We had dinner at Outback this week in Smithfield, NC. The restaurant was incredibly dirty. The restaurant has consistently gone down hill and I think this was our last time visiting this restaurant. Our service was okay. We waited for an incredibly long time for our food to be brought to our table well after others received and ate their food. We expected the food to be hot and it was delivered warm with the exception of my sweet potato everything else must have been sitting. I have always loved their chopped pecan blue cheese salad and ordered it again. The greens on the salad were wilted and obviously not fresh. The silverware and bread plates were brought to the table dirty. You could actually see the grease on the plates. We washed our hands before dinner and the restroom literally had paper towels strewn all over the floor. I know service has gone down since Covid but it's obvious they just don't care. As a long time patron, Outback needs to bring in secret shopper or something to get their restaurants back to standard. I have eaten in Outback restaurants throughout the US. This is the worst by far but the restaurants are starting to resemble an Aussie focused IHOP and on its way to a Waffle House. That is not the goal. read more

Ok. I'm going to give this place some love. After reading all the reviews I was skeptical at best but I could walk to it from the hotel. Friday night. Very busy. Long wait but found a seat at bar. Bartender was working hard! Keeping up pretty good. I start to think it's not the place it's the rude ass customers yelling their orders while bartender's working on other drinks. They wanted a drink while they wait...I get that but yelling "hey hey hey" over the counter only gets you a longer wait. Had the prime rib. Little fatty but very good. Well cooked. Tender and food came out fast. Same rude customers standing right outside door with their drink smoking and vaping. Have some class ass hats. Saturday. Busy again. Sat at bar again. Had steak and it was very good. Came out fast. Service excellent. I think their are people that have such a all about me attitude when they eat out they expect to be treated better than others. Horrible dinner experience. The wait was over an hour- which was ok, busy kitchen, no staff. 4 ladies out after seeing a movie- appetizers and cocktails was our goal. The utensils were filthy- food was still on all of the forks. How gross and unsanitary??? We got plastic utensils- the plates still had crumbs and stuck on food particles. I cant imagine how many people that don't glance at their utensils before using them. The food was subpar. Chicken wings with feathers and " pink" on the inside- ( the request was extra crispy), these were soggy and under seasoned. Won't be going back to that Outback ever again. I am in love with the new fried chicken, but our server forgot us at some point because I ended up filling our teas on my own, I spotted the server station across from us with two very well labeled pitchers. "Unsweet tea" and "sweet tea". So I helped myself. What looked like a young assistant manager walked by laughing and apologizing. Weird. Lol. But then our server appeared and asked if we needed anything. Nope. Got it ourselves I'm a big fan of keeping drinks at least topped off once during the meal?? Long story short. The 2 stars actually would be a good night for this place. Don't get me wrong we love Outback's just not this location. We got seated at 8:15 Friday night. The drinks and blooming onion came quick. Then the salad arrived on time. We had not been here in over a year due to poor service but things seem to be looking good. After our salad we waited another 20 minutes and no steak. I asked our waitress was there a problem with our food she said our manager is working on it. During this time I saw 2 tables send food back as it was not what they ordered. Cowboy at the bar sent his steak back twice as it was over cooked he ordered rare. The mgr comes out with our steaks and said he was short help. I explained we had been seated over 1.5 hours and this was unacceptable and I could see why the place had a 2 star review on yelp. I kid you not he said anyone could have a bad night and normally only folks with issues left reviews and walked off. The steaks where not as ordered and cold as was the tator. We eat a couple bites and paid out $55 check and left. With this manager the place will only get worse. We're going back to the Texas steak house from now on. The BEST French onion soup in the south - I was impressed. Followed with chicken , bacon and melted cheese - very tender. The wait staff appeared to care about their job, and the satisfaction of the customers. The kitchen is the opposite. One person in my family ordered the Queensland Chicken and Shrimp, pasta. All of the meals but this one arrived at the table at the same time. After a few bites it was discovered it was microwaved, and with obvious signs of sitting for a while in the kitchen. Burned on the tops SHOULD be an indicator that the patty long ago surpassed medium status. She refilled our glasses 2 times and never said anything about our food. 20 min, 40 min 1 hour, and finally at an hour and 1hr 20 minutes she said "they are fixing your plates". At this time I just said packing them to go. She gave a "really" face but did not say anything and just went back to the kitchen. She brought the bag out and I went to pay. I really hate writing bad reviews but here we go again. Waiter took our order without writing any of it down, already knew that our orders would come out incorrect. Asked for silverware, it took the waiter 20 minutes to bring it out. Didn't take any of the empty glassware when he brought new beverages, so our table was cluttered. The salads came out after the entrees arrived. My order came out completely wrong. I ordered a filet and the plate that was brought to the table was a sirloin and chicken breast piece. So I had to wait another 15-20 minutes for my meal. We were celebrating a birthday and got charged for the dessert that is supposed to be complimentary. My hubby & myself stopped by on our way back to CT, we wanted a steak dinner and after reading yelp reviews I choose this Outback, plus it's really close to highway 95, which is important to us on road trips. Walked in and was seated right away, I requested a comfy booth and that's what we got. We didn't do appetizers, just had the yummy bread. My husband ordered a steak, which I think he enjoyed very much. I ordered their steak salad which I think is a great deal for a big steak salad, the steak was cooked perfectly. The waitress I think was named Sophie and was super nice and friendly, as also was the manager who chatted with us. Will definitely stop by again if we are in the area. read more
