Famous for their rum and I finally got to try it and buy some. Last time I was here, they were closed for remodeling the entire time ugh. The remodeling made their distillery bigger so that they could make more and not keep selling out before the weekend hit. They seem to have a limited by season shipwreck series bottle as well. Stopped by to see what all the fuss is about. You can try all their Rum available. The lady behind the run explains all about each rum and the notes of it. She tells what each rum is good with. We had a blast at the Outer Banks Rum Distillery! Their team in the gift shop and tasting station were so fun and friendly and super knowledgeable. We tried the pecan honey rum and the spiced rum and ended up buying a bottle to take home. You also must try the rum soaked candied pecans! They're amazing! If you're into rum and trying out distilleries, you've got to check out this spot! They're famous for their rum and once you've seen their logo you'll recognize it everywhere afterward. Upon entering they have a great little section with hats, hoodies, tanks, t-shirts, stickers, koozies, etc. The place is modern and welcoming and has a fun vibe. The staff warmly greeted us and were super knowledgeable about the rum and overall drink selections. We went to the bar side and tried several cocktails with a variety of flavors and rums. The craft cocktails were expertly made and really showcased the rum they are known for. The bartender did a great job explaining them and finding ones that catered to each of our tastes. We had some kiddos with us and they were welcome. They had some snacks and kid-friendly beverages available for them, as well as wifi. This time to OBX we stayed in Kill Devil Hills. The story goes that Blackbeard had rum buried in the sand dunes of the area so strong it could kill the devil - hence the name - Kill Devil Hills. While in Manteo we learned that there is still rum - Kill Devil Hills Rum made at Outer Banks Distilling in the town we were in - Manteo. We found the distillery, went in and had a few samples followed by bringing some of the rum back home with us. The ingredients of this rum is pure without refined sugar added. It is very good. I also picked up some local honey used in one of their rums. It was great talking to the person who was serving the samples and was also the "main guy" at the distillery. The inside is a fun environment. And, there is a bar where you can get drinks made with their spirits. read more

Really cool spot in Manteo. Went here on day 1 of our OBX alcohol tour we created, trying out all the breweries, distilleries, wine places galore on the outer banks. We didn't know what to expect but it was so highly rated we had to check it out. None of us are huge rum people but I think it's safe to say that's completely changed. We walked in, looked at some merchandise (they have a lot of cool stuff) and went to grab a table at the bar. Limited seating but we got a small high top. We all ordered different drinks and they were made to perfection. Everyone was impressed and happy with their unique drink. The way the bartender made rum taste so darn... TASTY was awesome! One drink even had seaweed in it which was surprisingly refreshing. Another had jalapeño. We all tried each others drinks and liked everything. They sell two bottles of rum here, a silver and a pecan. We did a little tasting of the rum plain after we had the mixed drinks. Sadly I could only try the silver but my friends tried both and everyone agreed the silver was superior. The guy at the front doing tastings was very passionate about the rum and told us a lot about it and that they will have a third spiced rum soon! Before we left, we all bought shirts! read more

Who would have thought there would be a rum distillery in the Outer Banks? It does fit. The pirate vibes and the rum mesh well. My mom and I stopped here while visiting the area and enjoyed some samples at the distillery side, bought a whole lot of alcohol, and then ended up on the bar side imbibing. I really fell in love with the pecan rum and purchased a bottle. My mom fell in love with all the rum and bought all three bottles. I also went with the pecan rum crusted nuts and can't wait to dive into those. They were also part of the sampling and incredibly delicious. On the bar side, I went with Carver's Courage. It was the pecan honey rum, homemade peanut milk, that had this incredible taste to it and is dairy-free, cold brew coffee, demerara syrup and chocolate bitters. This was THE best cocktail I have had in a long time. I wish I could make it at home, but I feel like that peanut milk won't be easy to replicate. My mom had the Mango Snapper that included the silver rum, mango, lime, mint syrup and chili tincture. That was very good too. The sweet and spicy balanced the drink out well. read more

This is a small place and parking is street parking. This is ok though! The inside offers good rum and a small bar with seating for you to try some of the cocktails that they do using their rum varieties. It looks like they have 4 varieties that they craft and they're tasty. I ordered a mojito and they use fresh ingredients, so I had an actual small mint branch along with the muddled mint. We stopped here because all over town I see Kill Devil Rum. In addition it's a distillery and I love distilleries. They have two areas the area to the left when you walk in is for merchandise and to same straight shots. The area to the right is the bar where you can sample mix cocktails and sit inside or outside. The building is large but the bar area is quite small. We didn't have time to sample mix drinks but I sampled straight shots. I had the kill Devil white rum. It was good had a little sweeter taste to it. The second was the kill Devil rum aged in pecans on the property. That had a different taste, quite unique, the one guy said nobody is doing it except for them. The last one I tried was the bourbon. The bourbon was good and always my favorite but I purchased a bottle of the Pecan one. The guy that did the serving knew his stuff and told you. He spoke fast. My family and I decided to surprise a friend and go down to Nags Head well she was going to be at the Outer Banks Distilling for a book signing so that's where we surprised her. When we arrived the first thing that we noticed was the parking there wasn't much! So we parked a few blocks down on the street. Once you drove around you were able to see that there was plenty of parking on the street! As we walked up we notice that were a small festival going on with BBQ, samples of beers and places to sit. Although we didn't get a chance to enjoy it it still looked very fun! The distillery was hosting 2 events a rum tasting and the book signing and both of the lines were very long. The staff was extremely nice! They handed out waters and made sure that everyone was okay. The distillery in the back looked huge but the store area was tiny so it wasn't very much space. They sold t shirts and other items for people to purchase. I was able to meet Vivian Howard who is the Author of Deep Run Roots. She was extremely nice. Overall the space is small but I loved the atmosphere and I would definitely go back but next time I need to try some rum! read more

This place is so so awesome. Best rum I have ever had. They make it from scratch and it's delicious. The guys who own the place are fantastic. Super friendly and super helpful. The "not so hidden" gem is the cocktail wizard Matt. He creates all of the drinks and does an incredible job. He recently told us that, when making the spiced rum, he went through an extensive process and finally created a rum that has 11 herbs and spices. It is, by far, superior to any other sources rum i've had. If you're lucky enough to get there when they have aspecual release, they are to die for. One thing, though. These are small batch rums and there is a line outside the door waiting to buy some - each and every time. If you have not visited this fabulous place, out it on your list. I gave this place a second shot and came in on a sunny Wednesday in early June and this time I had a great experience! I called a hour ahead to get two spots on the 1pm tour. It's $10, lasts about a hour and comes with samples at the end. I learned a lot on this tour! It's very much a small craft business. I didn't know that this is only their 3rd year open and they are staffed by the 4 owners. They recently hired another person to help out up front so the people giving you the tours are the owners, distillers, and shop keepers. That's amazing. The tour gives you local history, their history, how to distill and you get to try their silver rum, pecan rum and gold rum. They also give samples of the rum balls, molasses, and rum soaked pecans. I also love that they are keeping it all local with their ingredient sources. I was very impressed and got a bottle of gold to go! I highly recommend the tour and product. read more
