Seasonal Overnight Oats

I must be honest and say this is one of the BEST brunches I have EVER had! Scratch cooking by Sarah! She creates the most delicious pastries and delectable dishes. This will be my forever to-go when in Austin!

Linda M.

Very cute restaurant; limited menu; nice pastries. The biscuit was the best thing I ordered. I also ordered a couple of scrambled eggs and one carrot cake pancake. Strangely, the pancake was already cut in to bitesize pieces, piled up in the middle of the plate, and drenched in syrup and icing. Way too sweet for me, but tasty enough that I had a few pieces. Felt like a child whose parents had to cut up my food! haha! I thought $30+ for breakfast was a bit pricey, but I guess that's the way it goes these days.....

"May"azaki drink menu
Amie N.

Trekked from the far great north of the Austin suburbs because my friend and I really wanted to go to the "May"azaki themed dinner. The staff were all attentive and nice; the table decor was obviously DIY crafted but it was still cute and creative! The flavor was severely lacking in all of our entrees. The portions were also really small, like, almost Lunchables-sized. My friend ordered Kiki's cake and it was pretty dry. There was not a non-chocolate option, as someone who hates it, which was fine. I was going to give my friend the other dessert but they were able to sub it for a pastry from the counter. The drinks, however, were very well done. I would love to see those as regular staples on the menu. Even though the calcirita was incredibly smoky, like, "coal in your lungs"-type sensation, it was at least still on theme. I would suggest doing cocktail that can be temporarily lit on fire or it comes in a glass dome with a "smoke-like" effect instead if repeating the theme. I will consider coming back one more time for their regular menu but I don't know that it was worth driving down again soon.

Well that is NOT the bacon taco that I ordered...

I visited multiple times and always felt they were overpriced. Today I ordered a sticky bun, coffee, and taco to go. The service was slow and they got my order wrong. Not really sure I'll be back. On the plus side the sticky bun was good.

Eggs over easy, 2 slices bacon and biscuit.

Enjoyable impeccable environment. We ordered spicy Bloody Mary's. R ordered chicken salad on sourdough and I ordered breakfast 2 eggs over easy, bacon and a biscuit for $3.50 additional. The chicken salad was large and outstanding. My eggs were cooked perfectly. My first bacon slice was undercooked and I should have sent it back. The second slice was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The biscuit was underwhelming. Dry. I can see how biscuits and gravy would be awesome here. The spicy bloody Mary's were excellent. We will definitely return.

I met a friend here for breakfast this week. It was my first time trying Ovenbird. I immediately found parking in their free lot out front, which is always nice. Gotta love easy parking! I arrived earlier than my friend, so I ordered a latte at the bar and then chose a table to sit at. There are a bunch of tables inside, so it was easy to find one. There were several people working remotely, and the Wi-Fi password (ovenbirdatx!) was displayed in several places. When my friend arrived, we quickly ordered from our table using the QR code there. We both ended up ordering the breakfast sandwich with sausage and pesto. The latte was good, but a little bit bitter. I still finished all of it, though. The breakfast sandwich was tasty and came out quick. It actually was somewhat bigger than I thought it would be! All in all, a decent place to meet a friend for breakfast or to do some remote work.

I checked out Ovenbird for breakfast while visiting Austin. It's a great South Austin spot to grab a coffee, fresh baked goods, and a tasty meal from this scratch kitchen. I did all three. I started out with a Franzbrötchen, a German style cinnamon roll, and a cortado. Both were a great start while waiting for one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a while. The sandwich I chose comes with bacon, beer cheese, fluffy eggs, and Russian dressing on a beautifully toasted Bavarian croissant. I also had to try a side of their duck fat potatoes, fried golden brown with smoked duck fat, whipped confit garlic butter, and fresh thyme. This was an excellent meal with great service, and I would highly recommend checking them out if you're ever in the area.

We visited Ovenbird the Monday after the recent ice in Austin. The staff was beyond friendly and the ambiance calming. The London fog on their menu is what drew us in. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, French toast and breakfast plate. The syrup on the French toast was phenomenal..you will eat every last bite. As for the sandwich it had a fresh pesto and sausage to die for with a perfectly cooked egg. The London fog was the star though. Its flavor was packed and every sip a journey. I recommend stopping by and just taking some time to enjoy it all.

Quick visit to Austin and this was our breakfast choice and a good one. The food is abundant and home made. The lemon meringue French toast is rich and true to its namesake but enough for three. The duckfat-fried potatoes were crisp, unctuous and with a few flakes of salt, delicious. Pastries had just the right amount of sweetness. A real treat.

Chicken Snitzel Sandwich with a side of Potato Salad and Bacon in the background

My husband and I decided to go to breakfast at Ovenbird while in the area. We parked, walked in, looked around and chose to sit outside. The Restaurant is bright and big with lots of seating inside and outside. We sat down at a table and there was a little sign with a QR Code that said to scan with your phone and place your order. We looked at the menu and ordered. It was quick and easy. We grabbed some cold water that was set up on a stand where you could get your own. After getting water we sat and waited for our food. After about 10-15 minutes we got our food that was brought out to our table by a kind woman. The Food My husband ordered Hoppel Poppel which is a bowl that has steak, peppers, onions, potatoes, dressing, an egg, and green onion. I tried it and it was good. The steak pieces were a good size. The egg was good. It was sunny side up which is my favorite. The potatoes were thick and soft on the inside while crispy on the outside. The peppers and onions added flavor. I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich which has fried chicken, apple slaw, and dijonnaise on a braided bun. It came with a side of Potato Salad. I ordered a side of Bacon with my meal. The Chicken Sandwich was yummy. The chicken itself was tender. The apple slaw in the sandwich added texture and flavor. The Braided bun was soft. It was a really good sandwich. The Potato Salad was different from what I am used to as it was made with Fingerling potatoes but they were really good. I liked that the potatos were a good size and very flavorful. The Bacon was really good. It wasn't crispy, it was thick and soft. It was a savory side. You can definitely tell that all of the food is fresh. Overall it was a pleasant experience. The atmosphere was nice inside and outside, the service was good, and the food was delicious. An extra note we went to eat breakfast at 8:45 AM on a Saturday morning and it wasn't crowded but it may be packed at other times.

WEEKEND ONLY Petite Bacon Quiche
Hannah W.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to try such a great place that's practically in my own backyard! The coffee was bold and the perfect sweetness. I got a pfeffernüsse cappuccino since they're one of my favorite cookies, and I was not disappointed. It tasted like the iced-ginger cookie had been liquidied into my cup. The only thing was it was a latte rather than a cappuccino. My friend got the raspberry cheesecake blini's and I got the bacon jam tart. Both menu item's were fabulous and hit the brunch spot! It does get a little crowded, but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You also might have to travel down the lot for parking since a lot of the spaces are reserved for other businesses, but it's definitely worth it!

WEEKEND ONLY Latke Nest
Dylan O.

The latke nest tastes solid, but is tiny. Not worth the price. Same thing with the little pfaffernoose cookies, 2 dollars for a cookie the size of a walnut? Never again. The drip coffee was honestly just not good. Their service style is also "seat yourself and order online", so the wait staff just drops the food at your table. Not necessarily a problem but when you have questions you have to like wave down whoever you can find. Once I got ahold of a waitress she was very nice but that doesn't redeem the place. I would not come back here.

Medovic latte
Pree R.

A spacious place to grab breakfast on the weekend south of downtown! They have such intriguing seasonal latte flavors, breakfast sandwiches, tacos, pastries, and more! For Saturday breakfast, I had the Medovic Latte which was sweetened with burnt honey and salted caramel flavors. I was also able to customize a breakfast sandwich with an egg prepared over easy, layered with beer cheese, and all sandwiched between a flaky, salted, crispy layered biscuit. The latte was incredibly sweet, so I was only able to tolerate it through mid-cup. I would definitely come back to try other options!

Rosé Gosé (note accents) is in an unassuming Airport Blvd location (right next to Jewboy Burgers, an Austin favorite). It is run by a couple from Belarus that came here right after Covid to open up a restaurant, with a sister in Minsk. Defying expectations, the menu is not Balkan at all. If anything, there is a strong Asian influence with poke bowls and a lot of seafood. But the menu also offers beef tartare on their raw bar menu, as well as a steak offering and grilled chicken. It's a diverse and adventurous menu, all the way from small plates to hefty mains and vegetable sides. For the dessert, try the pavlova, a meringue confection stuffed with coconut mousse and topped with lime sorbet and a grapefruit slice sidecar. Everything is superbly presented, and unquestionably fresh and healthy without veering into twigs and berries territory. The cocktail menu is also playful, with a lot of nontraditional glassware and slight spins on popular drinks; their version of a Paloma uses prosecco instead of a splash of soda. The servers are all dressed in rosé jumpsuits and very attentive. The space is amiable and elegant without being pretentious. The table spacing is a little close, so that conversations carry between guests. The table setting has some nice touches, like the little wooden bench that holds your fork and knife off the table. In European fashion, water can be asked for but it won't be served with ice. Plan on taking your time and enjoying course after course.

Rosé Gosé was a delightful Mother's Day lunch spot. It is a whole vibe, and it is uniquely French! When we walked in an artist was playing romantic music on his keyboard, which set the tone for the brunch. It is a small restaurant inside with a larger area of seating on the patio. Of course, our reservations were inside in the comforts of air conditioning. You immediately notice a wine wall hence the name Rosé Gosé. The restaurant has many windows which provide lots of natural light. The tables house miniature yellow roses and utensils sat in a small wooden block...very French. All the servers were dressed in mauve clothing that resemble scrubs from a hospital. If someone stepped out in a French beret, I would have fallen over. Our server, Sergey, immediately served us water and took our order. The restaurant was highlighted as a modern European bistro. The atmosphere was charming, elegant, and stylish making it ideal for a Mother's Day brunch. My hubby ordered a ribeye, eggs and French Fries. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and egg whites. While I'm not a huge red meat eater, I tasted a piece of the hubs ribeye and it was nicely prepared. My avocado toast was yummy to the nth degree! Everything was perfect. The avocado was precisely cut and at the right level of softness. The salmon was chopped into tiny little squares and so enjoyable to eat. We could not be more pleased. With a name like Rosé Gosé you would expect their drinks to be superb. My hubby ordered a hibiscus tea, which was delightful. I ordered a mimosa that had high quality ingredients and was perfectly balanced...so smooth. We were also pleased with the drinks. This was the first time at Rosé Gosé, however, it definitely will not be the last.

I had been seeing high ratings for Blue Daliah Bistro and my husband and I decided to give it a try for breakfast. The place is somewhat quaint, the server was attentive. As we were looking at the menu we didn't see much for good harty breakfast, mostly lots of sweets. We ended sharing the croissants with gravy and adding a couple of eggs, it was good but nothing special. We also decided to share their waffle with fruit, neither one of us cared for them at all. They were not hot, they were dipped in some kind of sugar coating, and with the syrup it was a sugar overload. In addition the butter that came with the waffles were hard and cold, I would not recommend them at all. I like hot waffles, hot butter and syrup. We paid over $50 including the tip, we both that it was a little pricey for what you got.

A destination Georgian restaurant…read more The best Eastern European food in Austin since the legendary Russian House on East 5th Street. Russian House was known for good Russian food and amazing infused vodkas. Sami Sumeli has amazing Georgian food and good infused vodkas. I am an infused vodka maniac - so I weigh the quality of infused vodkas very highly in my ratings. But the food here is so damm good, And because homemade infused vodkas that are actually good are hard to find (I'm talking to YOU, Buzz Mill!) I will take A+++++ food and B+ vodkas any day of the week. * * * It is possible to do Eastern European food or Caucasus food and do dumplings dumplings dumplings and dumplings. This is like going to Hong Kong and doing dim sum dim sum dim sum and dim sum. Sami Sumeli has plenty of dumplings. And yes, they are very good. In my humble opinion, covering food with dough often masks the taste of the fillings within. So, I tend to go for the naked dishes. The naked dishes at Sami Sumeli are outstanding. * * * Among the many stars of this fine establishment are: a) Awesome herring with awesome potatoes. Herring is an ingredient quality play, even if you are going to do the marinating yourself. Sami Sumeli serves the good stuff. If the potatoes are good too, that is a kitchen skill thing. b) Beet balls and spinach balls served next to each other. People don't cook enough beets or eat enough beets. c) Eggplant rolls to die for. Eggplant rolls ... you say. "What the heck are those?" Only one way to find out .... heh heh. But you definitely want the eggplant rolls. d) Kharcho soup which is a beef, tomato and noodle soup. There are many regional variations on beef soup in this part of the world. Russia House's beef soups were "that's nice dear". I had thought that the best Eastern European beef soup I have ever had was at Chayhana Oasis. This is a nominally Uzbek, de facto Russian establishment in Sunny Isles Beach, just north of Miami. Chayhana Oasis is an extraordinary restaurant. The Kharcho Soup at Sami Sumeli is even better. Believe me when I say Chayhana Oasis is a huge benchmark to beat. e) An equally outstanding braised and very wet chicken and tomato concoction. f) Rye bread to dip in that tomato sauce when you run out of chicken. Even better than the chicken because the rye bread is superb. g) Bird milk cake with chocolate on top. Milking birds is a unique Georgian skill. Most countries have no idea how to milk birds. They just roast the meat or scramble the eggs. Getting genuine bird milk is a treat, Which is why you have to go to Georgian restaurants. (Okay, before I get comments on this review from biology professors or the Audobon society, Georgian bird milk does not come from milking birds. It is slang for burnt milk or scalded milk.) That said, with enough infused vodka in you, Milking birds actually sounds reasonable. h) A honey cake to die for. Zero cloying - which is the traditional issue with honey cakes. i) An absolutely outstanding to-die-for chocolate cake. The house claims it is a chocolate apricot cake. I think that means they showed the batter an apricot before putting the apricot back into the fruit basket. But for chocolate cake this good, they can call it caviar chocolate cake or bird feather chocolate cake if they want. Just get me three slices of it, and I will think about whether I want a fourth. * * * A quick note on the infused vodkas. Russian House's vodkas were full of taste, but they were suave. You could drink long strings of them because each one was smooth and mellow. Sami Sumeli's infused vodkas are strong in both senses of the word. I suspect the alcohol content is higher. Intoxication hit quickly and lasted longer. The taste is also much much stronger And it goes down much much rougher. The champion thug on the list is the horseradish vodka. Russian House's horseradish vodka was a taste accent. This is like taking a whole tablespoon of horseradish in your mouth with every sip. The vodka picks you up and throws you across the room. The fruit vodkas don't put up as much of a fight, But they are still double strong the way the horseradish vodka is. The staff at Russian House used to argue that the best way to drink infused vodka was on ice to open up the flavor, and mellow out the drink. I always took my shots straight just on general principles. Here, I can really see doing these infused vodkas on ice. Russian House had over 100 flavors of vodka. Sami Sumeli has five or six. But with ice and in moderation, these can be decent drinks. * * * Or you can ignore the drinking and just go wild over great soup, great chicken and desserts to die for. Even if you don't live any where near Cedar Park, you have to get up here. This is one of the best eating experiences in Central Texas.

For those who fondly remember the gone-but-not-forgotten Russia House in downtown Austin, Sami Sumeli is a more than worthy successor. - Georgian cuisine is known for its bold flavors, fresh herbs, walnuts, cheese, and bread, and it stands apart from traditional Russian fare. Sami Sumeli does an outstanding job showcasing these flavors, with a menu full of richly seasoned appetizers and expertly prepared entrées. _ On this visit, I convinced a Yelp OG and his lovely wife to brave the traffic and make the trek to Cedar Park for dinner. We proceeded to order enough food for six people, but here are the highlights. _ We kicked things off with flights of infused vodkas. The horseradish vodka definitely cleared the sinuses, while the cherry and sweeter varieties were smooth and surprisingly rich. Beware, these are stronger than they taste. _ For appetizers, we sampled the salted herring over potatoes with a touch of onion, eggplant rolls stuffed with cilantro, garlic, walnuts, and pomegranate seeds, and a side of sour cabbage that was much milder than expected. We all were impressed how the spices complemented the main ingredients. Nothing overpowered the dish. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Khinkali. These oversized Georgian dumplings are filled with savory broth and your choice of pork, beef, or cheese and mushrooms. The proper technique is to pick them up by hand, take a bite, and sip the broth before diving in. - For entrées, we ordered the Beef Shashlik, featuring marinated and grilled skewers that were unbelievably tender, and the Chakhokhbili, a rich dish of chicken simmered with tomatoes, onions, herbs, and served with rice. Both dishes were easily five-star worthy. - And yes, we saved room for dessert, too much dessert. The Honey Cake, with its layers of caramelized honey sponge and sour cream frosting, was light and refreshing. The Bird Milk Cake combines caramel-honey cake, white chocolate cream, dulce de leche, and prunes for a delicious dessert. Finally, the European Chocolate Cake, a rich cake, with an equally rich chocolate glaze. _ If you're adventurous enough to try something different, you'll be rewarded. We'll be back for sure. Pro tip: They accept reservations
