Local diner with amazing food. Definitely worth the visit when visiting Custer State Park.

5 star every hour their clocks do a little dance! But beware of the pancakes that are lurking being made in the back kitchen! ... By that I just mean they're ridiculously big. -Oliver 11

Menu cover. They have some Betty Boop decor here, but not crazy!

I wanted to give them 4 stars, but there were just enough misses to keep it in the middle. It's away from the high traffic on the highway, so no wait. Lots of Americana and kudos to veterans. Service was very good. Bathroom and tables/chairs are clean. Coffee is decent. We ordered a roast beef melt w fries, and a bowl of chili. Both were pretty decent, the fries cooked perfectly, the chili meaty. Here are the misses: the place is old and needs updating. The window sills were pretty dusty. We had to send a coffee mug back because it had something on it. The roast beef melt featured mushrooms, and they were right out of the can - no attempt to brown them. But the kicker is that this is a breakfast/lunch place and they have a hard stop for breakfast at 11. Very sad to those of us who got here at 11:05. Because the breakfast orders that were still coming out looked great.

Lots of fun memorabilia to discover at this local eating establishment.

Very slow service. Not sure what they were doing as it wasn't that busy. It took an hour to get our food. Food was just okay.

When you walk in it smelt like smoke really bad. Ordered our food and it took forever to get it and on top of that it wasn't homemade.

It's a tiny setup with only a few parking spots and a drive-through, but they make great use of the space. The menu is surprisingly extensive for such a small spot -- specialty coffee drinks, Lotus energy drinks, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and plenty of quick meal options. We tried the cappuccino, caramel macchiato, and the Gold Digger sandwich with chicken, avocado, roasted tomatoes, and provolone on ciabatta. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. What I liked most is that they don't try too hard to be trendy or overcomplicated -- it's simply well-made coffee and solid grab-and-go food. Service was great. Perfect stop if you're passing through and want something quick that still feels quality. Would absolutely come back again.

Many times they were busy and they handled the rush so well... we were quite impressed! I enjoy stopping at various coffee shops to try them out and this one has been memorable for me. The flavoring is always on par + so smooth. Their customer service is great and timely. The look of their shop and option of drive-thru a plus! I feel like you can't go wrong with this place + they really are a standout coffee shop. I even purchased a tumbler from them to remember our times out in Custer with. Drinks ordered were an Irish cream latte, huckleberry latte, + English toffee latte. I'd recommend them all! There wasn't one that was a miss... all were great with flavor + not syrupy tasting/ smooth. Although I do have to recommend sipping on a huckleberry latte while hiking around lake sylvan! (; I also ordered an outlaw breakfast sandwich was to die for! So flavorful + tasty! Thanks so much, Miner's Cup!

Fresh oysters for breakfast...in South Dakota? Yes, please!…read more My wife and I stumbled upon this gem on a recent trip through the Black Hills. A note about the restaurant from their website: Erik and Camillia opened Hjem A.M. in 2022 with one goal in mind: bring amazing breakfast food to the Black Hills. The food's focus is seasonality and is inspired by Scandinavian/American flavors. "Hjem" means home in Danish. Camillia and Erik found their home in Custer and want to be your home in the morning. Everything was divine. We wanted to sample the menu so we ordered "The Bob" (pancakes with lemon cream and lingonberry), Lobster eggs Benedict which they were out of unfortunately so the gave us some oysters as an apology. Their quiche of the day was a Mexican inspired elote style with a flaky crust and delightful crema, topped with some pickled onions. Their hollandaise was likely the best I've ever had. The accompanying potatoes and hash browns were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Ashly ordered a sausage patty that included a few chili flakes to wake up the tastebuds. I'd mentioned Ashly's birthday and they brought out a birthday treat - rice pudding topped with dried apricots and granola. And a candle on the side. We certainly felt at home at this lovely place. It had a charming decor and the service was top notch. Be sure to stop by on your next trip to the Black Hills.
