Had a great experience on a Monday night. Bartender was friendly, professional but still easy-going in the right kind of way. It's just a little stuffy in the tasting room by the bar due to the brewing equipment just down the hall, but the outdoor yard and 2nd Floor patio deck were delightful alternatives. Hubby and I visited along with his brother and our sister-in-law. We all loved the variety of beer as well as the outdoor upper deck. The views were tough to beat! Absolutely wonderful while sipping flights. My favorite beer was the Bahama mama tried fruited sour with the as legend has it porter as a close second. There's some kind of storm brewing in his eyes Only veiled by a thin disguise (Maroon Five) Our hotel was super close to Swells'a Brewing, so we knew we'd visit before we moved on. We also knew that they didn't serve food, so we picked up some sandwiches in Duck, NC and carried them in. There are three general seating areas, small indoor ones upstairs and downstairs, and a large outdoor one upstairs. We chose the indoor upstairs room. Swells'a Brewing has a diverse beer list with IPAs, Sours, Pale Ales, Pilsners, Porters, Lagers, Stouts, and more. We are not hoppy IPA fans, so when we saw their lineup listened some "Light and Crushables" that seemed to be right in our strike zone. We went with a Hatty Light Czech-Style Pilsner Pilsner - Czech - 4.5% ABV and a Pea Island Pilsner Pilsner - 5.7% ABV. Sorry, but we were disappointed in the beers. I tried both and thought one was too sour and the other was too hoppy. Most definitely not "Light and Crushable" to my palate. Gotta give them a shout-out for their community service donations to "One Percent for the Planet". They annually donate 1% of gross sales to the three Outer Banks national parks. read more

We've driven by this a few times since it opened and never visited. Today we favor the first shot. We wanted to make sure we could bring our dog and it was great. I took Max inside and some of the patrons were all over him. The bartender was happy to pet and ask his name. Max was very happy. They have a beautiful outdoor area with plenty of seating and some shade which was great. My wife love the Pea Island Pilsner but especially the glass it came in. The glassware was varied so that was a win for her. I had Gypsy and the Head and enjoyed the Pale Ale and another ale that I don't recall. The only complaint would be lack of food items for those coming off the beach. If we knew we'd brought food but still a fun spot for our next visit. read more

This place has really improved in their beer selection from last year. They have a variety that includes IPAs, sours, porters, etc., and they even have wine available as well. Their sour and seltzer were available as a slushie too (I tried the sour, and it was delicious!). There's no kitchen, but they sell chips. I also heard they have a food truck sometimes. There's seating both indoors and outdoors, including an elevated patio. This is a great brewery addition to OBX. Looking forward to coming back! read more

Loved it here! Swells'a will definitely be one of my stops on every future OBX trip. I love that it is really geared towards adults. Many of the other breweries in the area cater to families whereas this one provides a high-class, gorgeously decorated experience for that older crowd. Service was fantastic and friendly. Only thing we felt was missed was any kind of games or something of the sort to keep us busy. Passed this brewery on our way to grab food while in KDH. So we had to double back and check it out. Inside and outside we saw several local vendors which was pretty cool. Items for sale included sunglasses, pottery, vintage records, t-shirts and glassware. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, upstairs and down. We sat up on the patio and enjoyed the views. I tried the hatty light which is labeled a blond but tastes like Pilsner. I drank it but I didn't like it. I did try the raspberry lime sweltzer and liked it more. They have several beers on tap which we were told rotate frequently. Bottom Line: Great beer brewed on site in a nice setting. Swells'A Brewing opened in 2021 and brews beachy beers. In addition to the on-site brewing operation they also have indoor and outdoor seating. On a hot August day my husband and I started with a flight before moving on to the Cream Ale and Under the Strawberry Moon Sour Beer. Although we didn't have any beyond our flight it is also worth mentioning that we both really enjoyed their Sea Donkey Saison. We sat in the shade on the second story deck before retreating indoors for air conditioning. Swells'A is strictly a brewery so plan to eat before or after your visit. They do offer some snacks but that menu is very limited and subject to availability. Swells'A has growlers and cans to go. They also have a few other beverage options in their cooler like sparkling water. Swells'A is a great addition to KDH and I look forward to returning and trying more beers. read more

After lunch my family and I were driving back to our beach house when we saw this brewery and had to stop by. All our beers were delicious and reasonably priced. We attracted us to this location was the roof top deck. We took our beers up and enjoyed them in the sunshine. They also have corn hole and out door seating on the lower level as well. We make this a regular stop a few times during our vacation week to the OBX. We she loved the Tropical Dude ranch and I love all of their beer. It smells amazing, like freshly cut wood. It's all very clean, super nice and accommodating staff. Very nice Kerch area, cool views into the brewery. Tons of seating inside and outside upstairs and downstairs. Welcome to our new neighbors! This fun, new brewery has popped up and is a great addition to the area. For the non-beer drinkers they have a watermelon margarita seltzer, a kombucha and wine! Apparently the seltzer color varies? I've had it clear and pink. With seating indoor and out -shade and non shade- there is a good amount of space. I can see this being enjoyable all year round. They only offer a pretzel as far as food so eat ahead. I've seen people bring in food, but I'd call to check to make sure that's okay. Hopefully they can get a food truck occasionally. I've been twice since open and it's been pretty busy each time. Not a huge parking lot so if you can walk or bike, that might be the easiest! read more

We were down on vacation to see friends and happened to come across this cool spot. The staff was very nice and helpful. Place seemed pretty busy but there's lots of seating inside and outside. We got a choice of 4 beers in our flights and took them outside to the upstairs patio. Some good views up there and if it rains while your up there you can go inside there too and there's a counter with lots of barstools and chairs. We enjoyed beer so much took some home with us. Great place to hang with friends and meet new people. We will have to go back next time we are in the area. read more
