This is probably not the kind of store the general public is going to need to shop in every day (or every month, or maybe even every year). However, that being said, it is really nice to have a good electronics shop where all of these things are available when you need them. If you don't shop at these places and keep them alive, then don't complain when Amazon takes over the world... On April 28, 2023, Orvac Electronics in Fullerton CA off of Orangethorpe Ave is closing to the public. They will remain a supplier for commercial businesses. I read a written notice on their front door explaining this fact on April 27, 2023. Thus I went shopping at Orvac for the last time. I must have been buying electronics stuff there for 30+ years. I was told by the old guy at Cannings ACE Hardware to check with Orvac. Which by the way experience and wisdom with that man at ACE. Recognized my project needed special supplies. So we went to Orvac and found a you man stocking shelves. I described what I needed in vague terms asking home to visualize the scenario. He recognized what I was saying and said I think we have what you are looking for and walked me to the other side of store and showed me all of the available cable ducts. He said if it was going to get painted he had some almond colored ducts that were on sale. The place pretty much going out of existence, and only offering large scale industrial parts. There is now no showroom no isles of parts, the place is about as big as my kids bedroom - the days of Orvacs is over. If your lookign for parts maybe try Ham Radio Outlet or MicroCenter in Tustin. But yeah if you are expecting to find resisters, wire, switches and or connectors you will be surely disappointed - gone of the way of shopping for componets and connectors in the style of Frys Electronics & Radio Shack. Not a store that I come to very often, but the few times that I do come, we find what we need and for a good price. The store itself is a decent size with shelf after shelf of what I find to be a nicely organized and labeled supplies of what you will need. The staff has been very friendly each time I have come in. There is a bathroom here (which is nice) you just need to get a key from the employee. I am not one electronically knowledgable, but on occasion I do come with my boyfriend and I find it fun to walk the isles and see all that they have. read more

Tremendous customer service! I walked in about a half hour til closing and was asked if I needed help finding something. I explained my situation and was helped by none other than the owner himself. He went out of his way, in my opinion, to give me what I needed. When he could have had an employee handle me. In the process i learned he is the owner and son of the founder. This business has been there in the same spot since 1955 and my own father shopped there for all his electronic needs. This is what business is about. This is one of the last hold outs for people that love working with electronics.. I stopped in this morning looking for a switch to control my radios from two different batteries. Nobody came to help me or greeted me when I entered the Facility. Nobody helped me when I was over at the switches looking at what they had. I went to look for help and I was told he would call somebody over there to the switches, but nobody ever showed up. The only one that actually acknowledged me was a cashier assuming I was buying something. I do not understand customer service these days. As you might have read, eons ago, when I was moving, the scam artists at 3 Guys Moving absolutely trashed a bunch of vintage electronics that I had during a move. Fast-forward years later, and I take my late 50's early 60's Magnavox Record Player Console to Patrick and the boys at Orvac... So I take the handy cart out in their lot and roll my record player on in... Patrick and another gent take a few looks at it and the cartridge + needle, which I figured needed to be replaced. Within a few seconds, Patrick had the arm cartridge connection dislodged and had the needle ready-to-order. His partner then came back into the mix and they pushed the cartridge and needle back in its "seat" and to me -- it looked as good as new. Being the honest and hardworking geniuses that they are, they asked me to take the console home, fire it up with some Chuck Berry (okay, so I added that part), and let them know if it's fixed. If it is, great -- if not -- they could order my new needle for me. Sure enough, I get home, throw on "Brown Eyed Handsome Man," and the console is kicking in Hi-Fi Sound (remember that stuff?)! Thanks boys, for saving me time, money, and being honest and hard-working and great at your job -- I am forever an Orvac customer because of the treatment I received. read more
