I'm no Tommy expert nor burger or chili expert, but I've been to enough Tommy's to know that there are some Tommy's great and some Tommys are for whatever reason something's wrong with the chili and are flavorless. Everyone knows Tommy's, so what's there to say that hasn't already been said? This particular location is pretty sweet. I think they're open all night or really late. The people there are cool and the food is Tommy's signature at it's finest. What more could you ask for? I've made one or two late night trips here and one trip with my wife during the day and have always had a good experience. The bad: No drive thru. I LOVE the fact that they include tax in their price. What you see is what you pay. I LOVE that the workers there remember me. I started going there about 14-15 years ago when I was in high school. My bro, sis, and I would always order the same thing. I guess they would remember 3 teenagers who made weekly visits, ordering the same thing every time. I Love their hotdogs. Horrible Customer service , The guy at The register Seems like he HATES his job, he doesn't even greet you, looks at you like you are bothering him. he gave us our order wrong and When we try to get the rest of our order he replied that he didn't charge for it. Hit this spot just before midnight, and no one was around, no worries, just ordered and bam we are out, no drive thru of course, but hey, we can walk right... Tommys is always good, you pay the price afterwards, but always good going down. Picked up food here on New Year's day. I was just glad the place was open. The guy who took my order, who also happened to be the manager, was friendly. Overall service was good. I remember my dad taking me to Tommy's in L.A. when I was a kid. It was always something special. It was so good, getting the chili in the burger and not being able to get it anywhere else. We'd reach into a top-opening frig to get our canned sodas. Man, Tommy's has changed from my childhood memories. Granted, this is obviously a different location than the one I went to as a kid. Food is still good, though, just not as "magical" as I remember it. I wonder if they've changed the chili recipe over the years. They need to renovate this place sometimes when I walk in there's homeless people sitting there and you cannot eat any food because of the horrible smell employees do not understand your order because they do not speak normal English I was told him no onion several times and they put onions in my burger not a family-friendly place because of your child wants to go to restroom you're out of luck read more

I have eaten at Tommys all over LA for over 40 years including the original. I am in love with that flavor. This time I had their tamale which is my go to fdish there. As usual it was a Tommys tamale...delicious with the chili. In spite of the pandemic, they had several tables available outside..nice. There isn't much more I can say about Tommy's that hasn't already been said. If you like burgers, you'll like Tommy's. If you like chili burgers, you'll LOVE Tommy's. I was first introduced to the original Tommy's on Rampart by my parents, over 40 years ago, and I love them (my parents) for that. When franchises started popping up, I was ecstatic. Now, there was one in my backyard, always open to feed that late-night hangover. When I went away for college, one of the best things about coming home was taking that first bite of a Tommy burger - that's when you know you're back in LA. I lived in San Diego for almost 2 decades, but could never find a place to squelch that longing for a good chili burger, until they opened a Tommy's in Clairemont Mesa. Now that we're back in LA, I find myself inexplicably stopping in for a Tommy burger anytime I see that red sign, no matter what time of day and what manner of dress. Definitely a local place... Not packed like In and Out down the street. (Line of cars wrapped around the corner) i asked the cashiet if he cld do a lettuce wrap, he looked a little puzzled, then asked the cook. Come to find out the only cook who knows how to make lettuce wraps was off that night. They were able to accomodate me by making a cheeseburger, without the bun and extra lettuce. It worked. The only thing i wasnt a big fan of was the chili. it was oily and an odd consistancy.... I ended up scraping it off. Asked for no pickles but they put them in the burger anyways. Kids were very disappointed!! We tried to ask for a new burger but they told us all we had to do were remove the pickles. Of course, the taste was still very strong. Definitely a let down. read more

Went to this Tommy's location to order a burger and fries and was told at 11 o clock at night THREE hours before closing that they didn't have any fries because they had already started shutting and cleaning stuff up. The cashier, I don't know what his name was he wasn't wearing a name badge, laughed when I asked why they wouldn't have fries at a place that only sells burgers and fries. If you are open until 1 am make sure people that are working the night shift aren't lazy and so ready to go home that they start wrapping things up at 11 when there are plenty of customers still coming to order food. read more

Has really nothing to do with the Original Tommy's, it might run under their banner but the food itself is miles away from it, the Chilli is more flour then anything else, its the first time i did not get dirty eating a Tommy's which that is what you go for. I will alert the Headquarters that something funky is going on there, too bad. Additionally, the person who took our order could not remember simple instructions, no tomato, no pickles, after asking about it a simple sorry, nothing more. Tommy's chili cheese fries are to die for- the chili is smooth and spicy, the cheese is square of american plopped on top and the fries are hearty and thick so they don't sag under the weight of it all. Of course you'll most likely get heartburn afterwards, but it's so worth it. The menu is small- hamburgers, cheeseburgers, tamales, hot dogs, etc. with of course the option to have chili on them. Prices are really inexpensive. Seating is bare bones- just plasitic tables under an overhang- so it's most comfortable to eat there when the weather's nice. Not a good idea to eat Tommy's in the car, as you will most definitely spill chili somewhere. read more
