This is an update: I live in NYC " Proper" , and come out to Westbury LI where me " Cutie Bear " Douglas resides. We came here last month and I've come back 3 more times. This " Outback " rivals Manhattan eateries, and for the FIFA World Cup (" Go America" ), it's a very good place with a huge teli . to watch your favorite team. I was lucky enough last time to meet one of me favorites chefs , " Chef Freddy," who is a true chef, through me favorite barkeep/ head waitress Nicole. Very popular lass, with a winning attitude every time, and a wonderful hand on serving spectacular drinks , to many many patrons . The patrons coming here are quite nice themselves . Pulled into Outback Westbury about 10 minutes after open, hoping for a solid lunch. What I got was a split decision -- front of house carried the day, the kitchen sank it. Credit where it's due: our server was outstanding. Drinks never hit empty, attentive without hovering, and clearly invested in the experience. Five stars to that man -- he was working with what he had. Unfortunately, what he had coming out of the kitchen was rough. The bread came out warm (good), but the butter was off -- sour, almost rancid on the back end. Not a great opening pitch. I ordered the NY Strip medium rare with a baked potato and the loaded baked potato soup. The steak hit temp -- credit to the grill -- but the baked potato was chewy in a way a baked potato has no business being, and the butter carried that same off, rancid flavor I caught with the bread. The soup was the real letdown. Looked the part with bacon and cheese piled on top, but underneath it was straight up cold. Microwaved in a rush or never properly heated through -- either way, it should never have left the pass. We also tried the coconut shrimp -- chewy, overworked, not the crisp bite you're paying for. The seasoned rice that came with it was actually the bright spot of the plate. Honest rice deserves an honest mention. Gov's Take: Service earned a 5. Food earned a 1. Since we tried one of their competitors, my kids said we had to try Outback Steakhouse so here we are. We came on a weekday for lunch so business was a little light. It is located in a small shopping center so there is a decent parking. Upon entering, I was surprised by how spacious it is. There are weekday lunch specials. We were service some good pumpernickel bread with butter. We started with their famous bloomin onion which was delish. My kids chose to have steak since we were in a steakhouse and they were prepared as requested (medium). I had the soup and salad combo, nothing special. My husband liked his Aussie Steak Sammie. Very disappointed with my experience at Outback Steakhouse. My girlfriend and I ordered two steaks. The waitress even asked how we each wanted our steaks cooked and what sides we wanted, but when the food came out, only my steak was brought out and my girlfriend's was completely missing. I explained that we ordered two steaks, and she apologized and went back. She then came back with just fries instead of my girlfriend's steak. I had to explain again that we were still waiting for the second steak. By the time her steak finally came out, about 30 minutes had passed and my own food was already cold from waiting so we could eat together. I understand mistakes happen, but after having to explain the order multiple times and waiting that long, I expected something to be done to make up for the inconvenience. The food and service matched on 8/30/25. My plus one wanted steak so we called up for reservations and no RSVP was needed. When arrived we had to wait for a table to be buffed. The ambiance was dressed down. We were seated and Diana our server, came over. We didn't have time to decide so we asked for a few more minutes and she gave us a whole lot of minutes. When she finally returned she was in a rush spewing out the choices on the menu that left us trying to figure out what she said without her repeating herself. So we had the 8 oz with a side and soup or salad and dessert. The price for this meal came out to $57 plus change so under $58. My plus one had to ask twice for lemon for her water, I had to go and get it because it never came and she had to ask twice for more bread. The steak had two different textures for both. One half was dry and chewy and the other half was moist and not that chewy. The chili was ok pretty good, spicy with chunks of meat. I thought it would have chopped ground beef. The salad was pretty good. The desert was okay but my plus one's dessert presentation was way off. It came falling off of the plate and some fell out as it was plopped down on the table. We were greeted and seated very quickly by the hostess. We ordered the blooming onion as an appetizer. First time having it and it was delicious. I definitely understand why this is a staple item on the menu. For the entrees we order the 6oz sirloin with the steak house baked potato and steakhouse mac and cheese as well as the sirloin and alice spring chicken with fries and a cesar salad. I went to eat here a few days ago. The hosts were great I was sat fast, server was amazing brought our food and drinks quick. But my steak came out too rare and the manager brought it back re cooked. it was still blood red in the middle and I asked him to re do it again, he gave me an attitude and said "I don't know if you know what medium well is". I was flabbergasted and asked for his name he refused ! Then the general manager lady came out and nicely took off 50% our meal and was apologetic. He was a white man with dark hair and glasses, so rude ! Corporate needs to investigate him and handle him! We hadn't been here for a while, but decided to spend our anniversary dinner at the outback. Did not regret our selection. The food is still excellent, portions are great and the prices are better than so many other places. Including cocktails that were delicious. It's a moderate priced national chain steakhouse. That being said the Bloomin Onion is great but you need more than two people to eat it. Coconut shrimp were good too. The ribeye price reflects the size, but was very tasty. If you like a healthy pour for your drinks come thirsty. Great bartenders. Service was fair. Restaurant was fairly clean. It's not a 4 or 5 star steakhouse, and yet the meal was good and the price right. Lugers, Bryant & Copper or Outback? I'm not crazy the other two and many others are far better. This is a gentleman's C. The porterhouse steak was tough and dry and o ordered it medium but it came back medium rare. It was under seasoned too. They fixed the temperature but not the taste. Listen, for the price I'm not sure you can expect more...but I did. The pecan Caesar was awesome! A little too much dressing and less than crisp lettuce but the flavors were tremendous! Dinner with a co worker. Sat at bar. Bar tender female with dark long hair was less than charming. She did her job but not so enthusiastic. I had a sirloin with grilled shrimp. Sides of broccoli and a salad. The meal was very good , only issue the broccoli was rather aged and had black marks on the stem where the broccoli was cut. From the moment we walked in until we sat down, ate and ultimately left. we were greeted with a big smile at the door. The hostess politely asked us to have a seat by the door and told us our table would be ready very soon.... It was. we were immediately greeted by our waiter who brought us the house bread and butter. He came back a few minutes later to take our order. - Onion Soup - My wife likes the cheese well done and it was prepared perfectly. I had some and found it tasty and rich, leaving me wanting more. Prepared with a delicious beef stock. - Sirloin Steak for my wife. She likes it really well done (ugh) but he brought it over just a tad below. She really enjoyed it. Tasty, well cooked, tender and savory. She also had the grilled asparagus with was very good. - Baby Back Ribs - I just loved these. They were cooked perfectly and were tender-tasty and plentiful. My side was the steak-house mac and cheese. This was perfect. Great noodles and plenty of thick-creamy-tasty cheese. Overall, I was totally impressed with this meal and dining experience. The waiter was always around and keeping an eye out. The restaurant was very busy with both families and date-night couples. As for the food, we ordered the bloomin' onion, french onion soup, tasmanian chili, ribeye, prime rib, grilled salmon, 2 outbacker burgers and a mac 'n cheese kid's meal. Everything came out fairly quick & cooked well. However, the onion soup, chili, ribeye, salmon and mashed potatoes were extremely salty. I requested medium rare for the ribeye but it's more like medium. The burgers were good, prime rib was decent and salmon was perfectly grilled. I seriously don't like to be negative but, sometimes, things need to be said. Virtually nothing about my time here was positive. I walked in and waited nearly 10 mins just to be greeted and the place was not at all busy. Upon being greeted, I was asked to sit at the bar. I said I'd rather not and was questioned why. Really?? I said I'd rather have a table and was seated well away from the "center" of the room. Another 10+minutes went by with no one even coming over. So happy my friend and I came back to this Outback on Old Country Road. Alex our waiter recognized us right away and even the manager Kevin came by to say hi to us. Alex actually knew what we were going to order as it's always been our favorite meal here. The filet mignon, always cooked to perfection with an amazing taste. Haven't been to outback in a very long time. I was craving the Aussie wings! Still didn't disappoint! Ordered a lemonade mocktail which was very tasty! Our server was nice in the beginning but I guess maybe because it was the end of the night she was a little irritated with our amount of request. The first request was my cousin asked about grilling the lobster tail. At first she stated they don't do that but decided to take the lobster tail back to the kitchen and the request was honored. It looked a little undone when it first came out as to why he made the request. 2nd I ordered the Cobb salad with ranch dressing. The dressing was under all the layers of the toppings and didn't realize at first so I ordered extra. I would've preferred the dressing on the side. After tasting the salad, something tasted off. I ate 2 bites and that's it. The server mentioned maybe because I was pregnant, the eggs would probably be the reason why I didn't feel good after eating because "when she was pregnant she didn't like eggs". Not that I normally request to take food items off the bill but most restaurants would offer something else. She didn't apologize or ask If I would prefer something else. Instead she offered me a to go box. After trying to eat it the next day, I had the same sick feeling. Something was definitely off with the dressing. I started off with the cheese fries, they were delicious. if I recall my waitress name was, Katherine she's a sweetheart, she was on top of everything even recommended me a drink the cosmo and I loved it!! We live a stones throw away and once a year venture over to remind ourselves that we don't need to rush back for another year or two. I happen to love their wedge salad... it's honestly the best of any that I've ever had, anywhere. And the coconut shrimp, half the size that they once were a decade ago, but still very good. When I sit in the booth there, I immediately know what it is that makes them so out dated... it's the clumsy wooden, heavily lacquered with polyurethane tables and general dim atmosphere. Service was excellent, great knives. We have a set of the old wooden ones that I collected slowly over the years of my children's youth when we visited more often. Likely a decent place to watch a football game at the bar. 4 stars for not closing up because there is already a dollar store, a vacant store and a nail salon in that strip mall. read more

The only thing these chain restaurants are good at doing is competing with each other to find the lowest common denominator in decent dining.
