Delicious coffee and friendly staff! I was delighted by the interior space. Its quiet if you work from home and are seeking a place to take a few calls without distracting music. Would recommend! read more

I just got bacon and eggs, aka carte. The ingredients tasted amazingly fresh. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars is because they do not offer any gluten-free bread and potatoes are available only on weekends. The service was fast and the staff was pleasant. I will return. read more

A few years ago I remember a city council member, Brewster McCracken, tout his efforts and contribution during the 90s in helping update and "beautify" the city's shopping centers. Coming from El Paso, it was odd flex, one cause I was used to ugly shopping centers and two because I didn't even know they needed to look nice... Fast forward to 2022 and observe what we now consider to be the standard and bland design for the exterior of Ovenbird. Ole Brewster would gush if you asked him (he's still around, actually). While the setting lacks character and a homely feel, the quality of the food and the people at Ovenbird made up for it. The wife had the hoppel poppel, which was a welcomed combo of flavors and textures. I'd like to give myself credit for ordering the duck fat potatoes but I didn't, but I did help myself to some. I had the breakfast sandwich, the sausage and pesto one. I guess I never thought about pesto in a breakfast context so it took me a bit to appreciate it. All that said, the execution was there on all the plates, very well done. While I hope they continue to expand their menu, because I think they will execute well on anything they add, I definitely recommend it. read more

Food great, staff super friendly, drinks were fast, coffee was one of a kind! This is a scratch kitchen, even their syrups are made in-house. The patio is lovely and inviting, weather was great today! I would recommend this place to friends. I would return for the coffee for sure! 2 coffees and a breakfast sandwich runs about $30 for price reference. read more

Reuben was pretty good and staff was really nice. Only thing, I took the recommendation of the staff and ordered the BLT. They used extra thick cut bacon which was really fatty and it was extremely greasy. Quite generous amount of bacon which I usually don't complain about but it really chewy and grease was dripping from my sandwich. read more

Cute little breakfast and coffee spot on South Congress! Space is open and airy, nice aesthetic and not too noisy. Nice staff. Would be a pleasant space to work - they have free WiFi. Easy parking too. Indoor and outdoor seating at big picnic tables. The coffee was super well done, very smooth. I got an iced latte. I had the breakfast tacos on rye tortillas - the bacon is more like pork belly, and the rye gives the tacos a unique flavor. My family got the standard breakfast and loved the marble rye toasts and jelly. Great little addition to the neighborhood, will definitely be back. read more

I'm so glad I live so close because their pastries are delicious and their cold brew is just right. The taco is out of this world. Love the bacon chunks, the unique tortilla and the delicious green sauce. The eggs are done right also. They're creamy and set. Not oily and fluffy like some other places. read more

The coffee latte with lavender syrup was super good! Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is great for study/work calls. Very cute!

Food: The Bacon Quiche and accompanying Salad were both excellent. The undercooked scrambled eggs could not be eaten. The menu is broad with many interesting choices. The cappuccinos are exceptional. Service: Food was delivered to our table. Ordering was interestingly done with a QR code; one pays at the time of ordering. All worked the first time, but our second order was not received in the kitchen and we had to re-order after realizing the food was not coming. Ambiance: The restaurant is in an attractive, new building with both inside and outside seating. The patio tables have umbrellas, but the chairs are very uncomfortable. The patio is a large, pleasant place with greenery. This is a good restaurant with need for attention to details such as relocating an overflowing shopping cart stored prominently against the front of the restaurant. read more

I can't get enough of this place. The food is out of this world. I love the creativity of the menu. Today I had the most insanely delicious key lime overnight oats. My 13 year old son and I were fighting over it. The spot is my favorite breakfast and coffee spot in Austin. read more

So tasty, so fun, such a nice atmosphere. Went on a weekend morning and we were a bit worried it would be hard to find a place to seat but there was enough tables available. The shakshuka taco was delicious! Messy, but worth it. My husband had the standard breakfast and he enjoyed it. His favorite part was the pour over special blend coffee he ordered, he said it was one of the best coffees he's had. I enjoyed the watermelon matcha. Definitely will be back! read more

This place was 10/10!! Stumbled upon this place when we had been wanting coffee and some brunch. The coffee was AMAZING. The Reuben sandwich was very delicious and the chicken soup was so good I wanted to drink it!! I will definitely be coming back here more often now that I know how close I live to it. read more

This place was extremely good and the coffee was great! I ordered the standard breakfast with overeasy eggs, bacon and sourdough toast. Eggs were slightly over cooked but still delish, the bacon...OMG it was super think cut and so good, a bit greasy (it could've been wiped up some) and the sourdough was so soft and flavorful with homemade jam. I ordered a decaf iced coffee and they made a fresh cup for me right then. Pastries looked great and the customer service was good. Definitely recommend, nothing disappointed. read more

I enjoyed my mint chocolate coffee but the breakfast sandwich was not good. I don't eat pork and they didn't have any pork substitute options. The bread was stale/too hard on the outside but was soft on the inside. The sauce was overwhelming for just egg and bread. Bavarian Croissant read more

Great tacos and amazing homemade pop-tarts!

Great new place for coffee on far South Congress. Not your usual pastry items. Yes, some cinnamon involved, but some delish savory items, like the bacon egg brioche. It had an everything bagel assortment of seasoning sprinkles on it. Get it warmed up. Outside was sightly crunchy, interior stuff and light. It was delicious. The coffee was excellent. Beans roasted by Figure 8. Great to see Figure 8 provisioning other shops. They pull their shots on a Slayer. Not too many shops running these beasts. This is not a run of the mill coffee shop. With some stuff competition in good coffeeshops, these guys stand out. read more

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. The food was really good, but the portions are for sure not worth the price you pay. The service was adequate. Came here today for the first time and watched the Manager be utterly rude and disrespectful to a man with his service dog. Told him he wasn't allowed in or welcomed with his dog. New to the neighborhood weekend to explore lock haunts. Saturday breakfast, let's check out ovenbird. Don't have a sweet tooth and going to what I thought was a simple bakery/Coffee place. Asked for suggestions from the friendly counter gal. The breakfast sandwich. Nailed it. Perfect in every way with bacon and my preference non runny fried egg. Inhaled it. Not a driving meal as it can be a little messy but perfect nonetheless. Open airy , natural light lit place with outdoor seating. My new breakfast stop. read more

This is definitely a cute spot with lots of room. I'll be back mostly because the pastry was out of this world! So flakey!! I thought my sandwich was ok but, in their defense, I had to order it without the meat so it wasn't eaten as designed. However, I had to order it that way since there were no meatless options for sandwiches, which is one of the reasons it's a 4 not a 5. The one other reasons are (1) no decaf espresso. Ok Le decaf isn't fun but I'm pregnant and need to limit my caffeine. The other reason for the 4 is that the service was so-so. The person at the register didn't smile once and seemed a bit annoyed with my questions. My husband thought his sandwich and taco were both excellent! read more

I ate lunch here with my family. We had just got off the highway from traveling and pulled into this little place. The interior is phenomenal, beautifully modern and above all, clean. I ordered a Hot Chai Latte and a Romanian Honey Twist. Both were delicious, my missing star lies in the twist being hard and cold. There was no offer to warm it up either. My latte was delicious and hot, there was a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Overall, great place. Really well rounded coffee haus. read more

I stopped in for a coffee on a Sunday morning. The line moved quickly and the coffee bar had a short turnaround time for beverages. The barista was very friendly and recommended the Lavender Peanut Butter latte and it was amazing - strong natural peanut butter flavor without being overpowering! They mentioned that this is a limited/seasonal flavor, so I highly recommend stopping by and trying it! This was my favorite coffee during my visit and I will definitely be back to try other beverages and some food! read more

Great food and coffee. A bit expensive for what you get, but worth at least trying it.

After a dozen disappointments I had to write a review. I've literally had to throw away things I have purchased here more times than not, so I need to say something at this point. I truly wanted to love this place. I'm a coffee addict, and I live far south, so this is the closest coffee shop to me. I was eagerly awaiting their opening. I have been at least a dozen times by this point. The food and drinks are extremely inconsistent. I have had a good cup of coffee twice. That's 2 out of 12 times. The other 10 times I have had to throw away the $5 beverage. I always order an almond milk latte. I never know what I will get here. The cups are small, the size for a cappuccino, not a latte. The almond milk has been chunky or pulpy and/or sour. I'm not even joking!! The milk absolutely ruins the drink. When I've asked for an alternative, they tell me they only have cashew, which is house made. Please just buy a barista blend or something, the non-dairy milk is terrible. The food is the other inconsistent disappointment. Again, I have only been happy with the food 2 out of 12 times. And it seems to be whenever they release something new. After that, I'm guessing the pastry is made by someone else, and it falls flat. The hand pies are all crust and no filling. So, I never got one of those again. The first time I had a sochniki it was delicious! Full of sweet cheese custard. However, the second and third time I ordered a sochniki? Meh. All bread, no filling. The first time I ordered a sweet pretzel, also amazing! It was large and soft and buttery. The second time? It was tiny and hard and stale. The next time I saw them in the case they looked tiny and burned again, so no dice. I may keep trying, because of convenience. But I have never been more consistently disappointed in a cafe in Austin. I gave them 3 stars, because of the couple of good moments. read more

Excellent coffee. Food menu is a bit pricey for that area of town, but they specialize in coffee and espresso drinks.

Came across this place this past weekend after noticing it on Austin Chronicles first plates list so decided to give it a shot for breakfast. Located in south Austin right before William Cannon sits this modern European cafe. The first thing I noticed was the bakery case which honestly everything looked amazing. I decided to give their homemade s'mores and peach pop tarts a shot to go and decided to stay and eat the breakfast menu. I went with the breakfast sandwich which comes in bacon and sausage and my partner went with the tacos. The sandwich was messy but great and it definitely had German influences with the beer cheese and pretzel bun. Overall it was good but a little salty for my taste. As for the tacos they were a bit easier to eat and the homemade rye tortillas was a nice touch as my partner described all. I would love to come back and try their lunch menu as that looked pretty appetizing as well. Great to see some new food places popping up in the south Austin area. read more

I wanted to like this spot and was excited to try it but sadly I left disappointed. I don't mind paying good money for great product but nothing we got (3 pastries & two lattes) was very good and the price was high. Also the service- it was a slow day in there with customers and somehow was unorganized and they didn't do our order to go like we requested. I wish I could say better things about ovenbird. I'll have to try again to see if it was an off day but it's not a place I would frequent. read more

Pretty disappointed in this place. My friends and I came in and 1. Took more than 30 min to get my food & the people forgot about me and I had to ask where my sandwich was... no sense of urgency or apologetic. But the food is what was beyond disappointing. We got: 1. Breakfast sandwich- which was so underwhelming! The sausage had no seasoning and the eggs tasted like absolutely nothing! The only thing that had taste was the pesto. Def did not expect it to be this sub par. 2. Hopple Popple - is what my 3 friends got- the meat was chewy, tasteless. The potato's were okay but again, not worth the price. 3. French toast: way tooooooo much syrup and very basic for $15. This place is way too expensive for what the food is... it was very disappointing. read more

The food initially was great...HOWEVER the blackberry jam is made of blackberries AND strawberries but listed simply as blackberry jam. I am allergic to strawberries. I began having symptoms and asked the manager if the jam was blackberry as advertised (knowing something was already wrong but trying to identify what was happening). She said it sometimes is a mix and was unsure of the ingredients today for the blackberry jam. I said they should note this on their menu - that it isn't just blackberry jam. The manager went back to making someone's coffee and walked away from me. Total disregard, completely rude and blown off. If the owner is reading this, your mid-morning manager on 11/16 needs training in customer service, manners and simple compassion!!!!!! I am thankful for benadryl!!!!! read more
