (it was a Saturday afternoon), and I got a cold beer, while she got a nice Shirley Temple. I noticed a table near us had some phone chargers available for customers, which I thought was a nice touch. We started with delicious Teriyaki Chicken Dumplings. My daughter ordered fish and chips, and I had The Bavarian sandwich (pastrami). Food was fantastic, portions on a large side. As my daughter said, I think I have a whole fish here. You could get food and chill or you could get drinks and chill for a very long time. Chicken sandwich - I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich. It comes with fries which were pretty standard. But, the star of the meal was the sandwich. It comes with a significant portion size and cut in half. The chicken was fried but the skin was the proper level of crunchy. I had reservations at another restaurant when I walked by Megan's. It looked so fun and I peaked at the menu which had so many options I liked. The place is clean and has a warm, fun vibe. I sat at the bar and could see the numerous on-tap offerings. I had an IPA that was a special. Very crisp and cold. I had the shaved Brussels salad with salmon. The salad had so many yummy components- bacon, Brussels, almonds and the vinaigrette wasn't too heavy. I did think it could have been a bit more flavorful whether it was more seasoning on the salmon or more on the salad. I would definitely recommend Megan's abs go there again! read more

Sometime's I decide to visit places based on the review and articles about them, while other times I go to a place because of word of mouth from a friend. But there's also something to say about those places that you stumble upon by total happenstance that turn into a winner. This was the case for stumbling into Megan's towards the end of our NYC trip, because after an hour of trying to wade through a sea of humanity to see some holiday lights and trees, I found myself REALLY having to go to the bathroom! When you reach that point in a city like NYC you can't just stop and go anywhere, especially when you're around a quadruple jam-packed Times Square during the holiday season. So despite having to go, I tried my best to find a place that wasn't super crowded, super expensive, or a basic fast-food spot. And when we stumbled upon this Irish pub that touted having many taps of beer and then some, it was a sweet relief in more ways than one! The more I chilled inside in the more I realized that it was the perfect off-Irish pub that channeled good memories of some of my favorite Philly one's like Fergie's. Only it had more than double the beers on tap, and had much more of a versatile food menu. Of course this Irish pub had the standards like Guinness, Harp, and some of those regular American brews. But they also had a ton of good locals I never tried and was ready to savor, some draft cocktails and wine, and op tap of that they even brewed their own beers with my favorite being the Irish red ale. For food choices, it was pretty hard to decide since their menu consisted of plenty of traditional Irish foods and pub foods, pizzas, burgers, and then some. But it was pretty hard to overlook their Greek salad that was loaded with grilled shrimp, feta, kalamata olives. All of the above combined for the best salad ever! Toss in incredible bartenders and the ability to order flights when it isn't a jam-packed NYC holiday weekend, and you have a spot I wish I could take back to Philly with me! read more

5 stars due to service, great New York attitude and selection! My girlfriend and I luckily fell upon Megan's on Saturday night. Bottom floor was packed but Trevor and Carl (2 great Irish lad's) made sure everyone had a full pint. I apologize for not catching his name but their coworker from Venezuela was also working hard making sure the patrons were attended to in a quick manner. Carl recommend a cider for me to start with before he poured me a proper Guinness. There is a digital jukebox you can sync to and play songs. Unfortunately for Carl, I was feeling nostalgic from a trip to Dublin so I selected some good Irish music. With a quick look of the eye and a couple friendly words Carl changed my music and threw me a $1! Great conversations with Trevor and Carl about what brought them to New York and about 10 pints later, my girlfriend and I were closing out the bar with some new friends we met also on vacation. We made sure to go back for breakfast and 2 of our 3 servers were back working again! These guys are doing all they can to keep their customers happy, bellies full and glasses cold. I had the Irish stew on Saturday and it was a perfect amount of food on a wet NY evening. Filling but not too much. Sunday my girlfriend and I each ordered the Irish Breakfast.... Listen, if you arrive at your Midtown hotel near midnight and you skipped the hummus snack box on your JetBlue flight, chances are pretty good that you'll be peckish but feeling too guilty to hit a Papaya Dog for a wiener fix. However, after a failed attempt at another restaurant that just closed their kitchen, I found a mindful meal can be had at the most unlikely of places, a convivial Irish pub where no one else was eating. They were all hoisting a pint or five. That didn't stop the bartender/shift manager from serving me like a regular diner. On quest for a nice pint of Smitchwicks I found Megan! I've been back twice since my first visit. If you're a beer person then this spot is for you. Lovely Irish bar with great food options. Happy hour: they have an all day happy hour which applies to both food & drinks. They carry their own line of a variety of beers. $6 all day, $10 for cocktails and much more. Recommendations: the waffle fries smothered with nacho cheese toppings (lettuce, cheese, sour cream etc) and short ribs is super scrumptious. This place was very modern looking with 2 floors. There was a decent size bar on the first floor, while the 2nd floor appeared to have only a few available tables. The menu had lots of interesting choices, not just the typical Irish options. The service was alright. The food did come out in a timely matter. However, the staff tried taking my food away two times when I was obviously still eating. For an appetizer, the Reuben fritters ($12) were ordered. There were 3 large fritters with corned beef, Swiss cheese, and mashed potatoes that was over sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing. I thought there would be more than 3 fritters to an order. Regarding the fritter itself, the corned beef was hardly tasted, but the fritter was still quite appetizing. The sauerkraut also tasted more like coleslaw to me. The name of the dish was just deceiving for what it actually tasted like. The lamb burger ($15) was ordered for an entrée. It consisted of an 8 oz. lamb patty, a Kalamata yogurt spread and feta cheese on a brioche bun. The burger also came with fries. I ordered it medium, and the meat was slightly overcooked, but it was not that big of a deal. The meat to bread ratio was poor though. The brioche overpowered all of the fillings. Not much to say about this place. There were a lot of good reviews, but unfortunately I will never try this place for a second time. I just don't live close enough and had a pretty bad experience. In a city with a plethora of options, I will explore other options. Our server was great, that's the only reason I didn't give 1 star. The hostess was pretty clueless and slightly rude... or maybe she just had no personality, not sure which is worse. The food was bland. My burger and bun tasted frozen and my wife's cauliflower tasted undercooked with too much seasoning. I waited just over 15 minutes for the check. Not sure if there was a shift change or what, but I literally couldn't find my waiter. And the waiter was the best part of the dinner... Come here for drinks. I needed a place to sit and eat after my usual spot was closed for a private holiday party. I came across this place and was enticed by the signage that advertised 60 beers on tap. The place most definitely has a solid selection of beers. If you like beer at all, then you will absolutely find something here that you will want to drink. Food wise, it had a diverse menu. This is an irish-style pub bar and so you will have a lot of that food type. I ordered the sheperd's pie. It was alright. Not bad tasting but could have been more flavorful.... The venue has good space and the bathrooms are clean and within easy distance of the tables. Price wise -- everything was average and I did not feel the NYC premium present in the pricing here. Good spot considering this part of the city can be on the pricier side. I would come here again as I like the multitude of TVs and very large beer selection. read more
