Sylvan Table is one of those restaurants with a specific relaxing, upbeat vibe as soon as you walk in. It is a giant converted barn with twinkle lights, wildflowers, and tea candles. My friend and I got dressed up for a "smart casual" dinner and braced ourselves for a large bill as this is definitely a splurge meal/ special occasion spot for the average person. Our total bill came to about $140, which we split as we shared all the food. We each got a cocktail (mocktail for me - they have an impressive half page collection but were out of most of the non-alcoholic spirits so pretty pointless), and split the miso mushrooms, honey grilled carrots, rainbow trout, chicken under a brick, and the most delicious blueberry cardamom pie a la mode you could possibly imagine. The veggies are a la carte and cost $13-$19 themselves. But - my almost $20 miso mushrooms were amazing and I will be making that at home now! Everything was very well seasoned. However - besides the brick chicken (which was rather dry and overcooked, despite delicious flavor), everything else came out lukewarm at best. We sat at the bar, so I suspect this affected how quickly our food came out. I would make a reservation and make sure you get a table. Our bar tender was very pleasant but busy and hard to catch. There was another bar tender who seemed to be moving at 1/3 of our bartender's speed, but maybe I was just focused on ours. Since they were out of brown sugar ice cream for the pie, I asked what other flavors they had and we picked malted vanilla. The server brought out the pie with salted vanilla and a separate order of malted vanilla ice cream, which he charged us for. I guess there was a miscommunication. Of course we wanted to try both flavors now that they were right in front of us, and both were so incredibly delicious that we ate it all, so didn't bring up the fact that we only wanted to pick the flavor that came with the pie. No regrets, totally worth the extra $6. The pie and homemade ice cream is the best thing on the menu and I am so sad that I am no longer eating it.
I love sylvan table! They have a rotating menu and you can always go see the farms on the property to see the fresh veggies growing. This time I felt like everything was delicious but nothing was super life changing or inspiring. That's ok! We'll go visit another time to have the best quality food.
We were really looking forward to a special night out at Sylvan Table after hearing such good things about it. It was very enjoyable, but missed the mark in a few areas for me. The setting is really pretty. Although it is right off of a busy road, it is wooded and tranquil. We loved how the outdoor patio overlooks the gardens. Tip: wear insect repellent if you have a patio reservation. I was surprised by a somewhat rude hostess and that our server, while full of personality, had to be flagged down for simple things like salt/pepper for the table. I think for the prices, the service could be more polished and attentive. On to the food. They bill themselves as farm to table, yet my fish entree came with potatoes only and no vegetables. Odd. Fish was cooked very well and the peri peri meatballs appetizer was fantastic (look out for that chili oil!) The menu is fairly brief, and a vegetarian may have a tough time here. Looks to have a very lively bar scene and the indoor seating is in a beautiful rustic barn. The bourbon cocktail I ordered was very bourbon forward. We would definitely return, but with slightly lowered expectations.
Innovative farm to table, deliciously prepared. GREAT service! Casual, beautiful, outdoorsy feeling ambience! Treated our friends and had a wonderful evening! Shared the clam pizza and oysters on the half shell as appetizer. Oysters were very small but delicious. Clam pizza was AMAZING! Highly recommend. (Sorry, forgot to take pics of the apps) HIGHLY recommend if you're lucky enough to have it on your ever-changing seasonal menu! Pictures below will speak louder than words. Shared orange poppy seed cake and strawberry rhubarb crumble for dessert. Oops! No pic! Trust me, they were yummy! Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that my steak had quite a bit of inedible streaks running thru it. Flavor was on point, just had to cut a lot away. Friend's steak, however, didn't have so much of that gristly stuff.
Atmosphere is outstanding. Love the rustic exterior of the barn as well as a great patio space. Interior was clean and welcoming. Staff was top notch. From the recommendations to the high level of service. This was high end dining. Food was delicious. It's great that a large portion rotates based on what is in season and fresh from the garden. Great place for a special night out.
First thing you notice is the rustic, but charming exterior with their greenhouses in the backdrop. Great ambiance and beautiful wood finishes from a 300+ year old barn. The fireplace in the sunroom/greenhouse seating area is very cozy. The foods and drinks were spectacular. Using seasonal and local produce and ingredients, the menu changes based on what's available or abundant. The farm to table approach and commitment to zero food waste is amazing. The roasted beet salad, bee sting flatbread, rainbow trout and braised beef short rib were so good. Everything was so fresh and had a touch of fire-roasted taste to it. My husband enjoyed their old fashioned so much, he got another one. My penicillin mocktail was also very good if you're into ginger and turmeric! Delicious!!! The staff signed a card for our anniversary and it was the sweetest gesture!
We experienced nothing but perfection at every interaction tonight. We were seated quickly, the ambience was spacious yet cozy, the personnel were friendly, and professional with perfect timing throughout the evening (thank you Emily). The food was also perfect. Our only regret was we were too full to keep ordering different entrées. The open kitchen allow us wonderful opportunities to see the perfection coming together from the whole team behind the line. The bar offered all the normal stuff, but I recommend their signature rum cocktails. We finished off the evening, sitting by the fire, enjoying a glass of wine. Pricing was reasonable and we will be back.
Food was amazing! With the menu that constantly changes however, it's good to go with the flow. We ordered quite a few side dishes, and two of them needed more practice. The mushrooms were very salty, and the squash was undercooked. The chef was very receptive, however, and offered a free dessert. I would definitely come back - the steak, bread, carrots, and inventive starter drinks were highlights for me! Busy relaxed ambiance, nice to walk the grounds afterwards. Clean restrooms, fair amount of of parking. Cool that it's located right next to a local walking trail, which I plan to explore next time.GREAT SERVICE!

We love Sylvan Table for its beautiful buildings and farm around the restaurant, their great food, beverages and service. On September 9 we attended their Annual Harvest Dinner. It was spectacular. I estimate that around 80 people participated. We were received with smiles and a glass of prosecco and then toured the farm with the leader of the operation. The tour was very interesting and provided insight in what happens before the ingredients are used in the kitchen. We got to know new people and had a great evening. We will attend again next year and go for farm-to-table dining during the year.
Hubby booked this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. They were nice upon arrival and wished us a happy anniversary. But nothing else special about it. The atmosphere is nice. Open kitchen concept so customers can see the cooks and servers while food is being prepared. I love this vibe! There was a beautiful fireplace but we were seating kind of far away from it so didn't get to enjoy it or feel it. Bar is very nice kind of in the middle of the restaurant. Live music was being played in another part of the restaurant. The menu has a couple of options. Not a big menu probably being a farm to table and having a specialized menu. Was really wishing for a steak, like filet, at a place like this. Meals don't come with sides so must get them a la carte. Drinks are on the pricey side, around $18 each. They are good but reminds me on downtown Detroit or city prices but in the suburb prices. Nothing fancy about the drinks just seasonal so that's probably all the hype around them. Food was good and tasted fresh. Chicken dinner was app. $30 plus $ to add side of mashed potatoes. Just not sure it was worth the price. The waiter was nice on the quiet side and only came around when he noticed something was needed. $200+ tip for chicken, rabbit, mashed potatoes, gizzards and 4 drinks. This is nice for a special occasion, but won't be on our regular restaurant list.
What a wonderfully charming location! Located on 5 acres of land this charming dinner spot provides farm to table food in a barn that's made with 300-year-old beams. They have a huge garden area that you can view outside and they have a large outdoor seating area with heaters so even on a cooler night it provides comfortable dining experience. We were seated inside and were a party of six. It was a little tight at the table because we were right up against the wall, so there was very little room for our table chairs to go. We tried the stuffed peppers and the bread service as a starter and they were both delicious. For my main entrée, I had the chicken. It was moist and seasoned perfectly. The vegetables were delicious although they could've been cooked just a hair longer. I also have their version of their old-fashioned and it was delicious. Very well balanced.
My husband and I attended the tiki dinner event. We made reservations about 6 weeks in advance. Hoping this is an annual event! This was our first time to Sylvan Table so my review will pertain to the event versus the restaurant experience. The tiki dinner was outside near the barn. We were seated at communal tables. Love how we were greeted with a lei. My husband and I showed up in Hawaiian clothes too! Our five course dinner (really 7 courses) with 5 cocktails (mocktails were an option too) was incredible! I knew we were getting 5 courses, but the 5 cocktails was a surprise! I tried all the drinks but couldn't finish the last two. The Aloe-ha Spritz was so refreshing. One of my favorites! The night was so great. Each meal came out with a cocktail pairing. We had live music throughout dinner too. At the end of the night, we were surprised with fire dancers! Pretty incredible! Definitely want to come back and try dinner. I was able to take a sneak peek. It's beautiful. Absolutely love how beautiful the bar is!

Such a cool farm to table experience! The restaurant is inside an old barn that was relocated and rebuilt, with seating inside and covered outdoor seating. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Since it's a working farm, they use as much as they can straight from their garden, which is just yards away. You can really taste the freshness! Because of this, the menu is constantly changing with a few items that are always available. The short rib was the star. Very tender, well-seasoned, and practically falling apart. And the drinks (not pictured) were just as good. Every one we tried was delicious! There's plenty of parking right out front, and they also offer farm tours you can book online. I love sylvan table! They have a rotating menu and you can always go see the farms on the property to see the fresh veggies growing. Loved everything about our experience! The farmhouse was so charming with all the rustic decor. The beef gnocchi was so good. Things were a bit slow but it was very busy so we didn't mind at all. Will be back! read more

My husband and I came here today for the first time, his birthday is tomorrow. We lucked out and got a reservation also today, I don't know if they opened up reservations late or something or just a slew of them opened up, but I grabbed a 6:15 p.m. one. Our waiter was Ian and he was very personable. We were seated at a table next to the kitchen, they have an open kitchen so it was pretty interesting to see. I do think next time I would have preferred sitting in the atrium-type area near the back of the restaurant but it was fun to see them work. We ordered: -Sylvan 75 for my husband -NA hibiscus drink for me, because I'm pregnant. Kind of expensive, $14, but with a sugar rim, and very tasty. -Asparagus. This was the only miss of the night for me, mostly because of the red pepper flakes making it a little spicy. -Mushrooms. Very tasty -Cavatelli - I was leaning towards getting the ribeye or pork but my husband suggested this, and I was glad he did because I really liked it. I'm pretty sure they make the pasta in-house and you can tell. -Lamb sausage. This was my husband's dish and he really enjoyed it as well. -Sundae. Again a little pricey, $12, but the strawberry syrup was great and they brought out a little candle for him as well. Overall I would definitely come back here, I would probably give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. They have a little outdoor area where you can eat also, there was a party there tonight though. (Outdoors but insulated) The one thing to be aware of is there is a 3% credit card fee. They are very transparent about this, it's posted on their reservation page and also around the restaurant, so we brought cash to use. It does irk me a bit when fine dining places do this, though. Other than that I thought everything was great and lived up to my expectations, I had been waiting to come here since it opened a few years ago. read more

Went here for my birthday and was not at all disappointed with the food or service! I ordered the sea bass and the waitress was nice and warned me it comes with the face, and even though I don't care if the fish has the face or not, it's nice that they were sensitive to those who may not like that. She even gave me a tiny homemade ceramic pig for my birthday before we left :) Great space too, as it's on a farm where they grow their own food and such. read more

Absolutely amazing service and food!!! Our server Miranda was so knowledgeable and sweet and made our meal enjoyable. The drink was so well balanced and perfect as well. Will DEFINITELY be back!!!! read more
I am so inspired and impressed by this place. For so many reasons beyond the amazing Farm to Table menu options. Party of Six and everyone loved what they ordered. There is something for everybody here. I am a plant-based eater and had the most amazing zucchini noodle creation. They have cocktails and mocktails and healthy sodas and the space is magnificent wherever you sit. If I lived here, I would be here every week but I live in California so whenever I visit my family and friends, I will be back! read more

Sylvan Table is always such a treat. Everything we had was full of flavor and so fresh -- the kind of food that makes you slow down and really enjoy it. Dessert was the perfect finish, and the setting made it even better: flowers on the tables, twinkle lights as the sun set, and the dogs running through the garden in their little outfits. A place that always feels special without trying too hard. Been here 3x now!! read more

Every single time I've come here over the years it's been consistently delicious and wonderful service and atmosphere. We have closed out the restaurant repeatedly and they did not ever bother us. Servers went over and above for occasions giving cards signed by the staff and desserts. Seasonal drinks/menu, home made bread and emphasis on locally sourced fresh food is legit and ideal. This week their French onion soup was rich with flavor and would pay rent to live in it! read more
Venue is beautiful and has a very up north feel. We really appreciated how seriously they took a food allergy for one of our friends. Food was unique and very good. The only downside was even though we had a reservation it still took over 20 mins for us to be seated at a table. read more
Just as an update to my original post on this restaurant. It really has some very beautiful grounds with many vegetables and flower gardens surrounding the building. Really something to be seen and appreciated during daylight hours. If you are in the area you should definitely check this place out as it adds meaning to the phrase farm to table restaurant. read more
I had a lovely experience as a first time guest at Sylvan Table. It's highly recommended to have a reservation- unfortunately we weren't able to get one, so we got there right when they opened to grab some bar seating. Even these fill up quickly! The bar staff was so lively and had great recommendations. They change their menu every few weeks. We were told they use a lot of vegetables grown from their garden and they also have a pastry chef on site. We ordered the bread service and kale caesar for starters. The bread is currently "orange ricotta". It was the perfect texture. I'll have to say the orange was notable and it didn't taste quite right to me because of that (I'm not an orange fan- so I could have anticipated this). The kale salad was outstanding. It had white anchovies, which put together the salad. For entree I had the pork chop. I was able to sub broccolini instead of potatoes. The broccolini was perfect! The pork chop was thick and moist. It could have boasted a little more flavor to me- would have been great with some sort of sauce. My family had the chicken and the short rib. They both enjoyed theirs and from the bites I had- were also great. The star of the night was the hazelnut baked Alaska. I've never been blessed to eat this dish, but I'm so glad to have gotten it here. Hazelnut was the perfect flavoring for this! My boyfriend and I have been wanting to check out Sylvan table for awhile now and we finally decided to make a reservation the other night. This was some of the best food/drinks we've had in awhile! We love that everything tasted fresh and the environment was warm and inviting. The staff was great, i can't remember our servers name but she was awesome and so helpful. Danny was great too and made our experience next level with some drinks they had on special. There's still so much we want to try and cant wait to bring some friends with us next time! read more

Went here for my birthday on a Sunday night, and I was so impressed!! Our server was Whitney, and she was extremely attentive, personable, kind, and professional. She was extremely knowledgeable of the food and drink menu, and gave very good recs of what to order. The chicken under a brick was delicious, and so was the Samoa old fashioned. Super good options for pork, seafood, chicken, and vegan options :) Once again, Whitney was the best!! read more
Hidden just out of site is a charming restaurant that is so much more than just a restaurant. It's an experience. Waze was instrumental in finding this hidden gem as it's tucked behind a fairly blah stretch of Orchard Lake Road. Turn down what is basically a residential street and Sylvan Table appears like a rustic Phoenix! TS saw my eyes light up as I soaked it all in. The owners have moved an antique Maine barn to Sylvan Lake Michigan and created a beautiful (if a bit barren and cold in December) oasis. The inside is as inviting as the outside with a beautiful space buzzing with activity on a cold December night. A Roaring fireplace and beautiful Christmas decor set the stage for a wonderful evening. We were seated upstairs at a nice corner table and the super friendly server was there in a flash to take our drink order. I had my usual, Grey Goose Martini on the rocks with bco's, TS opted for a house Pinot Grigio. Both hit the spot taking the chill off and were delicious. Our server went over some specials, and the menu had a varied selection of great sounding entrees. We started with a charcuterie board with their own house made crackers, cheeses and meats including a decadent pate'. And as an added bonus we were brought a few roasted brussel sprouts with cranberry chutney, fantastic! For our main course TS opted for the pork chop with root vegetables and I had the roasted chicken with the same sides. Both were delicious and juicy being cooked over a wood fire! Now Sylvan Table is a farm to table restaurant which could be daunting on a long cold Michigan winter. And part of the farm must be on their 5 acres. I bet those root vegetables were picked and stored on site for use all winter just like an old timey farm. Ee ate like we hadca tip on a famine and washed it down with a big bold red. But there was still room for more. For dessert we split a slice of Buche Noel and some coffee. The dessert was a work of art. As we made our way out we realized we were the last ones there. So after a picture in front of the Christmas tree we were gone. All in a magical experience with food, service and ambiance that can't be beat. And the company, well that goes without saying! Food was amazing but our service was and all time high. Maranda was the absolute best I've ever had as a waitress. Me and my friend dined in for valentines as we are single baddies. Definitely will be coming back for Maranda. We got the bone marrow, and Brussels sprouts to share. Then I got the short rib, my friend got the fish cakes. We came here around 5:00 on a Saturday for my husbands birthday. We had a reservation for 5:15. We were a bit early but they sat us right away. This is a farm to table experience and we walked around the farm for a few minutes before going inside. We saw a staff member outside picking flowers and herbs, which we then recognized on our plates which was pretty cool. We started with some drinks and the bread service. The bread of the day was a pepper Parmesan loaf. It came with three butters (salted, butternut squash, and cinnamon honey). The bread was fantastic! It was warm and crunchy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside. We next got main dishes. I got the chicken under a brick and I think it was the best chicken I have ever had. It was so moist and tender with good flavor. My mom got the ribs and got a fatty piece and they switched it out for the chicken. The guys both got the rainbow trout and loved it. We also got some shareable sides: mashed potato, beets, Brussels sprouts, and mushroom risotto. They were all delicious but my favorite was the mashed potatoes! After dinner they brought a hand signed birthday card for my husband with a candle (just in a dish, not with a dessert which we thought was a little weird). Overall we had a great time! 3 1/2 years later, and I have to say I still absolutely love this space and this place. Megan ,Dillon, Whitney , Sara And Doyle are some of the reasons why I adore this place .My husband and I always tend to sit at the bar. It's a beautiful space to enjoy cocktails and light faire Tonight, the service along with the cocktails,( a delicious skinny spicy pineapple margarita curated by Dillon ) appetizers and the divinely fresh blueberry strawberry sorbet were exceptional . I am so happy I can walk here and I cannot wait until they open their freestanding bodega(that's what I'm calling it. I don't know what they're calling it) in my neighborhood. read more

We had our anniversary dinner here this year and will definitely consider going here again . Our waitress was attentive at all of the right times and made the evening nice. The food was great and portions can be shared. The ambience is wonderful especially if you like an old barn atmosphere. When I made our reservations they asked if we were celebrating. When we finished our dinner they brought champagne, dried flowers and a card signed by the employees. Overall an awesome experience read more

Is Sylvan table kid friendly?
The dining area (particularly outside) is probably kid friendly. The menu - maybe not so much, depending on the kid. For more daring eaters, possibly.
What is the dress code?
We were there for a 5pm Sunday dinner. People were dressed very casually. I'd go 'nice casual'. Friday or Saturday prime time evenings could be different--maybe someone else could answer that.
Can we bring our own wine?
Call them. I'm unsure if any other upscale restaurants allow you to bring in your own drinks but to be sure call them.
Do you take walk ins? I see the reservations online are booked way out for a decent time?
You can walk in and sit at the bar or the patio. I recommend getting there right when they open.
