I have visited Chesapeake Bay Distillery located in Virginia Beach, Va twice now. Each time I have visited I have had a pleasant experience. They are only open Friday 4-7, then Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7. So be mindful of that before driving all the way down to the beach. I wish they were open during the weekday, would be nice little after work hangout spot to catch a flight or two. The flights are $8 each and you get to choose 4 options. You can't beat that. I usually get two flights making my total $16 and I leave with a nice buzz. The customer service is really good. Our bartender carried on a conversation with us and kept us entertained. She's engaged and I'd like to wish her a happy wedding day. Over all I will continue to visit this spot, when open b/c I love how low key it is. Please note major construction going on currently around the distillery so may have to take a detour to get to them. read more

Chesapeake Bay Distillery - Distilleries Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

If you're looking for something fun to do this Summer, definitely stop in to Chesapeake Bay Distillery for their $8 cocktail flight. I arrived around 6:30pm in hopes I could still order a flight, since they close at 7pm. Thankfully, they weren't in a rush to close at all. In fact, almost 10 people came in after me. The lady working there was pretty nice and personable and the place was very clean. The flight includes 9 different flavors and you are able to choose 4 flavors for the tasting. My friend and I ordered our flights and enjoyed our tastings. Some we enjoyed more than others but it was still a good time and the drinks were very strong. My favorite was the Watermelon Ghost Margarita, which was made with fresh, watermelon juice and tequila with smoked ghost pepper. While at the Distillery, you can purchase bottles to take home or simply order a cocktail to enjoy. If you're near the Oceanfront, grab some friends and definitely stop in. read more

3 out of 5 stars Review for Chesapeake Distillery - Virginia Beach Blvd, Oceanfront Stopped by Chesapeake Distillery for a visit while I was out near the Oceanfront. The place has a cute, relaxed vibe--not too busy when I arrived, but it did take over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me at the bar. The woman working the tasting room was caught up in a personal conversation and didn't notice me at all until much later. She eventually apologized and explained that she was talking to someone who had just received difficult news. I get that life happens, but even a simple "I'll be right with you" would've gone a long way. I decided to go ahead with the tasting flight and picked four items off the menu. Honestly, none of them really impressed me. The Watermelon Ghost Pepper Margarita with a Tajín rim was the most memorable, but even that felt like it was missing something. Their spirits hit hard up front but aren't very smooth, which made them hard to enjoy. The coffee liqueur didn't do it for me either. I didn't end up buying any bottles. I might stop in again for a single cocktail and the chill vibe, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for. Also worth noting -- they are not dog friendly, so leave your pup at home for this one read more

This place was very interesting. Informative, good friendly knowledgeable service, just a Good Time at the Beach. The Vodka is smooth and mild that's excellent by itself or in a cocktail. Made Onsite !! You can get a flight of four cocktails or a 8 or 10 oz glass for only $8.00 This is a FUN place at the beach to visit. read more

We noticed this place driving to dinner and decided to stop by before we went back to our side of Virginia Beach and I'm glad we did. We walked in and there were tastings already in session. And the lone woman working behind the bar was so friendly and hospitable. We couldn't wait to sit down when some others cleared out! When we snagged seats, she gave us the tasting menu, and even poured us a drink to try out while we made our selections. We ended up going with a bunch of the seasonal specials as they wouldn't be there later in the year. Everything tasted amazing and my mom ordered an full size purple rain. The vodka & tequila is so smooth (we bought a bottle of vodka to take home). I was pleasantly surprised to see Dr. Stoners is also distilled here. Next time I go home to Richmond, I might have to take a extra 2hr drive down to come try more seasonal selections. Thanks for adding some fun to my visit to VA Beach! read more

Impact: 5/5. Stellar across the board. Highlights: Amaretto Ridge & Passion Punch. Two different flavor profiles, yet superbly delightful. I even liked "Build Your Own Bloody," despite this being my least favorite cocktail. Beverages: Cocktail & Spirits flight. See above for my subjective highlights. Basically, everything Sara poured for us was great. Service: Impeccable. Both visits, about a year apart, were noteworthy because of the service. Sara, set the scene for a wonderful return this past Sunday. Fun, unique, and lively are the best descriptors for the afternoon that Sarah curated. I actually reconsidered delaying my return trip back to LA. Ambiance: Chill/industrial/coast vibe. The bar area was crowded, but pleasant during our first visit. The bar area was initially empty for our second visit, then filled up a bit with locals. Good vibes all around and pet friendly. read more

My wife and I found a fun little distillery a few blocks from ocean front. Completely worth a short walk!! $8 flights or cocktails. All spirits crafted here. A nice view of the distillery with seating for 30-40. Friendly bartender who was personable and quickly poured the drinks. The smokey ghost pepper tequila was great - I can see why it won a 2023 craft sprit award! Best part - ABC carries the bottle too so you can enjoy your own creations by starting with a really good base read more

Why did it take us this long to go here? Oh yeah. That's right. I have 3 kids under 3 lol!!! Small indoor area. But bug on the taste! They offer a flight if 4....either cocktails or straight up. They are an ABC store as well. They will sell you bottles! Staff was awesome and knowledgeable! They gave their own parking area as well. Customer bathroom available. No changing tables for those parents bringing kids in like me haha. Hand sanitizer available at every table and bar area. Merch available as well like hats...shirts.. tanks...etc. read more

This is a great place to start your night for $8. There is no food so it's not going to be a long visit. They have changed how they do things. But you can order 4 different shot size drinks or just 1 drink. I like to order the 4 so I can try different things. Its not a big place. Probably not great for large parties. A small bar with about 8 seats. Complete view of where they make the alcohol. Cool vibe. Support local. Good service. Clean. I was by myself and totally comfortable. Worth checking out and visiting. Don't forget to buy a bottle to go. read more

We stopped in on a rainy afternoon and had a great visit! We both had a flight of drinks and we loved every one we tried! After the flight, we had a drink each of our favorite cocktails and we will happily return when we are back out this way next time. Flights and a single cocktail were $8 each so there was no worry about breaking the bank. The bartender was great and we had lots of fun!! Well worth a visit if in the area! read more

I have always loved coming here but was honestly disappointed on my most recent trip. Chesapeake Bay Distillery has a great atmosphere and makes very smooth spirits. In the past, I love coming for tastings because they do beats and cocktails as part of their flights. They lose a star since on this visit I found out they have significantly reduced the size of the tasting glass for the cocktails. Previously it was a shot glass amount for a neat and a cute mini cocktail for a mixed beverage. Now everything comes in the shot glass. They have changed the presentation and I found the old flight boards and glasses much better. They limit what cocktails are available for the flights as well. Still a nice experience and great liquor. I may stick to neats in the future though. read more

My favorite spot in VA Beach. Small tasting room but worth a visit. It's simple. You pick from a list of featured cocktails of the week. You can do two cocktails, a cocktail + a flight, or just a flight. The best option is cocktail + flight as that lets you sample the most variety. The bartenders are always nice and add to an overall great experience. read more

I bought a bottle of Ghost Pepper infused Vodka at the ABC store in Woodbridge, Virginia. There was NO TASTE OF GHOST PEPPERS (Smoked or otherwise) in this bottle of vodka; nor could we smell any aroma of such in the product from start to finish - IT WAS JUST VODKA - VERY DISAPPOINTING!! Love the Distillery. This place is a must. So add it to your to do list. Cool vibe when you walk in. With all the local art. Friendly staff. And did someone says drinks? Yes!! My husband and I like the flights. Good price and fun selection. My husband and I make it interesting , he chooses 2 and I choose 2. Neither of us knows what the other person is picking until we drink it. It is great!!! There is always a good variety to choose from. FRESH is #1. For example if it is strawberry season. They will make a Pungo Mule. Love love love this one. And if you love it as much as I do you can also get the recipe and their wonderful vodka. The Blue Ridge Vodka to make this at home all strawberry season. Summer time in a drink is a Lemondrop. Another one of my faves. Made with their Lemon liqueur. They have the best sense of humor too. With all this pandemic they made 4 new drinks called * Quarantine *Canceled Plans *Dr. Dr. and *Penicillin So pay attention. Their products are great. It's LOCAL, small business. And a visit is always fun. #YelpBigNightIn! read more

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the distillery. The bartender was fantastic and handled a busy bar with ease and friendliness. The drinks were delicious and the Bloody Mary is one of the best I've ever had! I highly recommend trying a flight of cocktails before ordering a drink so you can try a little of everything. The ghost pepper tequila was surprisingly yummy! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. read more

An overdue review of Chris Richeson and his crew doing awesome things in the world of distilling rum & vodka. They are now celebrating a 14th year. The three products they distill are Chicks Beach Rum, Blue Ridge Vodka and Ghost Pepper infused vodka. I had all three and they were exceptional, albeit the Ghost Pepper left a low burn in my gut for the evening. They do have distribution. Awesome tasting with Bri pouring a shot of their Blue Ridge Vodka which was mighty tasty straight up. Bri not only pours, but educates customers on the product & makes great recommendations. My fave cocktail was the strawberry colada. Go check them out in the Vibe Creative District. I've now been back a few times and had their great products at events over the years. I can highly recommend. read more

The alcohol was very tasty and smooth. Wasn't harsh at all, didn't burn your throat. They do not give tours so you will not be able to see how they make the alcohol. Started a celebratory evening with cocktail tasting at this small tasting room. It was fun choosing which cocktails to taste, choice of 4, and analyzing their flavors. This place is a new favorite! We hit this spot up after day drinking (because why not) and it was awesome! We pulled into the parking and entered the small room. Luckily some people were just leaving so we grabbed their seats and got ourselves some tastin's! So here's the deal: You get to try whatever's on the menu as a flight for $7 bucks! Not a bad deal, considering it's one of my lucky numbers. I tried the "Pungo"--errm i forgot the name but it has strawberries, mint, and vodka and it's AMAZING, the key-lime pie shooter was pretty damn tasty, the rest of the shooters were a taste of Dr.Stoner's Vodka and Bourbon. That name is as interesting as it's taste. It's a propriety blend of HERBS that give it such a sweet taste... I have questioned the flavor of these "Herbs" but hey it makes for a curious conversation. We bought a bottle of whiskey for the old man and headed out. *Note that you only can do one tasting per day **Note that i wanted to be a rebel and do at least 3 more tastings. read more

Huge fan of this place. They just renovated, so the place is very fresh and has a cool vibe. You're able to see where they do their distilling in the back, and though there isn't a ton of space inside, you can sit at the bar for a drink. You can get several combinations of drinks, including flights of spirits and cocktails. My personal fave was the key lime pie cocktail - apparently it's everyone's fave, but it's no wonder since it tastes so close to the real thing! The bartender was very nice and gave good recommendations, and it's convenient that you can get their spirits at the ABC store as well as the distillery. Overall, a fun place for a casual drink with friends. read more

This distillery is conveniently located in the art district near the beach. I went with a friend and had a really great time. We were the only guests for almost 2 hours and Ruthie provided excellent customer service! She was very compassionate and attentive. She also provided great recommendations for us to check out in the area. You can purchase a flight from their cocktail menu for $8 which is a steal. All of the tastings are of their speciality cocktails and they have a featured cocktails that varies each month. I tried the Twisted Peaches, Chronic Mojito, Smokey Arroyo, and the featured drink which are all very good! And their bottles are super affordable! I would definitely recommend supporting this local business! read more

Love everything about this place! The owner, drinks, location, etc. It's located at the Oceanfront close to Commune. They have their own parking space, so no need to worry about parking there. The room is very small. They only have 1 table bar for tasting, which isn't too bad since they don't get too busy anyways. They have a glass view of the distillery as well. You get to pick 4 double shot sized cocktails for $7. My most favorite is the key lime. It's sweet and tart and you can't really taste much the vodka. They're known for their ghost pepper vodka which packs serious heat. If you like spicy then you'll like them. I'm not a vodka drinker, but these drinks really get you to a good buzz. The owner was really knowledgeable and welcoming. He made us laugh plenty of times. Great place to sample local vodka! read more

Hakuna Ma'Vodka !!Destination :Virginia Beach It's been raining here at Virginia Beach and we are wondering how we can make the best of our trip without the rain dampening our spirits...A lill research n mutual love for vodka led us to this cosy lill place called the Chesapeake Bay Distillery not meant to house a party but just right for me and the Mr to have a good time right in the centre of The ViBe district. We meant business so without wasting time ,socially distancing ourselves, asked for the vodka tasting flight..where you could choose any 4 types of cocktails to go with their in-house Blue Ridge Vodka or The Mr.Stoners Vodka (which apparently is a weed like tasting vodka only herbal... what !!does the name give away ?!?)besides whiskey and tequila ...Of course the vodka won for us ! I picked the watermelon splash , Passion ViBe (with regular vodka) and the Purple Rain and Crabby Ghost (With the Weed like tasting vodka) Mind you the Crabby Ghost is made of -shrimp,lobster and crab blended and served with vodka...Something unheard of...but oh! So tasty ...something like a Bloody Mary just with great flavours ! Stepping out with big smiles and a bottle of Dr Stoners (tag says :Best Flavoured Vodka,Gold Medal 2017)and the bartender was really sweet ,she also gave us car stickers as souvenirs:) Not bad for a rainy day activity I say !! ;) @chesapeakebaydistillery read more

I had been wanting to go here for a while - prob since they opened. And every time I went to Commune, I was reminded of it, since they are right across from each other. It always seemed to be the "wrong time" though, which is why my first visit to Chesapeake Bay Distillery was delayed. Boy, was I missing out! Since I've finally made my way over there the first time, I've gone back several times and always enjoy it and want to go back as quickly as possible. Prob due to the fact that I finish their lemon drop bottles and need to come back for refills - but more on that below. First of all - Ruthie and the owner Chris are awesome! We were lucky enough to meet them both the first time and hang out for a small tour and a lot of chatting. Chris made sure I'd spill some Portuguese words out so he could kindly mock me - but all in good spirits. Since this is mostly a vodka place - and I am a vodka kind of gal - I had a hard time deciding on my choices for the flight. Only one flight (consists of four shots) per visit allowed since... yeah, you're drinking shots of vodka. The first flight I got was had a strawberry colada,a bri berri, a lemon drop, and a pain killer. I can confidently say that by now, I've tried them all though, even the ghost pepper ones! And I am not a fan of ghost peppers. All in the experience mindset though. If you're a fruity drink person, then you'll love, love, love, their bri berri and strawberry colada! I wish they sold a bunch of these in bottles like they do their blud ridge vodka, rum, and lemon drop. But since they don't, we ended up buying a couple of the lemon drop bottles. Which, if you want one, I'd advise you to go get it ASAP. They usually have new ones on Wednesdays, and they go by faaaast! All in all, an awesome way to spend your afternoon - or day :) read more

Chesapeake Bay Distillery - Chris pouring up a beautiful, icy cold vodka! Straight up so you know exactly how clean their vodka is. - Distilleries Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

This place is awesome! We go to Commune all the time for breakfast and always talk about trying this place out. We came in around 2:30 on a Friday, so it wasn't crowded at all. The bartender was really friendly and knowledgeable, and she really helped in making a decision on what samples to get for our flights. I got the Bri Berry, Alligator Piss, Strawberry Colada and the Pungo Mule. I wasn't looking anything too sweet, so these were all really good choices. The Strawberry Colada is on the sweet side, but since it was a small tasting, it's something I knew I could handle. But they were all delicious. Pungo Mule was probably my favorite, it has all 3 liquors in it (vodka, rum and Ghost Pepper Vodka.) The Ghost Pepper Vodka gave it a really interesting kick. My husband ended up getting the Angry Mango, Espresso (without the creamer), Ghost Pepper Vodka and the Crabby Ghost. I have to admit, I'm not one for spicy drinks, but all of his were so good. I dipped my finger into the ghost pepper vodka because I didn't think I could handle it. I was right, it was crazy spicy. My lips burned for a good 5 mins. I was really amazed by the Crabby Ghost. I'm not a fan of Bloody Mary's, but this drink was so satisfying. It was like a meal. I really don't know how to explain the goodness of this drink, but it was fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone. The best part...You get the 4 flight sampler for only $7! read more
