No at all busy, but we waited an eternity for an Americana coffee and a bakery pastry. No one has any sense of urgency at all. None. WTH? It's not inexpensive and the atmosphere was good, but we waited more than 30 minutes for our little order. And then the barista abandoned her station to take out the trash and spruce up the bathrooms, while we waited for our coffee!! I would like to have a conversation with the owner. read more

Unfortunately this place had terrible food, the wifi did not work, my signal was horrible, and not shaming the employees... but they got my order wrong and were a little stand offish.. I hate leaving bad reviews, but for this place I had to. Especially the the wifi situation because I came there to work, and had to leave soon after because of the internet not working.. read more

Pricey, but the from scratch menu is worth it. The bacon breakfast sandwich and orange cranberry scone are my go to items. Their cold brew with some home made almond milk is really something special. Only complaints are the weekend lines are too long and the music choices can be odd. Regardless, can't recommend enough. read more

Had latte with oat milk and it was way too sweet. Had to dump it after two sips. First of all it shouldn't be sweet at all, cuz oat milk itself doesn't have much sweetness. I've had more than a hundred oat milk latte from other places and this is the only time it's sweet. Second please ask if the customer wants sweetener or not before you put in... read more

Never a bad thing when a clean and cool coffee shop opens up nearby. Bakery items are bomb and really unique and offer savory to sweet. From the 'pop tart' to the stroopwafel, you can't go wrong. Mine was served cold to go, but I actually heated it up a tiny bit and loved it even more. The latte was solid but the chai tea latte was very light and soft and lacked that flavor. Would say stick to the coffee and food here. Prices hit you when customizing with $1 up charge for but or oat milk. No non-fat or sugar free options either. Easy parking and online ordering make this a great grab and go, but they do have nice indoor and outdoor seating as well for hanging around. read more

Ovenbird's breakfast was unlike anything I've had in Austin so far! The Bavarian croissant breakfast sandwich was to die for and I'm still thinking about how good the buttery, flakey, salty pastry was. We also tried a cheese cookie which was such a good balance of sweet and savory and the perfect fluffy texture. Can't wait to try everything else on their menu! read more

Met friends for breakfast. I only had one of their pastries. It was good but not what I thought it was. I'll try the breakfast bowl or tacos next time as that's what my friends has read more

Best scrambled eggs in town. I crave their breakfast sandwich, it's scrambled eggs, cheese, thick cut bacon and a special sauce on the most delicious pretzel bun I've ever had. I also love their hand pies, which are like a gourmet pop tart but way less sweet. Cute & bright place with lots of indoor & outdoor seating and easy parking. A quiet place you can linger. A total gem and great place to get breakfast/brunch without fighting the downtown & east side crowds. read more

This place is phenomenal. The Matcha late with a little honey is the best I've ever had. The breakfast salad sounded odd, but was so good. Too bad they close at 3 read more

Ovenbird - Breakfast salad - Modern European Near Me - Austin, Texas

They open two weeks ago in South Austin! I'm so excited that we have a place like this south of downtown and Lamar area. You can dine in or on their outdoor patio. One of the owners, Steve, is knowledgeable and helpful. They have quality teas for the tea lover. They have ceremonial matta tea and homemade chai tea blend. The pastries are to die for.... chocolate swirl brioche bread (chocolate babka), German cinnamon bread, Bavarian breakfast taco and puff pastry filled with ham and cheese (hand pie). I don't drink coffee but my friends love their coffee too. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. read more

Matcha Latte and pastries (almond braid, peach and goat cheese danish, and blueberry lemon scone) were so delicious. Outside seating was very nice and the inside ambiance was very cute and clean. read more

The lattes here are not very good. I live close so I've been here multiple times. Just because of the convenience. I've tried to give this place multiple chances, thinking maybe it was just the certain barista that isn't good at pulling the espresso but it may be the entire staff. Maybe it's the beans? But the espresso tastes burnt. The ice lattes are bad. The hot lattes are also bad. They don't know how to steam plant based milk. Also, they have no vegan or plant based options. Eggs everything. I personally will probably still get coffee here because it's close. But if you're looking to try a new place, don't go here. I will say the staff is always friendly. Just not good product. read more

Great coffee and a cute spot to grab a snack and get some work done! Hidden in a shopping center along south Congress, it's located close to the highway with plenty of free parking and lots of yummy freshly baked pastries. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID - If you're looking for a decent meal. Dirty tables, aloof staff, bizarre menu, poor food preparation, unsanitary environment. Disappointed I spent time here. We had the Hoppel Poppel = bowl of potatoes with a couple pieces of over cooked steak (which was properly seasoned but also tasted like it reheated), egg was improperly prepared. Also had the sausage, Boursin, Pesto - which was pretty good, egg was also improperly prepared. We were given one set of utensils - I had to request an additional service set and get it myself. I asked for my table to be cleaned and was totally ignored at a dirty table where I sat for roughly 10+ minutes before getting it cleaned after a 3rd request... The ambiance is comfortable and homie... the staff is a joke for a service business... my guess is that this has to do with leadership/training/expectations failure. These are not people you will enjoy or be comfortable preparing your food. One exception - the dark curly haired gentleman in glasses at the register was professional, thorough and pleasant. read more

Sometimes brunch places are just okay. This place was really good. Skotch egg and I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Sounds overplayed but was super good. Pastries were also good. read more

Innovative little place all the way down soco with friendly people and a cosy interior. Lots of items made in house. Salads & sandwiches very fresh n tasty with an eastern Euro touch to everything read more

Our neighborhood spot! Great lattes, a really unique selection of homemade European bakery items, and a cozy/modern vibe.

My wife and I were excited to try this place in our neighborhood. From the industrial interior to the poorly cooked breakfast (underdone bacon with over cooked hard (over easy ordered) eggs swimming in bacon grease) it was a disappointment. My espresso was luke warm, the counter service was slow and seemed disinterested but the young waiter was great. It felt like a rendition of a coffee bar from someone whom has never actually experienced a real coffee bar. read more

My sister raved about this place after going recently and I am so glad we stopped by. Wonderful coffee and very delicious pastry offering. The staff is very knowledgeable and very welcoming. They have a big patio and are taking all the necessary safety precautions very seriously. read more

Ovenbird - Cappuccino with their house-made almond milk - Modern European Near Me - Austin, Texas

French toast is either excellent or rancid. Popped in to Ovenbird on a lazy Tuesday afternoon. Ordered the French toast and a coffee. I was not disappointed that was some of the best French toast that I've ever had. Well cooked no burn marks overly hot griddle which can often happen. Nice and custardy which all French toast should be. And to my surprise the syrup that was provided was not some maple wanna be. It had a slight orange taste not strong just a hint. I will be back. Oh and the coffee was pretty good to. read more

Love everything I get from Ovenbird. Coffee drinks are on point, pastries are unique and delicious. Only lunch item I've had is the BLT and it was so very good. I'm here more than I should be. read more

The best coffee and food in south Austin by a LONG shot. Staff are all exceptionally friendly and professional. Very knowledgeable of the product and helpful with suggestions. The environment is charming and relaxing. The food is clearly made with an incredible amount of love and care. Every dish and pastry, from hot meals to snacks to take to go, is absolutely exceptional. I come here once a week minimum and I'm excited for the next visit even when walking out of the current one. To say I recommend this establishment is a ludicrous understatement. If you eat at Ovenbird you will have an delightful time. Guaranteed. read more

My girlfriend and I have come here twice now, and it's pretty good! The iced lattes are great, not too sweet or milky. I usually get an iced vanilla and honey latte and both times it's been solid. My girlfriend got the iced ginger latte and even though I'm not a huge ginger guy, I enjoyed it. For breakfast I had the Hoppel Poppel. It wasn't incredible, but it wasn't bad. If you're looking for a decently healthy option you can't really go wrong, just know it'll be somewhere in the alright/good range as far as taste goes. The sausage breakfast sandwhich on the other hand is great! The first time we had it on white bread because they were out of the typical bread they use and to be honest it was better than the pretzel type bun that the sandwich is usually made with. The French toast was great too! Not much else to say there. Pastries are good, not great, but anything that is good in Austin gets a pass in my book. Would probably recommend other places if you're looking for pastries though I've only tried the lemon raspberry, and chocolate strawberry hand pie. Atmosphere is good too! Enough space to walk around and enough seating both times we've been. read more

the coffee is great but i was not a fan of their pastries. i tried the breakfast brioche - there was barely any toppings on it. it was also very salty. i was excited to try the german cinnamon roll but it tasted bland and stale. this was only 10 am in the morning too, pastries should still be fresh! read more

I love this place so much more than I expected. If you go on the weekend in the mornings it may take a little bit longer but its definitely worth the wait. The sausage and egg breakfast sandwich is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! It has sooooo much more flavor than food I usually find at a restaurant - especially breakfast food. Everything from the pesto, the bread, the egg, the sausage its all perfect! I actually only had their almond danish and was already addicted to that so I didn't expect to like the breakfast sandwich even more. Definitely worth your time and money. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the city. The inside is simple but checks all the boxes for a coffee shop spacious, comfortable seating and comforting ambiance. The coffee is great! But I love the breakfast sandwich! If you are ever in south Austin I encourage you and to try Ovenbird. Make sure to try the Breakfast Sandwich served on Bavarian Croissant, Sausage, Shallot and Dill Boursin Cheese and Radish Leaf Pesto! read more

Overall great experience! Modern, open main area. Super friendly staff and quick service! Got a vanilla latte with almond milk- I think their almond milk is homemade so it had a strange flavor and couldn't drink it my latte. Could tell the espresso was good though. Got a croissant sandwich with sausage, cheddar and scrambled eggs. Very good! It was pretty greasy but very tasty and enjoyable! Overall good place to get breakfast and coffee, just not sure about the almond milk! read more

Excellent iced latte. Both pastries we tried (pound cake and cookie) were well made. Good flavors and not too sweet. Really nice looking interior. They've got a nice COVID-19 safety setup where you order by the door read more

Not a great way to start the year. We went there specifically for the pastries. They were cold on the inside, like refrigerator cold. We asked them to warm them up. After initial confusion/hesitation(really?) they agreed. They may not have microwave because they used oven to heat. It took close to 10 minutes because they didn't immediately put them in. By then our coffee was cold. Yes, we could clearly see they were very busy, but they need to learn to give preference and fix issues for customers who are already sitting down eating. I asked for a to go box for our food specifying we had other non-pastry food. They gave me a thin pastry box which our eggs and potato dish soaked into. read more

disappointing especially considering we went searching for this place based on the reviews! we went for lunch, there were hardly any vegetarian options. the french toast tasted like bacon..... and it was burnt....they didn't even offer a refund even though i didn't eat it. all i ended up eating was a tiny side salad. the blt was ok he ..... we won't be coming back for sure. read more

Great little spot we found. The window for fast orders was very convenient. We ordered the coffee and a pound cake. Both were great!!!

GREAT coffee & GREAT pastries. The selection is awesome & the service never disappoints. They can be a little slow on the weekends with made to order food but it's 100% worth the wait. Highly recommend for sure! read more

I've been looking for a new bakery since my old favorite sweetish hill closed and this is it! I got an assortment of baked goods to try and everything was fantastic and tasted as good as it looked. Awesome coffee and food is good. They keep it simple and preform it to the best. Awesome staff.

Amazing coffee and even better pastries. Make sure to try their danish bread for a sweet treat-if there's any left when you get there.
