Buffalo City Distillery was a pleasant surprise to find! Very close to our rented beach house, and I adore whiskey. A win win if you ask me. We entered into a lovely, vast, and welcoming space with a good sized bar and plenty of tables for customers and gatherings. I had two of the house cocktails. First of which was an old-fashioned. One of my favorites. The second was a real switch for me. More of a light, fruity cocktail. Both quite good. I wish I had more time to do one of their sample flights of whiskeys. I hadn't been to a distillery in such a long time. Next time! I didn't venture out to the outdoor patio area, but, as my partner and I left, a large group headed straight for the patio. We ended up staying for 3 rounds of drinks cause we were enjoying it so much AND everyone left with at least one bottle! The coconut lime martini was delish! Small tasting room and lounge attached to the distillery. There is a build your own Old Fashioned menu that lets you pick a whiskey and bitters which is fun for fans of the drink. Prices for the bottles are a little higher than I expected, but local spirits from locally grown corn is a pretty cool thing. Real farm to glass stuff. They also have a limited amount of beer and wine on the menu for the non-liquor drinking friend. read more

We stopped her during Outer Banks Bike week. I got the whiskey flight ($15) with their bourbon, whiskey, apple whiskey, and honey almond whiskey. I am not one for sweet liquors but the honey almond was pretty good and unique versus other honey infused whiskeys. The apple whiskey was like cotton candy and a bit too much. The bourbon was good as far as bourbons go, not sure the price of a bottle but I'd say it's worth about $40. Now the East Lake Whiskey...that's where it's at son. That whiskey is a really good whiskey. I asked if their prices were different than the ABC stores sell them for and they said by law they are the same price so I decided I would pick up a bottle from my local ABC on the way home instead of hauling it around in my bike all week. My girlfriend got a mocktail since she was riding and can't handle her liquor lol. She got the boomtown lemonade and it was $6 without alcohol vs $11 with it and it was delicious. There was one of those drunk painting sessions going on when we got there, almost thought we walked into a private party. It was super loud as the lady was giving instructions on a loudspeaker the entire time. I bet when that event isn't there that it's a really nice ambiance. I'd go for a tour next time. The outside area was pretty nice as well. Definitely worth the stop and visit if you're passing through! read more

Stopped by for trivia night. Cocktail Kelly made sure we had a great time. The cocktails that they work up behind the bar are pretty amazing. I tend to tell the bartender what I like or don't like like, and then make some minor tweaks so that every drink turns out delicious. I've been to a few events here, and it's always a good time. The staff has gone above and beyond to make sure everybody is having a great time, for moving tables, telling us where to put decorations, and just generally being overall helpful. The amount of food that they have is limited, as it's all either , grabbing stuff, or packaged foods. But they allow you to bring your own food in, and this seems to work out really well. The vibe inside is definitely an industrial feel. Outside on the back patio there's plenty of places to sit, and the establishment is kid as well as dog friendly. They've got picnic tables, chairs, and couches for you to sit on. read more

Service was top notch! As soon as we walked in the door, we could feel that welcome vibe. There's a small bar and inside several tables as well as lots of outdoor seating. Menus are already on the tables and we browsed the tempting flight menu. We started with a flight split of whiskey and vodka. The peach and blood orange vodkas were tasty. There was no nasty after taste. Hubby enjoyed the almond whiskey and the East Lake Whiskey. We moved on to full cocktails made with some of the flavored liquors. I highly recommend the Blood Orange Smash. You can taste the fresh rosemary sprig. It was a refreshing cocktail. Although they don't serve, they do stock locally made snacks. Try the pimento jalapeño cheese spread locally made in Manteo. It was so good! They also hosts food trucks and Steamers was there that day. The Steamers team was so friendly and their food is delicious as always. We took home some of their liquors so hopefully we can duplicate those yummy cocktails. read more

My husband and I just attended the Bulls N Bbq event. I don't want to be this person but I feel like I have to be. My husband was standing in the line when they started taking the guy who cut in front of us. My husband spoke up and said we were next. When he asked for a diet pepsi we were told "nope, we're out." They had an entire case sitting on TOP of the table. When my husband asked her about the ones on the table she said "you can go to the food trucks." I was absolutely appalled. I don't like making bad reviews but I almost feel like I need to say something. We will definitely keep this interaction in mind and NOT take our business here. We had wanted to check out the new distillery for months. We finally had a chance to come by. Located just 1.5 miles off the bridge, it was a quick jaunt from our Kitty Hawk home. Staff was super friendly. They gave us some great suggestions. We started with a flight that included 4 tastings for $12. We had whiskey and vodka tasting. All were easy to sip. We decided to order cocktails and whiskey. They also offer some snacks most locally sourced. We had the delicious pimento cheese made by a family in Manteo. The day we came we had a chance to eat Steamers food truck meals. It was very good. The distillery is a nice spot to enjoy cocktails and drink some good whiskey. Stopped by on our way back to VA after a day trip to Kitty Hawk. Husband and I were excited to try as we really enjoy going to distilleries and local joints. The building/venue was great. Lots of space inside and out. Outside seemed to be filled with locals/regulars and a couple of pups running around. We were the only two inside and got prompt service from the bartender. We each opted for a tasting flight and left sorely disappointed. The bourbon was ok. Nothing to write home about. The straight Whiskey my husband didn't mind but I was not a fan. Both agreed it was nowhere near worth a $120 price tag. The remainder of what we tried were flavored spirits and both agreed they tasted very artificial, almost like taking some Mio (that you can flavor water with) and squirting it into a drink. The apple we thought *maybe* could be mixed into a cocktail. The honey Almond we were both excited to try but left an almost chalky feel in our mouths and again, super artificial and sweet. The coconut vodka didn't give a coconut vibe and the peach vodka, which I was hopeful for, I couldn't even finish the 1/2oz pour because it was like drinking hand soap. We've done tasting all over and this is the first we've walked away with nothing really great to say from what we tasted. Hubby has had the gin and thought it was good. Not a gin girl so not for me. Everyone's palate is different but this was sadly a hard no for us. read more

We stopped in today to check out the Distillery. Met by Megan who fixed us up with a Flight and a couple of cocktails. Drinks were delicious, Whiskey flight was very good. (My husband is the whiskey guy, I liked the flavored vodkas) Megan was very well versed in all of the products. She was fun to spend time with, such a great personality. Megan gave us great suggestions for dining in the area. I loved the tasting room atmosphere, clean and inviting. And while I love the beach, the Distillery was fresh without the quaint seaside signs and quirky little knickknacks.....We have been in the area for almost two weeks. With tasty drinks, an awesome and attentive staff, a great fenced in outdoors area with games and seating, live music, food trucks...the list goes on and on.
