Another view of the same giant onion top that was supposed to be chives in a baked potato
Wesley T.

I arrived and walked in the door, where I had to wait on a couple in front of me. There was some confusion about which table was available. The host and the server had a quick discussion, and apparently, a misunderstanding ensued. The guests ahead of me were seated but then had to move to a different table because the server was not taking tables. I don't know what was going on. I was seated promptly--I literally only had to wait 45 seconds, if that--and was seated at a clean table. My server came over, greeted me, gave me a menu, and took my drink order. About 12 seconds after he left the table, another gentleman walked up and addressed me as "big man." He then asked me what I'd like to drink. I told him someone had already gotten my drink order. He asked me who and then said, "Was it a big guy?" I replied, "No, it was a little guy with a brand new mustache." Shortly thereafter, my server, the little guy, brought my drink out, along with the bread. The top of the bread was either burnt or had been left in the warmer too long; it was as hard as a rock about a quarter of an inch to a half inch into the bread. I told him that apparently, there was someone else bidding for my service. "The guy who called me "big man"." He walked over, had a few words with the other server, and he inevitably was the correct server. The little guy took good care of me and was an excellent server, checking on me regularly. Overall, the restaurant was clean. The outside, the patio area, and the parking lot were all clean. Everything appeared to be up and up, perfect. I ordered a steak, baked potato, and salad. The salad was good with no problems. The steak and baked potato arrived, and the baked potato looked amazing. But as soon as I stuck my fork in it, I encountered an entire onion top that had been haphazardly and barely cut, so it was an entire piece of onion top about 5 inches long. The steak was supposed to be a ribeye; I'm not sure if it was or not. It was a very tough steak but was cooked to the correct temperature and seasoned correctly. The baked potato and the salad were good. I did call my server's attention to the enormously large onion and told him to remind the back of the house that their job performance directly affects the earnings of the front-of-the-house employees. Servers don't get minimum wage; they work for tips. If the back of the house, who gets paid sufficiently to do their job, doesn't do their job, then the front of the house suffers financially, and that is very unfair. So, back of the house, get your act together. The front of the house is depending on you, and so are the customers! There was a pretty good amount of horseplay going on when I arrived because they were so slow, and at one point I heard a female's voice saying no quit it quit it no stop it Like she was being harassed or bullied in the kitchen or the back area somewhere. Hopefully it was just a YouTube video...

I was able to make a reservation through Yelp, and although our reservation was pretty late at 8 PM, we walked in and luckily grabbed seats at the bar instead. That ended up being the best part of the night. Both bartenders were absolutely amazing. One was incredibly knowledgeable about wine, while the other knew everything about spirits, so we ended up getting a mini education on all kinds of drinks and even did a little tasting. It made the whole experience so much fun and interactive. We eventually settled on a bottle of red wine and shared a filet mignon. I highly recommend ordering the potatoes because whoever prepares them is seriously talented. They were thinly sliced and stacked into this beautiful cake-like structure that completely melted in your mouth. Between chatting with the bartenders and the people sitting next to us, we ended up staying much longer than planned simply because we were enjoying ourselves so much. I honestly don't have a single bad thing to say about this place. It's more than just dinner -- it's an experience, and I highly recommend checking it out.

We had the porterhouse and au gratin potatoes, a wedge salad, and clam chowder, plus desserts. Steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The potatoes were absolutely amazing- yum yum. The carrot cake was delicious and huge. Going to be eating it for days.

I was solo and sat at the bar as the restaurant was full and that was the only option for a walk-in. However the seating was nice, service was outstanding and super fast. I asked for recommendations and was happy I listened to my waiter. I had the She Crab soup and honestly, it was the best I have ever tasted. It was more like a bisque and super tasty and rich and had lots of crab. I would put this recipe in the She Crab Hall of Fame it was that good. I then ordered the blackened Carolina Redfish and holy moly this dish was devine. It was a chargrilled blackened redfish over super smooth whipped potatoes, generous portion of lump crab, and just the perfect amount of citrus beurre blanc (note I deleted the spinach on my dish) and it was one of the best fish preparation I have ever had. I simply can't believe how delicate and soft and tasty this dish was. Unreal preparation and flavor that I would gladly order again and again. I really don't visit this part of the country that often, but this place will definitely be calling be back very soon.

Tonight was fantastic. We had dinner at 6 pm. The place was almost full. We finished at 8 and it is still packed!! Very impressive to be so busy. I ordered salmon... rare.. because I like it undercooked and hate it overcooked. This place cooked it to perfection just as I asked. That is rare. Richard ordered the seafood stew. He ate every morsel... included wreckfish, shrimp, scallops... he loves a good scallop... and these were tasty and cooked perfectly. We highly recommend this restaurant. Our waitress, Mary, was very informative and professional. Quite a wonderful meal.

Spoke to owner on august 31, and she said her cost have went up, and I agree with that, so has Cranes and Fat baby pizza on Hilton Head, but they don't charge $12.50 for a mixed drink. A whole bottle of vodka at $12.50 a drink, makes your mark up $190 dollars a bottle. I know well enough that profit is not a dirty word, and you have cost, but your prices are very out of touch with overall prices in the Hilton head. Your service is great, your atmosphere is very nice, but your prices are high for your quality. Thank you. In closing you might want to eat out and see where you stand in pricing.

Their menu truly has something for everyone. I'm more of an adventurous eater than my mother and HogsHead has unique options and more classic ones too. Their dining room is warm and inviting as is their bar area. We started with their Warm Brie & Pear "Jezebel" appetizer, which was like a deconstructed version of baked brie. It had prosciutto, pecans, spinach, cranberry and an orange ginger vinaigrette. It was delicious! For our entrees, I ordered one of the specials, the Jambalaya. My mom got the BBQ ribs and my fiance had the Caribbean Jerk Pork Chops. All three entrees were out of this world. It was easily one of the best meals I've had in the Hilton Head area. There's one chef and a sous chef in the kitchen, and they're knocking it out of the park. I highly recommend HogsHead!

We got there 15 minutes after they opened and the only ones seated at the bar. You would think they would be on top of things that early in the evening. Nope, my wife had to wait 18 minutes to get her wine (which we bought the whole bottle). Second, they haven't changed their fryer oil in FOREVER!!!! Yes, I know what I'm talking about. As it being an open kitchen and you can see everything. We witnessed them take oil they just cooked in a pan and dump it in the fryer with the other oil. Are ya kidding me??? All the fried food came out dark as all get out it's been that long since they changed it or even filtered it. Third, some of the cook wore gloves and others didn't. No big deal normally. I watched one cook reach in the garbage and then proceeded to start preparing food!!!! No fing way!!!! Four, the Egg Roll was bland, the inside ingredients was garbage. Over cooked and tough. My wife's filet was under seasoned (well no seasoning at all), a cheap cut of meat and dry!!! The béarnaise sauce tasted and looked like it came out of a jar. It was the worst I've ever tasted. She asked for no vegetables and the risotto instead. She did get the risotto. I'll admit, that wasn't so bad. The bread that was under the filet was ICE cold. Not even sure why they served it or put it on the plate. Fifth, this is a one and done for us. There are soooooo many better options in the area with a better menu, price and service. To say disappointing is an understatement. Oh ya, almost forgot. We had to get a Togo bag and it reminded me of the bags you use to pick up your dogs poop. I'm not even joking.

I have heard so many mixed reviews about this restaurant especially after the previous owners…read moreretired and new management took over! So I had to find out for myself! I took my husband here as a treat and I was actually so pleasantly surprised! The vibes in this place definitely give more of an upscale vibe which I did enjoy! It's much larger than your expecting when you first walk in! It's moody and elegant! The service was top of the line! We consistently had meat offered to us when our chip was down. And once they noticed all the meat had been tried then continued to ask us if we had any requests! And then brought us those requests in a timely manner. I noticed there was always someone watching in a distance to insure you were well taken care of and would come and fill out waters for us and take plates out of the way. The salad bar had a decent amount of choices along with the hot bar. Not as many as your Texas de Brazil or chain spot. But I was actually enjoying the options way more than I thought I would. The meats were flavorful and cooked to our personal liking! Which everyone is different so be aware it's between medium and rare. My personal favorite was the lamb! I really enjoyed the cheese with honey they handed out and actually regret not eating more of it! My only reason for four stars is I don't love that they don't give you an option of tap. Even if fine dinning I've always been offered a way to not pay for my water. The other reason is the music they play in here is like Britney Spears but sang slowly by a kinda cruddy singer. It was getting slightly annoying towards the end. Overall we paid $130 for a treat! I definitely would come here again! Although I do wish they had an option to just enjoy the sides. They used to have a menu but we were never handed one during our time here.
