Sean's easily accommodated our group of six. We started with pretzels and spinach artichoke dip with chips. The dip was hot and cheesy. Chips were replenished..eventually. The pretzels were more like warm soft breadsticks, served with a cheese dip and mustard on the side. Decor is an advertisement for Guinness but it IS an Irish pub in NYC. I had the Irish stew, a crock of hot beef and vegetables in a tasty gravy. Others in the group enjoyed burgers and salads. Next time I'll try the shepards pie. Walking around New York City on a drizzly Sunday, I walked into Sean's Bar & Kitchen to grab lunch. Typical looking New York, Irish pub, TVs, great vibe. Service from the bartender was great. I ordered the fish and chips and a Bloody Mary. Everything was great up till then. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. Maybe it was a deep fat fryer thing, but I respectfully suggest the cook be given a little additional training. The fish batter was hard on the outside, and the fish was completely mushy on the inside. Like, gray mush. The fries were lukewarm. The mushy peas and the tartar sauce were served in little covered plastic disposable containers. I'm not a fan of that, but I get it is convenient. I truly wanted to like this place, and except for my one experience with the food, I would certainly return. People were having fun, and I did as well. The hostess who seated us seemed indifferent--she didn't offer much in the way of greeting or guidance. The food was okay, but nothing stood out. We ordered a mix of drinks--Bluemoon draft, Oktoberfest, and a cocktail--along with chicken sandwiches, a quinoa burger, and the Bird on Fire burger. My quinoa burger was falling apart and just average in terms of flavor. While walking around New York me and my wife were getting really hungry so we decided to stop here. And I am very happy that I did, everything from the theming to the food to the pricing was wonderful. Upon walking in we were greeted and sat very quickly and a little to top. I will say that sitting in here is very close so if you get claustrophobic this might not be the place for you. Our waitress was very attentive and came over multiple times asking us if we have ever been here and some really good food recommendations. I decided to get a Guinness and the chicken curry for my food and drink today. Let me just say that the Guinness was poured with the perfect amount of head and ice cold! The chicken curry was ridiculously flavorful and had such a nice blend of spices that I was trying so hard not to inhale all of my food because of how delicious it was. The rice also was cooked perfectly and all of the vegetables and ingredients were portioned out wonderfully. By the end of my meal I was so full that I wanted to pop. It was about $18 for my dish and about $6 or $7 for the beer, I can't remember unfortunately, but it was 100% worth the price. My family & friend's came to this restaurant, it came highly recommended. It has a very friendly atmosphere & the staff are sooo nice. We ordered the Shepherd's pie which was spot on &'delicious. My wife ordered the French Onion Soup which was incredible. My friends daughters had shepherds pie & split a hamburger they said it was so incredible. My daughter had the chicken pot pie, the dish was so fresh crust soooo fresh & soooo good. Excellent service. My 1 year old granddaughter was playing with a toy & they offered batteries for it to light up. I thought they where so sweet to do that. The chef's they have in that kitchen prepare there food with respect & precision!!!! bravo . I grew up in NY on Long Island, where here for a mini vacation. This made my visit back home memorable. After wandering around the different markets, this was a cool place to sneak into where we were able to get fast service and great food. As tourist who have been taking pictures all day, iPhone batteries were quickly dwindling, and the staff was able to take them in charge for us which I thought was amazing. We got the spinach and artichoke dip, pizzas holiday cocktails, and some fries. This was our first time here at this restaurant the waiter definitely gave us great suggestions on drinks to get which was perfect. This was our last meal before leaving NYC, and it was a good one! We'd been in the area around Rockefeller Center to check out Christmas decorations, which was absolutely packed. We tried a couple of restaurants, but the waits were too long for us. We walked a few blocks & happened upon Sean's Bar & Kitchen. At first, my daughter laughingly refused to eat here because of a "not nice guy" from her past named Sean. But... we were hungry & needed to head to the airport in a few hours. So I convinced her to give Sean's a shot. We were glad we did! I had the Gaelic burger, which was delicious with its sautéed onions and cheese. I recently made dinner reservations at Sean's for a large event dinner and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The team was fantastic in meeting my groups needs and communicated every step of the way. Reservations were easy and the space was perfect for our needs. Service was totally on point. The location is centrally located and was easy to reach for out of town guests. Food was really great. I personally had the chicken pot pie which was fresh and delicious. Our dinner included a prefix menu and there were no complaints about any of the options. Food was prepared quickly and the group had a great time over drinks and bites in the upstairs area and it was all incredibly affordable. The place was busy and looked like it was a hot spot based upon all the folks that were inside and outside enjoying their drinks and food. I ordered my drink and for appetizer, got my favorite - calamari. Sadly, the calamari was over fried and thus it was chewy to consume. For my drink i ordered Sean's Christmas Ale, tis the season after all! It was very hardy and had a spiced aftertaste. It definitely tasted like Christmas. My friend ordered the frozen marg Capri-Sean, it came in a pouch with a straw - how fun! I'm not big on the taste of tequila however the marg tasted like a lime slushee, no alcohol taste at all! Thursday - 5:30pm We went at prime time happy hour and sat outside to take advantage of the nice weather . They did have seating outing which isn't as nice as the other places I passed on the block . Moreover , there were too many mosquitoes as they had the fake plants and there's no air circulation ( I asked if they could turn on the fan but the Gentleman told the server it's not possible . My first ask was if we can sit at another table which he also didn't approve of so I wasn't surprised he didn't accommodate my asking to turn on the fan ). More than an hour is enough if you're outside because of the mosquitoes, we just had to finish eating the food ( chicken tenders , wings , waffle fries nachos and fish and chips - all mediocre and typical pub food ) . I support businesses and encourage patrons to support restaurants but business owners should also try to understand with the slew of competition, they need to really step up their game . If this was your neighborhood spot, it'd be worthy of 3 stars - an "elevated" Applebee's if you will. But for the disneyfied, crowded, touristy hell that is midtown (especially at Xmas): Sean's is a cut above. On the last weekend before Xmas, we only had to wait 5-10 minutes to get a table for 5. Don't get me wrong, the place was bustling and the service somewhat spotty at times, but it's run a lot better than nearby "Bill's." The food is probably better and more diverse than their rival as well: I had the Irish chicken curry and ate the entire thing! It's not spicy, but it's a touch sweet. Very good. Nikki's Gaelic burger did NOT come out mid-rare as requested. Rather it was over cooked and fairly flavorless in my opinion. She doesn't like to make a fuss so she ate it. They offer gluten-free buns which is an awesome plus. Small upcharge but not too bad, $2-3. My brother in law had the Irish stew and my sister had the shepherds pie. I think they cleaned their plates too. Nephew had chicken fingers, they seemed fine. The drinks were good and they offer their own private label beer that purportedly comes from the emerald Isle. We went for breakfast shortly they opened at 9 am. We were the only people there at the time, but it didn't necessarily feel like they were prepared to serve people. The menu online was a little different than the options they offered in the actual restaurant. Also, the pictures on the menu in restaurant will really make you question your choice in restaurants. Pictures online are FAR better. Definitely hope they update the menu copies they offer in restaurant, because it was a little off putting and confusing. Only 1 of 2 people ended up ordering - waffle was fluffy and nicely presented, but a little bit dry. No one ever came back to check in to refill drinks or give us the check after we were finished with the food for a while. Definitely smelled like a well loved bar - cleaning supply smell was strong that early in the morning. The fried pickle chips were just alright. The pickles were cut so thinly you can barely even taste them. It just tasted like breading.
