Before Bluey, one of the finest Australian experiences we had in the States was Outback Steakhouse. For years, it was an experience. Calling the restaurant to hear a Paul Hogan wannabe list off some prompts in a fine accent that made your lips water in anticipation of the bloomin' onion, steak, and complimentary bread and butter. It was pricey, but you didn't mind, because this was a special dining experience that was the talk of the town. Over the years, prices went up and quality went down and, unfortunately, locations of this once beloved establishment have been closing all over the country. But, alas, I keep trying to support this business because that blooming onion is just too good. Unfortunately, my most recent experience may have been my last. While the service provided at curbside pickup was spectacular, the food when I returned home was beyond subpar for the nearly $100 spent for two. Overcooked steak, soggy "onion", wilted lettuce on the salad, and no accouterments for the loaded potatoes all led to a very dissatisfying experience. I hope for the sake of those working at this establishment that they find a way to make the magic experience return. Maybe even get Bluey as the spokesperson. My husband and I love to come here for special occasions. We sat down immediately and we were greeted by our waitress. We actually had her before and she was super nice. My husband and I told her we were excited to celebrate 5 years married and she was super nice to us. She brought out bread and drinks immediately. They unfortunately serve one of the prime ribs fridays through sundays now. One of the steaks was sold out from father's day but it wasn't a big deal. Our food was delicious and amazing. Prior to this visit, I am not sure the last time that I went to an Outback. I came with a large group and our service was excellent. Server took a long time to explain the menu and drink options. (Just peeked at receipt, her name was Melissa). She was patient with us. Food was excellent value. I mean a steak comes with a potato and choice of side? Excellent ! Many drinks for $8. They also have a 3 course menu as well. Definitely recommend this restaurant. They can handle larger groups. Very friendly. Great food and drinks. read more

Two prior take out orders I sat in the take out lot waiting for text message saying it was ready and to give them my parking number and never received it after 15 minutes. Went inside and it was waiting but by then it was cold. Just tried ordering another take out on 4/15/26, and the website wouldn't complete my order unless I left a tip of at least 15%. It's been a long time since I've been to Outback. To be honest, I'm so happy with the Texas Roadhouse in Chesterfield that I never saw the need to go back. But, my wife was hungry, so here we are. The freshly baked pumpernickel is such a nice surprise. I know they've always had this, but so few restaurants do these days. I started with the potato soup: really terrific, with all the things I love about a loaded baked potato. Despite other good options on the menu, we got steak (like we always do at steakhouses). I'll get to the steak in a moment, but first I want to talk about the mushrooms. I always get sautéed mushrooms with steak. I think they are the perfect compliment, and I never use steak sauce. But, these were strange. They are almost floating in a bowl of their own juices. Did these even see a pan, or was it the microwave? They didn't have much flavor, and button mushrooms are hard to pick up with steak. But, they are nothing compared to the steak itself. We both ordered medium-rare sirloin, and the pinkness of the interior shows that that's what they cooked. The exterior is nicely seasoned. But, I can't believe how unbelievably tough the cut of steak was that I had. I counted once to see how many chews it took me before I swallowed one bite: 20. I'm not exaggerating. Part of me feels like I got my moneys worth because of that, but my sore jaw says otherwise. The service was excellent. It didn't take long for us to get our food or drinks. And, the prices were reasonable. But, wow, they really need to do a lot better with the steak. read more

The managers here are completely incompetent. The service is terrible, and I wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone. They are always "fresh out" of everything! I ordered a carryout for blooming onions, instead of waiting for someone to come to my car. I went to the door as I as I approached the carry out door I noticed the man working in there and blowing his nose profusely without washing his hands putting. He then proceeds to handle my bag without any type of aseptic technique. I couldn't eat the food after seeing something so gross and nasty. I called inside the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager. The female manager got on the phone and I explained to her what happened. We had a really large group and were seated promptly at our reservation time. The manager was so nice and the servers were all nice and helpful! However, the food was eh and I think Outback has seen its best days. I only ordered a dessert (forgot the name, but it was a stacked brownie and butter cake with ice cream on it). We tried Outback about 25 years ago and never went back. Neither of us could remember why but we hadn't. So we wanted steak and it was the best option. Now, as seemingly always, the wait was out the door but the bar was empty so we sat right down. Our server, Jordan, was a very nice young lady, prompt with everything, just the right amount of checking in. In short, great service. The decor doesn't seem to have changed in 25 years but it did not look tired, worn or threadbare, so well done. I had a filet that was about as good as it gets. And my daughter had the special drink, don't recall the name but it came with a Roo that we got to keep-it is now on my Fosters glass! This Veterans Day experience is worth writing about. The free 3 course meal offered is very generous. It was extremely busy. Even though we requested a place on the waitlist, we needed to wait 20 minutes. Definitely understood, and not a problem. The staff was hustling, courteous to all. When seated, our waiter was absolutely great.....helpful, smiling, and treated us without stress. Checked on us often. Food was great, and brought to us soon. Hot, cooked perfectly. Hit and Miss here. I went here last week with my sister and her son. We waited 90 minutes to be seated - OK, it was Saturday evening so that is to be expected. My sister ordered 8 0z sirloin medium, I ordered 8 0z filet medium and my nephew ordered sirloin rare. I asked for a loaded sweet potato as one of my side items. It took awhile for the food to arrive but again that is to be expected. I was so happy when my filet arrived as I had been looking forward to a nice juicy steak for weeks. Someone other than our server delivered the food and left very quickly so we did not cut into our steaks to see if they were cooked properly. Also, I noticed my sweet potato came with nothing at all on it. Oh well, we were very hungry and started to eat. I cut into my steak - CHIT, it was as dry as a bone! NO juice what-so-ever. My sister's sirloin was also dry as a bone. It was tender but no juice at all. I had paid $2.00 to get garlic butter on top, when it arrived the cold small dollop of garlic butter refused to melt on my steak as it was barely warm. CHIT, I waited nearly two hours for a luke-warm, dry steak where the butter sat cold atop. I fumed as I ate my plane sweet-potato. Our server came by after everything was eaten - I refused to eat a crappy steak. I figure I could take it home, put water and butter on it and micro-wave it to bring it to life...so it is at least hot. NOT how I planned on eating my $35.00 meal! I didn't want to make a scene with my family so I simply let the server know that our meat was dry, my sister also told server her meat was dry but she was starving so she ate it. I showed the server my dry steak and she could see the $2.00 up-charge garlic butter didn't melt. She said she would let the manager know - I figured OK, maybe the manager should know. I'm not sure what was more annoying a bad steak or this bad manager. She arrived at the table clearly annoyed and said , "you asked for me" I'm thinking, no, our server said she would send you over but I decided to just tell her and show her my dry, cold steak. Her tone was argumentative and she said well, the only thing I can do is cook you another one" I'm thinking, no you can do more than that but I wasn't looking for a price cut so I said nothing. I just thought she might like to know. Then she started laying into our server asking me did the server come by after our steaks were delivered, and that she should have done that and why didn't we ask for her. BECAUSE we were sitting in the rear corner facing a wall and couldn't see squat and I don't think I should have to scourer the room looking for her! The manager went on about the server not doing this or that and I was getting pissed and stopped her and said I'm more mad at the cook than our server. Asked for a different booth as there were 3 others nearby. She said we head to go to the front to see. I told her to go to the front and let us know. She tried to seat us in the same spot saying that's all that was available. I went to the front and was told that YEP THATS ALL WE HAVE by an older lady in a mask. Wrong answer! We left I understand that good help is hard to find, but how about having one of 3 hostesses who can say, sorry bout that, it'll just be a Few minutes. Warning about ordering delivery - Is it just me or has the quality of restaurant food gone down since Covid? Perhaps it's because the restaurant is having trouble keeping staff? I ordered a burger tonight for delivery. One side was grilled and brown, the other side completely raw. The lettuce was wilted. My side dish was barely warm. Outback is definitely a 3 Star chain at best. I've never been a huge fan and after my visit last night, I'm still not blown away by the food and service. My family stopped in on a Wednesday evening. The parking lot was pretty packed, but the inside was rather empty. Weird. Service was mediocre at best. Never were asked about drink refills and weren't asked about how our food was. The only silver lining is that we got a refill on bread (Score!) My sirloin steak was made to my liking. However, it took a while to get sauce for my fries. Why ask if I want a dipping sauce for my fries and then never give it to me? The fries are also nothing fantastic. Nothing too amazing about this place, to say the least. read more
