Great location! Food was delicious and quick. My husband ordered the IL DIAVOLO and I ordered the NONNI with the potato salad. Fresh baked focaccia, ingredients and taste. My husband said it was the best sandwich he's eaten. It was a cute location nestled in the heart of anchorage with quick and friendly service. Check them out in person or on DDD.

Originale is the best and every visit the staff is so friendly. We love this Italian sandwich shop so much we are here almost every Satuday. The food, the coffee , deli meats, and desserts are top quality and we are never disappointed! This week we bought a couple of their t-shirts. We also bought some pancetta and guanciale to make carbonara. They took the time to talk about what we were making to get us the best cuts of meats. We love this place and appreciate the great food and service.

I was finally able to check out this popular Italian deli. Inside there are lots of items for sale. A few triple d memorabilia spots from their visit. We were there during lunch and luckily we were able to order and sit down right away. The woman working the counter, seemed to appreciate my enthusiasm for having my order in picture form. My lunch mate wasn't hungry, therefore she ordered tiramisu. It was some of the best I've ever had. I ordered a caprese panini with mortadella and tomato soup half size, perfection! I ordered a single lemon ricotta crepe that was absolutely divine, and a full size panini (forgetting the exact one) also with tomato sauce, to go. Lastly, can't forget the Italian lemon and orange sodas that were the perfect compliment. In the end, we took more to go, than we were able to sit and eat, at which point my lunch mate got up to ask for a to go box. At first the woman working the counter said no and directed us to use their provided foil. It wasn't until she realized I was also taking my crepe home, that she then decided to give us a to go box. I'm glad she changed her mind, because I definitely tipped @ 25 percent, when I made my order...just something to consider next time.

    Diavolo full with soup

I ordered a diavolo with soup to-go. The sandwich was tasty, but not earth shattering good, while the soup was fairly bland. The sandwich was very simple, just meat, cheese, spices, and oil. I enjoyed it, and the full size can certainly be more than enough food for 2 people. Overall, for anchorage, this is a great catch and worth a visit for a reasonably good value lunch.

I had been wanting to try Originale for quite some time and finally was able to! The bread was so soft and fresh. The sandwich was good overall. I enjoyed the Caprese Sandwich. I do wish there was more balsamic vinegar on the sandwich, as it wasn't very strong. The mozzarella quality was amazing. I really liked how small the soup was. With the sandwich, a big bowl of soup can be so much, but the little cup was perfect!

Stopped in looking for a late afternoon pizza - this was definitely the place to be. They close at 3, last order at 2:30, so we were lucky to stumble in around 2. Originale leans heavily into "authentic Italian," and the interior decor, menu and accompaniments, and warm hospitality reflect these values. We shared a Pinsa La Margheritta ($17), add salami ($2). Marvelous fresh flavors of mozzarella, basil, tomato, and deli sliced salami. Paired with a Blood orange Sicilian Limonata and an ice cold Peroni, this just hit the spot perfectly. We weren't famished enough to go for the sandwiches, but if I'm looking for lunch in Anchorage, I would absolutely come back to try them.

One Word: AUTHENTIC! The Meats On the Menu is Imported from Italy! I'm ecstatic to rediscover this place! Years ago we ate here when it was on Benson it was just a sandwich shop then. 5 years ago they moved to D Street. I guess it just escaped us, but Judy has been wanting to go back here! I'm glad she did. IL DIAVOLO - Panini OMG Spicy sandwich will Calabrian Chili Peppers, w/Spicy Salami, Sopressata, Coppa & Pepper Salami, Mozzarella and Hot Olive Oil! 6 Stars! The best Panini I've ever eaten! Pinza Puttanesca - It's kinda sorta a pizza but not crust is crazy different and good! Mouth watering meats and ricotta cheese topped spicy too! So good 5 Stars! Then we got a few more Pinza's ToGo for making at home! 2 Vacuum Sealed Frozen Spicy Piccante Pinsa's Can't wait to try these. We're coming here more often, maybe every 2-3 Weeks!? HA! It's in our rotation for sure!

We had been looking forward to visiting this place since we had seen it on DDD. The food sounded great. Just our type of environment. We stopped in a little after 11 AM and the place was empty. But by 1130, it had started to fill up. We ordered the La Puttanesca pizza. The counter person asked if we like spicy food. We both answered yes. The counter person was true to her word. The pizza was very spicy. In fact, it was so spicy that we really couldn't taste the ingredients that much. The heat was overwhelming.

What a treat. One of the better Italian sandwiches I've had. Looks like this place has been run by a family. The gal behind the order was kind and funny. Apparently they close when they run out of bread so go early. I'd be happy to recommend this place for anyone looking for flavor and fun. A little pricey for some bread and meat but i feel it's what everyone is doing now with inflation- the need to raise their prices.

For me, coming here in the future my place will be at the bar with appetizers. Bar environment is 5/5 As far as the rest goes I think the food is good, not spectacular. 3/5. In the future I think I'd come for an appetizer and a couple of drinks and that's it. I felt the veal was tough on both ordered plates and potentially I would have preferred chicken. That being said the sauce was great. The grappa sauce had amazing flavor and the Marsala sauce also had great flavor. Plus the funghi appetizer was great with the bread. All of it was enjoyable enough for a return visit. This spot has very friendly staff, they move at a classic Alaska pace. It was clear that the staff was prioritizing white customers over us, which made us feel extremely unwelcome and disrespected. As Polynesian people, we felt discriminated against. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who values fair treatment and respect." - my sister's review. this happened to us today and this is not the first, second, OR third time this has happened! i started going to guido's in 2021 because a friend took me there. i have loved their food since so i brought in family, friends, etc. we would usually come in a big group or as a family. like every big group, we laugh, we are loud, it is a loud place in general. although loud, we are always respectful and tip well! we've rented guido's for my mom's 65th birthday party a year ago and the price they told us up front ($300) was different than what we ended up paying for. we brought our own food in, set up, cleaned everything after top to bottom, and they ended up charging us over $1k over "soft drinks". when we tried to address this with the owner, he did not return any of our calls. when we went in person to really just talk and itemize the bill, his employees would say he's not there, but we would see him walking around in the back. time after time, even with the terrible service, we would return in hopes to give them another chance. time after time, we get ignored or given passive aggressive service! they would whisper things to each other and just passes us by. we do not see this same treatment towards any white customers who are present at the time we are. also, there has been only ONE waitress who has always been kind to us and continues to be: a BLACK WOMAN. shout out to her! it's unfortunate that it has come to this because 1) i loved their food, 2) i do not like to put any businesses on blast EVER. i am understanding and want to see businesses thrive, especially longtime businesses. however, this continues to happen and this needs to be SAID.

We eventually got seated, but even with the restaurant being pretty empty it still took a while before a server showed up to the table. Our server wasn't rude or anything, but the energy was just completely flat. It felt like he could not care less about being there. Sodas got refilled once the entire night. Between being seated and appetizers, and again between appetizers and our entrees, he was basically nowhere to be found. The thing that really got me was being asked if we wanted boxes while our plates were still full and we were just sitting there having a conversation, never once offering to top off our drinks until we finally asked. It's a shame because the food really was solid and the restaurant itself has a nice warm vibe to it. ORSO clearly has a lot going for it and on a different night with more attentive service it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience. For now it's hard to rate it higher than a 3 when the service makes what should be a really nice dinner feel like an afterthought.

Our server was patient, and very pleasant, bearing in mind that one of our party was a crotchety old man. Prior to ordering, he and i arrived first, and were perusing the menu, and he was relating the items he liked, and what he planned to order. He told me he liked both Shrimp Scampi and Shrimp Sinatra. Our other 2 attendees arrived and we ordered - i got Italian Chicken, which came with Soup or Salad, and Garlic Bread. Crotchety Old Man ordered Shrimp Scampi, I'll leave out the other 2 in the party, because I'm the reviewer, and i can only give feedback on what i ate, and my experience. I got the lemon chicken soup, i did like that, it was quite a thick soup, and the citrus flavour was noticeable, but not overpowering. I did get some chunks of chicken in the soup The entrees came out relatively quickly, and IMMEDIATELY there's an issue. Crotchety Old Man announces that he ordered Shrimp Sinatra, and he does not want "that" and he was actually quite rude about it (Hence the name I've given him) the 3 of us and the server told him he had ordered Shrimp Scampi, and he was getting ruder, "Take it away, i don't care what you do with it" and the highly patient server, said she'd have a Shrimp Sinatra made for him. Honestly, I'd have walked off, hence why I'm not a server I did not wait for his entree to be served, as it was WAY past my personal dinnertime, and I'd already been hangry when i got there. Ok, so there was a huge amount of food. Mine was served on fettucine noodles, in a white wine and lemon sauce, with what appeared to be 2 chicken breasts, butterflied. Some parts of the chicken were very tender and juicy, others seemed to be quite tough. The noodles were ok, the sauce was not that creamy, and somewhat lacking. Just ok. The garlic bread - i am not a fan. I like my garlic bread to be made from scratch with real butter, and real garlic, and in my opinion this was not that. I make good garlic bread at home. And it like it made with a french baguette, aka small round slices, with liberal tiny pieces of freshly diced garlic. I rarely use garlic powder or onion powder at home. I prefer real garlic, real onion. I will say that quality beats quantity every time. Serving me a huge pile of food won't impress me. I will not take this home in a box. It's just not worth the calories. Just give me 1 butterflied chicken breast, juicy, tender, well seasoned, over an adequate portion of beautifully cooked noodles, in a perfectly creamy white wine sauce, topped with browned, finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano and my eyes will roll in my head with delight.
