    The diner.

It is a corner family restaurant in a small town that is just off the corner. At 60 I felt as if I was one of the younger diner's but so what. I had a bowl of chicken dumpling soup (soup of the day) and Granny's Fried Bologna Sandwich. It came with homemade potato chips. The soup was a touch salty for me, but I do not put salt on or in anything so I am slightly sensitive to salt. The bologna sandwich was ok, I would have preferred a thicker slice but then I only ate half the sandwich as I was full. The place is clearly a solid member of the community, High School swag abounds and the table tops feature ads for other Romeo businesses, this is what made me go there, I was looking for a family diner with soup and sandwich and that's what they delivered. Really nothing wrong with the place.

I'm from back east so I KNOW what a diner should be and what diner food should taste like and this place fills both those requirements for me!! Great service, it's a diner so it looks like a diner...nice hometown feel. I had the Bulldog Special and it's delicious!! Great homemade tasting biscuits and gravy. Coffee is good and it keeps coming!! Lots of cute shops nearly if you have time for that.

Mixed feelings about this place. A group of us met at this…read morerestaurant last night, to try a place we haven't been. Wow. The odor when you walk in, is awful. Old moldy/wet wood smell on top of musty carpet stench? Best way to describe it. If we didn't have such a large crowd meeting up, I would have walked out based on that alone...the mold/must smell was just so pungent. The women's bathroom was clean, the men's bathroom (reportedly... I didn't personally enter, but was told by one of the men that the bathroom stunk really bad and the urinal didn't flush. The waitress was very good. MOST of our chairs (back room area) were all dangerously wobbly. THAT is uncalled for...just basic repair and should be a priority for safety reasons. Two of the chairs were so bad, we had to exchange them with an empty table (plenty of empty tables and available chairs to choose from) for fear they would collapse. That experience was super disappointing, simply because it "screams" neglect and gives (what I perceive as the attitude of "whatever... I just don't care". You mean to tell me that of all of the employees or managers moving those chairs around, not one person thought "Wow...these chairs are really bad...let's secure these legs to the seat/back with some screws?" We cut the bread and several of us took a bite... was not good...an odd strange flavor...then, we noticed the mold on the bottom. They apologized and comped two of our drinks - which was nice. The coffee - barely warm. A fresh pot was made and it was hot, as it should be. My California Portabella (mushroom spinach red pepper and onion) baguette was amazing and very flavorful. A friend had the same with cheese and she also thought it was super good. All of our fries and onion rings were barely warm. Slaw was pretty good. The feedback of others: Flaming cheese "good" and crab cakes "good". BBQ Dino Ribs - "okay... a bit tough" ... taco salad "okay" ... steak "good" ... chicken - "nice smaller portion for a lady, but it was dry". Chopped Sirloin "okay, would not get it again". Prime Rib Dip "good". Three people (two men and one woman) ordered meatloaf and they all really liked it.

I've been coming here since the 1980's and it's always been a favorite of mine. The bread is always…read morewarm and tasty and the food selections are always delicious. I got the fisherman's platter and my friend got the fish and chips. We both really liked our meals and would definitely come here again. We ended up getting two orders of the bread and my friend got a loaded baked potato. The waitress was very helpful and very fun.

We picked this restaurant for a celebration and were not disappointed…read more The service was top notch even for a fully booked Friday night. The food was excellent as we were promised. I reviewed the menu before arriving and was a little concerned about the prices but it was worth every dollar. The only thing I would do different is arrive early and appreciate the structure and atmosphere. Really cool place. Really cool vibe. The only advice I would offer is the chairs. Metal with no cushion, not the most comfortable, but I will let that slide.

Waze was instrumental in finding this hidden gem as it's tucked behind a fairly blah stretch of Orchard Lake Road. Turn down what is basically a residential street and Sylvan Table appears like a rustic Phoenix! TS saw my eyes light up as I soaked it all in. The owners have moved an antique Maine barn to Sylvan Lake Michigan and created a beautiful (if a bit barren and cold in December) oasis. The inside is as inviting as the outside with a beautiful space buzzing with activity on a cold December night. A Roaring fireplace and beautiful Christmas decor set the stage for a wonderful evening. We were seated upstairs at a nice corner table and the super friendly server was there in a flash to take our drink order. I had my usual, Grey Goose Martini on the rocks with bco's, TS opted for a house Pinot Grigio. Both hit the spot taking the chill off and were delicious. Our server went over some specials, and the menu had a varied selection of great sounding entrees. We started with a charcuterie board with their own house made crackers, cheeses and meats including a decadent pate'. And as an added bonus we were brought a few roasted brussel sprouts with cranberry chutney, fantastic! For our main course TS opted for the pork chop with root vegetables and I had the roasted chicken with the same sides. Both were delicious and juicy being cooked over a wood fire! Now Sylvan Table is a farm to table restaurant which could be daunting on a long cold Michigan winter. And part of the farm must be on their 5 acres. I bet those root vegetables were picked and stored on site for use all winter just like an old timey farm. Ee ate like we hadca tip on a famine and washed it down with a big bold red. But there was still room for more. For dessert we split a slice of Buche Noel and some coffee. The dessert was a work of art. As we made our way out we realized we were the last ones there. So after a picture in front of the Christmas tree we were gone. All in a magical experience with food, service and ambiance that can't be beat. And the company, well that goes without saying! So try out ST before everyone finds out about it! Sylvan by name..sylvan by nature. Sylvan Table...Go!
