We always love a local brewery. This small brewery has a windmill out back that aids in the brew making process. The high price for a beer was probably the biggest downer that we experienced here. We were seated quickly on a Tuesday evening. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I got the fresh catch grilled mahi sandwich. It was delicious. Hubby got the fish and chips. Also very good. Waitress brought us a hot green salsa that is made in house. It had a "kick" and added some deliciousness to my fish sandwich. We would stop by again when we are in Outer Banks. Hands down the best place we have eaten in the OBX! Party of 5 was able to find something they like on the menu and enjoyed their food. Cherry on top- this is a dog friendly restaurant. They offer indoor and outdoor dinning and we opted to eat outside in the patio. The weather was perfect for outdoor seating. Lots of green space, picnic tables with umbrellas available. They offer a section which has sand instead of grassy area. This is also a kid friendly restaurant as they offer a fun pirate ship where the kids can play. Tables are 6 feet apart. Really nice ambiance when you dine outdoors. We ordered fish and chips, fried shrimp, Cuban sandwich and a yard bird chicken sandwich and shared their big pretzel as an app. I ordered a Kill Devil Rum punch and Vienna Lager. As a visitor to the OBX this seems like a nice chill place. We actually came twice during our week long stay, once for lunch outside and once for dinner inside. FYI, if sitting outside you can seat yourself and you have to walk up to the bar to place food and drink orders. I didn't have beers since I'm not a beer drinker but had a bottled rose and the smoked pineapple habenero margarita. Both were great! For food we had the Beast burger, wings, fish and chips, and hush puppies. Everything was great. The burger was nice and juicy and the fried fish was crisp. I also had a side Caesar salad which was only ok, the dressing was not my favorite. I also liked that the kids chicken strips meal was a good portion. The drafts are rotating so much it's hard to keep a fave. The lemongrass is great. For cocktails, I love the strawberry smash with KDH pecan rum! Apps: it's pub fare so you'll find giant pretzels, fried jalapeños, crab dip! All are so good. Entrees: huge portions. Just keep that in mind. We split an entree and it was MORE THAN ENOUGH for the two of us because we had a lot of drinks too. Dessert: THE STAR OF THE SHOW! We've been coming here for years during our OBX favorites and try not to miss a year. We have been here several times. It is always good. Our waitress was busy but still attentive. We got the giant pretzel with cheese sauce. It is giant and so good. I am a fan of the salad as my main, it isn't fancy but tastes really good with the right amount of crunch from the nuts. One person at the table got a burger and really liked it. Visited over the weekend and got a great light tangerine drink! We sat inside at the bar since there was a storm. Perhaps going outside would have been a better experience. The bartender took our drink orders and with only having had poured two drinks, he literally forgot which was which. Service made this 4 Stars! So you're in the OBX and want a local brew and a bite to eat. OBBD may just be your spot. The first Wind Powered brewery in the US is located right here in NC brewing not only beer but Root Beer as well! We did have about a 45 minute wait when we arrived. No problem. We grabbed some beer, conversed with a bartender then went out back. They have a large outdoor waiting area that I've since found out is a music venue for touring acts to visit. Our server ended up being that bartender I mentioned earlier and she was on point. I wish I remembered her name but she said she was new. OBBS should throw her some love! Our food arrived pretty quick. The salads were good. I mean it's hard to screw one up. The Giant Pretzel was giant and actually impressed me. Served with mustard, it had that classic brown outside with a soft, chewy inside and was fantastic by itself. The Cheese Dip that you can get with it is the same thing you get for your nachos at other places. The Cuban Sandwich was assembled between 2 good sized pieces of bread. Tasting good the assembly was sloppy. Most of one ingredient on this side with most of another over here. From the looks of it this place is a consistently hoppin' spot. We went in the afternoon for a drink when the restaurant is open and the place is kid friendly, then we went back at night when the building is transformed into a nightclub with a DJ. Solid 4 stars. While brewery choices in the area are slim (as are most things because of the nature of the area) I was not blown away by it. I would still visit it again and recommend that you, dear reader, also try it out. Beers: everything I tried was good, but nothing was amazing. They definitely do good work though. They were a little pricey, but almost everything is in OBX. Staff: the waiter was nice, but nothing outstanding. Building/parking: the building is neat - reminiscent of an old lifesaving station. The inside bar is appealing and typical of what you imagine when you think of a beach bar. The parking is plentiful, just outside of the building. The bathrooms were clean. I think the windpowered brewery thing is an awesome idea and love that they have done this. I definitely recommend you check them out. read more

I LOVED this place. I cant stop talking about it. We came here during the pandemic. All was well. They were good about safety. They have an outdoor "hostess" window and they will let you know when something is available for outdoor or indoor. We came on a Saturday night and they had tables available outside surprisingly. We chose outdoor because it was a brewery. The patio is lovely. It gave you a secret garden, cozy feel. It is fenced wrapped with string lighting, nicely landscaped with patio tables fixed with umbrellas, all while being decently spaced out. We were so happy to find they had live music. The band was enclosed in this cute little garden enclave, which made for a safe experience between you and the band members. The service was great. Shout out to Jake for working hard and keeping the drinks flowing, especially in that humidity. We started off with beers, a pear margarita which was DELICIOUS and strong, and then ended with vodka cranberries. I really loved how they didn't skimp when it came to the liquor. I like to get what I pay for. The food? DELICIOUS. I ordered the Yardbird chicken sandwich with Cilantro aioli. When it came out, I yelped in excitement because it was a beer battered chicken fry, just like Arthurs Treachers ( now gone and one of my favorite places for beer battered chicken planks). We decided to give OBBS another try for a normal lunch, having had a mediocre brunch a few months ago. This is one of those places that I rate lower than "the boy". We have never been impressed by the beer of the food. This time Ms T had a cheeseburger. I decided to tempt fate and try their Cuban. She has to have her burgers with no pink, so she can't really blame them for its being dry. It was super charred. They don't salt the burgers at all, which would help. The patty at least did not appear to be a pre-formed one. I like the idea of a Cuban. It should be good and this one was better than most. I had a bad one at Blue Moon Beach Grill. Normally they have lame, tasteless ham and dry, stale roast pork. The ham here was just deli ham, but they solved the pork issue by using their barbecue. It was, in fact a decent sandwich, thanks to mayo and coarse mustard. The barbecue by itself would not make a good sandwich so I was glad I did not order that. It was fairly dry, has no smoke and what little seasoning it has is mostly cumin. And the slaw, which did not get eaten is red onions seasoned with a little cabbage. I never think to ask about onion in the slaw, because most places don't make this mistake. This was criminal. Three stars is generous for OBBS. This is the lowest three I can award without making it two. They seem to try too hard to be different, which is a fine intent, but they don't get much right. A-OK that goes with three stars does not apply here. read more

Came here with friends for lunch on a Saturday and it was a delight! No reservations, so we did have to wait which is unfortunate, but it was well worth it! They were packed and our server was running around like crazy but we still always felt taken care of. Now for the bad: This procedure was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Their burgers are a bit over priced, making you pay for literally every topping you add. Well, they had a burger on the special menu that was basically a loaded burger-bacon, cheese, bbq sauce for less than what it cost to build your own. Two of the girls in our party ordered that, then they came out and said they were out of that particular patty that the special burger was, and that if we wanted those toppings on a burger we'd have to build our own(and pay more for it). It seemed so silly that they couldn't just switch the patties out and keep the special going. (And how are you already out of a daily special at 1:00 pm??) read more

I must say though, the food was great! I had the hot pretzel which was really fresh tasting and the tuna stack which had great flavor but was a little different than expected. I'd 100% order both things again. Mom got the fried shrimp and she loved them too. Great night and would come back again. They have seating near the band area if you don't want to get a table and they have a playground for kids. Bonus is that they are dog friendly! We also had the key lime cheesecake for dessert which was super light and fluffy. The Chocolate lava cake was very rich and not overly sweet. We went to dinner around 6pm and of course there was a wait but unlike other places where you sit in your car or on a bench out front, OBBS has a fantastic space to wait in. Our back is a full bar, playground, and stage area. We had drinks and listened to live music while our kids played, it was a lot of fun. We waited less than the estimated time and sat in a booth near the bar. We had the mozzarella sticks (awesome with pesto drizzle) and giant pretzel with cheese (really good but why is the cheese so much extra?). For dessert we had carrot cake and a lava cake. The carrot cake was great but the lava cake lacked the lava - so disappointing - but was tasty, even if dry. We'll definitely go again on our next trip to the OBX. read more

Great spot, descent food, awesome beer. Bottom line up front: Awesome atmosphere, great dining area and great beer. The food was descent but not ground breaking. The building is very cool. Wood floors with a semi-dark lighting set up that makes it feel classy and sophisticated. We walked out back thinking our friends had a table and saw a huge outdoor area with a hostess (our friends were upstairs). We went to the second floor inside and the atmosphere was just as good. The room was quiet enough with great acoustics so I could hear my friend on the other side of the table. The food was good but nothing special. I got a steak sandwich that was made with prime rib slices with peppers and onions and cheese sauce. It was very similar to a mediocre cheesesteak. Overall food...meh. The beer however was good. I prefer porters, stouts, ambers, and browns (I hate IPAs). The porter was good and served cold. Good place, go there! read more

We are here twice during our vacation to OBX. Our first night we had the hushpuppies which were great, I had the fish and fries and they were delicious. Nice dry on the fish, but not too heavy. My husband had the shrimp and fries and enjoyed it. Our toddler had the chicken tenders and ate most of it :) I also ordered the Aperol Spritz and now want to recreate when I get home. Our second time there we split the giant pretzel. The mustards are excellent. I had the Scallop dinner meal and joined the clean plate club with that.
