This one wasn't quite for me. The atmosphere felt more like a busy bar than a brewery, and it was louder than I expected. If you're looking for a relaxed place to sit and enjoy a beer, this may not be the right fit. The beer itself was okay--nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable. Great local brewery with delicious beers and friendly fun service! Stopped in on our recent vacation to sample some beers. The beers did not disappoint! Inside is pretty small but on a nice day there are plenty of picnic tables outside to sit at and sit by the water. No food on-site but there is a pizza place right next door as well as a coke shop. Lost colony is an institution brewery just outside of Nags Head. They have a large variety of beer selections and friendly, outgoing staff. This location is right on the water and has a large deck with tables for enjoying the views. We tried both lighter and darker styles and found them all to be tasty. As you are crossing the sound into Nags or going west to Mateo, stop in here for one! read more

This is an off the beaten path place as it's a bit hard to find. It's in the back of a business area on the causeway. Mostly locals here. They honor English beer as they have no sours or fruity IPA's. Several ales, a nut brown, and a Blonde make up the group here. You can sit outside on the deck overlooking the sound and order pizza from next door if you're hungry. The bartenders here are always friendly and have interesting stories. I was at the end of my vacation. After wrestling with shells and hurting so bad I said to my spouse I can't sit here and let the shells win. So we arrived at Lost Colony Waterfront and was rescued. We stopped by for lunch last weekend and had an outstanding meal. We sat at a high top table inside. Staff was friendly and attentive. It was kinda quiet for a Saturday afternoon. I had the fish and chips and the kitchen delivered! It was a massive hunk of perfectly fried fish (haddock I believe). The fries were pretty good too and the beer was nice and crisp. We also tried the vegetarian cottage pie which was really awesome. Aside from the flies lurking around the aroma of stale beer, the place was decent for a casual lunch spot. Street parking is adequate, and downtown Manteo is a quaint and cool place that is relaxing. Put this place on your 'to-try' list next time you are in the area. I'd go back. read more

Great artwork, great beers, great staff, beautiful location. We drank a round and We took some package goods home and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately when we were there the clientele gave a definitive you are not welcome locals only vibe. Will definitely return as the beer makes it worth but will stay only if we can sit outside. This is as close to Cheers as you are going to get. It's a place you can go where everyone knows your name. Whether you are a local (not a real local, a live here now local) or you visit every year, Dirt remembers and greets you like family - the ones you like to see. It is hard to find, but if you like beer you will love this place! The bartender Dirt is fabulous!

Fun brewery! Great beer! The bartender during the week is named Dirt. He is HILARIOUS and knows the area very well! He greets you like you are his long lost friend. The weekend bartender was really nice and so friendly too. She was sweet. Next to the brewery is a pizza place with yummy and HUGE pizzas. The view at the waterfront is awesome too! When we arrived, we noticed there was suspicious activity from some of the vehicles hanging around the parking lot, then we noticed the majority of customers appeared to be getting drunk while they allowed their children to play on the rocks below. We then witnessed the bartender blowing smoke into the faces of a table eating dinner. This place seems really trashy and low class overall. I would avoid this dump at all costs. read more
