I had heard from a friend that the proteins here were dry. I'm so glad I decided to try it for myself. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the moist brisket and I also liked the turkey. I have never ordered turkey at a barbecue place, or anywhere for that matter, previously. They gave me a sample that changed my mind on turkey. They soak theirs in butter. Genius! Butter makes everything better. My husband said their burger was one of the best he's ever had: they had him at bourbon glaze! The potato salad was excellent, the fries were too skinny & salty, and the okra was perfectly coated/crunchy, but also too salty. ...And we like salt. Hey all. The outpost is now offering the horizon menu. You can get your favorites. You have the option to sit down with a waitress or to order at counter and sit. Third option is an elegant restaurant for steak but they will allow ordering of any menu item from there. Bottom line. You like quiet, sit in steak section. Otherwise sit down and order. It's a bit confusing and they need to work out the kinks and solidify the menu and restaurant name as one but the food from horizon is still good. The food from bbq is also good. It gives your guests a little of both worlds. We enjoyed it. read more

We were so lucky to get a personal tour of the smokers "Willie and Waylon and the boys". The food was great, but the experience was incredible. We will remember this day for a long time. read more

Wonderful experience! We were going to go to Horizon and then discovered it is now merged with Outpost 36. We didn't think Outpost had table service, which we prefer, but they actually have the option of ordering at the counter or full sit-down service. We had a terrific waitress (a former singer) who was very helpful and knowledgeable about various options. I had the one meal plate with scrumptious moist brisket, the largest baked potato I've ever seen and cold slaw. I had to take a to-go container, something I've almost never done before. It was too good to leave! We also learned there's a more formal adjoining dining room now open with top steaks, sea bass and other entrees that sounded fantastic as described by our waitress. The main Outpost's ambiance is a step up from many BBQ restaurants, although still casual. We look forward to returning! read more

I've eaten BBQ from everywhere in DFW an I have to admit this place can hang with the best of them. I'd been seeing this place pop up all over Facebook for the past month or so and I kept stalling for whatever reason but man was it worth the wait. First off this place is absolutely beautiful they've done a great job very roomy with a chill hangout kind of vibe very inviting upon entrance. Huge screens with a easily readable menu just makes you wanna try one of everything. Service was spot on I was greeted immediately upon entrance an asked if I need help with the menu. I ordered 2 3 meat plates and a 1/2 pound of turkey so I could try pretty much everything. Not a single complaint everything was delicious the brisket and turkey were spot on with flavor an just melted in your mouth. The ribs had a clean bite through with just great flavor and was super juicy . The chicken was smoked to prefection I could eat that skin all day by itself(fat noises). The pulled pork an burnt ends were very flavorful and moist also some great flavors in each bite. The sides were really good I was absolutely surprised how good the pinto beans were I mean they were really really good. Mac an cheese pretty str8 forward for a BBQ joint but still good. Okra was good and Crunchy. I not a huge fan of elote but my wife is and she said it was excellent. The absolute sleeper hit here was the chicken an queso taquitos man you get 4 with 3 dipping sauces you get I could've easily eaten 8. Flavor bomb in each bite. By the time I got to the Banana Pudding I had eaten way to much to enjoy the way I should've the couple spoons I had were the perfect ending to this meal. I will definitely be going back overall the price is normal for good bbq in DFW I especially have to go back cause I wanna try the Dino beef ribs Fri and Saturday only. read more

First time trying this spot, Friday night at 730pm...usually a bad idea for BBQ since they run out of things. Place was fairly packed, appeared most tables were done, just hanging out. Board showed they were out of several items (ribs, chicken, sausage) so I had some concerns about what was left... Attendant advised still had lots of brisket, burnt ends and turkey. I went for the turkey and a side of mac n cheese. Took a seat and waited for buzzer to indicate food was ready to be picked up. It took a little while to prep food, not an issue, just not like most BBQ spots where you leave the counter with your food after paying. Turkey was (still) juicy and had a good smokey flavor. Not over the top smokey, just right honestly. Mac n cheese was excellent. It's thick, but it was very good. I wasn't overly hungry going in, so the turkey was perfect for this visit. Our food overall was good except: the coleslaw could be improved as it didn't have much flavor and the pulled pork was dryyy! How does a restaurant have dry pulled pork ‍‍. The brisket was really good, it had nice marbling and cooked really well. The beans were good as the macaroni and cheese. They only have beef ribs on the weekends so we want to go back to try that. Improve on the coleslaw and pulled pork and I would gladly upgrade to 5 . I would be happy to share my coleslaw recipe. It's clear no one in Fort Worth can make good slaw. read more

Our first time dining here. The place is big & clean looking. Good menu options. Had the smokehouse burger & okra & smoked brisket tacos. All tasted very good. It's not a burger you can eat with your hands though. You need a fork & knife. Our only complaint is...all the food was very greasy. First time here and was very impressed with the atmosphere and was curious how they would redo it from the prior restaurant, nailed it. Now the important part, the food. I will first start out with the organization to get your order put in. It was very good. We ordered ribs, pulled pork, burnt pork ends, brisket, and sausage. A lot of meat I know! However, we were given 4 onions and 5 pickles. You would think we would get once of the sauce containers filled with onions and pickles. The brisket had fat on it, which my husband said is usually removed, and it was a little dry. Sorry, it was, I just want to be honest. I know it was their opening week, and there is room for improvement, so I hope so. I had high hopes. I love hard 8 and spring creek, and their patio area is so cool that I was pumped. Needless to say, the rib meat did not fall off the bone, and the sausage was not sliced. This could be the way they serve it. No worries. Sausage was decent Pulled pork was very nice. The burnt pork ends were the highlight. We loved those. It was very delicious and not overly smoked. The armadillo egg is a hard pass. Super tough on outside and inside, just all pushed out when you tried to bite it and super super smokey. Potato salad was good. Thought I ordered one thing and not the other but problem was neither was there, confirming that they did not check the order. To slow of a time not to check and make sure when it's rush hour. 2nd time! Great Food but terrible service So the first time we came, food was amazing but witnessed Chef coming out of kitchen and completely humiliated counter staff. This time we sat at the bar, and the bartender ( I can only call him Captain Jack because his beard had things woven in) we asked him how much daily special was but he said he had no idea, but my gosh he couldn't figure out much of anything including how to use our credit card to pay the bill. Chef Dwight did it again! I love the aesthetics of his newest baby, Outpost 36, when you pull up you know you're in for BBQ, the big smoker outside, the remodeled building (used to be Golden Corral) and the huge bronze steer by the entrance make sure you know that you're in for a treat. Hubs got the smoked tenderloin, baked potato, and green beans. Let me start with saying that I REALLY WISH, it wasn't set up like the chain, corporate style, cattle hearding cue. There are big menu boards over the cash wrap, where you stand in a long line and can't really see the signage until much closer, turns out that no one in my particular family had 20/20 vision, and there's a glare from the lighting, coupled with a black board and chalk type sign makes it very difficult to know what it says. It's a pretty big frustration for me. So we asked for a menu so we could sit anyway, and decided. Yeah, no menus, we were hoping they might have a take out menu. So we went and found a table and pulled it up online. So back to my husbands tenderloin. It was shredded, stringy, like really overly shredded pulled pork or something. The taste was good, and he liked it, but was hoping to love it. I got the mild sausage, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. The Mac & Cheese is life changing, no joke, I wish I would have gotten double Mac, even though the green beans were delicious too. Oh, it only took about 7-8 minutes for our order to be ready. I didn't know where to go to get it, there were plenty of staff members, the cashier was so busy since he was the only one taking orders, and had to talk so much about bringing the receipt back to get $5 off or 15%, such a trooper, he has great customer service skills, but I couldn't make eye contact with anyone, and I'm an introvert so there I was looking to get someone to see that I was holding my flashing disk and then I spotted our order, it was next to the guy taking the orders, but the customers were all standing around in a semi circle so I couldn't see it. I wish there was a sign that says "pick up food here" so anyway, did I mention how amazing the Mac n' cheese was? Like I can't stop thinking about it. What was odd was that the sausage was cold. Not ice box cold, but like, it hadn't been near warmth for awhile. This was Saturday 2/3/24 12:30pm so busy but not slammed. Anyway, the flavor of the sausage was good, and I really could tell that it wasn't your run of the mill, order from Sysco foods or any other restaurant vendor, it was wonderful and hearty. I noticed that there is a meeting room, large enough for a rehearsal dinner, or party, and the ambiance was very Texan, so perfect really :) they had a nice looking bar, self serve colas and tea, and the restrooms were clean. Y'all already know BBQ prices are high, so for 2 lunched 1 meat, 2 sides, and 2 non alcoholic beverages we dropped $54.23. I need some interaction with this post. At no time from start to finish did we get personalized service, but yet I'm expected to tip the staff. Why? Seriously it's a legitimate question. The thing is, as owners you create your POS payment system, so that means you're ok with making your customers feel awkward and obligated to tip someone that should be paid standard wages and not server/agricultural pay. I'm so bothered by the audacity of higher end establishments doing this that I'm becoming more selective in where I dine. It makes sense across the parking lot at H-76, you have servers there. Ok, I really want this to be everyone's favorite BBQ place, and it has the potential to do so, a little more organization with the getting in the door procedure, the place is humongous, so there's room to cue people up with stanchions that make a zig zag line if you're completely married to making people stand in line like at a concession stand, but can you imagine how great it would be if customers could come in, order a drink, look at a menu with PHOTOS, so they knew exactly what they were ordering. One other question, so I have ordered my food, now do I have to go stand in another line at the bar and wait again for service? See? Keller loves being pampered, it's the culture, I really hope you'll consider sit down dining with servers, the employees would make great money, the customers would spend more thru alcohol, and maybe dessert, but if I have to keep standing in line I'm probably not going to do it. Our family had a great time! We were greeted when we walked in. Being a native Texan, I was thrilled with the decor. The Big Ole Baker was baked to perfection, I got a generous portion of brisket and the side items. My husband got the Smokeouse Burger and LOVED it. The fries were cooked in Beef Tallow..yum. My food was delivered by a young man in 5-10 minutes. What was weird is he asked me if I had foot pain and that God told him to speak with me about it. Tried Outpost 36 for the first time today- came for the smoked filet but on a Sunday night and being closed on Monday, they were out. Completely understandable! After splitting the meats with a friend, we had the brisket and smoked turkey. So great! I chose flavorful elote and an absolutely amazing Mac and cheese. And then we spoke to the owner who managed to have some filet leftover but not enough for a portion. I will be coming back for that (and the sides again).
