This is country cooking at it's finest. The baked apples had the perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar and quite literally melted in my mouth. The sausage patties were fork tender and flavorful. I've eaten breakfast in a lot of places and have never had sausage like this! And then there were the chicken tenders. I'm not normally a fan because of heavy breading and little chicken, but these were the opposite of what I thought they were going to be. These tenders were lightly breaded large pieces of perfectly cooked chicken. Last, but not least, there was the coffee. This coffee was so good that it didn't need anything added to it to make it drinkable. I was very impressed with how friendly the staff was, and how they kept the buffet tables clean and well stocked. The only downside is that the place is on the smaller side, and very popular, so it can be a bit crowded. Don't let that be a deterrent, though. The food is worth it!

The food was decent overall, and service was fairly quick during our visit. The restaurant has a unique southern-style atmosphere and definitely feels like a local spot. Well...this was unique in some good ways and more not as good ways…read more I believe Peak Bros is one of those places where the locals will tell you it's the best ever and for someone like me who has eaten at 500 or so BBQ restaurants in the last 10 years, will disagree with that. Let's start with the good - my sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. It was the best part of the meal. The potato salad was good. It was a mustard-mayo mix base and homestyle. I usually want to try it all at a BBQ joint I've never been to. They do have a combo plate that fits that need. It comes with a rib, brisket, sliced pork, sliced mutton, chipped mutton, and ham. It only comes with one side and bread. I'm not a ham person and usually avoid it, but there was something special about this ham. It was juicy and it had a great taste to it. They are known for their ham but if the ham is the standout on a BBQ plate, well you might have a problem. The chipped mutton was also really good. If you have never had mutton before, you can only find it in this part of Kentucky. The chipped mutton soaked up the vinegar style BBQ sauce. It was also worth eating on the plate if you like BBQ lamb. Surprisingly, the brisket was actually pretty good too except it was just a mismatch with the very thin, vinegar sauce. Now for the bad news - the rib and sliced pork was just awful. I couldn't stand to eat the pretty tasteless pork and the rib was almost inedible. The sliced mutton was just as bad as the rib. It was tough and inedible. I didn't hate the sauce. It was a very thin, vinegar style and the bread went well with it because it soaked it up. The sauce went well with the chipped mutton and if they had done pulled pork, it probably would have went well with that too. It was just a mismatch for every other meat and with just one sauce to choose from, it wasn't a good thing. I wanted to know what else was on the menu that people liked and I got three different answers, which tells me...to each his own. I weighed between a two and three on this one but I thought the bad just outweighed the good. Peak Bros. is one of those places where it's great if you are local but for someone like me with 300 something Yelp reviews on BBQ joints, it was pretty bad BBQ. I would eat their ham at Christmas though.

Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. When we arrived, there was a table of four who had already eaten and were just sitting and talking. We stood at the counter for about 10 minutes, even called out toward the kitchen, but no one ever came out. As we were leaving, we spoke with a gentleman outside, and I noticed another customer go in. Over the 20 minutes we stood there talking, that person was still at the counter as well. I don't know if they had been helped already or not, so I don't want to assume, but from what I saw, there didn't seem to be any staff present. It's disappointing because I really enjoyed my first time here. The food was good and the staff were very kind. I'll give it another try in the future, but I left this time without being able to order.

The menu advertises meat and vegetable plates being available daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. However, every time I come in around 6:30-7:00 p.m., I'm told those items are no longer available because they've already been put away. To make it even more frustrating, I checked the online ordering app before I came in, and it clearly showed the meat and vegetable plates were still available to order. After arriving, I was told they couldn't make one because everything had already been put away. There are plenty of fried food options available, which is great if that's what you want. But for those of us who can't eat fried foods or simply prefer the meat and vegetable plates, it's disappointing to make the trip only to find out they won't prepare what's advertised on the menu. It gives the impression that the staff simply doesn't want to take the time to make those meals that late in the evening. This has happened on multiple occasions, so it doesn't seem like a one-time issue. If the meat and vegetable plates are regularly unavailable before 8:00 p.m., then the restaurant should either update its advertised hours and online ordering or continue serving them until the posted closing time. Unfortunately, they lost a sale because I chose not to stay after finding out the meal I came for wasn't actually available.
