Getting a proper coffee-cation was amazing! Doing a full tasting of bad, defective, commercial, and good coffee along with seeing how the beans are actually roastes and then tasting the different stages of roasting was just an incredible learning experience! The concept and execution of Casa Brasil from hand painted coffee bags to roast to order beans, this place is a coffee mecca for the novice to the aficionado! But I tried my 3rd package of Little City coffee, (shipped from this address on their website) and though good coffee, it is simply not a dark enough roast for my espresso. I tried Messenger Espresso the first time, many months ago and was underwhelmed. The beans were just not dark enough, shiny enough nor oily enough for the sort of espresso shot I like to pull. They made perfectly passable drip coffee in a pour-over, but I am a 99% espresso guy. Recently I took advantage of a 20% discount and rapid delivery (next day! Arrived on Monday, ordered Sunday!) to try the two darkest roasts offered, Grackle and Republic. Again, passable drip coffees, but not able to produce the thick rich crema and distinctive oily mouthfeel and toasted flavor notes I was looking for. Great fast to the door delivery and good prices (though for a 12oz package, compare carefully) and as I noted, pretty good coffee, but I will return to the Italian espresso (occasionally mixed 75/25 with French Roast) from my usual roaster Anderson's to feed my Gaggia Classic Pro.

My black cherry, vodka based drink was so good. It was sweet, and cherry flavored. Loved it. Thought I would only have 1 so I closed out my tab. I ended up getting a second one. But my friend treated me to my second. My friend also got the frozen coffee something. I didn't take a picture of the menu, and forgot what he got. I did have a sip of it, and wow, was that good. I need to come back here again, cause the food truck was great, the drinks were fantastic, and the whole area outside was perfect. I do have a friend coming to visit, so maybe we can come back and I can show her around.

Austin is known for having a lot of coffee, but very few have identifiable differentiators. Merfolk's creates coffee flavors based on fantasy lore, so you honestly never know what the special menu will have. That's why we keep spending our money there. Many of the drinks are sweet but the staff is more than happy to make adjustments as needed! The ambiance is also so cute and whimsical. Upon walking in, the place had a decent amount of ppl inside but still had ample seating. I like the fact that they have cool tea blends as well. They were yummy but it wasn't anything I would rave about. They have board games you can play with, so we played a few rounds of break the ice lol. I was slightly let down by the decor tho I won't lie. I guess I was expecting more fantasy elements or themes, but it was mostly like antlers and wheels on the wall. They did have a cool giant mural though.

They're known for their signature moon milk, which is a sweetened milk they use in a bunch of their drinks. I really like it. It has a unique flavor, and I appreciate that you can customize how sweet you want your coffee. They offer different sweetness levels (¼, 1/2, ¾, and full), as well as "whisper" sweetness, which is just . It's a great option if you prefer your coffee just a little sweet. Our usual order is the Whisper Wintermoon, and it's consistently good. Their coffee is solid, and the moon milk adds a lovely, light sweetness without being overpowering. I've also tried their iced matcha, which is fine, but I wouldn't necessarily come here specifically for it. They sometimes have breakfast tacos in the mornings from a local vendor, and those have been pretty good too. All in all, Summer Moon is a coffee shop we've enjoyed for a long time. Good coffee, a unique take on sweetened drinks, and plenty of locations around Austin.

Of course I was there for a latte spiked with black sesame vanilla (their most popular latte) according to my barista, which I paired with an almond bear claw. This was not your typical bear claw as it was not eye-squinting sweet but bursting with almond flavoring primarily in the center. It was almost like a crescendo in a symphony when you got to the center of the bear claw. My latte was flavorful in a subtle way with the sesame vanilla permeating throughout the latte. It is important to note that they make their own pastries and tacos each day. The pastries are a bit pricey costing more than my latte. The coffee shop has floor to ceiling windows on two sides with one of the windows opening into a courtyard with additional seating. The beautifully titled coffee bar immediately grabs your attention.
