Stopped to meet a friend here for coffee around 5:30. She was running late so while she arrived, I ordered a cappuccino and the pistachio and milk imported Turkish log. When I asked the waiter whats the white stuff on the log, he was like gelatin and I said, "no, I can't have that", the other employee looked up the ingredients and said, "oh it's just sugar". Know your products staff and what's in them!
The place was relatively quiet when I arrived, it was clean for the most part but I did ask the waiter to wipe down our table for us. My friend arrived about three minutes later and ordered a green matcha iced tea with the spinach pita. While everyone before us got their coffee served in a porcelain cup, mine was served in a to-go cup. My friend was a little taken back by the fact that her spinach pita was served in a to-go box. It didn't even cross my mind that they may be closing in half an hour.
We started working on our community projects and people slowly started clearing out but once again, didn't give it much thought since there were only two other people there. At 5:50 pm, I noticed they were already picking up the food from the racks and placing them in the back. That's when I got the hint to look at hours of operation. Imagine my shock when I saw they close at 6. Well, at 5:57, the guy working there was already lifting chairs and picking up the floor mats. Honestly he was being so loud and so obnoxious that as I'm writing this, I recall the sounds. So annoying. They didn't ask us to leave, he purposely started working and banging so we could get the hint to leave and I know this because I looked up at the employee as he was walking past us and I could see him looking over to us from the corner of his eye, satisfied with what he just did. How old are you? Why are you cleaning before 6 pm anyways? I think the individuals working there must only be exposed to the people living in the area who are acquainted with the hours because based off of their behavior, I don't think it ever occurred to them that someone would come down all the way from Cook County Hospital on a Friday afternoon during rush hour to make it to a meeting here at 5:30. Yes, all the way from the west side only to be so indirectly kicked out. If I had known they close at 6, I would have never come there to begin with but it didn't even cross my mind. Be adults, implement a policy to remind customers you'll be closing in ten minutes; they'll leave. There is no reason to leave a sour taste in your customers mouth with childish actions. We left at six with very little inclination to return anytime soon.
As for the cappuccino, not sure why I had cinnamon served on top of my coffee... usually there's chocolate sprinkled on top. I think the cinnamon completely changed the taste of the cappuccino. The 16 oz is too creamy so stick with a 12 oz to get a better concentration of coffee. The log roll- omgosh, one person cannot and should not eat it all in one setting. Turkish log rolls are meant to be eaten one piece at a time, not the entire log stuffed into your mouth. I cut the log roll into half and split it with my friend. Not a wise choice to eat the other half- I felt so sick. The white part of the log roll is so sweet that the thickness of it takes away from the richness of the hazelnut chocolate. It's tasty but definitely not what I had envisioned. I'll definitely have to give it another try. read more
