There's a nice bar area with lots of craft beers for the inevitable wait, and we overall enjoyed our experience. they apparently also have gluten free pizza if someone you know is gluten free. About pizza size: The individual pizzas are actually pretty big -- you really only need one between 2 people, or a large for 3 people. After hearing much about this place around harvard square I decided to give it a try. I got one plain slice because I believe pizza is judged on it's simplicity. All I can say is what a waist of calories. There was absolutley NO flavor. The sauce had no flavor and you can tell the cheese is also of the lowest quality. I've been to this location a few times and experienced the good, the bad, and the indifferent, and I feel ready to write a formal review. It is interesting that in the 3 times I've been to Otto, we have not yet sat at a table. It's not that it's impossible but it's painstaking to the point of not having patience for it. (For example the 45 minute wait that turned into 1 hr and 45 min). The line/crowd on a weekend night when you might want to go is like a moat of tar - don't get sucked into it. Instead, I recommend that you either order to go or hover near the bar where you can sit down when a spot opens up. Order your beer, wine, cider, soda, what have you and eat your hot slices of pizza and tasty salad when they arrive. Don't look back. The slices are yummy although there certainly are some offbeat combinations. It's cheaper to order a whole pie as opposed to different slices but the tummy wants what it wants. I like Otto and having fancy pizza and sitting at a fancy bar. Someday I might get to sit at those fancy tables, too. read more

While I had gotten takeout from this location and a slice from one of their counter service locations, this was my first sit-down experience here. To start off, there was quite a long wait to get a table. Still, this was okay - it was a Saturday night and we were told in advance it would about forty-five minutes. We were still waiting for the other half of our party to arrive and this left us with enough time to go across the street to Peet's and get some tea. When we came back, we still had quite a bit of waiting to do, even though we were told we were next in line. As it turned out, many of the other tables of four had finished and paid and were now just lounging around. Kind of annoying, but not exactly Otto's fault. After about an hour, we were seated at the "communal table", along with another party of four. The hostess mentioned that we could wait for another table of four to clear up, but at the point, we were hungry, and those other tables were showing no signs of leaving. It is somewhat annoying that you can't actually customize the pizzas at all. You have to choose from their pre-decided combinations of toppings, and they don't do half-and-half, which meant that we had to settle for two small pizzas, rather than one large. The pizzas took another forty five minutes to arrive, which, as we were informed by our waitress, was due to a mess up in the kitchen. Whether or not this was true, she immediately docked the cost of one of the pizzas off of our bill, which was really nice. After all, some places make you wait for hours without so much as a word. As for the pizzas themselves, they are really good - especially when you're super hungry from having to wait so long. But they're still not the best I've had, or even among the top five. We got the kalamata, pepper and garlic pizza which was good, though I do wish it had more olives, and my brother got the margherita, which admittedly, I didn't try (not really a huge fan of tomato slices on my pizza). Skip the salad - the caesar was unremarkable, and for some reason I can't comprehend, took nearly as long to arrive as the pizza. Still, with one pizza docked, the bill came out to about $20 before tip. For a sit-down dinner for four people, including drinks, that's not bad at all. The half hour wait was a bit ridiculous (more of a reflection of the lack of restaurants facing too great a demand rather than Otto being worth any sort of wait). Wine list was unimpressive, so I'll stick to beer in the future. Some of the pizza had some bizarre combinations, which is saying a lot coming from me. Pizza was solid and 1 small pizza to split was perfect for two of us girls (we ordered two and literally took an entire pizza home). Again, probably the best pizza in the Coolidge Corner area, but that's not saying a lot at all. Given that this restaurant mini-chain is from Portland, ME, I expected better. However, convenient if the wait at Regal Beagel is just too obnoxious. This place could be useful for take-out, though. read more

Otto has a wide variety of unique and creative thin crust pizzas on the menu. Overall, I found Otto to be an average restaurant. There are several positive reviews on yelp, but you have to keep in mind that most of these reviews are written by college students since the location is in Coolidge Corner. Personally, I found the quality of ingredients to be quite subpar. The prices are certainly reasonable though! The service was also disappointing. I requested to have my pizza with no cheese on half of it. They refused to accommodate my request. They stated that you cannot split pizzas in half. What annoyed me was that I was not requesting to split two separate pizzas. I was simply asking to have half of my pizza without cheese because I am lactose intolerant. This policy is quite bizarre! I have tried the following pizzas: - Butternut Squash, Ricotta and Cranberry - Apple, Bacon and Red Onion - White Bean, Sausage, Herb & Red Flake My favorite was the sausage and white bean pizza. This was very flavorful and tasty. Overall, this is a decent restaurant. If you are a college student, it is absolutely perfect because it is very reasonably priced. I ate here for dinner recently with my partner. We had just finished moving into a place in Brookline and needed a warm meal to soothe our tired bodies and exhausted spirits. Otto is a cool cozy pizza joint at home in Coolidge Corner tucked away neatly on the corner of Green St. and Harvard St. I'm told in a past life the location was a McDonald's... I'd say Otto is an upgrade. We ordered a small Butternut Squash, Ricotta and Cranberry pie and a Spicy Pulled Pork with Scallion and Herb. Both were delightful. The Squash pie was our favorite! I've walked by this place many times and finally tried their pizza. I really like the feel of the space since it's so open and rustic. I ordered two large pizzas: an eggplant one and a chicken and basil one. The pizza took about 15 min to cook so it wasn't too bad. Both pizzas were a good size and pretty delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the dough was soft. However, I just can't bring myself to give it more stars because in the end... it's still pizza. I really enjoy coming to this restaurant. I've been to this location a few times and the one in Portland. The pizza selection is always very creative and tasty, and I like how you can get order by the slice. The beer choices are usually very good and they have great seasonal options as well. However, every time coming to this location I've had a very unwelcoming and rude bartender. He just seems like he is miserable every shift he works. The first time coming there he had forgotten to even put our pizza order in. He never even apologized. Instead he made it seem like the kitchen lost the ticket even though it was blatantly obvious it was never rang in. We ordered dessert and that never came as well. He apologized several times for that but really did nothing about it. The next visit in he was still the same, expect we were the only people at the bar so he couldn't forget our order. The pizza is delicious, the servers friendly, the ambience fun. I like that they serve beer. I've had some great meals in the restaurant itself. However, I am really disappointed in their take-out service. I've called a couple times for pizzas, was told 25 minutes, and ended up waiting for 45 minutes for the pizza. Tonight I called to ask for a couple of slices, and was told "We don't do slice orders over the phone because we like the slices to be at the right temperature when people eat them." First of all, it doesn't make actual physical sense, since a whole pizza will cool off when waiting for someone to pick it up the same way a slice would. Second, why make someone wait for 30 minutes in the restaurant for a slice of pizza instead of calling ahead? You are a PIZZA place, you are not allowed to be so pretentious. Been here many times now, but always a good experience. There can be a wait, but it's worth it. The pizza combos are creative and delicious. I've enjoyed the mashed potato pizza and the pulled pork and mango pizza in particular. There's a nice atmosphere inside and there's ample window space to people watch outside if you are near the wall. It's also awesome that you can take slices to go. Good pizza? Definitely, and there are so many options to choose from. Beer selection? Kinda limited, but what they do have was good. Price? No surprises; pretty much what you'd expect from a Coolidge Corner semi-gourmet pizza joint. Worth it? I'd say so. I recommend if you are with a friend, order two small pizzas and share... and you'll have about 1/4 pie left over. Nice establishment? Yeah, definitely. It's in the heart of Coolidge Corner. There is also plenty of seating for lunch, though I'm curious what dinner or weekends look like. Staff? A little slow, but very friendly. There was one waitress for a weekday lunch and she basically disappeared on us a couple of times, causing us and the one other couple in the place to twiddle our thumbs waiting for her. The hostess was nowhere to be found, too, for quite some time so we couldn't even hail anyone for assistance. The pizza here is definitely solid - it reminds me of upper crust, but a little more refined. We tried 2 pies - the chicken, mushroom & fontina (white pie), and the ricotta, roasted tomato & basil (red pie). Both were very enjoyable - the chicken was cut into nice thin, bite sized pieces. The roasted tomato pungency paired with the creamy dollops of ricotta was also satisfying. I give a slight nod to the chicken of these two choices. Their pie is thin crust with cornmeal on the bottom, and they cook it well so that it comes out unburnt, but the slices are structurally sound and don't flop around. I had heard some really good things about their pie, and while it was satisfying, it isn't QUITE there in terms of blowing you away. I would definitely go back and try more of their flavor combos - went with some relatively tame ones on the first pass. read more

Visited OTTO with a friend before a movie and we were both impressed. We had a time limit, so we didn't know if we should get slices or sit down and get waiter service. The hostess suggested we sit at the slice bar, since there's service there. Ok. But it turned out you can't order slices at the slice bar. That was confusing. In any event, we ended up splitting a small Four Cheese pie and a Romaine & Fennel salad. Both were delicious!! The pie had nice clumps of ricotta on it- my favorite part. The pie was the perfect size for us to split as well. The one thing I didn't understand was the pricing- the difference between the large and small pies and slices. The menu is not very clear. I will definitely go back to OTTO. The variety in toppings was really interesting and I need to try another soon! read more

I have tried a few different pizzas but I really love the white bean pizza and the one with butternut squash. The pizza is a little more upscale and with some fun and surprising combinations. If you are picky and only want to eat pepperoni/cheese pizza you will probably not be as in love with this place as the more adventurous eaters - their special, unique pizzas are the ones that shine. Good beer on tap, nice wine list, and nice decor make for a fun but casual date night. It can be especially interesting if you are seated at one of the communal tables. There is almost always a wait but I usually spend that time in the booksmith down the street. To the person who says you cannot change anything on the pizza - we almost always add/remove/swap an ingredient and the staff has never had an issue. read more

OTTO pizza is a beloved pizzeria in the area with a few locations around Boston and other cities. They have options for small and large pies, build your own, and also individual slices. What they don't tell you is that you can't get an individual slice for ANY of their pizzas, it is only the 8 for the day. So if you plan in ordering just a slice, make sure you ask the waiter/waitress what the options are while they are getting your water. We had already spent an eternity choosing our optimal combination of individual slices and doing half pizzas, only to be foiled when our waitress said we couldn't do half pizzas and they couldn't do individual slices for the ones we wanted. After another 5 minutes, we finally decided. We ordered: - butternut squash, ricotta and cranberry - spinach, white bean and roasted garlic - mashed potato, bacon and scallion - pulled pork and mango - chicken, mushroom and cheese They were all amazing and really fun flavors that I didn't quite expect on a pizza. OTTO's expansion into the Greater Boston Area was more than welcome by me, a long time fan of the original from Portland ME. The often bizarre (but delicious) combinations of ingredients made it a standout, even in a city like Portland, where rampant food snobbery may have painted it as a wacky fly-by-night hipster endeavor, were it not so unanimously accepted as truly inspired. Having been to all but two OTTO locations, I can take a leap of faith and declare the Coolidge Corner location to be the best in the chain. The bigger location means more staff, more seating, and often faster service and more choices for slices. Be prepared to pay more per slice than your average pizzeria; in all fairness, it is not your average pizzeria. read more

We visited during the end of the lunch hour, and the restaurant wasn't busy. After being seated, we waited five minutes for anyone to address us. Then we waited (and waited) to place our order. No one checked on us after receiving the pizza. When we were finished, we waited another ten minutes before going to the register to request a box and our check. After speaking with the girl at takeout she convinced me to try the bacon, mashed potato & scallion slice, one of their best sellers. It looked amazing but it was just ok. I didn't think the flavors were anything to write home about and unfortunately, it had a slight burnt taste- but hey, maybe it spent a little too time in the oven (sad face). Either way, I loved the layout of the restaurant, the big open windows and friendly approach of the staff. A pleasant change from other local pizza places Located in the heart of Coolidge Corner, Otto offers a variety of departures from the traditional this crust pizza that you will find in neighboring pizza places. The staff are helpful and prompt. The restaurant itself if vibrant and fun. The smell of fresh pizza fills the air and gives the restaurant a very pleasant atmosphere. Otto offers a variety of tomato-based and "white" pizzas. We tried the mushroom and ricotta pizza. It arrived piping hot and delicious. The large pizza is really more of a medium sized pie and would feed 2-3 people depending on how hungry they might be. The crust is crisp by fluffy at the edges. The dough is slightly sweet and compliments the salt of the cheese and other toppings. The pizza had a good amount of mushroom and large dollops of sweet ricotta cheese. The blend of mozzarella and asiago cheese was perfect for this pizza. Overall, Otto offers a nice variety of pizzas with some creativity and originality that lifts it above local competitors like Upper Crust. The pizza crust itself is superior and the large selection of pizzas should encourage repeat visits. We will certainly be back. read more

We ordered a build your own pizza with goat cheese, onion, and arugula on top, being sure to specify that the onions were cooked. They did not have the goat cheese, and the pizza showed up with COOKED salad (not sure it was arugula) and almost raw white onions. When we asked the waiter why the salad was cooked, he curtly offered to bring a bowl of more fresh salad to put on top. The pizza was greasy and frankly made me feel ill. I get that this isn't supposed to be a gourmet pizza joint, but I've had cafeteria pizza that was better (and the lunch ladies were more service oriented to boot). read more
